Only the first two REC movies are good, the first remake is acceptable, not seen that one’s sequel though.
REC3 and 4 are more like spinoff’s that should not be seen.

I actually wonder if there is a version of this film that has subtitles, because that might make a major difference. If that was even the issue, of course. It looks interesting.

I can’t imagine seeing this dubbed… REC is probably my favorite found-footage scary flick, and the immersion and slow burn causes you to forget that you’re watching a movie by the time the horror starts.

You might try “Banshee Chapter”, “As Above So Below”, or “The Borderlands” if you want to try some more found-footage style horror. Big fan of all of ’em!

Appreciate your crazy hard work reviewing SO many movies.

But I’m thinking you lost A LOT by going with the dub.

REC is an expertly crafted film in the original language. And incredibly claustrophobic. I highly recommend a watch.

Can you review Shake, Rattle and Roll (The very first one) on our country, PH?

oh, Damn! I was really rooting for Spain’s “El Dia de la Bestia” (The Day of the Beast, 1995) It was the kind of movie that every friend loves when I was a teenager, I can’t recomend it enough!

One of the best found footage horror movies so far

Rec is a classic, what a shame you couldn’t find it subbed, you probably would have enjoyed it much better.

Watched all 4 of these less than a year ago, in spanish with english subs, liked the first one but as usual the sequels isnt nearly as good, never watched the remake, didnt even know there was a remake until now, but usualy the only reason to watch a remak is to see how bad they did compared to the original (The Fly and The Thing are the only remaks of any kind that i can think off that are better than the original, there are probably a few more, but not many)

I was really hoping when it was Spain turn you didn’t do REC. Great movie sure but for cinemassacre appeal an even better option would be El día de la bestia “Day of the Beast” 1995 from director Alex de la Iglesia. Please check that one out.

Rec is perhaps one of the best examples of how to do found footage correctly, low tech and full of over zealous performances, this is a very good movie.

I was able to find the Spanish with subtitles version on crackle for free. Only bad thing is, there are ads so it sometimes takes you out of the tense moments. But watching it in Spanish with English subtitles makes a huge difference!

This one of my favorites. Its tense as hell. I think this perception comes from the acting. So, as a brazilian, i can appreciate the spanish language, and imerge into the film.

Amazon only has the dubbed version? This is exactly why I pirate movies. If this was your first experience of [REC], then you missed out.

Nice use of the RE4 credits theme!

Also, I love REC! Try to catch the Subbed version if you can. It’s an option in the Spanish BluRay release at least.

There’s definitely a subtitled, non-dubbed copy out there, because I found one back when it first released. It really does help with the pacing, and REC 2 is a direct sequel that expanded on the whole religious aspect of it. Sure hope James gets to find an original copy, and watches the sequel — it really was unique! Although REC 3 was a ridiculous non-handycam spin-off surrounding a bride on her wedding day, and the 4th was a joke of a completion circling back to the main story, the first two are both great. Quarantine and its sequel of “zombies on a plane” are a joke.

REC 3 went full horror comedy and it’s a gem.

As Saga The Damsel said. I really recomend “Day of the Beast”. It is an awesome movie from one of the best director from Spain.

REC is very popular and very mainstream, but I feel is like “Macarena” song. Yes it was popular everywere but in Spain no ones really like it or it was just a trend.
Check Alex de la Iglesia work. It is great.

As James, I’m not a fan of found footage films and shaky camera. As a costa rican, most successful spanish films come here to Netflix or theaters and this one was no exception. I remember it had some fame and many people consider it to be even better than Quarantine. If you have the time, please watch El Espinazo del Diablo, Los Ojos de Julia and El Orfanato. Those are very good films
