Normally, I’m not a fan of the found-footage genre, but I must admit that this looks REALLY good! A found-footage fantasy movie? That’s def. a new one!

I love this movie, its a lot of fun, have not watched with english subs so not sure if all the humor comes through though.
And you are always welcome to Norway, we have had had Pat the NES Punk, The Game Chasers, The Completionist, Brentalfloss, Charles Martinet, David Wise and others at our retro gaming covention over the years, havent had any of those during covid now, but hopefully we can have one again soon and maybe they can invite you over for a visit

If you’re planning to come to Norway. Then you should land in Bergen, rent a car and drive towards Ålesund. Bring a tent, it’s allowed to camp where ever you feel like it! And ofc great review man!

You should have kept some of these on YouTube..judging from the comments, i am sure the view count went down. Why even do 31 reviews in 31 days? It is noble but if you did 13 days of Halloween, no one would have complained. I like the 28 days later review, regardless of what anyone says it worked..

No mention of the fact that the Three Billy Goats Gruff are in the film?

I’ve been waiting to see if any movies I’ve already seen would turn on this year’s Monster Madness. Saw this a couple of years ago on Netflix. Awesome movie. While I can see the parallels to Ghostbusters now that the Nerd has pointed them out, this feels to me like it stands on its own in a lot of ways. I’ll have to look it up again sometime soon.

I watched this years ago when it was briefly on Netflix. I was completely blown away by the quality of the whole thing. I hope with your review the movie gets the attention it deserves.

I saw this in the theatres back in 2010 when it came out in Norway. I’d always liked Otto Jespersen (the man playing the protagonist character), who’s a well known comedian over here, but I did not expect how impressive and epic the movie was going to be. Otto delivers his lines with the dry and cynical tone he’s known for all the while these huge trolls are posing an actual threat. It makes for a very unusual, yet enjoyable experience. I’m so glad you decided to do this one, James. It’s been years since I last saw this, and I might just have to watch it again now.

Yes finally the praise it deserves! Amazing movie! Watch if guys if you haven’t! “Border” (2018) is also a very good scandinavian movie about trolls if you’re into that thematic.

I thought I was the only one who saw similarities between the trolls and the designs of Theodor Kittelsen! If you haven’t seen more of his illustrations, I’d definitely recommend them.

So the Troll Hunter guy has the same mentality as James Bond in the original novels. He does the job, but doesn’t like doing it. Bond would drink away his depression and/or hatred for the job at hand.

Fun to think that this movie came out on October 29, 2010… so it came out during Monster Madness: Camp Cult!
Yup, while we were here on he site hearing James talk about Evil Ed, there in Norway this movie was hitting theaters.

They were meant to be making a US version with Brad Pitt. Not so much a remake more of a side way successor. But it went very quiet

This movie was excellent when I first watched it some years ago. The ending is a bit clunky… but the rest of the movie is too good.

I live in norway, not far from the locations this movie was shot (around the town of Volda)
As you come and make a visit here, you are more than welcome I can be your guide with my car.

“The scenery is gorgeous!” I mean, it *is* Norway. Jokes aside, very happy to see this movie here, I saw it years ago and it really is one of the greatest found footage horrors out there, if not the greatest.

    Hi James.
As a Norwegian I am quite proud of this review.
As you pointed out this is a “Mocumentary” , made by mostly Norwegian comedians. 🙂
However if you are serious about coming to Norway on holiday, and need a guide I would like to volunteer. I live in Stavanger and work on a 2-4 schedule, meaning I work 2 weeks and then have 4 weeks free time. The offer is open and serious.
    Best regards.
    Long time fan

What struck me about this movie was how beautiful Norway is. Just spectacular.

This movie is even funnier if you know Norwegian Folklore, I would think many of the jokes get’s lost on an audience outside of Norway; Christians Man’s Blood, The Goats on The Bridge etc.

I would call this a monster movie, but then again it is Monster Madness.

The director did some other Horror movies, I liked the one with Emile Hirsch.

Totally agree! I’ve seen this movie 3 or 4 times. Definitely worth it, especially for the scenery like James says. I personally wouldn’t put it at the same comedy level as Ghostbusters, and it definitely had some really tense moments with the trolls. Excellent movie!!

Found footage films are so difficult for me to like. I honestly don’t like shaky cameras but this looks really good. One friend mentioned to me one time and really got interested on watching it. I bet Norway looks that pretty anywhere you go.
