I’m very happy to see you guys still pushing through with everything that happened. Regardless of the people attacking you guys, the content is top notch and your reaction to the situation and honesty was very commendable in my eyes. I am extremely excited to see what comes next this October season and hope these issues don’t sway you guys away from continuing this 31-day Monster Madness in future seasons.

there’s only two genres of movies i would deal with subtitles for, Action and Horror, so this is something i’ll have to check out sometime.

I came across this when i was on a journey to watch all the Song Kang-ho movies i could get my hands on, watched 18 of them so far and has not seen a bad one yet. I highly recommend A Taxi Driver (2017) and Memories of Murder (2003) both with Song Kang-ho, not horror, but two of extremely good movies in my opinion

Looking forward to see what other countries and movies we are gonna get a review from 😀

i dont get the people that are still with the stealing part. for starters they have already adressed it and apologize for it. and if you think about it for half a second, is clear that i was a mistake instead of trying to steal other creator work. like seriously, just half a second.

james is clearly a movie fanatic and he is specialized in horror films, do you really think that he cant come up with a script on his own for one? that he needs to steal scripts from another video? do any of you think for a second that the guy that watched like 30 different dracula films and compared each and every part of them with the book only to make ONE video about which one was most faithful is going to be stealing content from other channels for a 6 minute review of a movie? because i dont.

given that james is a big enough youtuber/creator, i was clear that whatever he talked about in his video was going to be searched by his fans, so i was 100% certain that someone would find the script, so stealing it was nonsensical, is clear that i was a mistake and they have already talked about it, so leave it be.

I hope this one is written by James himself.
What I love most about his movie reviews is getting his take on movies and seeing his take on movies.

I hope this is the case for most/future videos.
It would lower my interest if these are just something he reads out, but that was written by somebody else.

    October 2, 2021 at 9:26 pm

Is this one from an original script? Can we get rid of Screenwave Media and Justin Silverman already?

  • Some throw away.
    October 2, 2021 at 9:34 pm

I mean, there are Godzilla movies with good human stories. Look at the original 1954 film. I don’t think Godzilla would have become a franchise if the characters in the movie weren’t so compelling, like a tortured scientist who has to decide between unleashing something potentially as bad or worst than a nuclear bomb or letting Godzilla continue to terrorize Japan and possibly the rest of the world.

I was really excited that “classic” monster madness was making a return but seeing as they aren’t even written by James and he’s just reading a script, this whole thing feels kind of disappointing.

  • Steve
    October 2, 2021 at 10:50 pm

    Is this James’ opinion?
Idk if I can watch any more of these knowing he’s just reading someone else’s words. I can watch any old review anywhere. I’m here for James…

The Host is good watch whether you like giant monster movies or not because it is mostly about how the Pak family deals with the fallout of it showing up then the Korean Military blasting some giant frog fish thing as it wrecks the city. Went into it thinking low-budget Godzilla, came out happy at the story.

It’s important to point out that the ‘female ghost motif’ isn’t borrowed from Japanese horror films. It’s an adaptation of folktale motifs shared by both Korea, Japan, and other countries. A Tale of Two Sisters is adapted specifically from a Korean folktale, and was adapted to film several times before, the first time in the silent era. There’s a new Arrow Film’s Blu-ray release with excellent bonus material that highlights this, especially one of the video essays about folklore in Korean cinema.

The female ghost narrative is a traditional story that has existed not only in Japan but also in Korea for centuries. Korea just used stories that have been traditionally handed down for a long time in movies. I can see how much your understanding of Asian culture is biased centered on Japan. It is like looking at the propaganda of the Japanese Imperialism in the past, which claimed that all traditional Korean culture originated from Japan.

While reviewing Korean films, it is very pathetic that there is a lack of understanding of Korean history and traditions that are the basis of the film.

Bong’s filmography shares some common themes: family, suffering (rather) innocent people, and a small accident developing into a big discord. While Bong’s family theme is decades old, realistic stories (many borrowed from Korean modern history) and depictions of catastrophic failures prevent his movies from being boring. As Park did in Old Boy and Lady Vengeance, Bong loves open, bittersweet “and life goes on” endings explained as this Korean idiom “Like being interrupted while pooping.”

  • Mark

The Demogorgon in Netflix’s Stranger Things looks suspiciously like this water monster. Somebody’s copying someone else’s homework. Maybe they thought American audiences would never learn about the Korean film.

  • c0mpu73rguy
    October 30, 2021 at 12:45 pm

Technically, it’s the US military that’s responsible for all of that in the film, not the Korean government (well, not entirely). It’s a metaphor about the whole south korean situation. “Hosting” the us military which poisons the place like you said with the chemicals incident. I really love this film, saw it in cinema back in 2009. Good to see it’s not as forgotten as I thought.
