Oscar Best Pictures I Agree With (And Some I Don’t)

The 94th Academy Awards are this week, so I’m taking a look back at some of my favorite Best Picture winners from over the years, along with some movies I think should have won instead. Find out which ones do I agree with and which ones I don’t, from the classics to the movies of today. Plus see what movie I think should win the Oscar for Best Picture of 2021.

My top 3 least favorite Oscar decisions I don’t agree with have to do with acting award decisions. I don’t like Sean Connery winning for the Untouchables over Morgan Freeman in Street Smart and Denzel Washington in Cry Freedom (Cry Freedom should’ve been nominated for best picture that year too). I don’t like that Jack Palance won an Oscar for City Slickers over Tommy Lee Jones in JFK and Ben Kingsley in Bugsy. And I don’t think Tommy Lee Jones should’ve won for the Fugitive over Ralph Fiennes in Schindler’s List, John Malkovich in In the Line of Fire, and Leonardo DiCaprio in What’s eating Gilbert Grape.

I disagree with you about Forrest Gump. The book it’s based on gets really ridiculous in the 2nd half with Forrest going into Outer Space with a woman Astronaut and an ape, losing control of the space ship, crashing on an island full of cannibals, and making a deal with a Yale Graduate Cannibal King to help them plant Cotton in exchange for being kept alive.

And that’s just the middle of the book. It gets even more silly and over the top after that. Not to mention Forrest is a pottymouth jerk in the book. I enjoy the book but more in a so bad it’s good kind of way. I like Shawshank a lot but I feel the book it’s based on isn’t as silly and over the top as Forrest Gump was. If the movie Forrest Gump had been like the book it would’ve won razzies instead of Oscars.

Probably the only Best picture Decisions I disagree with are Dances with Wolves winning over Goodfellas and Titanic Winning over As Good as It gets, Good Will Hunting, and L.A Confidential. I would’ve been fine with any of those 3 winning.
