Ready Player One and Tomb Raider were good; Pacific Rim Uprising was not. I thought Rampage was terrible, not as a video game adaptation, just as a “B-movie” in general. Then again, I’m not a kaij┼ź fan, but my complaint is that the focus was too much on the humans point-of-view and not enough on the monsters and destruction. I feel like The Rock is becoming a caricature of himself; he’s always playing the same roles over and over again. I think he only really stands out in comedies (like Jumanji).

I think your “Anaconda” reference was apt; it’s serviceable but forgettable. Although “Congo” might be a more appropriate comparison.

I actually kind of enjoyed this one. I especially like when Claire asks Kate what she’s doing, and she says “feeding the monster to the giant ape”. This movie isn’t Shakespeare, but wasn’t expecting that. The Rock always seems to play the same character, but I was expecting that. I think the movie’s decent, and it exceeded my expectations.

I’m definitely that person who goes around saying “They’re suppose to be humans changed into monsters!” =x

The Pacific Rim movies and Rampage definitely are the same type of films: simple, mindless popcorn flicks. Basically, if you find yourself taking a monster movie seriously (even the supposedly serious ones… perhaps Gojira aside), I think you’ve radically missed the point, personally. Turn off your brain for a while and enjoy the ride.
