Happy 4th of July motherfuckers! Here’s some AVGN!

  • July 4, 2017 at 11:00 am

You’d think nowadays well made good game would have fixed stuff and people passing through other stuff, wall and people.. but it still does. And seemingly no one is bothered by it as long as textures and lights r gud. Sheesh.

I remember seeing an ad for this game on the original Planet of the Apes DVD with character models and concept artwork spliced in with scenes from the movie. Good thing I never bought the Playstation (controls were way too complicated for me back then) nor have I owned this game!

  • July 4, 2017 at 12:44 pm

This is just fuckin’ awesome!!!!! Great episode!!! Thanks James 😀 😀 😀

    32 bit 3D games…. shudder.
You youngsters won’t believe me, but these looked good at the time.

Tell me about it. This generation of 3D games have not aged well. I remember when people thought this shit was cutting edge and 2D sprites looked like crap. Now, through the test of time, 2D sprites have made a comeback and this shit is still in the garbage.

I think Silent Hill or FF7’s still backgrounds are still gorgeous.

Yeah!!! Man this one really needs a sequel! Or two!

  • July 4, 2017 at 1:25 pm

Seriously, Simon’s quest is my favorite Castlevania.

The cryptic nature of it is its worth flaw, but the gameplay is decent enough and it’s very impressive in scope. It doesn’t get enough credit as the precursor to the SotN formula, IMO.

      • July 5, 2017 at 9:45 pm

Sotn is a masterpiece for sure though.

YES! That ending was my favorite part of the movie remake. I loved they tried something new instead of trying to imitate THAT original legendary ending. Thanks for addressing it! Also, how nice of the Astro Bastards to lend their saucer to the AVGN.

Bravo James! Bravo! That ending with the statue face–pefect!

Hey James are you suggeting coconuts migrate?

    • July 4, 2017 at 9:21 pm

Just that cococuts are a classic tool used for sound effects. Maybe still are, idk.

Fucking awesome! (the video, not the game)

I don’t know if there’s a reason for it, but every once in awhile, I think it’d be nice if you played the full theme song before a new episode. It is a nice theme, you’re not under any time constraints any more, you should play it.

I didn’t even know there was a Planet of the Apes game! Thedisappearing walls, shitty controlls, and camera reminds me of The Fifth ELement on PSX. I loved that movie, but the game was just as shitty as this one. One would think they could make a great game based on a great action\scifi movie. But again, games based on movies end up horrible always. I can’t even think of a movie where the game counterpart ended up being good.

Could be a good idea for a video, “Which games based on movies are actually good?”

“Damn you all to Hell!” Ha ha, I said that before I even started to watch this video. AVGN what a funny bastard. Thanks again

    great AVGN episode as always!

Being stuck on an island with one game sounds like fucking hell! You can only do so much with one game until you complete everything multiple times over. A gaming library would be much better.

So I guess this is one game where getting the knife DOESN’T help.

I love that in the japanese comments, regarding the moving walls, someone commented “Is the Planet of the Apes also the Planet of the Nurikabe?” (Nurikabe is a youkai, or monster entity, in japanese folklore) WHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU PUT THOSE TWO COOL THINGS TOGETHER!?
