MIMAL THE ELF – TV documentary clip

James / April 1st, 2017

Lost and found! A VHS recording of “America’s Most Mysterious” urban legend TV show from the late 90s. This episode featured Mimal, the killer elf of forgotten folklore. Only part of the episode was recorded unfortunately.

Actually, as you probably know, this was a Cinemassacre production. The scenes with the Mimal reenactment were shot in Decemeber 2014. I never had time to finish the rest, until Early 2017. This is 3rd in a trilgoy of projects that began as improvised scenes shot with Kevin Finn. The others were “Jekyll and Hyde: The Game: The Movie” and “Flying Fuckernauts Vs The AstroBastards.” Each one took me another year to complete, since keeping up with steady web content is always priority. These projects involved a lot more work, and were more time consuming than the things you usually see on the channel, but they are my favorite things to do. Filmmaking is where I started, and that’s still my main passion.

The show took hints from Unsolved Mysteries, Sightings, Fact or Fiction, In Search of, The X-Files, or anything of that nature.

I’ve always wanted to give Mimal the Elf more exposure, and to give it a creepy twist. I first mentioned Mimal in Angry Video Game Nerd: Episode 109: Atari Sports.

The final video/audio was run through a VCR, so the 90s effect was genuine. No digital filters.

The clip from “You Know What’s Bullshit” was an actual TV clip, when they aired the Pennies episode on CNN.

The actors were ad-libbing. The Google line cracked me up. At that point, we weren’t committed to it being a period piece. But Google DID exist in the late 90s. The image shown on the computer, was from 1997.

By the time you see the car, you already know we’re joking around. But if you’ve made it that far, and were still fooled, I’m glad. Either way, hope you enjoyed it.

Loved the look and feel of this. You should continue making more of these about different legends in the USA.

Notice the running style. That will be a dead giveaway when being approached by MIMAL

Nice short, it’s good to see you returning to your horror film beginnings. Wish you guys would hurry up and make a real horror film already. Long or short form. No jokes, no game nerd. Straight up horror.

This captures the style and feel of those programs remarkably well. Really well done. Hoping you’ll find time to work on more stuff like this and the fake trailers!

Even though it’s an April Fools video, you guys did a great job on the documentary portion. Would make a great horror/comedy!

Great work man. I love how you incorporated the credits into the TV Guide channel. And was that echoey, distorted scream at 5:09 a reference to Night of the Living Dead? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBPUvsudXmE&feature=youtu.be&t=35s

I loved the look of this. I think you can really do this period urban legend series. My only constructive criticism is to keep any anachronisms out. Google in the early 90s is a no-go. The scenes with police cars; the cars were too new, you needed some mid-late 80s cars, with maybe a sprinkling of early 90s cars. Most people can’t afford a brand new car, so they’ll be driving cars from a few years back.

If you go all in on a period piece, that would be an awesome series dude. You should totally do it.

Just saw that you weren’t committed to a period piece by that point. So…Sorry about that. Still though, I think you could definitely make a series out of this. I’d love to see it. Think of it as the successor to the Jersey Odysseys.

Is this the video that you were looking for a voice actor for a few months ago? I would be really interested in knowing how you found him if it was. This was a way better April Fools than Cartoon Networks. They interrupted my dang Dragonball with a sneak peak of Rick and Morty. I mean, Rick and Morty is cool and all, but how many dang times are you gunna show the same episode!? I wanted to see the new Dragonball. Butt holes. Yeah so anyway, about the voice actor…

This was fantastic. I look forward to more non-video game Cinemassacre productions. Not that I don’t love the video game ones, that’s why I’m here, but these are just great.

All these years…my brother David had been missing for over twenty years. To find out he’d been murdered. By an immortal elf. AWESOME! Now we can get his life insurance and dance on the grave with an actual body in it. I hated that bastard.
