It’s your favorite sonic game, and possibly fav genesis game, and you don’t know what getting all of the chaos emeralds does?? Lol shame! Getting all the emeralds transforms sonic into ‘supersonic,’ an all-white, super fast and entirely invulnerable version of Sonic. It also gives you the ‘good’ ending. Get ’em!!
January 16, 2017 at 2:26 pm
oh my god, james does not know everything about every game about every console. Lets gather a mob and kill this basterd who makes free videos for our entertainment!!!
January 16, 2017 at 6:55 pm
He said it’s his favorite game, moron
January 16, 2017 at 7:00 pm
He says it’s his favorite, and yet it seems like he is very unfamiliar with the game, that’s my point
January 25, 2017 at 7:43 pm
you don’t have to be an expert at sonic 2 to know about the bonus stages and chaos emeralds. how old are you, teenager? guessing you weren’t even alive when this game came out. people who were knew this stuff. so maybe you shouldn’t jump in to correct someone who knows what they’re talking about. it’s a totally valid complaint. they don’t put in even a tiny bit of effort to learn the controls/mechanics of the games they play before playing them, and yet they’re making a living doing videos about playing games. it’s pretty lazy.
Yeah it seems fucking bizarre that someone wouldn’t know that. Golden Sonic was the main secret in the game and the thing everybody talked about when it came out. These guys usually suck at games though, tbh (Though mike beat Super Contra, which is a fucking nightmare to finish)

You don’t need to be an expert in a game for it to by your favorite. You are mixing things up. The genesis is not james favorite system. To you it seems bizar that some people don’t know about golden sonic. While in facts its you, bizar, tolling on forums like thes. Because, you ‘expertese’ got your nowhere in life elsewhere 🙂 If you cant show respect to guys like james and mike, you have no real place here.

Rubizon….it is you who is trolling me; I was simply making a point. Your personal insecurities are showing, but since you can’t control your urge to attack internet strangers, I’m a pilot and a fireman so I think my ‘expertise’ is doing me just fine. I haven’t played Sonic 2 in 20 years, and yet I know what the chaos emeralds do, hence my point. I have respect for these dudes. I have none for you. Take care ?

I believe there just pulling the views tail on this one just to see who says what so theres a little more for them to talk about during the video
January 25, 2017 at 7:40 pm
yeah i mean, they are totally opposed to looking at a manual before playing a game and they still often complain about not being able to figure things out. and they’re doing this for a living. you’d think they could put the 5 minutes into looking at the manual before playing, or even just have it beside them and pause to look things up if they get stuck or are having trouble. countless times you see them playing games and never use a special move or do some other basic thing that would make the game that much funner/easier/better. not knowing about the bonus stages/chaos emeralds is probably one of the better examples. of course they don’t have to know EVERYTHING about a game, but this was a huge, well known game, and the bonus stages/chaos emeralds are a pretty big part of it. not only that but reading the manual/doing a bit of research online even, before playing these games would give them more to talk about. it seems like they don’t really care about making these vids as entertaining as they could be.

I remember playing this as a kid good video again.
January 16, 2017 at 6:15 am
I’d like to see you guys play some wiiu. Game & Wario especially.
January 16, 2017 at 6:24 am
That one part isn’t “unfinished”, you go to the right and use the upper flipper to the right of the slot machine to launch yourself left onto the top platform so you can then jump down!

Just to clarify:
Having 50 rings when you pass a checkpoint gives you the ability to enter a Special Stage.
Collecting 100 or 200 rings gives you an extra life.
Get 10,000+ points at the end of a level to get a Continue.
Collecting all 7 Chaos Emeralds lets you turn into Super Sonic.
There IS a 10 minute time limit.
January 18, 2017 at 10:09 am
Not exactly. This is how Sonic 2 scoring works:
100 and 200 rings = 1 extra life (no extra life for 300 or more)
Killing 1 enemy: 100 points. Bouncing on multiples enemy (without touching ground) gives more points, up to 10 000 points for the 16th enemy
More than 50 rings at the end of the level = 1 continue
More than 50 rings when you hit a checkpoint = Makes “spinning stars” appears above it, touch them to enter special stage
Collecting a chaos emerald: 10 000 points
Exiting special stage resets your ring count and every object in the level, but not the timer. You can use them at your advantage to get all the
Earning 50 000 points at any point in the game = 1 extra life
Finishing a stage after collecting EVERY single ring in a stage (not including ring boxes, slot machines or debug mode rings) = Perfect bonus, 50 000 points (and 1 extra life).
Perfect bonus also works on special stages, but it’s insanely hard, even impossible on later stages.
Time bonus rages from 50 000 (les than 0:29 to 0 more than 5minutes. Exceeding the 10 minutes limit makes you loose a life, and sends you back to the last checkpoint.
January 25, 2017 at 7:46 pm
i’m seriously doubting that having more than 50 rings at the end of a level gives you a continue. a continue includes multiple lives, so if 100 rings just gives you one extra life, why would carrying 50 to the end of the level give you like 3? it’s been a long time since i’ve played but that really does not sound right and i’m almost positive it can’t be. because you’d have like 10 extra continues by the end, just by normal play, and i remember cutting it close with the continues by the end of the game a few times (and i wasn’t a bad player).

This game is classic. I love the music.

Watching your gameplay footage, I can offer you guys a few tips: At the boss in Chemical Plant Zone, Sonic can crouch under Dr. Robotnik’s blue ball attacks which will not cause Sonic to be hurt. Also, you can jump on top of him and keep bouncing for repeated hits and basically defeat him with one jump. At the boss for Aquatic Ruin Zone, if you are quick enough, you can jump on top of the totem poles (statues) and then jump on top of Robotnik once (and keep bouncing up and down on him) to defeat him in one jump as well. There actually is a time limit in the game such that after 10 minutes elapses, you will lose a life. I can understand your frustration with the hoops in Casino Night Zone, too… I never knew how to get to them!
January 16, 2017 at 9:24 am
Jesus…Sonic 06 is like a fucking trainwreck. You see bodies strewn everywhere, but you still can’t look away.
January 16, 2017 at 10:02 am
Nothing but great memories gambling in the Casino Zone!
January 16, 2017 at 10:29 am
Please do another Sonic ’06 video.
It’s comedic gold.
January 16, 2017 at 12:36 pm
You guys should do Tazmania for Sega Genesis. Fun game even though I could never beat it. It is a fun platformer.
January 16, 2017 at 1:04 pm
The best part about Sonic on Genesis is the music. That was one of the things that set Genesis apart in those days. The music was so good.
Also, when I was real little and sucked at video games, I used to make my brother get me to the slot machine and I’d sit there for hours playing the slots. Any time I’d die or get too far away from it somehow, I’d make him get me back there. Haha! Good times.

I loved both genesis and Snes. Genesis emulated sound where snes was sampling, both had interesting stuff. But ultimately I’d say snes had much more variety and coolness. Get Audio Overload and some spc or sega music music sound files on a computer to listen to any and all of those musical masterpiece.
January 16, 2017 at 7:35 pm
I feel like the Genesis sound is a weakness. The SNES has such better sound, although I appreciate the Genesis sound, too. I just don’t think if it as “the best part” by any means.
January 17, 2017 at 5:31 pm
The SNES was superior on a technical level, but I loved and preferred the “raw” sound of the Genesis. Rock ‘n Roll Racing was on both systems, but I liked the more “twangy” sound of the Genesis more! Road Rash II is another great example of the “Genesis sound”, awesome soundtrack.
January 25, 2017 at 7:47 pm
did they ever even comment on the music? seems odd not to, since the soundtrack is among the best on classic games.
January 16, 2017 at 5:23 pm
I was a sega kid so I played this and Sonic 3 (with the sonic and knuckles expansion) far too much to the point where I remember way too much about this game…
You have ten minutes to beat the stage- so it is a timer, but it’s fairly generous.
50 rings and through a goalpost in sonic 2 gets a special stage to get a chaos emerald.
There’s a partially hidden options screen if you press down a few times on the menu. That allows you to select sonic only or tails only- this also makes it MUCH easier to get the rings on the special stages.
IIRC, tails can fly by rapidly pressing the jump button. It helps getting to high places- you can also use the sonic and knuckles game with sonic 2 to play as knuckles in sonic 2 that helps getting up high places.
January 18, 2017 at 11:45 am
Tails could only fly in Sonic 2 when CPU controlled, to catch up with Sonic. They didn’t give the player the ability to control his flying until Sonic 3.
January 24, 2017 at 1:44 am
It’s been that long.
Making Tails fly was actually pretty useful in Sonic 3 for some areas though- I recall getting at least one giant ring with his flying.
January 17, 2017 at 1:48 am
I played this one time while visiting family on vacation. It was a pretty good game. However, I kept getting lost on the Dr. Robotnik level, and finally gave up.
January 17, 2017 at 1:53 am
I think you have to be Knuckles to get up to that spot you were trying to get to. I used to love classic Sonic and was a huge fan of the comics until unfortunate events forced a reboot and the loss of s o many characters from my childhood. There were a couple points when I considered giving the new series a shot but then I found out that Sega mandated that Sonic and Sally can’t even be together, and Archie replaced Snively with a character who isn’t Snively. Now I won’t bother on principle and Sega is officially on my game dev hate list.
January 18, 2017 at 11:43 am
Nah, you can reach it with Sonic. You have to approach is as Mike guessed, from the right.

Is there a way to send you a video? Me and my brother used to get to that place with all the bars in casino night zone all the time, would be happy to show you how to do it
January 21, 2017 at 6:13 am
I’d like to see a 10 part Sonic 06 video with Mike eating potato chips the whole time.
January 22, 2017 at 2:49 pm
You guys should do Sonic Boom on Wii U, it’s built for co-op.
