FYI, Harryhausen did almost all of the animation, nearly 90%, more than enough to be considered part of the Harryhausen canon. O’Brien did but a handful of shots, Marcel Delgado also, and Pete Peterson handled a few key character moments for Joe (rolling his fingers while riding in the truck).

If Monster Madness ceases to exist, I think us, the fans, could help next year. What about a tribute to Monster Madness made by the fans? Perhaps in collaboration with James. October’s Monster Madness has become a tradition for me!

    • October 10, 2016 at 7:12 am

That would be fantastic! We should each do one video and submit it, if James is up for it.

What I hate and annoys me though, is that this is an era where animals on the big screen had no respect and proper care. Well… not that it’s much different today lol.

I’m surprised I’ve never seen this. I’m going to check it out right away. Thanks for the review James. I appreciate the hard work. Monster Madness has introduced me to a wide variety of Horror films I’ve never seen before.

Agreed completely! Mighty Joe Young is one of the absolute best of the Classic Monster Movies, though it’s not really a “monster” movie. You put it perfectly, Joe is charming, both movie and ape. It’s one of my all-time favorites from back when WNYW would play monster movies on Saturdays. I even love the remake, though the original is definitely better. Three cheers for Joe!
