This game is kind of like a slow burn. It lures you in and then creeps you out, little by little. I can tell you just by watching, I was hooked.
James, you should set a horror movie in that abandoned basement you found while you were location scouting.
I’m a little disappointed you ended it where you did. I wanted to see what Spooky’s present was to you. (It seemed like she was leading you back through that door…)

Yeah totally. I like how in the beginning you guys were like “aww this ain’t scary at all!” and then you guys were like “OMG RUN RUN RUN!! AHHH!!!”

I’ve watched let’s plays of this game and there is 1 weapon in the game, and axe and it’s in room 554. The axe only works on certain enemies (called specimens) and it won’t necessarily kill an enemy, maybe only stun it or knock it back. The game really wants you to feel helpless.

I’ll also tell you that there are 2 endings to this game. A good ending and a bad ending. I know you HATE bad endings like Bubble Bobble so in order to get the good ending, avoid using the axe on enemies. You can only use it a couple times on an enemy before an internal counter ticks over and you get the bad ending (because of your violent nature perhaps?). So…there’s your protip.

You guys should play SCP – Secure Containment Breach. A free indie game, it’s really scary. (if you don’t cheat( Alone, at night + headphones))

      Free? I’m sold on it.

      • August 8, 2016 at 10:24 pm

Last I checked it was. The game gets updates all the time and get new creatures created by a community. It mainly features a weeping-angel like creature that moves around if you don’t look at it or blink lol

In case you are looking for this game:
It was renamed to “Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion” months ago. The video must be quite old.

Please – DOUBLE DRAGON NEON! Its new and retro, one of best remakes ever made. I also wish to see you guys play Crypt of Necrodancer. But mostly DDN.

  • August 8, 2016 at 12:02 pm

The name of this game was changed due to a C&D order from some german mobile game studio.

  • August 8, 2016 at 12:05 pm

If you play th is game in the dark and turn the volume up, it jump scares are a lot more real.

  • August 8, 2016 at 12:09 pm

How come they never used the sprint button? lol

The rooms are semi random btw. Certain rooms are special though. There is a weapon later on.

  • August 8, 2016 at 12:52 pm

Did you post the video of that abandoned asylum on Cinemassacre somewhere? Tried searching for it, don’t know if I used the right words so thought I’d ask.

Interesting game, although a bit repetitive like you said. You should play more weird games like this.
If you want a modern unique hilarious game, you should absolutely try The Stanley Parable.

It’s cool to play because it’s easy and interesting but they didn’t have to make so many rooms that just pass through. Would be better if you can go through the game in 300 rooms or just to be cool 666 rooms. They should have weapons to use once scattered around so if you get one you can fight off a ghost chasing you. The main girl ghost looks like the girl from The Ring when it changes.

Certainly a very interesting game and I agree with all your points on it. It reminded me a bit of the Silent Hill PT demo on PS4 which was also really creepy. If you want some more newer retro style games I recommend Shovel Knight and Double Dragon Neon.

I’m starting to get this game: The really scary parts are from different horror genres, and of course it starts by tricking you that it’s a cute game, that’s really well-done. What I also got from you playing it is that there are too many rooms between a truly scary part and another and yeah I think that’s truly a flaw but I really hope you continue this game sometime, hopefully.

You guys should try out Undertale sometime! Or if you wanna stick to classics, try Tyrian – it’s the best schmup I’ve played to date. But seriously, consider Undertale in the future!

  • August 11, 2016 at 7:34 am

You guys seriously need to invest in some soundproofing with a couple of acoustic panels. The echo is real.

  • August 11, 2016 at 10:03 am

Thank you for this little gem, was very happy to find it for FREE on Steam, killed a good 4 hours, and yeah, it does get better. Even replayed it to get the GOOD Ending. 🙂

Lately this site has become PC gaming-only, it seems.

I undertand that Ryan might like PC better but you guys (and Bootsy) are all about console gaming.
Please, return to your roots (and stop advertising steam already)

I played the whole game and i can tell you this: it’s just not worth it. It has the minimum of gameplay that a game requires, in a “run forward only” way. Always the same rooms over and over. You expect a story that does not exists and, remember, the story of the mansion is the only reason why you explore the mansion. It reminded me of the “ACTION 52” game-style.
There is a good thing about this game and is the music and sound effects but, sad indeed, are covered by the sound of all the winking to horror games like Penumbra or Silent Hill.
I give 4/10. Impression: better go get Penumbra or Amnesia.
