James reviews The Real Ghostbusters TV series
August 3, 2016 at 5:05 pm
No no no no no now I have to watch it! Thanks James! My wife and boss say thanks too!
August 4, 2016 at 11:12 pm
You know…personally, I don’t like the later episodes without Lorenzo Music. I think the series took a huge downward spin with Dave Coulier… : /
August 4, 2016 at 11:16 pm
Also, I find it funny that Peter Cullen does voices on Filmation’s Ghostbusters and Frank Welker does voices on The REAL Ghostbusters.
August 3, 2016 at 5:14 pm
I watched this show as a kid but i only remember your #1 pick – Boogeyman. Great stuff.
August 3, 2016 at 5:17 pm
My favorite shows as a kid were Votron, Transformers, Battletech, and Thundercats.
August 5, 2016 at 9:19 am
Mine were: Transformers, Voltron, Mask, G.I. JOE, TMNT, He-Man, Ghostbusters.

“Columbia instead went with Dic”
August 3, 2016 at 6:16 pm
It was pronounced ‘DEEK’ (a long e sound). They even pronounced this during most credit rolls for cartoons involving the company.
August 4, 2016 at 8:29 pm
It always sounded like ‘dick’ to me when the little girls voice said it at the end of episodes.
August 3, 2016 at 6:35 pm
It’s pronounced “deek”. I know because every time it popped up on screen after a show a little kids voice would say it. I think James said “dick” on purpose because there’s no way he wouldn’t remember that.
August 3, 2016 at 8:11 pm
Columbia has no Dic.
August 3, 2016 at 6:14 pm
Excellent list and great retrospective.
I suggest “The Collect Call of Cathulhu (sp?)” as another great episode.
As well as “Janine, You’ve Changed”.
There was also the one where Egon becomes a Were-chicken. Hokey, but still creepy.
The episode where they get put on trial by the ghosts (echoesd in a great Batman TAS ep later on, as well). You also get to hear James Avery as the judge!
Hell, I could go on forever, they’re mostly all great!
Also, I was shocked to find out that most of the best episodes of the series were written/directed by J Michael Straczynski.
*Adjusts nerd glasses, ends rant*

JMS… Great writer…love the fact that he did some episodes.
loved so much of his work without knowing that it was him doing all that.
I actually grew up watching Extreme Ghostbusters and I feel that they are equally as good as Real one series.
That series still managed to have the same gritty tone yet be appealing to kids. Oh, and the grungy take on Ghostbusters theme? C’mon! How someone can’t enjoy that?
August 3, 2016 at 6:49 pm
James- please, PLEASE play Nightshade on NES.
August 3, 2016 at 6:55 pm
You know, James, you’re still promoting the new movie by roaming around it 😛
August 3, 2016 at 8:05 pm
Love this show and every show you mentioned. Please if you review another cartoon from our childhood, make it Batman The Animated Series. I would love to hear your take on it.
August 3, 2016 at 9:04 pm
02:03 lol it’s Deek not Dick.
August 3, 2016 at 9:35 pm
You know what’s buuuuulshit? Pronounciation.
Joking aside, yeah, it’s deek lol. But I know that only because they keep saying it when their logo pops in credits.
August 3, 2016 at 10:52 pm
back in the 80’s, i had one of those kaleidoscopes as kid with the still/ slides from the boogeyman cometh episode. staring at the boogeyman freaked me out so bad i had to flash as fast as i could to try and skip over him. seeing that freak in tunnel vision running down that dimensional stairwell always freaked me out! thanks for the memories james
August 4, 2016 at 2:21 am
The only thing that’s missing from this review is a can of Ecto Cooler in your hand. That’s right, I just got my 12 pack today. 😀
August 4, 2016 at 4:43 am
Never had the chance to see that many off these as a kid but I do remember two: one where a man was being hunted by the headless horseman(or something like that) and another where potatochips rained from the sky and Peter was being chased by a giant cockroach. Those episodes gave me nightmares!
August 4, 2016 at 4:05 pm
Those are The Headless Motorcyclist and Drool, The Dog-Faced Goblin. Both great episodes!
August 5, 2016 at 4:39 pm
I looked them up, its actually “Drool, The Dog-Faced Goblin” and “The Man Who Never Reached Home”. Thanks anyway
August 4, 2016 at 6:10 am
Continually playing the theme song throughout the whole episode… Just like in the NES game? XD
August 4, 2016 at 7:11 am
Great review James, brings back the childhood memories and the best of episodes you listed are great, even if I didnt watch them for about 15 years, I remember them.
August 4, 2016 at 11:01 am
Awesome video, as always, but F.Y.I. “DIC” is pronounced like “Deek” not “Dick”, lol
August 4, 2016 at 12:49 pm
I love these reviews of yours, especially the casual setting!
You´ve made me eager to rewatch those episodes, thanks for that. 🙂
!The real Ghostbusters are here to stay!
August 4, 2016 at 12:59 pm
This review is one example of many, of why I love watching your content. Great review, I really enjoyed it and I’m so glad you did this. I watched that Boogeyman episode with my 5 year old son a few months ago and it was awesome, he loves the show. Brings back memories of when I was a kid.
August 4, 2016 at 3:07 pm
The one I remember most was the one where they go to Ray’s family farm (everyone has a 4th mortgage these days). Freaked the living shit out of me when I was tiny.
August 4, 2016 at 3:47 pm
For anyone planning on watching the series, it’s worth noting that only the beginning couple seasons are any good. Virtually every still shown and every episode James mentioned is from season one or two. There are a few good episodes after, but they’re few and far between.
August 4, 2016 at 3:59 pm
Some other good episodes are Moaning Stones, where a museum’s skeletons come to life, Ghostbusters in Paris, where the Eiffel Tower is actually a Victorian era containment unit, Ghost Busted, where they catch criminals instead of ghosts, Ghostbuster of the Year, where they chase a ghost around a huge, spooky mansion inspired by Citizen Kane, and Collect Call of Cathulhu, where they straight-up fight Cthulhu!
August 4, 2016 at 4:32 pm
I had nightmares for years after seeing the boogeyman episode. This show is the reason I got into horror movies. (:
August 4, 2016 at 7:18 pm
Excellent series. I never got through my set though, the series kind of took a turn downwards once they went with the Slimer and the real ghostbusters thing. I liked the filmation cartoon series too, really enjoyed the DVD set for that one actually. I love that you mentioned Inhumanoids, it was a shame that only lasted 13 episodes?. Decompose was the shit! I loved transformers, he man, thundercats, Saturday super Cade, tmnt, gobots, m.a.s.k., GI Joe. I could be here all day!?
August 4, 2016 at 7:27 pm
I remember in the late 90’s teletoon started airing this as part of the Halloween lineup, it was so popular that after Halloween they gave it a regular time slot just before my bedtime. That and courage the cowardly dog, good times.
August 4, 2016 at 8:27 pm
You really should give Extreme Ghostbusters a watch. It’s actually a really good cartoon and better than the later series of Real Ghostbusters. It’s also set in the same continuity as the original films and cartoon, unlike some additions to the franchise lately.
August 4, 2016 at 11:54 pm
Yeah, I was actually surprised James never mentioned this series once in the video.
August 4, 2016 at 8:39 pm
Really? I was the only one not actually scared of any Ghostbusters thing?
August 6, 2016 at 11:29 am
It seems like it. It scarred me more than Elm Street.
August 5, 2016 at 1:34 am
I’ve never actually seen this series. I might consider checking it out. I love steelbook cases. That has to be one of the better DVD releases I’ve ever seen.
August 5, 2016 at 2:54 am
Love the smug face James has got and the fact that he did add REAL ghostbusters for this one, Haha ye…we all wish we could shit over the new ghostbusters movie!
August 5, 2016 at 5:21 am
What happened to the Telltale Batman video?
August 5, 2016 at 4:06 pm
I guess it was taken down due to all the negative comments. You can still watch it on YouTube.
August 5, 2016 at 10:38 am
Love the show.
Did you know? The Mind behind some of the episodes was J Michael Straczinski. Great writer.
Best known as creator of Babylon 5.

August 6, 2016 at 11:25 am
surprised not to see the episode, abot green dude in trench who turns kids to misbehave.
August 6, 2016 at 1:26 pm
BOOM! MIC DROP!
August 6, 2016 at 6:46 pm
The closet monster episode was one that stuck to me. I remember that one more then any other. James did you watch Beetlejuice too? That was a cartoon that was cool and had monsters too. I also was a fan of Adventures of Tom Sawyer on HBO. Would watch that every morning before school. Would be cool if you did some other talk about 80s cartoons. But have a whole section of 80s cartoon reviews. I would love to see it. Brings back memories like when you talk about old games we grew up with.
August 7, 2016 at 2:11 pm
James, I really enjoyed the video. I would really enjoy hearing you talk about Inhumanoids; like Ghostbusters it wasn’t really a “kids show.”
August 7, 2016 at 9:28 pm
I saw the new movie this week, not nearly as bad as you would think. I actually found it pretty funny. It’s different but good in its own right.
August 8, 2016 at 1:27 pm
For what you’ve said you’ll be haunted forever by the ghostbusters’s ghosts.
August 8, 2016 at 1:26 pm
My favorite episode is “knock-knock”, followed by “The collect call of Cthulhu” and “Venkman’s ghost repellant”.
August 13, 2016 at 10:22 pm
Love the video, thanks for highlighting some of your picks. I’ve been trying to think of ones to show my 7 and 5 year old whol love GB, to share some of the most fun scary memories from my childhood!
August 17, 2016 at 4:18 pm
