    Great video!

Awesome! Great vid. But the changes in the BFG edition shows a change in the times haha They changed the icon on the health packs and removed all Nazi references in the Wolfenstein maps in Doom 2.

Really happy to watch this anyways!

You’ve got some of that wrong. The changes have nothing to do with the BFG edition. Those changes were made like…. way back in the 90s (the Nazi symbol in one of Doom’s levels was removed (it was a reference to Wolfenstein, but no one thinks that anymore, they would just think it was put there for satanic fun).

So these changes have been around quite a while, they were not implemented for the BFG version.

One of the changes from Doom to Doom 2 that I did NOT like was the removal of the map system. I liked seeing a little map showing all the places you were going. I would have loved to see a map of fucking Hell and little blood spots for each area fucking annihilated.

What? The map was still in Doom 2. Considering the insane urban areas after the halfway point, it would be a nightmare (for the wrong reasons) for newcomers who don’t know every map like their back of their hands to get into.

Did anyone else get the sketchy ad before the video?

Loved this one, fellas. Hope we get to see you play through all of Doom and Doom 2!

Ummm.. Playing Doom with a controller is just wrong.. its supposed to be played with keyboard or keyboard and mouse. much more fluid and faster game play that way. And why is the screen not set to full ? And dont think the doom community is dead.. people are still playing doom1, doom2, heretic, hexen and
blood… all the good old fps are alive and kicking.. look up Zdoom and GZdoom

This video came at a perfect time, I’m right in the middle of a Doom binge! Just got Project Brutality a week ago, at it’s still blowing my balls off. TONS of new weapons, enemies, and WAY improved enemy AI. But I agree, they’re playing so goddamn slow i almost can’t watch.

Yeah, this video reminds me of a certain video made by Polygon for the new DOOM (2016)

“its supposed to be played with keyboard or keyboard and mouse”??
Please, stop with the pc masterrace BS and get a life.

      • Dan85

        September 12, 2016 at 3:07 am

Sirrah, that was quite polite. You clearly never met a real PC Masterrace.

    • June 6, 2016 at 8:45 pm

Didn’t Carmack say he liked playing Doom with a controller on Jaguar?

We used to play doom with a Joystick on Nightmare mode, and survive.

      shut up.

    • August 8, 2016 at 8:59 pm

Well, anyone can enjoy a game the way they like to, but it does hurt a bit.

Best PC game ever made. You guys should try Brutal Doom and Project Brutality. Blew my f****** mind. ^^

Yes DOOM! greatest shooter and FPS out there by far!

  • The Wicker Man

    May 9, 2016 at 11:43 am

I was hoping you’d finally given Brutal Doom a play through, but this was still awesome!
By the way, it was Karl Urban who played “Doom Guy” in the movie, but The Rock was in the same film so you weren’t far wrong.

You missed the perfect chance to say “right up main street” from deadpool when you shot the guy in the ass. Or a Forrest Gump reference.

    I loved the N64 version of Doom64
And the Sega 32X Doom was good if you played your own music CD in the background

That was awesome playing doom with you James and Mike. I never really played doom until Doom 64 came out. I must admit though doom 64 was really fun. I kind of feel left out not ever getting a chance to play the original though. It looks really similar to 64 though. I remember it too, playing at my friend Stevens house….game scared the hell out of me. I just remember it was really hard to me I never did beat it. I should go back and give it another whirl. I think I just might. Whenever I see a James and mike video it makes me want to play whatever y’all are playing. I notice how James said his favorite game was a link to the past. THAT’S. Another game I’ve always really liked but never have beaten. Not sure why. I always get to the dark world and then just put the controller down and before you know it a week goes by before I pick it back up and then I go to play some more but I forget what’s going on so I start the whole game over lol….that cycle just repeats itself over and over. A link to the past is definitely a game I want to be able to say I’ve beaten though….but anyway…thanks James and Mike for the video. It was great to go back and check out doom with y’all. It’s always fun playing a game with you guys. Just hanging out with y’all is fun period. Thanks,..I already cant wait until next Monday haha….loved this video guys. Like always, peace.

I remember playing this when it came out for the PC and I had a bad PC at the time so I couldn’t enjoy it but I went back to play it in 2008 on Steam with a better computer. They remastered it on Steam so it looked better. I kind of enjoyed it with a higher frame rate and everything on max setting. Watching you guys play it makes me want to play again but I need to get a new PC again. Hope you two are having a good time playing it.

No need to keep advertising the steam-ing pile of shit.

For everyone else interested in getting the game, you don’t need to resort to the POS of steam. you can also get the game on GOG. It’s a much better platform and valve doesn’t get any money.

When Are You Guys Are Going To Do New Board James Episodes?

You gotta play DOOM 64. Game is fuckin’ awesome. Not a port, but an original DOOM game. So fuckin’ dark and creepy. A must own is you have a 64 collection.

      May 10, 2016 at 12:55 am

Amen to that. Doom 64 just had this aura about it. Something about that game will stick with me forever. Awesome game. Definitely one of the best that the Nintendo 64 has to offer.

    • JayRam

      May 10, 2016 at 4:39 pm

That WASN’T a port? Had I known that, all those years ago, I would’ve been more inclined to play it.

        May 11, 2016 at 9:41 am

I couldn’t get used to playing a Doom game with a controller, but Doom 64 was quite good for what it was.

  • May 10, 2016 at 5:54 am

  • May 10, 2016 at 5:56 am

Keep these videos coming. It’s nice to see after a few years your still going with the YouTube videos.

  • May 10, 2016 at 6:32 am

Doom really had some of the best level-design in the history of games. Todays moron-level-designers* should really take some hints from them…

    * are the designers morons or are the levels FOR morons? intentionally ambiguous…

  • May 10, 2016 at 6:50 am

Karl Urban, played “doom guy” in the doom movie with The Rock. The Rock started turning to a monster at the end of the movie.

I remember thinking the shareware version of Doom was all there was. When I got this game on my PS3 I found out I only had 1/4 of it. I did have Doom 2 back in the day mind you, and that was the full game.

Thanks for doing this! Lot of fond memories of this game. I remember when I played it, I always used to run along the walls and press the open door button, looking for secrets. And sometimes I found them! It would always bug me when the results screen would pop up, and I only had, for instance, 10%. It was one of the things that kept me playing the game, even after I finished it.

Great video… look forward to the others, this is still such a great game. But now I’m tied up into the new one which is amazing. Hope to see you do a review on that in the future as well.

  • May 16, 2016 at 6:34 am

interesting video but I was wondering where I could find Mike’s movie reviews like C.H.U.D. I can’t seem to find them anymore on the site are they removed?

You guys should do a episode where you play doom mods. I would recommend the Grezzo mod, touted as the most offensive doom mod.

  • May 20, 2016 at 9:30 am

You will never beat the original doom…
BUT.. I think doom on the PlayStation was very good.
As a kid playing doom on my shit pc in DOS, yeh graphics were shit.. I liked the pantera and metallica 8 bit tunes… But please try the playstation version I honestly think its the best

I really want to see you review/ J&M Monday Doom 2016!

  • May 25, 2016 at 11:32 am

I used to love playing Doom on the PC. I also loved Zero Tolerance on the Sega Genesis. If you haven’t played it, check it out.

  • June 16, 2016 at 5:06 pm

Fun Fact: Mike. It’s technically not “The Rock” because he turns into a bad guy, I know huge spoiler, but I believe they said it was Karl Urban. Although, he looks and acts much more like “Portman”.
