Hey guys, please call these games correctly:
Homebrew: Games created by independent developers from scratch.
Rom Hacks: Games modified by indepentend guys.

In this cases, the game is a Rom HACK.

      • February 2, 2016 at 12:36 pm

Although ‘homebrew’ is usually nor associated with games from my exp. .

      • February 13, 2016 at 5:08 pm

No Homebrew is an okay term for this game. It can also be called a Homebrewed Rom Hack, but it is definitely a homebrewed game.

A homebrew is where you take a game, like Dungeons and Dragons and modify it. This game is not just a hacked version of super hard Mario or Megaman. It is a heavily modified game with Megaman crossing over with Mario etc etc.

This is like someone adding Dragon Ball Z rules to a D&D game engine or adding in Halo Combat into World of Warcraft.

Also to comment on Smokingspoon, yes definitely. Homebrew is a term mostly used with Board Games or RPG tabletop games. Homebrew is an enhancement to the “House Rules” term, brewed meaning it uses a previously existing game system as its basis. Such as House Rules in Monopoly. Homebrewed Monopoly would be something like adding in the ability to move either direction to on the board, or adding something like a spinner, or a credit/loan system.

James is very likely to use terms like homebrew because he is obviously a huge fan of not just tabletop games, but also modified games/homemade games.

To beat the springs/dragon/level 3 boss easily, use quick boomerang. It corresponds to the letter U item.

to add to that, the inability to switch items when one is used is also present in the original megaman 2. i.e., a deflected leaf shield must float down before you can press start. Also, the level 3 boss’s head is the kill zone, as you pointed out, but the body just below it is neither solid nor does it hurt.

It would be great to see both of you together finish the game instead of just Mike. The “Cheater” option is the continue code, and it uses the same codes as Mega Man 2. You can continue on at Dr. Wily’s Castle: A5, B2, B4, C1, C3, C5, D4, D5, E2

attention to rythm. There’s a blend and mix from different tunes and level design which answers to your question Mike: The tunnels in between the actual stage and the boss fight are there to give a break not really to make a shift in tone. By the way have you noticed some similarities in the heatman stage and of ducktale’s Transylvania level tune?

Man I loved playing MegaMan 1, 2, and 3,,, Those
games were so hard as crap… They would kill you like 1,000 times
and you would still come back and play the next day just to day another
    1,000 times… Good Times Good Times 🙂

James: That’s the problem. The fact that a guy comes out.
Mike: And the guy is hard too.

Exactly why I had to switch dentists last year.

  • February 6, 2016 at 4:38 am

my question is for the people making all these homebrews and hacks: where are they getting cartridges to make them? they look exactly like official Nintendo cartridges. where as current unlicensed nintedo games like bible games didn’t.
