December 26, 2015 at 8:02 am
Great episode! No fancy stuff, no complicated or forced dialogs, back to the basic stuff that made this franchise so great. It is also cool to see a review on a well known game rather than some obscure shit nobody knows about.
December 22, 2015 at 12:08 pm
I’ve been waiting for this. N64 labels!!!
December 22, 2015 at 2:19 pm
been waiting on 64 titles forever!
beyond superman 64*
January 16, 2016 at 12:02 am
Does anyone know where I can get end labels like those?

December 22, 2015 at 12:10 pm
Oh yeah awesome 🙂 I like to say Merry Christmas to you James and your family and Merry Christmas to you and your family Mike. Always Thankful for the videos you guys do, have a safe xmas/new year everyone!
December 22, 2015 at 12:12 pm
They should make a newer version of this with better graphics.
December 25, 2015 at 10:35 am
and with much better mechancs so it’s not..broken.
December 22, 2015 at 12:19 pm
Been a few episodes since you could hear genuine rage, great vid nerd!
December 22, 2015 at 12:40 pm
Another great episode, James! Really easy to see the frustrations, and nostalgia involving the games and the early days of the net. A Very Merry Christmas to your family and friends and a Happy New Year of all the exciting things to come!
December 22, 2015 at 12:46 pm
I loved this episode!!
December 22, 2015 at 12:48 pm
I remember this for PS1 its horrible, James, Mike did you guys also play Mortal Kombat: Special Forces? that game is awful. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays guys and gretings from Serbia.
December 22, 2015 at 12:49 pm
I don’t give a fuck what anyone says, I love this game on N64.
December 22, 2015 at 3:01 pm
Totally man. What’s you get passed the shitty controls [which I laughed at when he pointed that out] it’s actually an ok sidescroller. Definitely not the best! But at least ok. The problems in this vid are the majority of what every other reviewer feels about it too pretty much. I share their frustrations with it no differently. I just don’t hate it that much.
December 22, 2015 at 1:27 pm
I loved the AVGN X box art 🙂
But when did James have a gun instead of an
Arm Cannon? A true classic
December 22, 2015 at 1:57 pm
I was wondering about the Blu-Ray: Does it include the ‘Ricky I’ review and the crossover with Captain S?
December 22, 2015 at 2:39 pm
I played this game on PS1, didn’t hate it as much but that’s probably because I’ve gave up on it very quickly.
December 22, 2015 at 2:58 pm
Heh, Club Nintendo (Nintendo Power for us at Mexico) also called those things “spoons”.
December 22, 2015 at 3:19 pm
Mortal Kombat Mythologies Sub-Zero should be in the green zone because it is somewhat a good game.
December 22, 2015 at 3:29 pm
You didn’t yell “GET OVER HERE” when you yanked the cartridge out!
December 22, 2015 at 3:45 pm
When will Monkey Cheese get a HD remake?
December 22, 2015 at 4:30 pm
There’s not even an invincibility after you get hit?
December 22, 2015 at 5:13 pm
This became instantly one of my favorite episodes, it was so good.
Also, the inclusion of Charlie Brown screaming was fucking gold. It had me rolling.
December 22, 2015 at 6:58 pm
I loved the Charlie Brown part! XD
December 22, 2015 at 10:26 pm
Yep, that was hilarious!
December 22, 2015 at 5:41 pm
Ha! The “land on the spike” fatality is clearly a tongue-in-cheek homage to the same stage fatality in Bloodstorm.
Bloodstorm was the controversial (and inferior) arcade game that audaciously tried to compete toe-to-toe with Mortal Kombat.
December 22, 2015 at 7:01 pm
Was that the game The Simpsons was parodying when they featured a game called ‘Bonestorm’?
December 22, 2015 at 10:25 pm
Almost certainly! Bloodstorm was one of those flash-in-the-pan “oh yeah me too” games that obviously did not stand the test of time. It capitalized on gore and the Johnny Cage advertisement controversy (see the article).
But Incredible Technologies was one of those local rivalries, like which hot dog stand in your town is the best. Midway was in Chicago and upstart Strata, aka Incredible Technologies, was in the suburbs.
The Mortal Kombat games have all kinds of hidden tongue-in-cheek references, like Ed Boon’s face on the trees in MK4. A subtle nod to Bloodstorm isn’t out of the question.
December 22, 2015 at 6:57 pm
This was a great episode! The nostalgia, frustrations and anger really came out and felt so real, thanks James! 🙂
December 22, 2015 at 7:42 pm
i love the N64 but this must be the shittiest N64 game i’ve ever seen, Superman 64 seems like pure joy compared to this.. impressive lol
December 23, 2015 at 12:11 am
Nothing is worse on the N64 than Superman64. NOTHING! Ever actually play that turd? Ugh.
December 22, 2015 at 8:29 pm
Good Stuff, Merry Christmas Cinemassacre!!!!!!!!!
December 22, 2015 at 8:32 pm
That was awesome! I hope you do a Nerd episode or James & Mike play for Driver 2 on PS1. That game will piss all over your wheaties. Anyway, Keep up the awesome work James!
December 22, 2015 at 9:17 pm
That thing at 7:45 was pure brilliant timing 😀
December 22, 2015 at 9:58 pm
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon right next to it. Niiice.
To every single living being in the universe: Play Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon for N64, it kicks ass.
December 23, 2015 at 12:15 pm
I’ve never owned an N64. I looked up screenshots though, it looks fun.
December 22, 2015 at 11:19 pm
Great episode. Seemed to take forever, but it was worth it.
P.S. Sub-Zero is a wuss. I don’t where he learned his skills, but it’s obvious that he’s a bit rusty. Time to send him back to Ninja school for a refresher course, ha, ha!
December 23, 2015 at 2:36 am
Its about damn time u put out an avgn video. Thiswhole month of content was lazy halfassed trash.Put out an effort. If the nostalgia critic can put out quality reviews in a timely manner then u should be able to as well. Stick to the game reviews(the reason anyone comes to this site)it was your bread and butter… But some where u lost your way
December 23, 2015 at 7:32 am
Shut the fuck up or I’ll kill you
December 23, 2015 at 2:40 am
As far as im concerned u only put out 5 videos worth watching in this whole year. Thats sad… Piss poor
December 23, 2015 at 7:33 am
Get the fuck out
December 23, 2015 at 3:35 am
there is also another game just as bad called Mortal Kombat Special Forces . People should check that out.
December 23, 2015 at 3:36 am
There is also another game just as bad called Mortal Kombat Special Forces . People should check that out.
Wait there is also another game just as bad called Mortal Kombat Special Forces . People should check that out.
December 23, 2015 at 5:22 am
James don’t take this the wrong way, but MK Sub-Zero is a fantastic game… you just suck at it. It’s not meant to be an easy platformer, it’s meant to be brutally hard.
Also they DID turn this into a series. MK Special Forces came next (which was horrible and never officially released) and then much later MK Shaolin Monks, which is fantastic if you ignore the worst cut-scenes I’ve ever seen.
You really need to start doing better research… like the last vid about Star Wars Arcade on the 32x…. a simple search on klov.com would have revealed that the “arcade” mode is based upon the sega arcade game called “Star Wars Arcade”… you know… the exact same title as the 32x port?
Nobody expects you to know everything, but it’s getting embarrassing man. Google is your friend.
December 23, 2015 at 12:21 pm
Shaolin Monks is the only one I’ve played out of all those. I remember that one being pretty fun.
December 23, 2015 at 1:19 pm
Well, it’s an ok game imo. It definitely isn’t as bad as the video makes it look. Honestly, I was kind of disappointed that he didn’t know any combos or pointed out the crap fact that the combos are used from the C pad. This felt more like a montage of frustrating deaths than a review. It was really only 9 minutes – the DVD promo at the end. He must have been so frustrated at that point to where he just said “fuck this, 9 minutes + a promo filler is enough.” lol. Shaolin Monks was a blast! I think they should remake Sub-Zero Mythologies though. It had way more potential than what it came out as.
December 23, 2015 at 7:04 am
Never played this MK game before, seems like i didn’t miss much. AVGNX on Blu, nice ! Merry Christmas to James & Mike !
December 23, 2015 at 7:25 am
For some reason, I thought the 24 days of AVGN advent were leading up to the release of this. At any rate, thanks for posting. I’ll comment back later once I’ve had a chance to watch.
December 23, 2015 at 12:10 pm
This was a fun episode. Just watching you play it was a frustrating experience! Thanks for all your great work in 2015! Definitely one of the best years of Cinemassacre. Looking forward to what the new year has to offer. 🙂
December 23, 2015 at 7:42 am
Great episode, far better than the last one in my opinion.
December 23, 2015 at 7:55 am
Played this game on PS1. Actually thought it was pretty decent, compared to Mortal Kombat: Special Forces (which is definitely AVGN material!!! )
December 23, 2015 at 8:29 am
Although depends on viewpoint. MK: SF could be viewed as good
December 23, 2015 at 12:42 pm
Just like i thought… No response to real criticism… Just mindless idiots with no opinions. Some people can be pleased by nothing.nothing at all. And ur movie was a huge letdown. What a shock
December 23, 2015 at 12:46 pm
Mike has no marketable talent. And he is an ugly virgin
December 23, 2015 at 6:48 pm
I actually really liked this game. My friend and I had it on N64 and played the hell out of it.
December 23, 2015 at 9:02 pm
Can someone please ban Chris Hall? What is he even doing here?
December 23, 2015 at 10:42 pm
Speakin the truth… Like it or blow it out your ass. Truthful criticisms are the whole purpose of the leaving a comment section. Not to suck james balls and tell him every thing is gold.
December 24, 2015 at 6:28 am
Let’s recap, shall we? We got 8 awesome episodes of Board James (with its own deep, rich mythology), 5 great episodes of AVGN (Hong Kong ’97 and Seaman were two of the best of the series, IMO) and Jekyll & Hyde The Game The Movie, which was one of the greatest things I’ve seen. Not to mention about 200 videos in between, including but not limited to: J&MM (weekly), Monster Madness (daily) and now the Bad Cover Art gallery (daily) and a bunch of other review videos in between. Exactly what is lacking for you?
December 24, 2015 at 6:31 am
Your so-called “criticism” was simply putting down everything he’s done this year. How is that helpful?
December 24, 2015 at 1:26 am
Merry Christmas James, Mike, and the gang!
December 24, 2015 at 5:27 am
This game gets a lot of undeserved shit in my opinion. The jumping sections shown are incredibly frustrating but overall it’s not a terrible game. If you wanted to use a MK game for an episode you should’ve used Mortal Kombat: Special Forces as that really sucks ass.
December 24, 2015 at 1:21 pm
Could just drop mike all together… Wendys is hiring
December 24, 2015 at 1:22 pm
We can watch his bland personality make me a burger
December 25, 2015 at 2:14 pm
How about you just leave this website and never come back. That would be great for us all. Talk about an unappreciative dickhead. He put out PLENTY this year. The guy has a little girl that needs time spent with. I think he worked his ass off this year, ESPECIALLY seeings how the AVGN movie was just finished last year. I expected a slower year. But he did Monster Madness, Board James, That Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde video, AVGN the works! Let’s see you crack that out in a year. Bravo James this year’s content was awesome! Can’t wait for more, and fuck this guy.
December 25, 2015 at 3:47 pm
James works his ass off putting out so much stuff to entertain us AND he has a little girl to raise and look after. This Chris Hall moron should go elsewhere.
December 25, 2015 at 3:48 pm
This year was awesome, especially Board James! And the Dr Jekyll trailer! 😀
December 24, 2015 at 3:05 pm
Need those Blurays back in stock, especially of the AVGN movie. Can’t get those exclusive special features without the Bluray…
December 24, 2015 at 10:27 pm
No Rumble Pack? for shame, nerd, for shaaaame!
December 25, 2015 at 11:18 am
Great episode. Appreciate all the hard work James and crew.
December 25, 2015 at 8:13 pm
I absolutely detest timed platforming.
December 26, 2015 at 5:56 pm
Hey James have you heard about the new Shaq-fu game that’s apparently being made?
December 27, 2015 at 7:13 pm
They really love their ceiling smashers don’t they?
Great episode! Best one in a while in fact 🙂
December 29, 2015 at 12:40 am
lol the charlie brown cut scene.
December 29, 2015 at 3:56 am
James, you need to include a digital download or an amazon.ca purchase link. I’ve wanted a collection for a long time and being in Canada tends to screw me unless it’s at least digital.
December 29, 2015 at 8:01 am
The download code idea my not work. I’m unsure amazon.ca has this but I know amazon.com has it. See if go to site like I think it’s something like this amazon.com/twit they get an cut of porifts form the sell.
December 29, 2015 at 4:00 pm
Good episode. Sad to see that there are Mortal Kombat games. I suggest for next Christmas you go over Gremlins video games. There’s a quite a few of the to check out like:
-Gremlins on Atari 2600 and 5200
-Gremlins: The Adventure on Commodore 64
-Gremlins 2: The New Batch on NES and Game Boy
-Gremlins: Unleashed! on Game Boy
-Gremlins: Stripe Vs. Gizmo on Game Boy advance
-Gremlins: Gizmo on Nintedo DS and Nintendo WII
January 2, 2016 at 2:01 am
Are those all Christmas-themed? If not, he could do these any time. Nice idea.
December 29, 2015 at 11:27 pm
Hope you play mortal kombat special forces and mortal kombat shaolin monks sometime.
January 16, 2016 at 11:34 am
We really, really would like it and think it would be awesome to do a avgn episode based on earn to die!
February 8, 2016 at 5:18 pm
Yes this was really funny can’t wait for more nerd episodes and also can’t wait for the newer episodes to come on DVD cause I will, so buy them
February 12, 2016 at 10:03 am
It was a actually a good idea for a game but they royally screwed it up
February 27, 2016 at 3:17 am
I want to go to a GameStop and ask “where’s the ‘where the fuck do I go’ games section?”
March 10, 2016 at 11:50 am
Must be 3 or more months since you posted this! The game doesn’t look bad but yeah, would suck having to push an extra button all the time to turn yourself around. Yep, Mortal Kombat was the shit back in the day… mid 90s. I remember when things kept on looking better at home too. Yes, that’s what we wanted, realistic/arcade like quality in the home.
March 16, 2016 at 2:36 am
You’ve lost touch with what made the nerd special. The anger is gone, what’s left is too forced. The bitterness is gone, the creativity is gone…AVGN really has jumped the shark, like most great series do. It’s time to ride into the sunset and move on with other projects, as much as I hate to say it. It’s better to leave a good legacy behind than to rape a project’s dead corpse. It’s obvious with every episode that you’ve lost your passion for the nerd, compare it to Board James, which you were clearly very interested and passionate in. I know I am in the minority here but the quality drop is painful. It’s just not the same anymore, it feels like a totally different show. I feel like you are only still making them because you feel like you have to. That’s a job, not a work of art or passion.
March 16, 2016 at 2:51 am
and don’t get me wrong, I am a huge Cinemassacre fan and I hope you don’t take any of this as an insult. It is simply constructive criticism. I just don’t want to see you making a chore out of your projects. Do what YOU want to do. I mean, you are a film maker, aren’t there movies that you want to do? Don’t waste this time doing something you don’t want to do, man.
March 17, 2016 at 3:40 pm
“look for all new stuff in 2016″….. what BS. 4 months since an AVGN episode and all we get is Mike whining about homebrew and imports…. wow… nice. RIP Nerd
March 22, 2016 at 11:42 am
Where the funk are the nerd videos…this is lazy bullshit. I’m sick of watching mike play shifty obscure games nobody gives a shit about. The stampede video is boring garbage. Make with the goods before the fans go else where. If I wanted to watch enjoyable game play. I’ll watch gamegrumps. Good banter can go a long way.
April 1, 2016 at 2:09 am
calm down dude.
It’s almost here!
March 22, 2016 at 11:44 am
I haven’t watched anything on here in months… I turn it on. Get bored. . Turn it off… where is the quality control
April 1, 2016 at 1:51 am
I wish that I made an AVGN cover with Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde soundfont before I went on a trip (´’_’`)
May 11, 2016 at 7:02 am
Put your videos on netflix
May 29, 2016 at 12:50 am
wut iz dis game???????????????????????????????????
June 6, 2016 at 7:41 pm
March 20, 2017 at 6:58 pm
i was unfortunate enough to have played this game on the N64 before the PS1 version and you’re 100% correct about the shitastic controls. the ps1 was a little better but that’s like comparing a dog turd to a horse turd. one’s just a bigger pile of shit.
April 23, 2017 at 4:58 am
I suppose it’s a good thing I never got around to playing this game either. I thought it was a 1-player action side scrolling game using the MK fighting game controls, which sounds awkward. But this is even worse than that! The controls are all messed up, and it’s full of unfair and cheap traps!
Haha, loved the Fatality to the game. 😀
July 7, 2017 at 9:04 pm
Good concept for a game but a pore execution
Scorpions voice is cool
