Ha! I remember it watching as a kid. The show was on german television! They even have some Action 52 sounds. Like the scream at the Joust stage. Even though I think it’s not the same company. And a “great” homage to Shakespeare…

  • November 11, 2015 at 8:55 pm

in b4 comments insults. You know, if you don’t like Doug, you really don’t have to watch. I promise, you can skip it.

Not a fan of Doug. I watch it for James.

    • JayRam

      November 12, 2015 at 9:30 am

But that makes way too much damn sense, though.

Hundreds of thousands of years from now, when humanity has wiped itself out, a superior race would have to look no further than Cinemassacre’s comment section to see that people got angry and frustrated and fought over the dumbest shit.

Or mute it and make up the words yourself.

I like Doug, he’s cool and adds a lot to the show.

Dudes it’s American Gladiators. You play as contestants on the show against the gladiators. Not against each other, except for the obstacle race on the last event.

I was in elementary school when American Gladiators was on TV, and we used to play it on the monkey by trying to knock each other off. We got band from playing it after a few kids had broken arms. Now every playground I take my kids to, the monkey bars are no higher than 4 feet off the ground. I imagine that because kids recreating the show across the country is why there are no 7 feet high monkey bars anymore.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! My favorite video game scream. Yes, it’s above Mario Paint and Pac-Man.

I used to play this a lot at a friend’s house as a kid. I loved that TV show. Looking back at it, we just thought it was just really hard rather than bad. Certainly didn’t hold up over time though.

The wall is what I remember most. It’s the most challenging, but if you give it some time, you can reach the top. If you keep beating all the events in single player, the wall keeps getting more and more difficult. It looks nothing like a wall eventually. So many rage memories.

Its like youre testing your fans to see if they will still watch you even when smearing shit all in our (ears) faces

      November 12, 2015 at 9:37 pm

Right? James surpassed Doug some time ago. It is like he feels bad or something and is throwing Doug a done.

    November 12, 2015 at 12:34 am

I played the shit out of this as a kid. I don’t know why. It’s an awful game. That wall climb is bullshit.

  • legacy81

    November 12, 2015 at 12:56 am

Lots of memories with this game. My dad surprised me and bought me this game from some mail order magazine. i played the heck out of it and never once did i make it to the eliminator. I could beat every stage all the way to level 4 except for the level 4 human cannonball. That stage was insane tough 🙁

  • November 12, 2015 at 1:07 am

i remember this game as a kid don’t ask me why but i rented it from the library back in the early to mid 90’s and needless to say i mainly stuck to jousting the majority of the time

This game does not suck. It’s like two player Mario. You try and see who can progress the furthest in the game. Wall is actually my favorite. It’s hard, but a lot of fun.

What’s with the hate on YouTube’s comments? I am not a fan of Doug but I think he’s a fine guy. I love the part at 1:42 “want to hear the scream”.

  • Xen11

The game doesn’t suck. It’s a very fun and challenging game.

of course doug is more talkative, you would think hes on speed. but i like them both, they are a good dynamic and i think it would be good if they continued to make these. honestly they both could use a little relaxation during these videos, they dont seem to be 100% comfortable with each other yet, but thats how newer friendships are. like with mike he knows exactly how to be because they have been friends so long. james is always just a little to worried. my advice is dont try, just do, as long as you enjoy it, others will too.

    November 12, 2015 at 12:07 pm

Doug was calmer in this video, very good. Massive improvement. I remember borrowing this game a few times of a relative back in the day. Remember it as a pretty good temporary timewaster you just kind of started up to get a few minutes going a bit faster.

  • Digity

    November 12, 2015 at 12:08 pm

Enough with Doug already, the guy is not funny and is quite annoying.

    • Grandmasterp

      Doug’s cool. What the fuck?!!!

  • adder_doner2

    November 12, 2015 at 9:41 pm

I mean, James is someone who is passionate about filmmaking; I can’t imagine the countless videos of various quality he must have sat through. Can he honestly sit back, watch these episodes with Doug, and say “..yeah, that was definitely enjoyable!”

  • November 13, 2015 at 6:18 am

I remember renting this game once when i was a kid. I remember it being too damn hard, especially that damn wall. That scream is absolutely amazing.

  • Contra_I

    November 13, 2015 at 1:02 pm

Doug is better, but still annoying. I only made it about two minutes in this time.

For anyone here who doesn’t like Doug, try watching Nostalgia Critic. You will have a much better appreciation for Doug.

    • November 13, 2015 at 8:16 pm

I love the Nostalgia Chick, in love actually… lol but I’ll give him a try to be fair. Thx for the suggestion.

      • JayRam

        November 14, 2015 at 2:02 pm

        Nostalgia Chick…*shudders

In a comment below, you just stated that you find Doug super annoying. IRL, he’s more mellow, actually. So, if you can’t stand him now, in a shoot-the-shit type of video, I’m not sure the Nostalgia Critic is something for you: as the character, he’s even louder.

        Personally, I like NC.

  • November 13, 2015 at 8:10 pm

Am I the only one that finds Doug super annoying. Where is Mike!?! That motherfucker!

    • MrBrrumpkins

      November 14, 2015 at 9:17 am

“WAHHH, Mommy, James is playing with Doug again!!! I want Mikey!!”
“Son, are you talking about that little brown nosing whiny ass?”

    November 13, 2015 at 8:55 pm

Used to love watching American Gladiators. Should have been an easy game to make well, but apparently it was botched. Some of it looked kind of fun.

Great to see Doug on the show more often these days. That guy is great.

  • November 13, 2015 at 9:35 pm

Personally, I just don’t get the Doug hate. If you don’t like him, don’t watch it. Why do you feel the need to post about it? Are you intentionally hoping to deter their friendship / working relationship? You guys do know they’ve known each other and supported each other’s careers for YEARS right? For people who are trying to say Doug isn’t successful, I’d point out that he’s basically created an entire independent media channel! James and Doug have obviously been quite successful in different ways, and they like working together, so just deal with it already.

    • November 13, 2015 at 9:37 pm

Also, I’d point out, that this just sorta happened, as was referenced in the last video, where they just sort of got together to play and didn’t think to film it. So they decided maybe they should film them as some people might enjoy watching.

      • Matias Albiach

        November 14, 2015 at 1:27 pm

You are a 100% right. They are a little awkward in this videos because they already know the hate Doug have in this site, and he can’t fully relax. I personally think he is awesome when he is relaxed, if you want to see Doug being himself without the pressure he suffers in this videos go see his vlogs with jason on Adventure Time.

  • Rambowl

    November 13, 2015 at 11:33 pm

This game was fun as hell. Painful to watch y’all play it.. It’s not that hard. It is turn-based but the person who does the best wins.. Like the American Gladiators show.

  • Don Skiver

    November 14, 2015 at 10:46 pm

You guys must not have been big fans of American Gladiators since you guys don’t seem to remember anything about the show.

  • November 15, 2015 at 2:20 pm

We had a version of the show in the UK. It dropped the American part of the title (naturally) and simply called: Gladiators. I used to love the theme song.

  • Rennie Page

    November 16, 2015 at 2:11 am

Doug. I love you man. Ignore the haters, I want to see more of you with James. You’re actually pretty damn good at some of the games. Personally I really enjoy the “real thoughts” videos with you and your brother on your website. He is God damn hilarious. The one where he repeatedly slaps you with the plush monkey in son of the mask I believe, I about ruptured my spleen, you’re like “STOP IT” hahahahaha

  • George McAvin

    November 16, 2015 at 9:22 pm

oh come on. That game is fun! If you were a fan of the show it was spot on.

  • Zorg

    November 18, 2015 at 2:24 am

It is really a burden to hear a single sound out of doug.. Please James, for the sake of all your fans. Stop this.

  • November 19, 2015 at 1:28 am

The premise of the show is that contestants face off against professional athletes (the titular Gladiators), and earn points based on their performance in the events. The contestant with the highest score at the end of the show is declared the winner. At no point do contestants actually fight each other. The game stays true to that.

    • November 19, 2015 at 10:28 pm

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking as they complained that there was no direct competition. But it would have been nice to have a Versus Mode, where one player controls a gladiator in each event. That option alone could have made this a pretty cool game (still not the best for sure).

  • Ben_from_G-town

    September 22, 2016 at 7:54 am

That’s a great scream. This game is made difficult just by its bullshit controls. Yeah, it doesn’t look too good!
