Board James looks at some Video Game themed stuff like Pac Man, Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda, Street Fighter 2, Tetris!
Special Thanks to Carlos for the AVGN Cover Theme
September 5, 2015 at 6:11 am
I have the exact same shirt and I wear it pretty often. Definitely my favorite Metallica album.
September 6, 2015 at 4:28 am
i used to have that shirt 20 years ago. it fell apart unfortunately
September 7, 2015 at 11:54 am
Very good James! This crossover really ROCKS! Finally an ass kicking video again!
September 6, 2015 at 5:43 am
As it damn well should be. Damn near every song on that record are among my very favorites.
September 5, 2015 at 6:24 am
FINALLY! The AVGN/Board James crossover we’ve all been waiting for!!! 😀
Also, “Imagine what it would be like to be trapped for all eternity with two ghosts…” Tipping your hand there a bit, James. 🙂
September 5, 2015 at 6:36 am
Wow. The line is blurred at the end there. Are we to take it Board James is a PREQUEL to AVGN? Or is that too easy?
Great episode, man. I can’t believe the Literal Street Fighter and Tetris games. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!
September 5, 2015 at 1:16 pm
Someone was suggesting exactly this scenario in the comments of the last AVGN video. As for the scenario James raises with all 3 of the guys being dead, I think I might have had something to do with that. 🙂 Seriously, though, James is definitely blurring the lines here. He have you think you’re going one way, only to veer off in another direction.
A thought occurs to me, though- what if the AVGN really died in that Looney Tunes episode, and AVGN is in hell? What if Board James is one way that the AVGN is tormented there. What if hell, for the AVGN, is simply tormenting himself over the negative aspects of his life?
So many possibilities abound. I suspect we haven’t seen the end of this story arc. Not by a long shot.
September 5, 2015 at 3:23 pm
This is the crossover I’ve been waiting for for a long, LONG time!! Finally!! Thank you, James for taking my crossover idea seriously!
September 5, 2015 at 4:14 pm
Now all we need is an AVGN episode that focuses on video game adaptations of board games, and the circle will be complete.
I’ve been waiting for this crossover episode ever since that AVGN Games AVGN episode where Board James shows up with an AVGN Monopoly. I felt like that the way you were able to naturally act with yourself was amazing! And now you’ve just cranked that dial up to 11!
September 6, 2015 at 7:05 pm
the way i saw it,the nerd has a split personality, the other being board james.the title card backed the theory up too.
September 6, 2015 at 7:13 pm
Two ghosts, huh?
September 6, 2015 at 7:14 pm
Two ghosts (click here)
September 6, 2015 at 7:15 pm
September 6, 2015 at 7:20 pm
(now it should work; please delete the previous posts if possible)
September 7, 2015 at 6:24 am
Exactly. Another argument to support the theory that he’s stuck in some kind of purgatory.
September 5, 2015 at 6:30 am
All I want to watch is a Fight Club-esque movie exploring Board James’ fractured mind.
The minute I saw the frame it was obvious it’s Mike and Bootsy 🙂
September 5, 2015 at 6:40 am
Wow this was awesome!
Love where the series has gone, this is amazing
Great stuff James
such an awesome ending too.
September 5, 2015 at 6:44 am
Board James script has been crazy good this season. It shows just how talented he really is.
So I guess the next AVGN episode will be “Video Games based on Board Games”? 😀
If AVGN turns back into Board James at the end of it, I’ll shit myself. The loop will be closed.
September 8, 2015 at 10:31 am
I wonder something like that, its interesting since in the latest episodes AVGN seems mellower, so we have Board James becoming more like the Nerd, and maybe the Nerd becoming more like Board James.
The episode was such a brilliant origin story for the Nerd.
On the other hand, Board James already appeared in an AVGN episode suggesting theyre two different people, not the same?
September 5, 2015 at 3:06 pm
September 5, 2015 at 8:46 pm
May be; I offen pass up the board james videos since I’m more on high tech guy. In fact one my teachers focused me to play Monopoly with the older kids and he did it knowing that the older kids bully me and that I never liked board games; and she lost her job.
September 5, 2015 at 7:03 am
Best one ever!!
September 5, 2015 at 8:06 am
I actually liked the board games, could be very fun with couple of friends and a lot of beer
September 5, 2015 at 8:24 am
This video Inspired me 🙂
September 5, 2015 at 8:53 am
I owned both the pacman and zelda board games as a kid. Those were some fun games!
September 5, 2015 at 9:06 am
I expected Board James playing video games made of board games actually 🙂
September 5, 2015 at 10:05 am
Maybe that will be the next AVGN. XD
September 5, 2015 at 9:38 am
Wait, if Board James is the split personality of AVGN does that mean that AVGN is the split personality of Nostalgia Critic? Because as we all know NC is the split personality of Doug Walker and this can only mean that all of them is the schizophrenic reincarnation of… Mr. Bucket.
September 5, 2015 at 10:04 am
I called it! I fucking called it!!
September 5, 2015 at 10:08 am
That was great! 😀
September 5, 2015 at 10:14 am
THAT ENDING. I KNEWWWWWWWWWW IIIIIIIITTTT :DDDD
September 5, 2015 at 10:28 am
This… is fucking awesome. We know that they exist in the same world because of the avgn video games episode, but to see them in the same episode on something they connect on is a great idea! Um, should I be using “they” or “him”?
September 5, 2015 at 10:30 am
Great episode! Now, have the Nerd play video games based on board games!
Btw, what were those numbers scratched on the sofa right at the end?
September 5, 2015 at 11:09 am
In previous episodes, you had this too at the end, and when counting it, it was giving the current episode’s number.
This time though, it gives the number 30 while it’s episode 25. So there are 5 more episodes ? And maybe this is actually the last episode hence it shows 30, the next ones might actually happen before.
September 5, 2015 at 1:08 pm
September 5, 2015 at 11:16 am
Actually, the boardgame BattleCon Devastation of Indines IS an excellent StreetFighter 2 Boardgame without the SF2 theme. It’s about Street fighting and it’s really well done!
Really good strategy situation, the theme is well integrated and there’s about 30 dif. characters to choose from. 10/10
September 5, 2015 at 11:20 am
September 5, 2015 at 11:28 am
James, you really outdone yourself with this episode of Board James. You’ve gotten to become a real expert at video making, and it shows here in this episode. The story telling was really good too. You’ve really made my day with the production of this video. 🙂
September 5, 2015 at 11:30 am
Thanks very much
September 6, 2015 at 3:07 pm
No sir, thank you. 🙂
September 5, 2015 at 11:29 am
Umm, seems to me as if there needs to be an Angry Video Game Nerd Board Game. That product should have been a no-brainer years ago! I’d buy as I’m sure thousands more would. Get on it, team!
September 5, 2015 at 11:59 am
Weird but entertaining.
September 5, 2015 at 12:21 pm
The odd thing is the AVGN said he’s going to play some videogames but he hates playing them ,lol.
September 5, 2015 at 1:41 pm
he only hates playing the shitty ones we always see him playing….
September 5, 2015 at 6:15 pm
and lately he often finds something of value about the game. His seaman review was pretty positive.
September 5, 2015 at 1:09 pm
Liked it, the theme remix was boss
September 5, 2015 at 1:26 pm
the end sorta reminded me of a certain scene from Metal Gear V
September 5, 2015 at 2:00 pm
Great video. I hope this isn’t the end of Board James. Anyway, James, did you ever see Persona? It is a movie by Ingmar Bergman. I dont know if it is your style of movie, as it is a really slow and subtle drama, but the director does some funny things with overlapping faces to suggest a blurring of the identities of the two main actresses. You might check it out as a followup study to this video which might give you some more ideas for things to do in the future.
September 5, 2015 at 2:34 pm
I LOVE the dynamic in this episode! It was both hilarious and trippy.
September 5, 2015 at 2:48 pm
I thought that the Dream Phone episode was the perfect ending for Board James. Then you guys came with more and more awesome episodes and incredible good twists! I Loved it!
But this! THIS IS GENIUS! So that’s why The Angry Video Game Nerd (Who also has some dead imaginary Friends – that guitar skeleton Kyle) wants so badly to review shitty games! This is incredible good and well done.
I can’t say how much I apreciate your work here! Thank you Cinemassacre team!
September 5, 2015 at 4:04 pm
He wouldn’t have a split personality if he was able to finally beat Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde on the NES. Those demons will always haunt him until he finally wins that game.
September 5, 2015 at 4:15 pm
That’s an interesting thought. What if James’s fractured personality came as a result of playing Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde to no avail as a little kid. All the frustration and anger and sadness manifesting itself into two separate and distinct personalities. Talk about blurring the lines of fantasy/reality!
September 5, 2015 at 4:08 pm
WOW! What a revelation!
September 5, 2015 at 4:12 pm
Fantastic episode James! Thanks so much for it!
September 5, 2015 at 5:02 pm
James is this your way of saying the AVGN videos are coming back in a big way? You’re gonna focus more on AVGN videos and they’ll be more frequent episodes?
September 5, 2015 at 6:07 pm
I hope it wasnt teasing and Nerd will get prevail over James, nothing personal, James, just want new episodes of AVGN, there are tonns of shitty games left, you must, I started lern english because of Nerd episodes, do not disappoint me, go get em, they spoil my childhood, and i hate most of them! and love to hate them together with Nerd!
September 5, 2015 at 6:19 pm
Initially I thought that James was getting lax with the format here. This level-headed informative back story intro felt like it belonged in a recent AVGN ep. Board James they usually just get down to playing the game right away. Turns out, it was meant to blur the lines between the two and obviously it did a good job.
September 5, 2015 at 6:22 pm
soo…the AVGNerd is the split personality of Board James? thats FUCKEN AWESOME!
September 5, 2015 at 6:34 pm
I really hope this doesn’t mean that all the adventures of the Nerd were just some schizo hallucinations, including his own epic movie, as that’ll honestly be really lame.
September 5, 2015 at 7:03 pm
Will there be another?? will we find out what mike and bootsy really are??? now what does this mean for either character??????????????
September 5, 2015 at 7:27 pm
Holy shit that ending – after watching these videos for years and YEARS, I can honestly say that was a hugely emotional “NO WAAAAAY” moment. Is this intended to be Cinemassacre ‘lore’? Either way, awesome.
September 5, 2015 at 8:13 pm
I predict that in the next episode, Video James will be reviewing video games based on board games! 😀
September 5, 2015 at 10:06 pm
This is one of your best work. You weren’t kidding a couple of months ago when you said some really interesting board james was coming up.
September 5, 2015 at 11:18 pm
If I remember, James said that October won’t have a Board James episode because of Monster Madness.
After the revelation in this video, making us wait till November for another installment is just cruel, man. But, MM (favorite time of the year) is just around the corner, so it’s still a win-win situation.
September 5, 2015 at 11:32 pm
I just hope there’s another AVGN coming out before then.
September 5, 2015 at 11:33 pm
So this is how James became Avgn.
September 6, 2015 at 12:39 am
I’d been thinking that sometime the Nerd universe would merge with BJ and things would get awry. Looks like I’m right?
September 6, 2015 at 2:38 am
September 6, 2015 at 7:14 am
And then he reviewed Castlevania 2
September 6, 2015 at 2:37 pm
GREAT GREAT GREAT video, one of the best ever!
September 6, 2015 at 5:16 pm
Omg, so boardjames is actually Avgn the beginning! Waaaaaaa
September 6, 2015 at 7:01 pm
Shitload of Fuck! Classic.
September 6, 2015 at 9:42 pm
Those board game videogames are a shitload of fuck!
So, Board James was AVGN all along? Or, is Board James going more crazy? Or is Board James AVGN’s alternate personality? 😀
September 6, 2015 at 10:11 pm
The music at the end was awesome!
September 7, 2015 at 1:12 am
The mario game is horrible
September 7, 2015 at 3:43 am
Does it mean the board james is gone? Well, I don’t care much.
September 7, 2015 at 6:20 am
So if Bored James and the Nerd are the same person then who is Bullshit Man?
September 7, 2015 at 10:43 am
James wearing an mask. See you saw someone go into a hispoal as an human an come out days letter an Racoon/Fox combo. That guy or gal wound sill be them self’s but will never look the same forever.
September 8, 2015 at 8:06 am
The bigger question is: who is shitpickle?
September 8, 2015 at 2:30 pm
Bullshit Man is…bullshit
September 7, 2015 at 6:28 am
I’m still thinking about this episode days later. I know James won’t say for sure, but if Board James really is the precursor to the Angry Video Game Nerd, it just makes both characters that much richer. I have no idea whether this was just a one-off episode, or if this is actual Cinemassacre canon, but I can hardly wait for the next installment. This is great “cinematic” fare for a web series.
September 7, 2015 at 6:32 am
Hmmm. “It’s like trying to play a game of chess by yourself. Everything you do on one side counter-acts the other.”
September 7, 2015 at 8:47 am
great episode it kept getting better good ending to
September 7, 2015 at 8:49 am
i cld not stop laughing at that mario game with the ladders.its like trying to describe a dog turd which sides better lmao!!!!!
September 7, 2015 at 9:51 am
Okay … these videos are seriously starting to mess with my head. Though I have to say I always love watching the Nerd and Board-James interact with each other. ^^
September 7, 2015 at 2:49 pm
So does this mean an AVGN review of board game video games? I know I have wasted countless hours playing nintendo monopoly.
September 7, 2015 at 7:16 pm
Are the characters Board James and AVGN the same person? Like a split personality?
September 7, 2015 at 9:19 pm
I teared in the end. Great episode! Does this bring an end to Board James? I hope not!
September 8, 2015 at 3:29 am
Is this the last BoardJames video then?
On a serious note, have you tried Doom: The Boardgame? It’s pretty fun 🙂
September 8, 2015 at 8:13 am
Friggin sweet ! The crossover finally happens ! Its like the origins of AVGN, nicely done James.
September 8, 2015 at 10:01 am
So Monopoly for NES on next AVGN?
September 8, 2015 at 10:17 am
I loved this episode – absolutely fantastic, especially when he rants at the end but then cant believe what he just said.
Are we saying James has a split personality, or was he slowly turning into the Nerd like a Jekyll and Hyde kind of thing?
In the few episodes before this one, he’s gradually sounded angrier.
September 8, 2015 at 2:26 pm
On the contrary 😀 there Street Fighter monopoly game.
September 8, 2015 at 10:01 pm
Wow, this one was amazing James
, so good!
September 9, 2015 at 12:25 am
I totally called this.
September 9, 2015 at 4:05 pm
Now you just need to do an AVGN on board game-video games! Cycle complete!
September 9, 2015 at 6:25 pm
A video game in a board game = terrible idea. A board game in a video game (like Mario party) = good idea.
September 9, 2015 at 9:49 pm
All this video needed in the end was to show Board James/Nintendo Nerd (as it were at the time) popping Castlevania 2 into the NES.
September 10, 2015 at 1:33 am
Whoa. James just M. Night Shamylan’d my ass. Bravo.
September 10, 2015 at 5:54 pm
Also, pacmen appears prism-shaped… Rather than a sphere.
September 10, 2015 at 8:37 pm
Epic as FUCK! Awesome video as always, James. So does this mean no more Board James? Great mash up! Thanks for all the great videos. <3
September 10, 2015 at 10:24 pm
SO board james is the prequel to AVGN, wich is why his friends are dead and never appear in avgn? holey shit! lmao or was it just a coincidence?
September 11, 2015 at 5:09 pm
September 12, 2015 at 6:12 am
Love hearing the electronic sounds toward the end of the vid! Man its 80’s….embrace it. Plus I’m down for some video game horror Monster Madness style! Best horror games ever brings a ??? to me. Maybe Silent Hill? LOL!!! Looking forward to Monster madness to blow my mind as usual!
September 13, 2015 at 9:14 am
Your ever evolving story arcs are very fun James, subtle and engaging. Your a great artist, keep on rockin!
September 13, 2015 at 8:57 pm
Stuck with two ghosts for all eternity huh? well that makes me think of your two ghosts James. Ya’know MIKE & BOOSTY!!
September 13, 2015 at 9:10 pm
what does 553 mean?
September 15, 2015 at 10:26 am
I loved that one! Great music at the end!!!
September 17, 2015 at 11:31 pm
I think James Rolfe is dropping hints that the current season of Board James is all taking place inside James’ mind, since he is locked away in a psycho ward.
In the opening episode of this season, James is in the attic, which I think is James’ way of letting us know this takes place in James’ mind. He also uses the phrase: “childhood relics that have been locked away for so long” leading me to think that he is currently in a mental institute and his only way to cope is to remember the games from his youth.
We’ve already seen the “stitch” marks in front of the game shelves, and now we’ve seen more over by the mirror along with a hangman doodle. Pretty representative of images from patient cells.
In the Full House episode, Mike and Bootsy talk like therapists. I think this is a way in which James sees his therapists in the fantasy world he has created.
There are two different scenarios I’ve been able to come up with.
1. James did kill Mike and Bootsy in the Dream Phone episode (or possibly long before when they were kids) and is now locked away.
2. James never had any friends and is schizophrenic and currently locked away.
I also don’t think that James is the AVGN. I think that he imagines himself as being him. James does look at videos on the internet as seen in the Mr. Bucket episode so it’s possible that James’ anger can manifest itself as the NERD.
Just some thoughts.
Oh, and if you can’t tell already, I absolutely love the work you guys do on here. Take all the time you need to keep up your level of excellence.
September 18, 2015 at 11:51 am
Some very interesting points you have! I’ve also noticed in one epiosde of Board James he has a Metroid cap on, so he does know about video games, also in this episode (Video Games) he talks about the “asinine Atari 2600 version” of Pac Man, or “Wish I was playing the real Zelda [the video game] instead”
