Great video! I played the Genesis version growing up and I’ve always wondered if the NES version is harder or easier. Have you guys spent any time with the Genesis version? Also, I’m looking forward to your strategy videos, Bootsy!

That rubber duck reminds me of the rabbit from The Holy Grail. It looks innocent enough but it will kill you.

    WELL ACTUALLY, therefore techincally:
April O’Neil in the comic is a black woman. (And not a reporter.)

    There ya’ go Mike.

Nice job bootsy. Looking forward to the new videos. As for Bucky O Hare I was lucky enough to have this game in my original collection from my childhood before it became a $100+ game. I was 7 years old at the end of 92 and I proudly beat that son of a bitch. Truly an underrated classic that should be in everybody’s top 10 NES.

  • July 27, 2015 at 2:51 am

    Bootsy Beats All. Off.

Nice. Can’t wait for Bootsy’s protips. Talk about taking you back to the past… it sounds like a combination of Tips and Tricks guides and those old “Learn Guitar” VHS tapes.

Looks like a nice one, return to form, of sorts. I’m gonnan save it though, till after playing the Rare Replay on my Xbox One. Wouldn’t want to get stuff spoiled yet.

  • July 27, 2015 at 11:56 am

I feel like I’m having a nervous breakdown seeing those levels again.

Since you guys like the Dark Queen and think she’s pretty hot (and who doesn’t?), I found this one day and figured you might get a kick out of it:

I think Bootsy should play Blaster Master next. In my humble opinion, it’s one of the hardest games on NES.

Bootsy is some kind of deity. I mean, he is not from this world that’s for sure. I think “The Wizard” was in fact a documentary about Bootsy’s childhood.

  • July 27, 2015 at 4:46 pm

    Bootsy is a gaming God!

This is the one episode where I was like “shut the fuck up, James and Mike! Let the man concentrate!” ๐Ÿ˜€ Good on Bootsy for making it through, he’s definitely the best gamer I’ve ever seen. And I dig the hour format. I like seeing games through its completion. Good job all around, guys!

    July 27, 2015 at 9:50 pm

A 1 hour video? Man, I can’t believe you guys made such a long vid! (And I can’t believe I watched it)! ๐Ÿ™‚ It was worth it, though. Bootsy is a god among video game players. Can’t believe how skilled the guy is. The man must have superhuman reflexes!

  • The Kaleidoscopic God

    July 27, 2015 at 9:54 pm

That ending genuinely made me happy. I always did feel like we never got enough Bootsy.

  • July 27, 2015 at 10:23 pm

I owned this as a kid, I was able to make it the last level with and without warps, but could never make it to the end of the stage as hard as I tried. Finally got to the see the end…Bootsie you are a bad ass

  • Wayne

    July 27, 2015 at 11:10 pm

It is funny you guys mentioned the cracker eating contest in The Three Stooges NES game. That particular sub-game can go on forever if you just go after (and are able to get) one cracker each round, and you could potentially raise all the money needed to win the game just from it.

There is no way Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde is the hardest NES game… somewhat boring and a little tedious, yes… difficult, nope.

  • July 27, 2015 at 11:46 pm

This is a lot harder than Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I almost beat Jekyll and Hyde. If I tried a bit harder I probably could have.

  • bud

    July 28, 2015 at 7:14 am

You guys need to beat Jekyll and Hyde before you die.

This kinda reminds me of Dynamite Headdy, starts off easy enough, simple and fun. The spiral level of that game(similar to this one, at 54 minutes) I was able to pass only once, and to my frustration(though not disappointment) I recall the level after that being even harder.

Damn Mike, what happened to your eyes you look really out of it! They’re super dark and swollen lol, but anyways yeses I love the longer videos! I know it takes hours and hours of editing and work but I’m willing to wait as long as it takes, keep em comin!

Great video, guys. That game looks so hard. It’s not only hard, but it’s unfair. I doubt I could ever beat it. Bootsy’s new show sounds cool, though.

Holy jeez, this is awesome! I’m halfway in, and this is already incredible! I’ve never gotten past the snake pit on my own, and have never seen anything past the level with the water and that cog-thing chasing you. Bootsy is doing a great job of playing, and you guys are giving great commentary. Thank you!

  • August 22, 2015 at 8:16 pm

Seen you three playing and having fun that way makes me remember my Saturdays afternoon back in the early 90’s with myou friends. Thank you guys to bring me that feeling back.

  • Aaron1375

    August 31, 2015 at 1:19 am

I won the game, but only with an emulator and save states. Even with that though, I almost could not get passed the level with the lollipop chasing me because something about using any controller other than an NES one making that stage incredibly more difficult that usual.

Fun little bit of trivia I forgot to post at the time this came out:

“Cartridge” refers to the protective shell… so both NES games and VHS tapes are technically cartridges. The technical term for the game technology is “ROM cartridge”.

We just call them VHS tapes because the terminology was established by open-reel audio tape. (Same reason we refer to movies as “film”.)
