  • April 6, 2015 at 2:15 am

This one of the few games along with Streets of rage that my wife will sit and play with me ๐Ÿ™‚ Nice to see you guys giving the mega drive some attention.

Except like typical nintendo fan boys they shit all over it.

Newsflash James and Mike, Golden Axe 2 is one of the best video games from that era. When you were pushing the magic button you have to HOLD IT DOWN to use them all. The more you use the more amazing the animations get and the harder they hit.

Do us Sega guys a favor and just quit playing our games, nutmnuts.

How do they “shit all over it”? They’re not very good at it, sure. The “fuck THIS game” comment, I don’t even that stuff like that seriously from these guys.
I think the problem is they don’t play for long enough to really learn and understand the games.
WTF does “Ow you gained my strength” mean? Everyone who played Golden Axe knows that number is the end ‘score’. Even though it’s weird that it cuts out like that.
I like James and Mike, but they really suck sometimes at logical videogame thought.
There’s been so many times I was screaming at the screen, trying to explain a very obvious mistake one of em made. It’s usually Mike (sorry bro ๐Ÿ˜› )
I guess that’s also a time issue, like they’ve got to ‘rush’ through to get it done before the deadline.
I suppose it somewhat influences the verdict of the ‘review’ but for me I mostly watch the video’s to see em fucking around and talking. My opinion on Golden Axe 2 isn’t swayed by this video ๐Ÿ˜›

@John Arce: Yeah, kinda. Although it was funny, It’s a bit like they wouldn’t comprehend how to use the ‘random shit knife’ in Super Ghoul n Ghost. They ditch it as being the worst weapon when it’s actually one of the best lol

        Against Firebrand anyway.

Please play Turtles in Time arcade! You’ll probably have to use an emulator though, because I don’t think there was ever an official release of that game on XBL or PSN.

  • April 6, 2015 at 3:30 am

Wow that’s a pretty big design flaw. I’m glad I live in a time where “playing the entire game over again” isn’t as much of a thing, although there are both benefits and drawbacks to it. However, beating a game back in the day was much more satisfying from what I remember.

But not letting one player continue if the other one died? That’s BS.

  • albajos

    April 6, 2015 at 4:03 am

Yes, that was an odd end. But did you perhaps play it on easy? The game can’t be completed on easy, it just ends after 5 of the 7 levels.

To quickly go to level 6 just so you can end the game, there is a level select in the menus ๐Ÿ™‚

Hold A + B + C and press START at the introduction screen. Release B and C, but continue to hold A during the code sequence. Place the cursor over the Option selection, and press B + C. Highlight the Exit selection, and press B + C. Highlight choice of players, and press B + C. Pick the Normal game mode, and press B + C. Highlight the character, and press UP + B + C + START. A black screen will now show a single number in the center of the screen.
Release A, and use A & B to select a different level number. Press START when you have the correct level number selected.

I wouldn’t call the original Zelda cartoon the worst show ever, but what ruined it for me was the character of Link. I’ve always found him as a Steve Martin wanna be. “Excuuuusssse me Princess!” At least the games took the character seriously.

  • Matthew Collins

    April 6, 2015 at 8:31 am

Yeah, the game ended early because you were playing it on Easy.

  • April 6, 2015 at 8:39 am

Yeah, I always choose the dwarf too.

    April 6, 2015 at 9:14 am

James & Mike, I’d like to request a James & Mike Monday playing Bloodborne! I’d love to see how well Mike does. ๐Ÿ™‚ Cheers.

Hey, you guys should play Gauntlet Dark Legacy for the gamecube. I just picked up a used copy the other day, incredibly fun fantasy hack n’ slash.

You mention Bruce Lee… please, I’m waiting for years for a Bruce Lee Movies review or history… anything!!! Fits so well on this site, it is a must.

    April 6, 2015 at 10:41 am

Regardless of whether they were playing on Easy or not they should have been allowed to get farther than that. Even on Easy, when you DO get to the early ending, it gives a fake ending telling you to try again on a harder difficulty. It should NOT just reset the game in between levels!
James, you gotta clean your Genesis or your Golden Axe II cart! The Glitch Gremlin has struck again!

For the magic to be more powerful, you need to hold down the magic button and release when the meter at the bottom of the magic meter fills up. The numbers on the meter indicate different magic attacks. The higher the number, the more powerful the attack. I have no idea why the game reset like that. Never seen that before.

There is a updated version of all the Golden axes on playstation 3 Sonic the hedgehog. And its better graphics then this one. Also Golden axe 3 is the best in the series!

Show us that Trojan game you kept mentioning! Or try the Genesis version of Shadowrun for a few hours! A bit grindy, but still good.

I love it. these videos are great, I look forward to them every week. thanks guys, I really can’t get enough cinemassacre

  • April 6, 2015 at 1:46 pm

great video as always but I noticed this video wasn’t on youtube.. are you going to stop putting videos on youtube because of nintendo’s unfair new policy of taking 60 percent of your ad revenue after your forced to submit any video featuring nintento trademarked stuff in it?

  • Gerald Robinson

    April 6, 2015 at 2:08 pm

Golden Axe is NOT a good series. It did not hold up from when we were kids.

  • Alex Brinkman

    April 6, 2015 at 2:50 pm

A lot of the time with these older controllers, the only problem is corrosion on the contact preventing a proper connection which can easily be remedied with some alcohol and q-tips. I bought a Mega Fire Genesis controller from a flea market and the B button didn’t work so I popped it open and of course there was corrosion on the contact. Polished it up and it works perfectly fine. Doesn’t take long to do either and those controllers are easy as heck to take apart/put together.

  • Moondog

    April 6, 2015 at 3:08 pm

the game didn’t end because one of you died, if you read the story that came up i’m pretty sure it says why, you need to complete it on normal difficulty or higher. also when using your magic you need to hold the button to light up more bars for higher level magic, just pressing it once will only do wimpy level 1 magic.

My favorite episodes of the Legend of Zelda cartoon weren’t even actually episodes of the Legend of Zelda cartoon itself, but episodes of Captain N: The Game Master that featured Link and Zelda (voiced by the same VAs from the LoZ cartoon). Link was much less annoying in those than he was in his own series.

As a kid, I used to pause this game and jerk off to the female warrior. Desperate times called for desperate measures.

Holy shit. Somebody get this guy a Victoria’s Secret or Frederick’s of Hollywood catalog, STAT!! (that’s what I used as a kid)

That was 1992. I wised up and started shoplifting Playboy and Penthouse by 1993.

  • April 6, 2015 at 6:18 pm

Pro-top: Use the jump down stab attack by running and then jump attacking, the most overpowered move in the game. You can repeatedly knock down enemies with this one move.

  • gluserty

    April 6, 2015 at 7:36 pm

Cool video, but that’s terrible that in two player mode for this game the surviving character (in this case, Mike) loses their progress too. What an idiotic setup.

  • beavischrist

    April 6, 2015 at 8:34 pm

Cool video. Just a small factual correction: the best beat em up of all time is actually Asterix Arcade.

  • oscuro

    April 6, 2015 at 9:56 pm

Yeah you have to play harder difficulties to get farther. nice how it tells you that. This was always one of my favorite sega games despite some of its issues and repetition. I just liked the style, music and enemies I guess.

  • April 6, 2015 at 10:20 pm

I think it’d be awesome if you guys played through the Jurassic park games

  • April 7, 2015 at 5:50 am

there was a golden axe on ps3 it was called beast rider real shitty

    April 7, 2015 at 5:21 pm

If you have spare time you can always open up some of those controllers and clean them out, some times years of crap just clogs them up. Some alcohol on the contacts and new rubber button things will make them like new most of the time.

    April 7, 2015 at 7:17 pm

I remember emulating this on my PC back in the 90s. I was literally blown away at the fact that it was THE ARCADE version running at home!!. System16 I think was the emu. In the days way before mame.

    April 8, 2015 at 6:18 am

golden axe 1 2 and 3 are the SHIT! awesome 2 player games but the 3rd is the best, do you guys know how to play video games? lol

  • April 10, 2015 at 9:26 pm

A lot of the times you can fix buttons that don’t work by taking the controller apart and gently cleaning the contacts on the circuit board with a pencil eraser. I did this many times when I was a kid.

  • Ben_from_G-town

    April 11, 2015 at 1:39 pm

I remember renting the Golden Axe games all the time and enjoying the heck out of them. According to some other folks here, you can hold down the button for stronger magic, and you can’t beat the whole game on easy mode. It just stops after a certain point.

  • Aaron1375

    April 12, 2015 at 8:37 pm

Golden Axe was one of the main reasons I pestered my parents into buying me a Genesis. Shame the Genesis version was not as good as the arcade. This one looks tough, never played it.

  • April 14, 2015 at 1:01 am

You should try “The King of Dragons” for SNES too.

  • April 14, 2015 at 3:56 am

You guys had the magic set on pussy mode. There’s an option where it builds up and kicks ass but you were using it one at a time. Blows.

  • April 19, 2015 at 8:06 am

Turtles in time in snes was way better than the arcade with some speed more and a couple of graphics here and there and the voices in bosses. The voices were eating allot of space in a cartridge so they left that out.The music on snes and the entire game was way cooler than the arcade, you don’t believe me double play it if you have forget it and stop remember what you want to remember only for once.

  • Kent Gissing

    April 24, 2015 at 2:38 pm

Turtles in Time for the SNES, hands down! Just the fact that the arcade version omitted the technodrome stages as well as several canon characters like Rat King, Slash and Bebop & Rocksteady is just weird.. I remember like instead of Slash, you fought some pile of poo in the prehistoric age.. O.o …

    April 24, 2015 at 2:56 pm

You have the game on easy. That is why the game reset. And you can set the magic to use all the of the blocks at the same time for more powerful magic. The female summons a fire-breathing dragon at full power.
