        March 10, 2015 at 9:02 am

        Haha,I saw that, too.

      • December 21, 2015 at 3:48 am

I noticed it, I had a physical response to it, but I completely forgot it by the end of the video… They’ve been playing too many games together

  • Mikey Stone

    March 9, 2015 at 12:19 am

Such a classic, Im gonna have to change my diaper after this game. I just sharted.

  • Allen Lucas

    March 9, 2015 at 12:30 am

I wouldn’t hold your breath James! Krang may or may not be in the next Ninja Turtles movie but if it does, I guarantee you that they will make it look really stupid!

  • Don Skiver

    March 9, 2015 at 12:35 am

As much as I like Lifeforce, I wish you guys would have done Friday the 13th again. That video was awesome.

    • Allen Lucas

      March 9, 2015 at 12:42 am

I hope they do Nightmare on Elm Street at some point! Maybe have James, Mike, Bootsy, and whoever else they choose try the 4-player mode!

  • GameCom

    March 9, 2015 at 12:36 am

Awesome video, always entertaining to watch you guys play games with coop mode.

  • Mark

    March 9, 2015 at 12:45 am

Definitely a classic! Was wondering when this would come up.

  • March 9, 2015 at 12:47 am

    Please.. Play Golden Axe

  • Brandon Winters

    March 9, 2015 at 1:29 am

I bet if Silver Surfer were two player co-op, both players would die if they shoot or even touch one another. And yes, you both would go back.

Ideas: Bubble Bobble for James and Mike Mondays and Castelian for the AVGN.

  • Alpenjodler

    March 9, 2015 at 3:05 am

Do Rivercity Ransom or Kunio-Kun games in general ^^

  • judgen

    March 9, 2015 at 7:47 am

Strange that in Japan it was called Salamander, In some countries of europe it was called “Gradius – Nemesis 1” for some reason.

    When it’s on PC it’s not called a Homebrew or a Hack, it’s called a mod. 🙂

I am a PC gamer, so I am familiar with many mods and total conversions. I am intrigued by the ones on consoles though, as it’s much harder to make a homebrew or a hack than it is to mod a game on PC.

    • March 9, 2015 at 10:51 am

Eh not quite. I actually make said mods/hacks. There’s no set definition, but typically a mod is something that is done within the limits of a game’s engine, such as adding or modifying character packages or ect. A hack is when you dig into the hex of the EXE or the memory of the running game, making it do something that it isn’t supposed to do.

So adding a new character into MK9 is a mod… my wrapper that allows shang tsung to morph into any character via editing in game memory is a hack.

  • March 9, 2015 at 8:43 am

Yeah, do Earth Worm Jim! In my opinion, the game is fucking hard, because of the platforming, but I´d like to watch you play it, since I´m fed up with it. 🙂

Fantastic video guys! One of my favorite NES games. You guys should also do a play through of Gradius III on the SNES. Life Force was basically a remodeled Salamander, which was a remodeled Gradius, and both Salamander and Life Force both take place within the Gradius universe. Gradius III is on my top 5 list of best SNES games.

    March 9, 2015 at 9:23 am

Earthworm Jim would indeed be an awesome game to play through….. also oddworld would be nice to see….. the one game i am truly surprised neither of you have ever done or even mentioned is Zombies Ate My Neighbors….. ive been waiting years for you guys to play that!!!!

  • bulbasaur15

    March 9, 2015 at 9:52 am

#001 Now I’ve never played this game before. But one thing I’ve noticed in the game as well as other numerous SS shooter games that always seem to bother me is that you CAN’T SHOOT BACKWARDS!! Like seriously what the hell? Enemies and projectiles are coming from the rear and you can’t defend yourself? I saw 2 bosses that you guys were fighting it’s just ridiculous that your only window of offense is if it stays on the right side of the screen. Would it kill the developers to at the least incorporate a powerup where it gives you that ability to shoot backwards? Heck even Silver Surfer gave you that option and that game was terrible!

    • DragonOfTime

      March 26, 2015 at 7:32 pm

This game copies Gradius and in that game you CAN shoot behind you 😀

  • NashKnight

    March 9, 2015 at 9:53 am

I think it is called “Life Force” because it is inspired by the horror movie of the same name (check it out if you haven’t, it pretty rad in a trashy kind of way), in the beginning of the movie there’s a kind of a huge organic spaceship which the main protagonists fly trough.

    • March 9, 2015 at 10:56 am

Nope. Life Force isn’t even the game’s true name. It was renamed for north America to Life Force but the true name of the game is Salamander. You know that little green snake at the end of the game? That’s what the game is named after.

In the original Japanese version the cut-scenes showing the big organic bacteria you fly into and the “entering X zone” stuff wasn’t even there. That being said the developers liked the organic bacteria motif so much that they later re-released the game in Japan and modified several sprites to make the entire game look totally organic and subsequent sequels used that motif.

Played Life Force and didn’t mention Gradius?? Earthworm Jim would make an awesmoe J & M M!

  • March 9, 2015 at 11:02 am

Gradius 3 seemed to borrow a lot from this game, hope you guys play that one someday, great soundtrack, challenging, and you can choose your ships powerups. But Life Force / Salamander, definitely seems like a solid game, always enjoy seeing you guys do co-op.

  • JayRam

    March 9, 2015 at 11:10 am

You guys mentioned the lack of weapon variety in Life Force. There’s a game called Thunder Spirits on SNES that you might want to check out for a future James & Mike Mondays episode. The weapons you get are pretty cool.

  • Zach Standig

    March 9, 2015 at 1:01 pm

Salamander and life force are confusing, lots of versions depending on console and region.

I know there’s a Salamander hack for the Japanese Famicom version, mostly cosmetic to match the arcade.

  • Glorious Gerbil

    March 9, 2015 at 1:45 pm

Best schmup ive ever played…but i havent played very many though! Me and my brother used to grind this like idiots when we were kids. I love this game

  • BADam

    March 9, 2015 at 4:22 pm

Loooved this game! Every problem you listed can be explained away as it was a straight port from a coin-op. Also Abbot and Costello playing FF7:
    “which one am I?”
    “No! you’re-Fie”
    “No, I’m cid”
“I’m sad too now, I hate it when we fight”

  • AxBunny

    March 9, 2015 at 4:26 pm

Do a J&M Mondays episode of Earthworm Jim you assholes! Seriously tho, it’s one of my fave games of all time, and if you do then choose the Genesis version because the SNES one doesn’t have the Intestinal Distress level.

  • Dean Nielsen

    March 9, 2015 at 5:16 pm

I recently revisited this game via the Wii U’s virtual console before bed on the GamePad and I will admit that I cheated with the save-state, but this is one of those frustrating games that require trial & error to win, not to mention the insane difficulty if you don’t use the power-ups right. Well done!

  • Zachary Johnson

    March 9, 2015 at 5:20 pm

    what happened at 00:51 ?

  • Dean Nielsen

    March 9, 2015 at 5:24 pm

I want to see a gallery of levels that take place inside of bodies: LocoRoco, Life Force, Contra, Bonk’s Adventure, Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside, Super Ghouls N’ Ghosts, etc…

  • Dean Nielsen

    March 9, 2015 at 5:37 pm

Fuck… shit… I know that took you guys a LONG time thanks to the video cut.

  • March 9, 2015 at 6:31 pm

There is a Anime Based on this Game.

  • chris jackso

    March 9, 2015 at 6:44 pm

when was this recorded? if your not talking about the Michael Bay TMNT then what one are you talking about? makes me think you recorded this before the movie came out.

  • juggernautakira

    March 9, 2015 at 9:32 pm

Holy shit, guys, you have to get the two options then you wont be dying so often. Plus, the missile weapon helps tremendously.

  • frostare

    March 9, 2015 at 9:40 pm

I’m gonna get so bashed for this but… I also grew up watching the original cartoon of TMNT, and with regional jokes from my country in the dub too (something not many appreciated). But, in my eyes and senses, the current Nickelodeon one has surpassed it; my hat is off to the guys that made it happen.

It’s safe to say at least that kids currently growing up watching it have nothing to ask the 90s version.

  • gluserty

    March 9, 2015 at 10:14 pm

Good game, fun playthrough to watch.

  • AbareKiller

    March 9, 2015 at 11:24 pm

For a fun co-op NES game, give Heavy Barrel a try… very fun and similar to the top-down levels in Super C.

  • pleasetakeabow

    March 9, 2015 at 11:45 pm

    +1 Earthworm Jim.

  • michael marien

    March 10, 2015 at 12:18 am

another Konami game Monster in My Pocket

  • Anthony33

    March 10, 2015 at 1:47 am

One hit kills are bullshit. That’s where infinite lives codes come in.

  • March 10, 2015 at 4:06 am

Apparently, not only Krang, but Bebop and Rocksteady will be in the turtle sequel. We’ll see how bad Bay can fuck it up. Speaking of, you guys should play Turtles III on NES. I would love to watch that played through again.

  • March 10, 2015 at 9:01 am

I like how you guys never seem to have any powerups, and then I noticed you did the 30-ship code. It’s like you just said “fuck it” on this one and got lazy 😛

  • Morten Morgan Sørensen

    March 10, 2015 at 12:19 pm

Hehe, how about in South park the stick of truth where you climb inside the asshole of the gay guy? Thats one my top ten weirdest ( not to speak of disgusting) moments in video gaming :p haha

  • March 10, 2015 at 12:27 pm

The real name of this game in japan is Salamander..!

  • Jay Pennebaker

    March 10, 2015 at 3:08 pm

No good weapons? You guys are crazy! You’re doing it wrong. You guys kept going for the ripple gun and never got the options item. If you get laser once, then 2 options, then 2 missiles you wreck anything that comes on the screen. This used to be one of my favorite games.

    • Jay Pennebaker

      March 10, 2015 at 3:10 pm

Oh i forget, after you get the 2 missiles you upgrade your laser again. Then you are maxed out.

  • Internoob

    March 10, 2015 at 6:11 pm

Great video guys! I love when you play games like this. You guys should try out Super R-Type III for SNES. It’s very similar to this, minus the simultaneous co-op, and I personally think it’s almost as hard as Silver Surfer!

  • March 10, 2015 at 6:14 pm

    Concrapurtations you destroy gallbladdrr

  • DudeSean

    March 10, 2015 at 8:09 pm

You guys should play Legendary Wings. It’s another flying shooter for the NES. It was made by Capcom. It’s pretty good, but hard. It was one of the games that I grew up with and I never seem to see anybody talk about it. It’s also got 2-player co-op.

  • horrorshow

    March 11, 2015 at 7:43 pm

I’d like to see them play goof troop together.

  • Ben_from_G-town

    March 11, 2015 at 8:36 pm

That game looks pretty cool. Kinda like a 2 player Gradius.

  • March 12, 2015 at 10:51 am

Life Force was a great when I was a kid. It’s too bad I was never good at it!
Hope to see you guys play Startropics someday!

  • Links24

    March 12, 2015 at 9:51 pm

  • ai

    March 17, 2015 at 10:21 am

You guys played this in college, and you don’t know the awesomeness of having 3 options and laser and missles? Maybe if you don’t use the code….but I destroy this game. One of my fav as a kid.

  • ai

    March 17, 2015 at 10:25 am

With the skull…you shoot it when the mouth is open. If you listen, you’ll hear a sound when you’re hitting the boss.

  • March 21, 2015 at 9:23 am

I was wondering how you guys got so far, this game is really tough without codes and co op. To get the full challenge and really appreciate the great weapons you need to play this game solo with no cheats. Just my thoughts on why this game might not hold up in mikes opinion!

  • March 21, 2015 at 9:56 am

LIFE FORCE, is actually a movie of 1985 based on the onominus book of Colin Wilson:”The space vampires”. How appropriate. It really asks to be reviewed now.

  • DragonOfTime

    March 26, 2015 at 7:29 pm

Have you guys played Gradius before? Its on the NES and also made by Konami. This game is Gradius but with co-op. There is also Gradius 3 for the SNES and that one is amazing! I can’t wait to buy this game becuase ive been playing Gradius for years and now I get to co-op with my friends! But seriously, If you havent played Gradius go do it LoL

  • March 27, 2015 at 1:23 am

Awesome video as usual, great game!*Neeeaaa* The “Tink tink” sounds are what indicate bosses taking damage.

  • Aaron1375

    April 8, 2015 at 3:18 am

I thought you guys were breezing through this one a bit too well. You used the Konomi code…which, I don’t really blame you. Honestly, I think this one is harder than Silver Surfer without it.

  • July 29, 2015 at 4:10 pm

Playing with a cheat makes this game seem like its not challenging, but its hard as shit! The weapon system makes more sense when you play without the code, you have to stay alive and keep upgrading the weapons to have a chance. Just my 2 cents, love this game!

  • December 21, 2015 at 3:45 am

There was another game I’m thinking of too, I don’t think you get shit out an ass or anything, but you are inside a human body. It was a Sega game “Microcosm”, and I loved it despite all of it’s difficulty…

  • Grandmasterp

    February 18, 2016 at 2:15 am

Almost had a no death run but that last thing closed in on me before I could get though. Noooooooooooooooo!
