    Agreed James.
This film isn’t that great or fun. It might be my least favorite of the series. Even though I find 7, 8, and 9 as the lowest sequels, I do find them fun and interesting. The only thing I really love is the ending due to the music and cinematography of that beautiful lake with those perfectly colored fall trees.

  • February 9, 2015 at 1:37 am

The interesting thing is that when I saw it on TV, that ending scene happened in the way that you wanted it to happen, and the credits rolled. It was perfect!

    February 9, 2015 at 1:47 am

On the ending: the ending of this movie, with Zombie Jason (ZJ) pulling the girl into the lake followed by the survivor waking up in a hospital, is perfect for this movie. In the context of a long series of films with a supernatural killer, I agree that ZJ is the perfect place to end this film, but this is the only F13 movie that wasn’t part of a long series of films with a supernatural killer. It was a one-off, low-budget slasher flick where the killer was a normal human woman.

PS: there’s an episode of Psych that does a pretty good job as an affectionate parody of this movie. It’s called Tuesday the 17th, and it’s worth checking out.

Another (albeit only ten part) Monster Madness!!?? James you mad genius, this is one hell of a treat.

Yee Finally! My favorites from the 80’s! Make a full commentary too 😉

  • February 9, 2015 at 4:45 am

    Fuck Yeah James. Fuck Yeah!!!

  • February 9, 2015 at 5:22 am

I also think it weird that Pamela goes from a killer who just murders people in gory ways, to being in a cat fight with Alice instead. It’s one of the reasons i’m in the camp the believes that Mrs. Voorhees isn’t the only killer but Jason is too. I think Pamela only killed the two kids in 1958, and she killed Christy. But all the others are Jason. It’s makes sense cause A.) some of the body parts of the Killer looks male, and B.) going by later movies Jason is Alive that night watching the beheading. and during the final scare when Jason grabs her it’s Jason adult Jason. only because he grabs her from behind. she think it’s kid Jason.

    • Allen Moore

      June 28, 2017 at 5:18 pm

Jason’s mother actually thinks Jason really did die & she took her revenge but he didn’t really die he was in the woods watching the whole time & he seen his mother get her head cut off so he gets his own revenge

I’m curious if you have seen any of the itallian giallo moves. Like the ones from Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci, and Mario Bava. I would say slasher movies where born from there. Italian films in the 60’s and 70’s where already incredibly gorey and alot of the 80’s hollywood movies stemmed from them using all their cliches etc

  • February 9, 2015 at 6:40 am

Can’t wait for this series of reviews! I saw distinct trilogies within the series; that’s how I categorize them. See what you think!

Excellent review. I never thought about it, but I think it would have been better if Mrs. Voorhees was introduced during the course of the film. I still like it though (too bad the gore was cut, a la 1981’s “My Bloody Valentine”, also released by Paramount. Paramount: scared of their own horror).

Nice review. I remember watching the Friday the 13th marathon on MonsterVision. It was a lot of fun.

  • February 9, 2015 at 10:18 am

I totally agree, James. Our local theater had a showing a few years back. Everyone in the theater cheered and went nuts when Jason pulled the girl under the water. Then there was just an awkward silence with that scene afterwards.

So much content this year. I remember the earlier years when there was always a new video to watch. Due to the movie taking so much of their time, we all got used to having 1 a month if we were lucky. Having all these new videos is like Christmas all year round.

I’m surprised you weren’t watching horror movies as a child, I thought it would be a given. I was born in ’82 and started watching horror movies around the age of five so Freddy and Jason were in full swing at the time. My brother and I used to visit a grocery store which had a video rental section out the back (i’m pretty sure it was illegal) and the Indian guy running the place didn’t give a shit how old you were, he’d let you rent anything!

  • February 9, 2015 at 11:41 am

Awesome! I’ve been a big F13 fan ever since i saw the movies when i was 10 and the guy who ran the local video store didn’t care. I’m definitely one of the ones who badly wanted James to cover each movie during Monster Madness, so it’s great he’s doing it now.

BTW, is he going to cover that remake movie that came out a couple of years ago?

In the UK, Kevin Bacon is being used for an advertising campaign for EE. In the cinema adverts, there’s all the different movie versions of Kevin Bacon (Footloose Bacon, A Few Good Men Bacon) including the Friday the 13th Bacon who has an arrow threw his chest (guess his neck would be too graphic).

  • February 9, 2015 at 12:13 pm

i love how in the newer movies they say jason is scared of water but clearly not as he must be a good swimmer to sneak up on that boat lol

    You guys are great!

  • February 9, 2015 at 12:42 pm

Awesome! I´m so glad to see another series of movies going to be reviewed by you. I´m not a big fan of Friday the 13th, but I really appreciate some changes aside from the Monday-Gaming experience. Thanks!

Thanks for taking our requests into consideration and giving us MM in February!

IMHO the true series ends with Tommy. X is the great but Freddy vs Jason is Scream with monsters and that makes it best.

I really enjoyed your criticisms for this review. I never got past the note-making phase for my review, and had to keep reminding myself not to sound like a fan because— as you said, these movies are fucking awesome. As always, I love the references to older horror movies when reviewing newer ones. And finally— I really want to know the rules for Strip Monopoly.

Now all you Friday the 13th nuts can *finally* quit your bitching about not having your favorite slasher franchise inundate monster madness by taking up 1/3rd of the entire month *at minimum*.

Not a huge Jason fan, but I do have respect for what the original film brought to the slasher genre.

    February 9, 2015 at 10:29 pm

Oh my god, this is SUPER exciting for multiple reasons. Here are two:

    1) I’ve been waiting for this series to be reviewed during Monster Madness for EVERY SINGLE YEAR MM has happened. Instead we got something EVEN BETTER:

    2) These reviews OUTSIDE of an awesome MM this year. Double the pleasure, double the fun!

Oh my god I am SOOO happy you’re finally doing this James. MASSIVE Friday The 13th fan. Recently watched the entire series last year in a span of a week, and also started rewatching it again. Classic moments and amazing film series that just captivated me from start to finish for some reason. Can’t wait for the new film in November and always wanted to see you review them all, and the day has come! 🙂

  • February 10, 2015 at 1:32 am

I been a fan of the Friday The 13th series ever since I saw The Final Chapter in theaters when I was like 2 years old, one of my gripes with part 1 is that Alice is so dumb she has Mrs. Voorhees incapacitated several times an instead of tying her up she just stares at her an walks away… she deserved to get killed.

Another top draw review, James has always opened my eyes to the classics Dracula and Godzilla for example, but i love when he reviews movies from my youth I remember and love so much. The Haloween and George A. Romeros dead series are my favorite reviews up to now they all hold alot of nostalgia for me but these new Friday 13th reviews are right up there. I’ll look forward to seeing the rest over the next couple of months, and I’ll definately be watching the movies again very soon…..while also avoiding boating on creepy lakes.

  • February 10, 2015 at 5:32 am

    Thank you James!!

  • February 10, 2015 at 6:37 am

Great video! It’s like a little Monster Madness: Sequel-a-thon in February, and I’m totally OK with that. =D

  • February 10, 2015 at 5:23 pm

there is a problem with adobe flash player on this video… it keeps crashing when I try and watch it… its getting annoying… ):

  • February 10, 2015 at 10:55 pm

I am surprised that nobody mention that the ending of this movie is almost identical to Carrie 1976.

They tacked on the ending of young Jason jumping out of the lake, that’s why it doesn’t totally jive with the film or the timeline. But it worked and got the jump scares and people talking so they left it in.

  • February 13, 2015 at 6:30 pm

I keep getting an error processing error #1009 what dose that mean

    February 13, 2015 at 11:36 pm

excellent REE-VIEW:p I started watching Friday The 13th when I was about 8. I’ve been Jason at least 10 times for Halloween.

Thank you for this. Next October you should review the saw films also.

I just watched this again a couple of days ago (on Friday, February 13th) with my dad. You should have seen how jumpy he got sometimes.
I’ve thought about buying this movie, but the snake scene still pisses me off because the snake was real and I don’t want even a fraction of my money going to Tom Savini or Harry Crosby. I might eventually buy the uncut special edition used as a compromise.

Thanks for doing all of these! This will be cool!

  • February 19, 2015 at 9:57 pm

You’re right James. This was an extremely Jersey movie after all. One thing you forgot to mention which was certainly a Jersey nod, was the killer’s last name. Voorhees, New Jersey is five minutes down the road from Haddonfield NJ.

maybe jasons immortality has something to do with native american folklore.
i noticed some native american references in the movie (althought just small ones like a “commanche” tag on one of the cabins, the guy dressed as chieftain, etc)
also there were a few tribes in new jersey and water monsters are something quite common in their folklore.
the last thing that made me think it may have something to do with native american folklore is the whispering that plays over and over again. it kind of reminded me of some sort of prayers or so…
maybe im wrong but it´d be nice if someone can find anything.
all i can find are native american water serpents, dragons-like things, etc

i meant jasons origins…not just his immortality

Does anyone find it odd the person reviewing these made the comment that he could not understand why Mrs V is a classic…because it don’t have the mask. He also made references to Mrs V resorting to slapping after ” Jason Kills”. Well, sir from someone who can send an email to multiple movie groups and theaters arounds the country, allow me to say…Mrs V does not do Jason Kills…Jason is the sequel in this story. And since you don’t seem to understand why a classic plot and story line, that was recommended for movie awards for best Story but was declined for it’s horror status….is a classic. This tells me your a Jason freak, and have no talent to be involved in this project. I recognize your voice from You tube…as the moron in the car trying to influence fans into picking a sequel to 2009. He asked if we wanted them to go another direction..but then started flashing pics up of 2009 to influence fans to go that route. No, we can have you removed from a project to produce an award winning story, that should have been recognized years ago. This is why Platimnum Dunes are getting less and less calls for movies…their writers have no talent, nor do they take the time to research to see what makes a profit margin high. When that movie does get it’s award…you will make sure Besty Palmer is recognized for her Classic Flip Out performance that sparked an icon and 11 sequels.

  • November 13, 2015 at 11:31 am

Watched all these movies as part of my Halloween. If I knew There was a Friday the 13th coming up I would have saved some of the best. Glad to see this awesome collection of your work.
