December 18, 2014 at 3:19 am
Damn there’s a lot of content this month. Nice!
December 18, 2014 at 3:28 am
Fantastic episode. I loved Mike’s appearance at the end and your earlier reference to a lacking of dog biscuit power-ups.
December 18, 2014 at 8:25 am
i was actually expecting the bullshit man!
December 18, 2014 at 3:30 am
December 18, 2014 at 3:54 am
I hope james does videos, forever.
December 18, 2014 at 3:57 am
That was probably the best ending of all Nerd episodes, heh.
December 18, 2014 at 12:53 pm
i disagree it’s good but the best is when he finds out that maximum carnage is a ljn game and he likes it
December 18, 2014 at 4:05 am
If you’ve seen Lethal Weapon 5 or 6, the character change from white to black should come as no surprise.
December 18, 2014 at 4:22 am
ha ha ha. Love that show!
December 18, 2014 at 9:19 am
Don’t forget the XXX love scene.
December 18, 2014 at 4:53 am
James is right about the movie games…except Goldeneye.
December 18, 2014 at 6:20 am
He was doing the Joe Pesci rant from LW 2 and a lesser extent LW 4.
December 18, 2014 at 5:19 am
Just knew that was going to be Mike who walked on. Would be cool if he did the whole next episode as Angry Video Mike!
December 18, 2014 at 6:15 am
“Mel Gibson and Danny Glover played two undercover cops”
No they didn’t.
The game choices are so great for these mini reviews. One thing I never got was that they didn’t call it ‘Lethal Weapon 3’. It was released in the same year as the third, going as far as using the poster for the box art, but they still didn’t want the ‘3’. Why?? Sure there’s no games based on 1 or 2 but still… i’d be lying if i said it didn’t bug me. I loved the SNES version of this game.
December 18, 2014 at 7:44 am
Hilarious. Have Mike in more avgn eps ! If he wants to that is.
December 18, 2014 at 9:08 am
I’m getting some mixed messages here, you start out by saying it’s average and that the graphics are “pretty good for NES” just to say later, that “they fuck you with the graphics” and that the game sucks… which is it?
December 18, 2014 at 9:17 am
He’s just making a general statement that when movie games are made, they usually fuck you with the graphics…they’re never their full potential. That’s just my thought on it.
December 18, 2014 at 9:15 am
That was fucking awesome!!! And the thing with Danny Glover being off screen. I always thought about stuff like that if you have a teammate off the screen.
December 18, 2014 at 9:22 am
I’am getting to old for this sh*it HAHAH
December 18, 2014 at 9:25 am
December 18, 2014 at 9:40 am
YEEEEEEAh. DAT ending. eheheh
December 18, 2014 at 9:49 am
Oh hello Mike 😀
December 18, 2014 at 10:09 am
Please do “The little Mermaid”
it’s my gf’s favorite game, so pls show her how terrible it is. 🙂
December 18, 2014 at 10:26 am
Hahahaha the last part!
December 18, 2014 at 10:39 am
mike you motherfucker!
December 18, 2014 at 12:01 pm
December 18, 2014 at 12:36 pm
When were they undercover in Lethal Weapon?
December 18, 2014 at 1:16 pm
That ending is impossible! Awesome but impossible!
December 18, 2014 at 1:33 pm
Haha Mike Cameo YESS!!! 😛
December 18, 2014 at 1:54 pm
Goldeneye and King Kong were good. So were the modern Ghostbusters,Godfather, and back to the future games.
December 18, 2014 at 2:22 pm
My favorite movie game:
Indiana Jones and the last crusade – the graphic adventure by Lucasfilmgames (shortly before they became Lucasarts).
Your entries are all valid, as far as I’m concerned… eventhough I never played King Kong.
A view to a kill – amstrad
The spy who loved me – amiga
Gremlins the text adventure – Commodore 64
Return of the Jedi – Amiga
All of the Super Star Wars games
December 18, 2014 at 2:07 pm
Hey great vid! I have the same exact xmas tree.
December 18, 2014 at 2:38 pm
You ought to play Pepsiman for the PS1.
December 18, 2014 at 2:41 pm
Wait… there’s someone around who DOESN’T want to be Mel Gibson the whole game? 😀
December 18, 2014 at 3:12 pm
The ending…LOL. Great review, I would have to say Ocean put together a better looking game then LJN would. They would be shooting dinosaurs and collecting balloons or some shit. Also the game is called “Lethal Weapon”…..but they are using the poster art from Lethal Weapon 3 for the cartridge.
December 18, 2014 at 3:39 pm
LOLLL, this is, in my opinion, the funniest of the Twelve Days of Shitsmas episodes thus far. xD And I agree, the ending was hilarious! xD
December 18, 2014 at 3:45 pm
I thought Mike didn’t exist in the Nerd universe. Weird. Unless that was another of Mike’s characters.
December 18, 2014 at 3:47 pm
ocean were worse than ljn, their amiga ports sucked rectum
December 18, 2014 at 6:42 pm
My fav shitmas video so far, the ending was great!
December 18, 2014 at 6:44 pm
great ending. specifically about the shitsmas concept, i love it and these are really great. thanks for your work!!
December 18, 2014 at 7:16 pm
Heh, I saw the Super Nintendo game of Lethal Weapon earlier this month on Game Grumps. Strange how only the NES version is a beat-’em-up like this, while other versions are sprawling platformers with somewhat big-headed sprites where sometimes it’s unclear what you can grab onto. I think they all have pretty nice soundtracks, though.
December 18, 2014 at 7:23 pm
All four of them are classics!
December 18, 2014 at 7:55 pm
Who is mike? Herb doesn’t know anyone named mike.
December 18, 2014 at 8:13 pm
The rant straight from Lethal Weapon and the ending made my day. Thank you guys.
December 18, 2014 at 8:18 pm
Walking off screen to select characters. That’s a new one! 😀
December 18, 2014 at 9:02 pm
Freaking loved the ending. 🙂
December 18, 2014 at 9:20 pm
Good video. I play several movie based games and I do agree most are barf as well. I have played the SNES LETHAL WEAPON and thought it was ok. I still felt the best movie based game was CUTTHROAT ISLAND though. It actually wasn’t half bad.
December 18, 2014 at 9:52 pm
Dude! Mike Matei did an awesome job delivering that famous line by Danny Glover at the end here.
December 18, 2014 at 10:02 pm
In AVGN games the nerd doesn’t know any Mike. What does this mean?
December 29, 2014 at 6:21 pm
Mike lives in the negative space outside of the Nerd’s field of vision? 🙂
I guess if he’d looked at him in the Nerd movie when he had his cameo he’d disappear or something. Good thing he’s immune to that from Guitar Guy.
December 18, 2014 at 10:23 pm
Love the Leo getz reference and motherfucker Mike.
December 18, 2014 at 10:37 pm
Finally Mike is in a video as himself. haha
December 18, 2014 at 10:57 pm
So does this mean Mike is the Murtaugh to James’ Riggs?
December 19, 2014 at 12:20 am
Excellent video; to be fair, Ocean released many movie & television show (“Miami Vice”, “Airwolf”, etc.) as well, and from what I gathered, most of them are subpar. This version of “Lethal Weapon” seems okay though.
December 19, 2014 at 2:28 am
I want to comment on two things.
1. FINALLY! Mike Matei returns for a cameo in an AVGN episode! Awesome, just awesome.
2. I really appreciate this year’s Christmas special. With all the deadlines and work around Monster Madness, Halloween and getting the movie distributed…this is really a gift for the fans. And it’s 12 fucking parts!
Thanks and Happy Holidays James & Mike
December 19, 2014 at 4:17 am
To be fair, walking off-screen seems to me at least somewhat realistic. It beats just ‘transforming’ into the other character on the spot. Surprise at dinosaur peak springs to mind, where the game REQUIRES you to turn from Fred to Barney, sometimes in mid jump. How the fuck does that make sense?
December 19, 2014 at 4:34 am
Arf! You’re saving the big presents for last, I see!
December 19, 2014 at 5:09 am
Merry Shitsmas everyone!!!
December 19, 2014 at 10:30 am
I love these videos, but that “Goblins and Gnomes” song is driving me insane!
December 19, 2014 at 11:03 am
Nice game. Must buy it for myself for Christmas!
December 19, 2014 at 12:10 pm
Agreed, James.. In all my years as a gamer, I have learned to really just stay away from movie-based games… just as I stay away (mostly) from movies BASED ON games. Both concepts are bound to be letdowns because what worked as a game or a movie isn’t guaranteed to work as the other… in fact, there is a 99% failure-rate and you are almost certain to leave the theatre or your TV-couch in disappointment..
December 19, 2014 at 2:02 pm
What’s the name of the game @ 1:23!? Thanks in advance. 🙂
December 19, 2014 at 4:10 pm
There was a good game based on a movie: Goldeneye64
December 19, 2014 at 4:37 pm
Your foot is as strong as a bullet?
Maybe your bullet is as strong as your foot in this game.
Think about it.
December 29, 2014 at 6:18 pm
The department budget for bullets really has gone downhill.
December 19, 2014 at 4:52 pm
Hey, James and Mike, having problems with your comment system. I tried to post a comment, but both times I did so, it got gobbled up. Could you look into this? Thanks!
December 19, 2014 at 4:53 pm
This happened last night, sometime, when I was trying to post it. This is the 3rd time in the past 2 weeks or so that this has happened.
December 19, 2014 at 10:52 pm
maybe if you can play as Leo getz if you fall off in a pit. Nerd is right bout getting fucked by movie based games, but not all the time… goldeneye and die hard trilogy are awesome movie based games. I played goldeneye way more than FF7 and I put 100+ hrs into that game according to my save stat. I also think Gremlins 2 for NES is a good adaptation to a game from movie.
December 20, 2014 at 1:20 am
haha i see what you did there mike “i’m getting too old for this shit!” imma have to re-watch the movies now
December 25, 2014 at 11:35 pm
It’s funny how these are getting better the closer we get to #1……makes sense to me. Bravo!
December 26, 2014 at 2:39 am
Yay its Motherfucker Mike
December 26, 2014 at 8:14 am
Its easy when they releasing a movie based game they throw all their money to the title.Lethal weapon, terminator, robocop, aliens and stuff they believe that those are gonna be sell well. And of course they dont care brother, why caring for the consumer? Most of the times when it comes to movie based games they will be pretty nice but blunt,or shit as hell.
December 31, 2014 at 12:40 am
“I’m getting too old for this shit” haha 🙂
January 4, 2015 at 8:51 pm
haha, its so good to hear those goldeneye death sounds being used in such a shitty game. I know they are not from goldeneye originally, heard em in some old movies, but man, the joy.
YAK! YEUWWW! OEEUHW!! OEAAGHH!!
January 8, 2015 at 12:46 am
i would like to point out that the snes version of the game is completely different, its a platformer, not a beat-em-up. just in case you thought it was the same game with amped up graphics
January 20, 2015 at 6:41 am
The end of that was hilarious! Did they quote those lines in the game? Thanks a lot!
March 17, 2015 at 5:03 pm
April 1, 2015 at 2:33 pm
hahaha great leo impression jaja
May 18, 2015 at 7:36 pm
haha I loved the ending of this one. Great stuff. Also, some of the Addams Family games were decent. Certainly playable. That is some of the only exceptions that I can think of off the top of my head though.
May 18, 2015 at 7:56 pm
I was kinda bummed that this wasn’t a longer episode where you reviewed all the different ports of this game. Maybe James doesn’t own them all??
August 11, 2015 at 4:33 pm
Lethal Weapon for the SNES is actually worse. AVGN you should review that one, it is an unforgiving disaster of a game.
September 22, 2016 at 2:16 pm
should have added clips from the movie funny ones
