It’s time to finally finish this! Yeah!!

  • z_thompson

    November 3, 2014 at 12:38 am

The game is significantly easier if you get all the chests…

  • dcco

    November 3, 2014 at 12:47 am

there’s a chest at the beginning, which pops up if you walk over to the left. too late saying it now though.

Nice Contra 3 Alien wars maybe

    November 3, 2014 at 1:55 am

Cmon Mike. I’m not the greatest film editor, but you can turn the saturation down on the footage. You should know better 😀

    • Xen11

      November 3, 2014 at 2:54 pm

I like the saturation. I like it alot.

  • November 3, 2014 at 2:10 am

Why would you leave the treasure chests? That’s just stupid. It could be armor upgrades.

    • November 3, 2014 at 5:24 am

They obviously now not much about this game..they also give wrong information or just bullshit. Tell me what armor piece they had on and where the chest was and I can tell you what is inside.

    • November 4, 2014 at 4:22 am

I thought we made it pretty clear we were avoiding treasure chests because we didn’t want to accidentally get knocked into a shitty weapon.

  • darxide

    November 3, 2014 at 2:10 am

You know you can control the Scythe once you throw it, right? You can make it arc up or down. It doesn’t have to go straight.

  • darxide

    November 3, 2014 at 2:12 am

Also, if you have the Gold armor and the Tri-Blade (that knife that flies all over the place) you get Nuke Magic which is the strongest magic attack.

    November 3, 2014 at 3:30 am

Why didn’t you guys show the last boss? :/

    November 3, 2014 at 4:00 am

I don’t know if you two are entirely aware of this, but, James and Mike, you’ve achieved the impossible: making Monday a day worth looking forward to. I love J&MM, each game you guys play is like embarking on an adventure with all involved, the frustrations and victory are mutual and it’s just absolutely fun. And everytime either of you mention and show just how many games you really do intend to play, I think it’s safe to say that there are many, many more Mondays for us to look forward to. Thank you both for taking your time to do these and sharing them with us.

Love the vids but sometimes it´s frustrating to watch you guys. It´s the same as with the Denis the menace video where you couldn´t ind the turbo button ( same as in mario and every other game ever) during however many hours you had to film the footage. Here you can´t even manage to get the golden armor, which you can basically get every 3-4minutes if you open all the chests. Sometimes i wonder if you guys are even real gamers or if everything is just footage you got through passwords

Awesome final video on the game. I don’t blame you for putting in the code. I would’ve done the same thing. Having to replay the game is BS.

I’ve been waiting all week for this. Love it! I was inspired to play through ‘Ghosts ‘n Goblins’ before and I think I might got through this one too. Wish me luck.

oh man thanks god that beat it.. like two episodes were all just on that one part..
the longer the video went I was sure they werent going to beat it.

October was fine, the monster madness was great.

I understand this is not about a skillful play-through. You stink at this game.

I had to register and say that the strategic use of weaponry is based on the player skill and choice, some better than others. Chests should be treated as power-ups. The lack of fun you had with this game was frustrating.

Aw, man. I was getting into this with you guys.

If I could toss in a small suggestion, you guys look like you need something to hit during these videos 😉

  • Alex Row

    November 3, 2014 at 12:21 pm

I feel your pain guys. Those red devils are probably among the most (if not the most) insidious video game enemies ever devised. Although that being said, Demon’s Crest is one of my fav snes games, go figure.

    November 3, 2014 at 12:21 pm

I’m not going to read all the posts, but I cannot believe the video game nerd doesnt know that the specialness of these weapons is with the gold armour. The super attacks with these things are amazing. I remember as a kid using the scythe with gold armour was the best, for me.

    Hi guys

  • Joker83

    November 3, 2014 at 12:29 pm

Awesome video, I was laughing really hard with you guys watching this!
My buddies and I finally beat this game around ten years or so ago. We figured out that the Armor upgrades power up the weapon, and I remember focusing on that.
Anyway, great stuff! Ghouls ‘N Ghosts 3 Parter has become one of the best James and Mike Mondays! Thanks!

  • November 3, 2014 at 2:46 pm

did nobody else notice “Tall Knob” as a credit?

  • Kipp Davis

    November 3, 2014 at 3:47 pm

What is with all the comments that tell them they’re doing things wrong? Do you watch these for James and Mike, or do you watch these to bask in how much more you think you know about games? I’m not trying to flame though, fun video.

  • November 3, 2014 at 3:47 pm

What a trilogy!!! Man, that’s insane that you have to beat the game twice, but I’d probably do it as a kid. These days I’m whip out that code as soon as the start screen comes up.

  • November 3, 2014 at 4:18 pm

Don’t think it’s fair to judge the weapons unless you test them out when the suits fully powered to see what they can do.

    • November 4, 2014 at 4:17 am

It’s a hard game so the armor upgrades don’t usually last for very long. That being the case, I think it is fair to judge them mostly for their base ability. The upgrades are awesome while they last though.

      • November 4, 2014 at 12:08 pm

exactly, if you can play this game longer than 1 level with gold armor you’re a pro i guess.

  • November 3, 2014 at 4:22 pm

If I could make a suggestion for future Monday Game plays, it would be Jim Powers The Lost Dimension 3D on SNES, good game, but damn is it hard. But otherwise these videos are the only thing I look forward to on Mondays, keep at it cause they’re awesome!

  • Goro3d

    November 3, 2014 at 5:26 pm

Well played mike and Jame but those chests are always there its a matter where you jump to activate them I spent hours jumping everywhere to activate hidden chests.
Ya that cheat saved me a lot of annoyances after many hours of pointless replaying so I came upon it from a friend who had Nintendo power and it just happen to be an issue with that cheat and I wrote it down and it worked haha!
Can’t wait to see what you guys do next Monday!
Good job on defeating the game even if we all cheated to do it lol :P!
Have a good one guys hopefully see you next weeks video :)!

  • November 3, 2014 at 5:42 pm

hey, you guys need to play “daimakaimura” which is the pc engine version of ghouls & ghosts. as far as graphics go, it looks way better than super ghouls & ghosts, but looks hard, if not harder.

  • November 3, 2014 at 11:08 pm

cool now play Ghouls ‘n Ghosts fo sega genesis

  • colt

    November 4, 2014 at 3:40 am

    Yeah, keep blaming the weapons!

  • Baltharoy

    November 4, 2014 at 4:07 am

It’s cool to see other people be frustrated at this game. I’d like to see them try to really beat this game with that shit-house bracelet weapon.

  • November 4, 2014 at 9:53 am

Wow. Lot of SNES elitists in the comments. They’re just playing a fucking game, guys. They’re not trying for the top of the fucking Ghouls ‘N Ghosts leaderboards.

    • Lastor

      November 4, 2014 at 11:00 am

Right? It’s kinda fun though, too. Like a warm-up to actually measuring ding-dongs.

  • November 4, 2014 at 1:59 pm

You guys are far too concerned with the strength of the weapon at its base level and not nearly concerned enough with how it performs with the green or gold armor. You claimed that you didn’t like the lack of strategy in weapon choice(i.e. this one works best at this particular level, whereas another one will work best on another level), but you aren’t understanding how the game executes this:

    1. Some weapons are great with gold armor or green armor but poor at base level
    2. Some stages have more/more easily found secret chests
    3. Some stages are easier to complete w/o getting hit and therefore you can play with a shitty base level weapon knowing that you likely won’t get hit before you get the gold armor

These factors make weapon choice a very interesting thing in this game. You need to double jump more to make sure you find the chests, especially in the early easy levels.

Speaking of that red demon, is anyone else all kinds of happy that Demon’s Crest is on the Nintendo eShop?

  • Tommi Heikkinen

    November 5, 2014 at 1:31 pm

I just completed this game yesterday. Only the knife and the dual arrow are useful weapons. I hate that thing that just launches itself randomly around the player…

    November 5, 2014 at 5:13 pm

I think those videos are great guys,I sincerely hope that you two would tackle “Demon’s Crest” one day,it is on underrated classic that even Mike have mentioned couple of times, cheers.

  • November 10, 2014 at 8:43 pm

I beat that game people and trust me use the arrows, thats how you can end it pretty easy.Using the bracelet is another storry though.

I liked the Genesis Ghoul’s game better. Its easier I think. You guy should play and compare. By the time I played the snes version, it was the PS one era and I had no patience for this.

    November 24, 2014 at 11:34 pm

James when you said I just need to kill that guy(9:10)….I felt the pain in your voice lol..I know exactly how you feel man. I remember playing this game at my cousin’s when I was younger. I remember getting very frustrated at this game as well. Greaat video guys. You guys always make me laugh man.

  • December 9, 2014 at 3:08 am

Terrible gameplay. The chests appear when you make certain jumps or run through specific spots on the stage. Use the chests to upgrade your weapon. This game is a piece of cake when you keep the homing arrows from the beginning. I’m just frustrated watching them play this game so ineptly and clueless!

  • Aaron1375

    March 24, 2015 at 12:51 am

This one definitely had the better ending.

  • December 20, 2015 at 4:25 pm

You’re right James, there isn’t much difference between weapon strengths. But, I think, every weapon does the same damage, with exception of the dagger (only slightly weaker than the rest) and the crossbow; a godless weapon (possibly the weakest, unless you hit with both bolts. Maybe it’s stronger than the knife then). It’s all about the upgraded weapons or the charged weapon… Haven’t finished watching it yet, “GERDBRUCK” (My Starfox impression)
