Dracula’s Daughter (1936)

Mike Matei / October 28th, 2014

Bela Lugosi is absent in Universal’s only direct sequel to the original Dracula. Gloria Holden plays Countess Marya Zaleska, the reluctant vampire who wants to be free of her father’s curse.

Good stuff…I never knew about this movie. Dracula had a lesbian daughter? She needs an appearance in a Castlevania game…say maybe she shows up and tries to seduce Sypha away from Trevor Belmont…and we find out she’s really Simon Belmont’s grandma? Ah…the things you think of when you have insomnia at 2 am, lol. ^_^

They already have Carmilla, who’s original character I’m sure was some inspiration for Dracula’s Daughter.

If memory serves, in Rondo of Blood, she has a cat-girl helper of some sort, too. At least in the PC-Engine original, I haven’t gotten to try the remake yet.

Plus, she’s like, one of those “vampires with a soul” or whatever. Gives her a bit of charm or something.

Universal Horror, still holds up to this very day, great review Cinemassacre.
Are you going to do House of Horrors or some other movie with Rondo Hatton?

God, I must be the only one who thinks Lugosi was overrated as hell as Dracula. He was great in other films, but his Dracula always came off as hammy and funny-not in any way “hypnotic” like James says. I mean, the guy was great in other roles, but as Dracula…nothing special to me at all.

Ahh how many ‘daughters’ has Dracula had in pop culture? Though the mainstream one right now is surely Draculaura I’m sure not many know remember Sibella.

Apparently I have this one. I forgot about it. It’s on the Dracula: The Legacy Collection. I watched Dracula and Spanish Dracula but the sequels sounded corny so I never gave them a chance. It actually looks pretty interesting though.

Just registered here to say this (if Mike or James is around): There is a Dracula game on Atari Lynx that might be appropriate to check out in relation to the Dracula theme. It’s pretty good! Just played it through yesterday.

I don’t see what was lesbian about it. A woman killed another woman. Doesn’t make her a lesbian. Why does everything anymore have to be about pointing out someone being gay or lesbian. The reaching some individuals go to to make someone out to be gay or lesbian is ridiculous. Two guys rent an apartment together must be gay, two girls hold hands on a roller coaster must be lesbians. It’s absurd.
