Definitely not how I would have done it but it’s still entertaining with the 3D effects and action scenes.

i hate action movies nowdays…its like the whole movie is cgi…as james said years ago…the perfect use of cgi and action was in terminator 2…the last cgi movie i enjoyed was lord of the rings…its so annoying. the turtles from the first live action movie were that succesful cause they looked very humanlike in their costumes….the depressed scene in the wooden house was awesome.

and in addition … megan fox was borring in transformers and she was annoying as april o|neil….april is a hot redhead. the redhead from the avgn movie would have fit perfectly.

I couldn’t disagree more on the looks. I don’t think the turtles have EVER looked better.

      August 11, 2014 at 12:04 pm

      No…just no…they looked horrible in this film…borderline TMNT 3…

      • August 11, 2014 at 10:07 pm

No way man, Their new design was the one thing that didn’t blow. They look so unbelievably badass, it’s not even funny. But then again, this is coming from someone who thought Henson’s animatronic suits looked stupid, so never mind.

        August 12, 2014 at 9:13 pm

I agree the first tmnt movie was fuckin awesome the 2nd was just ok the 3rd sucked and they continue to suck like the cartoons but cartoons today suck anyway for the most part.

      • August 13, 2014 at 1:02 am

No they looked far worse.. far far worse.

Bay films has this odd quirk where he wants to put human faces on everything, like he did with the transformers.

What’s wrong with the turtles are their faces. It literally looks like they took some black guys, rubbed green paint on their faces and then used that cheap computer compositing effect to past their faces on footage of cgi turtles.

The face doesn’t match the body.

Also how the hell can you be a ninja, a martial artist known for their stealth, when you are the size of a small car?

      August 11, 2014 at 12:14 pm

Also, Casey wasn’t in TMNT 2, and Shredder wasn’t in the 2007 movie because it was intended as a sequel to the first 3 movies.

Already beat you to the Casey Jones thing in my post below…

I agree, thought they looked super badass. Can’t say they same about Splinter however but the turtles looked fantastic. Looked like actual mutants

  • y2j420

    August 11, 2014 at 12:04 pm

Casey Jones wasn’t in TMNT 2…

    August 11, 2014 at 12:26 pm

There wasn’t that much of Shredder because William Fichner’s character was originally going to become Shredder. However, people complained that you can’t change a character’s race so the script was changed at the last minute.

    • Senna4ever

      August 12, 2014 at 7:46 am

“people complained that you can’t change a character’s race so the script was changed at the last minute.”

They have changed established character’s race many, many, many times in films previously.

Sorry but if you honestly believe that is a genuine reason…then you’re extremely naive.

You call those things turtles? Gamera just rolled over in his grave.

  • Josh Harriman

    August 11, 2014 at 1:00 pm

SPOILER ALERT: I’m pretty shocked they didn’t mention anything on the fact that in this movie the turtles were created in a lab AND April named all of them (including Splinter) and assigned their colors. That to me was one of the dumbest changes that I still can’t accept. Just a completely unnecessary. And honestly I think William Fichtner was originally suppose to be Shredder in the suit and they jsut did some last minute reshoots to throw in a Japanese shredder(which is how it should have been to begin with).

      August 11, 2014 at 7:52 pm

I agree. Why the fuck not stick with the original parody-based storyline? That was what TMNT was about, right? Parodying all the most popular pop culture and comic trends… Fucking stupid >:(

  • Weldin Dunn

    August 11, 2014 at 1:32 pm

Yeah, I pretty much agree. It wasn’t as good as the original by quite a bit, but what do you expect from Michael bay?

    • Joker83

      August 11, 2014 at 7:59 pm

I expect a bunch of people to go see it no matter what the quality, giving Michael Bay permission to make shitty movie after shitty movie. A sequel to this crapfest was already greenlit, Bay is laughing all the way to the bank.

    August 11, 2014 at 1:36 pm

I’ve heard that Krang, Beepop and Rocksteady are gonna’ be in the sequel.

  • August 11, 2014 at 1:53 pm

Thanks Mike and James. It’s nice to hear what some other fans have to say.

  • August 11, 2014 at 7:39 pm

I took my 4 year old son to see the movie not knowing it was PG-13. I was a little worried about the language used but I guess it received that rating due to the violence. I went into the movie thinking it would be straight garbage i.e Transformers 4, but left satisfied. It had its faults but it was enjoyable. By any chance did you two go see the movie on Sunday afternoon at the AMC in Springfield. If not then you guys have doppelgangers.

James, Mike please make a video about this.

    • Lukas Sprehn

      August 11, 2014 at 7:54 pm

I just heard about this. However, I feel like it would be more appropriate to make a big video, paying tribute to all the peple we grew up with and love who have died recently, because there are just so many of them. Williams should be a major subject in the video though, I think. He brougth smiles, laughs and light into the days that was dark and meaningless to me. He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace Robin Williams July 21, 1951 – August 11, 2014.

I think they made the turtles look different to distinguish them more, since let’s face it in the original cartoon there was only their headbands to go by. Objectively their new looks make sense, with Leo being all Samurai-like, Don having all the tech-gear, etc. With Bay’s CGI-o-rama they had to stand out more or they’d all just blend in.

  • Satnav

    August 11, 2014 at 9:11 pm

Anyway, I more or less agree with James. It could’ve been better, but it could’ve been much, much worse. They got things right I honestly thought they wouldn’t have. At the same time, there were things they could’ve done better. I will say Megan Fox was surprisingly okay.

I think the implosion scene in Turtles 3 was supposed to look like he goes under the water, it looks better than just make him disappear all at once. But you’re right, they should have just cut the scene right before.

  • Stefanoragnopazzo

    August 12, 2014 at 2:57 am

I’m not gonna see it guys, i don’t even understand how it’s possible to relate to a talking CG, maybe it’s me, but i’ve never been able to relate to talking CG.
Talking characters should always be real.

How come are we considering this a live-action movie? It’s really not live.

  • Crabjock

    August 12, 2014 at 4:03 am

I didn’t like it at all. They tried to make it mature, and that would have been great if the parts that weren’t would have been less goofy and dense. It’s like they tried to make a hybrid of the original comics and cartoon. It just didn’t sit right with me.

The backstory being changed was just pointless. The original was a parody of comic book culture, but they tried to make it serious in this movie. So it didn’t come off as intentionally silly. It just came off as silly.

If you want to watch a decent comic book adaptation, go watch Guardians of the Galaxy. The humor works, and it has the charm that this movie lacks.

  • Senna4ever

    August 12, 2014 at 7:58 am

The “implosion” effect in Turtles III is easy to explain.
It was meant to look like he submerged into the water.

Yes it was a bad effect, but that is what they were going for.

Did you guys ever see the Nickalodeon animated series? I thought it was quite a bit like the old cartoon, other than being 3D animated. I didn’t get to see the movie yet though.

  • August 12, 2014 at 12:24 pm

I really liked the animated TMNT movie. When it was in theaters I went and there were only 6 people in it. I think it´s underrated

  • August 12, 2014 at 12:40 pm

Dont forget james the guy somehow knew it was her too when she called from that pay phone!

  • August 12, 2014 at 10:03 pm

To be honest, I’ve been a fan of Turtles since their original series run and I liked the new one.

  • August 12, 2014 at 10:10 pm

if turtles were aliens in this I would hate it instantly.

  • August 13, 2014 at 4:12 am

im gonna see this on friday cant wait im a huge tmnt fan i have evry live action tmnt movie (yep including tmnt which SUUUUUUUUCKED lol) and i also have the 2007 tmnt film i love them all except turtles 3 lol 🙂

I thought the new Turtles flick was much better than I expected. I was shocked that I actually got use to the horrid faces within the first few minutes of their appearance on screen. I’m sure the months of anger from seeing them on the net helped as well. I also actually really enjoyed the individual “outfits” that each turtle had (though I see a lot of people so angry about those outfits leaning on the “so sterotypical” argument). A lot of people forget about and/or haven’t even seen the Turtles Forever movie, which is pretty awesome. I’d say this new Turtles is the 3rd best Turtles movie. 4th at the worst. Definitely better than Turtles 3 and TMNT 2007.

  • Calfaer

    August 14, 2014 at 12:41 am

I agree with a lot of what you guys had to say. I didn’t care for the turtle’s face, but I gotta say that I liked their overall design. Except Donny’s glasses. They looked silly.

  • fmdof

    August 14, 2014 at 10:48 am

Overall, I really enjoyed it. I too expected it to be garbage, but it was better than I expected. With that said, it was definitely far from perfect. The one thing that stood out the most was lack of character development from damn near everyone. Mike complained how this was “another” origin story, but it wasn’t much compared to all other incarnations. Like shredder? Who is he, what is he? Who are the foot? One staple of the turtles origin has always been shredder is the mortal enemy of splinter, yet there was zero connection between the two, or the turtles and the foot clan in general. Splinter finding a karate book in the sewer, and training himself, then training the turtles was lame. I however, liked the retelling of them being Aprils pets when she was a kid, and she saved them, so I guess the old story wouldn’t have worked with the new story. Yeah they were ugly, but it kinda grew on me. Lastly, there was too much Michael bay action. I guess that’s the nature of the beast with him, but 4 6 foot tall turtles, shouldn’t have the same large scale action as a ton of 100 foot tall transformers. Anyways, looking forward to a sequel.

    Robin Williams Tribute…?

  • The Shamster

    August 15, 2014 at 7:33 am

Trying to make something look TOO realistic doesn’t work.

Take Freddy Krueger, the original looked great, even though they didn’t intend to make his burn scars look realistic, it still came off as realistic!

However, the remake tried to make his burn scars look 100% realistic, and as a result, it looked fake.

The same goes for this film. Don’t try and make the characters appearance look too realistic.

There was another Pizza scene, it was when they were younger, and it’s a remake/tribute to the Leonardo cutting the pizza mid air scene, when the slice falls on Splinter. Also, come on guys, the “stupid song” at the end of the movie was done by the group “The Turtles”… that’s why it’s funny, it’s subtle and a bit of a pun.. Whatever.

    August 17, 2014 at 11:28 pm

I gotta see that first TMNT again, I still couldn’t believe how there was cursing in that movie when I was watching it as a kid 😛 And yes, I agree that the turtles look hideous. Not love able or even borderline likeable.

  • August 19, 2014 at 5:32 pm

i was kinda thrown for a loop by the song at the end till i remembered who the original group was that sang it. anyone notice baxter stockman in the credits? i didnt remember seeing him in the movie

    August 21, 2014 at 10:35 am

Matt and James, i would LOVE to hear your thoughts on the new TMNT series… i personally love it, they really do a great job of taking things from all the series so far (comics, movies and TV) and mashing it all together… if you haven’t watched it seriously give it a shot, they do a lot of stuff with characters that were created in the original cartoon so its got some great throwback moments

    • rydamusprime

      August 21, 2014 at 10:37 am

oh, also this series does a great job at making the turtles actually SEEM like they are real teenagers for once, which actually doesn’t seem to happen too much considering its 1/4 of their title description

I second the idea that Krang (or at the very least the Utrom race) should be in the sequel. Krang would automatically make the virus plan make a lot more sense. Like Krang was playing Shredder and there was no cure and the virus would make his invasion more devastating.

If nothing else the EXCELLENT IDW comics prove that Krang can work in a serious setting. God if this movie series has a Krang that’s even 1/20th as good as IDW Krang, that’s a win to me.

  • September 4, 2014 at 3:39 am

i likes this movie and i plan on watching it 2 more times

Saw it last night! Wasn’t expecting much going in, but I thought it kicked ass! I hope they do a sequel with more of the cartoon-based enemies and maybe Casey Jones. At first, the look of the Turtles bothered me, but I grew to like them by the and. Awesome action scenes, seamless CG, and the new take on the origin was very cool! Much better than Bay’s TF movies!

    October 13, 2014 at 11:50 am

Oh, and Shredder was so badass! These guys are way too critical, but of course, they are entitled to their opinion. I loved it! Can’t wait for a sequel for sure!

I have many issues with this movie, though I have to say.. I thought the look of the turtles was pretty good, as far as realism goes. Its just the times, man ^^ no one likes rubber suits anymore.. 😉

But anyway… my main beef with this movie are, among other things:

    * Raph is repeatedly overly glorified
    * Leo ends up in trouble wau too much (its fairly obvious to anyone that Michael Bay is a Raph-fanboy)
    * Fast CGI movements, as usual, are just blurry to the eye and not appealing to look at as you can’t really see what’s going on… same shit with the transformers movies..
    * The slide down the snowy slope … oh my god ….. I have never rolled my eyes as much while watching a movie as I did during that scene … Mike is right, it just goes ooooon for far too long. And Leo just gets nailed with the shockers all the time; I swear its like he is more in the way sometimes… and that hurts to say, as I am a die hard Leo-fanboy..

    * But my biggest complaint of all is that they didn’t give the Shredder ANY KIND OF PERSONALITY WHATSOEVER!! Instead, the role of main antagonist is composed of a corporate asshole William Fichtner who talks a LOT and just has the most predictable motives for playing mad scientist.
And not only was the Shredder a machine of silverware and no character-depth, his personal connection to the turtles and Splinter was nonexistent.

I’m gonna rewatch the original turtles movie now just to wash away this anti-climactic aftertaste..
