Great commentary! I have a question about the movie: Is James always present during production? If not, does less get done, or do things just alternate to more white collared tasks like editing the film when he makes an episode?
April 23, 2014 at 4:17 pm
James pretty much has to oversee everything. Yes.
He’s always doing something related to the movie. Even for VFX, which he doesn’t do himself, he needs to oversee it. Which means a lot of emails, phone calls etc. He explains that pretty thoroughly in this update http://cinemassacre.com/2014/03/21/avgn-movie-update-march-2014/
The only time James isn’t working on the movie is if he takes a couple days off to film an AVGN episode. Also, he takes half a day once a month to shoot James & Mike Mondays with me. Then I take all the footage and edit those videos so that we at least have something for the website once a week.

Greetings from Germany!^^
I didn’t write a commentary on this side before, but after I saw this video I just have to say thanks! Thanks for all the effort and time you and Mike put into all of youre posted videos! I really admire youre work and I enjoyed EVERY Nerd Episode, there are no bad one’s as you say, James 😉
Try to focus on your film, when that’s your big project! It is obvious that there is much pressure on you because of the community which waits for your videos, but in fact it’s YOU who must be satisfied and when you think you don’t have enough time for your videos, ”just” take it and post the videos at a later time if it is possible!
I really look forward to see your film and I hope that you can finish it soon and without problems 😉

Always great to watch!

Keep doing your thing man, can’t wait for the movie.

im dying to see a New AVGN episode the way the old ones were. The older ones had such a charm to them.
April 24, 2014 at 12:53 am
What does that even mean?
If you want to see an old episode, go watch an old episode.
That’s like expecting the 120th episode of a TV show to be like the 1st episode. Not going to happen.
April 23, 2014 at 7:20 pm
That was really interesting.
April 23, 2014 at 8:52 pm
I think what you overlook is that due to who you are and what you have accomplished people will always love you.
So there’s no pressure from us.
After all you’re also an artist. And art takes its time, it has to. You can’t force it, you can’t push it.
April 23, 2014 at 9:33 pm
Why is this being put out so late? From Sep 2012. Still very interesting as always!
April 24, 2014 at 12:54 am
Because it was on a previously released DVD.
April 24, 2014 at 12:35 am
I’m always happy to see commentary and behind the scenes. I know you make this stuff as exclusive content to reward people for buying the DVD, but I think its awesome when you post some of that content on the site.
I wish I wasn’t having such financial troubles…I’d totally buy the entire AVGN DVD collection just so I can watch commentary and behind the scenes on *every* episode, not just the freebies on the site. Sigh…
Anyways, keep up the good work. I can’t wait to see what game you do next, and I can’t wait to see the film when its finished!

You could wait for one of the sales on the store. The big collection pack might even go down to 30-40 dollars, which is still kind of a lot, but not for Indie stuff 😀 That’s how I got my collection.

after seeing this video I think we forget about the an unsung hero. Mrs.Nerd! A man can only be as strong as the women he keeps by his side. With James’ work pulling him this way and that, it’s nice to see his wife supporting his dream. hope your family is well James and thanks for all the laughs over the years.
April 24, 2014 at 5:49 pm
True! I am always aware of how busy James must be between family and everything else, it’s really amazing and inspiring how he can manage it all.
April 24, 2014 at 7:50 am
James, do you plan on doing a barrage of godzilla games in leu of the new godzilla movie release?
April 24, 2014 at 8:23 pm
Unrelated James, but did you know you are on this list at number 19?
April 25, 2014 at 4:53 am
Jesus Christ, you guys beat out The Twilight Zone by 16 places. I love your work, but that just aint right….
April 25, 2014 at 4:52 am
I loved the behind the scenes/Barbie episode because I love behind the scenes stuff for films/shows…. oh and Do you think there will be some behind the scenes stuff for the AVGN film when the DVD eventually comes out?

April 26, 2014 at 9:04 am

The subject of the AVGN movie is no longer just a legend! https://twitter.com/majornelson/status/460129185277968385

Amazing video. I think 2011-2012 was a great year overall for AVGN episodes, even with the frequent breaks to do the movie. The Rob episode was in fact the pinnacle of AVGN and a great 100th! I appreciate that you still made AVGN episodes through it all. I also love these behind the scenes episodes, even if they are quick content. One, it makes me appreciate how much expertise and effort goes into this whole thing. Two, it shows how down-to-earth and relatable you are, a guy with a passion for video games and making good art. I could imagine you being fun to be around, but I can definitely tell you have that neurotic stressed out artist side. One thing I did notice was a shift during some episodes where it seemed like you were “trying too hard” to play up the angry nerd rage, perhaps at the request of fans that thought you were going too soft. As you said, it’s hard to make all the humor flow naturally when you’re on a time constraint.
April 27, 2014 at 1:12 pm
This reminds me of Koyaanisqatsi (1982)
April 27, 2014 at 2:19 pm
can’t wait for the movie!
April 27, 2014 at 6:26 pm
James, bubby, I love ya man, but you gotta get with the times. Your explanation of ‘farming’ was pretty cringe worthy.
April 28, 2014 at 12:13 pm
Question regarding the movie, Now that they have found the landfill with the ET games…will that effect the movie at all?
April 29, 2014 at 5:00 pm
The E.T. Atari game has actually been digged out, not a rumor anymore! This is so awesome!
May 4, 2014 at 11:45 pm
James, great editing for this commentary video. Keep up the great work and hang in there w/ the final shootings and editing of your AVGN movie! I’ll definitely support you like I have the past 6 years by buying it!
