  • KennyM

    April 7, 2014 at 12:23 am

you know ive always wondered since the nerd and james are seperate people, what is the nerds name? James has always said the nerd is just a character, but is avgn’s name james rolfe too? just curious, maybe its a dumb question

    • April 7, 2014 at 1:40 am

I think the character is just “The Nerd” or “The Fucking Nerd”. Several of his guessed just call him that Nerd, and nothing else. So I think his name is just “The Angry Video Game Nerd” or just Nerd for short.

Reproductions of prototype games for the NES are not the same as homebrew. A homebrew game is completely written from scratch in assembly language, while a reproduction game is just a finished game burned onto a cartridge.

What’s your point… What they were saying is getting a copy of something that was never officially printed and released.

Hey James and Mike, long time watcher, first time poster here! Here’s a suggestion for James and Mike Mondays…Zombies Ate My Neighbors! I can see you guys making a hilarious vid for that game!

  • Weldin Dunn

    April 7, 2014 at 12:28 am

This is a weird console. I think if it was marketed than it would have had a bigger impact. I see it as an 80s cd-i. That is if it plays vhs tapes.

  • April 7, 2014 at 12:42 am

I love how you used Inverse Phase’s 8-Bit cover of Sanctified by Nine Inch Nails XD Good play!

    “Hey what’s this?”
    “My TV?”
    “Yeah, but what’s on it?”
“Oh that’s Xbox One. The latest and greatest, newest generation of video game hardware.”
“Oh…” (awkward pause) “Let’s go back to playing this 30 year old piece of shit!” ๐Ÿ˜€

  • April 7, 2014 at 1:35 am

I’m sure I played something like this. I can’t remember the name, but the idea was the same. It was all one story, and it was about freedom fighters against an army of machines. I remember it because of how the main bad guy would “digitize” people into machines. All in glorious 80s filming!

Anyways, it was an attempt to make a line of toys, using this system. Instead of a gun and machine, everything was done with the toy it’s self. I remember my friend having some cool looking plans that you pointed at the TV. At the end of the program you would see how many points you managed to help the good guys win.

Now it’s going to bug me till I remember the name …

    • April 7, 2014 at 1:44 am

      HA, finally!

Captain Power: and the Soldiers of the Future

For anyone who wants to see more of stuff like this!

      • April 7, 2014 at 11:41 pm

Oh looks like you already figured it out, stupid page breaks. Lol.

    • April 7, 2014 at 11:38 pm

I think you’re thinking of the toy line for Captain Power and the soldiers of the future. I actually still have the main ship and the training video that came with it. I always remember playing with the video but I could never figure out when the actual show was on, so I never actually got to play along with any of the episodes.

    April 7, 2014 at 1:46 am

two things… 1) you should spend an hour or two once you are done with the avgn movie and add some white flashing things for you to shoot for when you release it on VHS.

    2) I want to see a video where Mike explains the xbox one to james.

  • pleasetakeabow

Did they have you shoot a hostage at 11:33???

    April 7, 2014 at 2:05 am

yo Mike, Humans and Bigfoot can have a shared ancestor instead of coming from one another. Both Humans and Bigfoot could have evolved from another animal altogether.

but like, yeah who knows. it’s bigfoot. they did compete with people in Europe. check out Quest for Fire to see sweet Human vs Bigfoot action:

    pretty great episode!

  • TheMicronerd

    April 7, 2014 at 2:09 am

Hah! I never had the system, but my grandma bought the tapes for me at the Dyess Air Force BX back in like 1993 because they were going for like fifty cents apiece. I had the ghost one and the submarine one. Funny thing is they actually work with the Captain Power vehicles because they used the same types of flashing light.

    April 7, 2014 at 2:18 am

James looks horrified the XBox is watching him ^^

  • April 7, 2014 at 2:51 am

  • Thifurious

    April 7, 2014 at 3:02 am

It was neat to see the Xbox One in the background; that 4K TV looks gorgeous. Do you have a PS4 as well, Mike? ๐Ÿ™‚

It was also really interesting to hear both’ve your opinions on certain things you may or may not believe exist. I’ve always wondered what you guys thought of stuff like that – especially ghosts. There could be a pretty sweet ‘Top 10’ type vided where you guys rank the most believable, to the most unbelievable beings often found in horror movies.

Mike singing the Full House theme song also gave me another idea for a ‘Top 10’ video, such as “Top 10 sitcom theme songs from the 80s and 90s”.

  • April 7, 2014 at 3:10 am

Nice semi ad for the Xbone, you got me

  • April 7, 2014 at 3:46 am

You could probably get this to work on a flat screen TV but you’d need a plasma TV.

  • April 7, 2014 at 3:59 am

James face after he heard it’s Xbox 1 XDDD

  • April 7, 2014 at 4:57 am

Looks to me like Microsoft just paid some money for a mention in a nerd video… This video seemed like one big Xboxone commercial, sitting in front of that screen, “casually” mentioning it two times, this sucks man.

    • Bryan L'Etoile

      April 8, 2014 at 1:30 am

And Here I thought I was just crazy…does suck man…

      • Xotice

        April 9, 2014 at 1:03 am

The screen rotation on the xbox one changes throughout the video too. It does seem like they were paid to showcase it, even if it was just a mention with it in the background.

While yes it does suck to see what was pretty much an xbox one ad in a cinemassacre video, but i don’t really mind that much. I am still never buying an xbox one, not even for the future halo games. 343 has screwed up that franchise.

If it was an ad, they were more than likely paid, which you can’t blame them for taking. I’d take it. Especially if i worked as hard as James does on his videos and raising a kid, while making a movie.

    • April 12, 2014 at 2:41 am

Yeah, that’s exactly what happened. Give me a fucking break.

  • cyfrostan

    April 7, 2014 at 5:19 am

It’s not that people evolved from apes (the species of apes that exist today didn’t exist back then), that’s an inaccurate simplification. It’s more that today’s apes and men have the same biological ancestors, who then evolved into many different species, some of them survived and evolved into man and some evolved into primates and monkeys. We are more closely related to primates than monkeys of course, it’s kinda like the difference between having the same great granddad and having the same great great great great granddad with someone (that too is a very simplified analogy but it’s closer to the truth than saying man evolved from apes).

    • Lukas Sprehn

      April 7, 2014 at 7:11 am

None of them actually said that any of the apes that exist today are the same as the ones we evolved from. They didn’t actually say that there are any of the original apes left in our world. They might as well have meant that Bigfoot/the Yeti/the Sasquatch is another species that evolved from that original species.

  • April 7, 2014 at 5:26 am

Nice TV there in the back.

  • muire

    April 7, 2014 at 6:08 am

LOL are you guys trying to get money from microsoft by showing off the xbone?

  • April 7, 2014 at 6:13 am

Speaking of the Turbo-Grafx16, you should do an episode on a game like Military Madness or something.

  • FTNS

    April 7, 2014 at 7:04 am

LOL! Blatant Xbox One advertising. With all the controversy with Let’s Players on YouTube admitting to getting paid by MS to praise their products, MS had to look elsewhere.

  • Lukas Sprehn

    April 7, 2014 at 7:09 am

04:50 Did I just see a disembodied Michalangelo, or any of the other Turtles?!
8:54 “Written by Mitchell Barry”โ€ฆ how the hell do you write something like this?!

  • April 7, 2014 at 7:10 am

Brings back memories of Captain Power!

  • April 7, 2014 at 7:34 am

Did you guys get paid by Microsoft to have that XBox One Background? If this is the case, it feel very lame! Are you cash whores or what?

    • Syph

      April 7, 2014 at 10:21 am

They were showing that it’s not that great. Didn’t you get that in the end where James is like, “So, you wanna play the Xbox One?” and Mike goes, “Nah”.

They were passing up the shiny new toy to play with their old ones.

      • April 7, 2014 at 12:39 pm

        SYPH – exactly. Thanks

  • April 7, 2014 at 7:49 am

Can’t tell if Microsoft is paying James to advertise the Xbox One (which I love – I’m an Xbox fan, mostly) or if James is amazed by new gaming systems, that aren’t the SNES. Anyway, great video ๐Ÿ˜€

    • April 7, 2014 at 11:34 am

It was a joke. We were playing the ActionMax on an old TV, with our backs to a brand new TV with a brand new console (the Xbox One).

      • FTNS

        April 7, 2014 at 8:12 pm

Probably not the best idea for a joke with all the controversy surrounding MS and Let’s Players

      • April 17, 2014 at 5:08 pm

Oh sorry, I didn’t get it when I watched it. Shit, now I feel bad for sounding like an ass.

    • Dan021

      April 7, 2014 at 11:42 am

They are at Mike’s place. They are showing it just for the fun of owning a XboxOne (a new console) and choosing to play something so old like the Action Max. I find it hilarious also XD

  • April 7, 2014 at 7:49 am

You guys should find yourself an Amiga CD32 for James & Mike Mondays

  • ghoshtbushterz

    April 7, 2014 at 7:54 am

You guys totally have to make one of these vhs games. Heck, get hold of a second action max and have a 2 player game

  • April 7, 2014 at 8:27 am

Haha I absolutely love that xbox reference x) You might consider it a joke but I feel it’s a bit true, some of these old cheesy things can be much more interesting than whatever is on Xbone right now.

  • April 7, 2014 at 8:42 am

Am I hearing an 8-bit version of Nine Inch Nails’ “Sanctified” ??

    • DanceOf TheMidnightCandles

      April 7, 2014 at 9:16 am

I think it totally is…I am hearing it too.

  • April 7, 2014 at 8:45 am

James, you should do the videos on bigfoot and all the others you talked about after the AVGN movie is over.

Now James and Mike, I want to introduce to the Theory of Evolution, and just how true this theory really is. Enjoy. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • April 7, 2014 at 9:03 am

@1:10, when James says he showed it in an AVGN intro, then the Nintendo Zapper and Duck Hunt are shown. Knowing that Mike edits the J&M videos, I think he got that wrong. James actually showed Action Max in the intro to episode Day Dreaming Davey. I know this goes to show the new screen thing in general, but I think James was talking specifically about Action Max and how it was aknowledged in the AVGN series, but wasn’t worth a review.

  • April 7, 2014 at 9:06 am

I would really enjoy to see “Is it fucking real?”.

    April 7, 2014 at 9:16 am

James, I would TOTALLY watch ‘Is It Fuckin’ Real’ ๐Ÿ˜€ and hearing you guys talk about paranormal stuff it pretty neat. Do more of that! Kinda’ makes me want more Jersey Odysseys…

  • BladeRunner

    April 7, 2014 at 9:52 am

I think even Garfield hates Mondays less now because of James & Mike Mondays. Oh and great video like always.

  • April 7, 2014 at 10:36 am

    I love Mondays.

and this may be completely pathetic, but I think I could listen to you guys debate about the existence of ghosts, bigfoot, ufos, aliens, and the loch ness monster for hours on end. haha

Why don’t you guys play Killer Instinct on Xbone?

  • Tad Parsons

    April 7, 2014 at 11:52 am

Probably shouldn’t take on something like “is it real?” if you haven’t brushed up on your evolution lately

  • stewes

    April 7, 2014 at 12:08 pm

I’ll bet the reason the zapper doesn’t work on James’ TV doesn’t have to do with the TV itself (it looks like a standard CRT that just has a flat surface, not an actual LCD) is that the NES passes thru a DVD recorder before it reaches the TV. Recorders like those tend to slightly delay the timing by a few milliseconds. Try hooking it up directly to the TV, as light guns need precision “dead-on balls accurate” timing.

It’s only been a week but I missed you guys

  • April 7, 2014 at 12:23 pm

I really love u two guys, but that was one of the worst Product placement ive ever seen. I wouldnยดt really mind if you just had it running in the background like that and just said that the Xbox one i great. But try to hide the fact that this was Product placement just say it out loud, otherwise it just seems so unaturall ๐Ÿ˜‰ And again i love u guys and i donยดt mind if you do a Little advertisement, itยดs ok.

    Love from Sweden!

    • April 7, 2014 at 12:26 pm

A bit of clumsy Writing, this was what i should have wrote ๐Ÿ˜‰

*Dont try to hide the fact that this was Product placement, just say it out loud, otherwise it just seems so unaturall.

  • DON

    April 7, 2014 at 12:27 pm

Love the XBone in the background and how James is puzzled by it ๐Ÿ™‚
Was this filmed when the next gen consoles were still fresh?

  • The Kaleidoscopic God

    April 7, 2014 at 12:43 pm

We evolved from the same creature our monkey cousins did, yes. Not monkeys per se. As for UFOs, or more specifically aliens, you’re absolutely right, Mike. There are, as estimated, between 100 and 200 fucking BILLION galaxies (not solar systems, GALAXIES) in the universe. There is no chance in hell there isn’t another inhabited planet out there. Zero. In fact, it’s more likely that the number of inhabited planets is to us unfathomably large, and there might actually be a billion other species out there who have thought (or will think) about this very thing. Puts things into perspective… and almost freaks me out in the process.

  • April 7, 2014 at 12:44 pm

Is it me, or do I hear NIN’s “Sanctified” bass line in the background of that game?

  • April 7, 2014 at 1:14 pm

    Good video James and Mike

    • occamsmonkey

      April 7, 2014 at 2:18 pm

That’s exactly what I thought when his gamertag showed up.

  • April 7, 2014 at 2:00 pm

Action Max has less exclusives than Wii U but still more than XBO.
I’ll go by Brentalfloss words here: “don’t ever buy a console at launch, they’re gonna get you!”
Waited for my Wii U, now there’s a line-up to appreciate and some great exclusive worth waiting for, 3rd time playing The Wonderful 101 at the 3rd level of difficulty because every difficult level has hidden playable characters to use, it’s so great. I don’t talk about the other consoles because i don’t own them so it would be silly to speculate without having experienced them.
After the Wii Remote and games like Umbrella Chronicles, Darkside Chronicles and Overkill i don’t think i can go back to another way of playing Light Gun games outside Nintendo’s platforms. Outside of any Arcade i can’t find myself playing that ridiculous Time Crisis 4 on the PS3, it works so bad compared to Wii and Wii U. Even FPS and TPS, outside of a PC experience, it’s just better to aim, especially now with the Wii Motion Plus, on Nintendo consoles. It takes a little bit of practice but when you get how sensible it is, it get greatly rewarding. Every kind of limb shot is a blast.

  • Steven Jielberg

    April 7, 2014 at 2:03 pm

Good lord. That exchange between you two about the TV made me think you were setting up some joke or skit.
    “What’s this, by the way?”
    “Oh, my TV.”
    “Yeah, but, what’s this?”
    “Oh, it’s Xbox One.”
I kept waiting for a punchline or something, but you dropped it entirely, which I think actually made it funnier than saying a real joke, lol.

  • Hanglyman

    April 7, 2014 at 2:57 pm

Listening to you guys talk about ghosts and Bigfoot, it seemed like you really haven’t done much looking into the subject. I don’t know if you listen to podcasts, but if so, I’d recommend MonsterTalk, which talks about cryptozoological and paranormal subjects from a scientific perspective.

  • April 7, 2014 at 3:25 pm

Ive heard of this mad scientists contraption.
I found it hilarious at the end when neither of you cared to play the xbox one.
Heres an idea, and although this may be stepping out of your comfort zone, it would be cool to hear your take on the 8th gen consoles.

  • Brett Solorio

    April 7, 2014 at 3:51 pm

Play the new Killer Instinct, now that would be hype!!!

  • April 7, 2014 at 4:29 pm

Both theme songs were sung by Jesse Frederick, they all sound alike to me as well.. but I don’t like Full House. I LOVED watching Twilight Zone as a kid, and still do. You two keep on being awesome, love ya guys.

But itยดs a nice curiosity! ^^

    April 7, 2014 at 6:36 pm

Uhhh…I really doubt that you were supposed to be shooting the innocent people. Did anyone even check to see if the score was actually going down after shooting the woman in the stomach?

  • April 7, 2014 at 6:37 pm

I’m 30 years old. When I was in school, kids would constantly refer to their game cartridges as “tapes,” and that would always infuriate me. They would also swear that if you played Mortal Kombat II for long enough you’d get to see naked fatalities, and this one time they played Sonic in juuuuust the right way that Tails’ head exploded. Kids are dumb.

Anyhow, it’s neat to see a game system where the “tape” misnomer is actually correct.

  • mike keith

    April 7, 2014 at 6:57 pm

OMG, Does anybody else here a NIN Pretty Hate Machine song on the first game, LOL, did Trent take a music from this machine, or did He make music for the machine????

    • mike keith

      April 7, 2014 at 7:16 pm

Nevermind, I just found this on Youtube, and the music is different and lame, with cheesy sound effects. The music must be something that James was playing so as not to be so distracting to anybody viewing his episode, the sound effects are crazy and would overpower them talking.

      • April 7, 2014 at 9:24 pm

Aw, i just caught that.. it was Sanctified.. talk about your lawsuit though if it really was in the game haha

  • pokemario99

    April 7, 2014 at 7:45 pm

James: “You sure you don’t want to play Xbox One?”
    Mike: “No”

Wow! Always a surprise to see whats next in line for review but never did I expect to see action max. I use to have this shit back in ’89, my uncle bought it cause of the vcr concept. Honestly it was neat to play, we had the sonic fury, blue thunder, ambush alley and rescue pops ghostly. I always thought blue thunder was the jet game and vice versa but its the copper game. I couldnt remember the name of this system thing til now, thanks for reviewing a small piece of my childhood that I remember but also forgot. I do remember my dad selling it for $10 in our yard sale.

Once I realized that the entire screen of the Flat Screen behind James and Mike was visible, despite not having any relevance to the game system that the video is about, with it displaying various games for the Xbox One, with the image on the screen changing every couple of minutes to display different games, and the awkward acknowledgment of the Xbox one later on in the video…I mean am I just crazy or does this seem like an ad?

    • April 12, 2014 at 2:34 am

It was obviously a Knock at the System…

Maybe you should watch the end again, they basically scoff at it and shrug it off as nothing.

Humans (homo sap saps) and modern apes share a common ancestor. It is a common misconception that humans evolved from apes. So, during the evolutionary process there was a primate that was neither ape nor human evolution caused a split and from this common ancestor came the genetic line for apes and the genetic line for humans. The apes then continued to evolve (thats why there are chimps, gorillas, orangoutangs, etc.), and so did the humans (Homo Erectus, Homo Habilis, etc.). I am not trying to be a dick at all, but it sounded like you were interested so I thought I would share. PS I explain this better in my power point. Message me and I can send it to you ๐Ÿ™‚

Interesting episode. I will say that I used to be the biggest skeptic when it came to ghosts. My sister has always firmly believed in them, but I was always skeptical. Now, I’m neutral. There isn’t sufficient proof that ghosts really exist, since the word of people who claim to have seen them is all there is, but in retrospect, there isn’t sufficient proof that they don’t exist. So, I’m neutral. Big foot isn’t that far fetched. He’s just a large animal. I do believe in aliens, mostly because I don’t believe earth is the only habitable planet in all of the universe. Apparently the odds of such a planet existing are astronomical, but if the universe is infinite, others have to be out there. However, odds are, if there is sentient life elsewhere, it’s no where near us, so I don’t believe in UFOs. I’m skeptical that your light gun shots really blew anything up, since the system is just a sensor, and the game is video footage. See what I did there?;)

Does it bother anyone else that at 11:33 the target is painted on the chest of what appears to be a hostage?

I mean… He’s just sitting there, scared shitless, being held at gunpoint by this creepy guy behind him?

The guy has a gun held to his HEAD. And you’re supposed to SHOOT him for it? And you’re supposedly a cop?

James! Mike! Why didn’t you NOTICE this? I think you should’ve! You used to pick up stuff like this ALL the time! ๐Ÿ™‚

That music is an 8-bit version of Sanctified from Nine Inch Nails.

  • April 8, 2014 at 12:19 pm

Oh, man! I’ve actually played this before! A friend of mine from a few years back owned it & we played the ghost one & the jet one. Seeing this made my day.

Side note: I 100% believe in not only ghosts, but that we’ve been visited by extraterrestrials, as well. There’s weird evidence of both all over the planet.

    Great video, you guys!

That was fairly innovative ๐Ÿ˜› My favorite part was when James pointed to the big screen tv and asked ”what is that” while Mike was playing, and Mike calmly responds by saying ”oh xbox one”. Lol, I had no idea what it was either…

Love the vid guys but please someone respond. When James and Mike start playing the first game does anyone hear Sanctified by Nine Inch Nails? It starts at about 2:10 ends at about 5 mins in. Its funny if you listen to NIN.

  • April 9, 2014 at 1:42 am

I remember my parents renting an Action Max with .38 Ambush Alley, but only barely (I was like four or five when they did). It wasn’t until that said AVGN intro that I remembered it.

I also recall Mattel Toys doing something like Action Max with their Captain Power toys. The only difference is that each toy was it’s only self contained unit, and they can also be used as laser tag style units against each other.

  • April 9, 2014 at 2:13 am

Any particular reason Nine Inch Nails’ “Justified” is playing in the background?

Love these James & Mike Mondays.

I know you tend to stick with older games/systems. But you got to do one of these for Goat Simulator. Yeah many others have done vids on this game, but I still think it needs the James & Mike touch.

Such a stupid and badly deigned game, I’m sure you’d have fun with it.

I have a sorta ghost story.. my lil bro dated a girl who claimed to see ghost. When they first met at a party she said she saw a little girl following him, He was like ok your crazy. When he introduced her to the my family, she told us the same.. we all said shes crazy. Month later I heard a child giggle near my pc at 5am, that night my dad heard the same, then a couple weeks after that a friend came over with her 2 yr old daughter and she was acting weird, being shy and giving dirty looks to me. I asked my freind if her daughter was ok, she said yea just shy. They left but returned 5 mins later, and she said I know why my daughter was acting wierd, I asked why and she said her daughter said I wouldn’t let the little girl next to me play with her. I was sold. So ghost are a real, time travel is impossible and the only aliens in existence don’t fly spaceships. the end

“is ir fucking real”, well, there is a show called “is it real?” and it touched those subjects. it also was terrible to the point of being funny. they would contradict themselves all the time and narrator flat out said different things than shown on camera. it was clear the show shouls ahve been titled “we tell you its not real so believe us because we say so”

Well that definitely is interesting. I’m still not sure how it even works. I think it’s hilarious that you have to actually put a suction cup on your TV, though.

  • April 10, 2014 at 6:10 pm

I actually had this as a kid – my mom ordered it off of like CVN or QVC back in the day. I played with that light gun more than I played the actual game and after a few games with each game (I had Pops Ghostly and that Sub game and I think one other off hand) but yeah it was sorta cool-ish at the time, but boring when really all you were doing was going for a high score and no one really there weren’t that many tapes for it either. Used to remember getting upset after going to Babbages or KMart and asking if they had any ActionMax game tapes and getting raised eyebrows LOL – thanks for the blast from the past guys!

  • April 10, 2014 at 10:05 pm

I found some similar video tapes part of a VHS game labeled “Captain Power” at the Goodwill a while back but they didn’t have any of the peripherals with them. I think I have one other from a different series too somewhere… ’cause I didn’t really understand what I found then I watched it and was going “What the hell are these flashing light bits in some of these scenes?” I planned on watching them with some friends for some riffing and laughs but never got around to it. Some day.

  • April 11, 2014 at 9:01 pm

According to the ActionMax wiki any footage can be used as long as it’s properly formatted, meaning it just has to have a blinking dot in the bottom right corner and one blinking in sync on top of the “target”. AVGN actionmax game?

  • April 12, 2014 at 3:28 am

Holy shit. The music at 2:35 is a Nine Inch Nails song from Pretty Hate Machine….

I got the Action MAX with 5 games back in 2002 at a yard sale for $6. I ran the videos though what I used then Windows XP and put all 5 on one DVD-R. I put the VHS tapes in satf area and just played with the DVD-R version. However since I now have LCD and Blu-ray I have to parten as if it worked with LCDs.

  • April 20, 2014 at 4:47 am

    “What is that anyway?”
“oh that? thats the xbox one”
“ohh…” *silence and plain face afterwards*

    I’m still laughing

  • April 20, 2014 at 4:37 pm

Saying “I would need to see it to believe it.” is what people who have never experienced anything that could come close to a sighting with the undead in their life.

I have seen “something” once but I can’t tell you that it was a ghost because in the end of this event I had no more knowledge about this sort of thing then before it hit me.

It happened about 12 years ago, I had just moved in with my girlfriend into our new apartment. I woke up and went in the locker to get the cat food like I do every morning and, after I had opened the light, in the corner of the locker where the light didn’t reach there was what seemed to be a little girl in a red dress with a unnatural shadow covering her whole (It made her face look darker then the darkness she was in). I scared jumped like never before in my entire life… it was like I got pushed by something supernatural and fell in my butt knocked my head on the main door to the apartment that was behind me and looked in shocked to see what the hell was that… and it was gone. It happened in a quarter of a second so yeah I could have hallucinated it but I never hallucinate anything ever… no matter how tired, drunk (I’m not a heavy drinker) or drugged (I only smoke pot when people offer me some) I am or whatever.

I still can’t find an explication to what happened that day.

  • April 30, 2014 at 9:21 am

Holy hell, the music during Pops Ghostly is a shitty midi rendition of Nine Inch Nails’ “Sanctified” from Pretty Hate Machine. Is that part of the tape, or was it added to the video later?

At least this piece of shit held the title for best graphics for a LONG time.

  • August 30, 2014 at 11:27 am

Only certain games allowed you to cheat with the Light Gun by aiming at a light source like a lamp or ceiling light. It’s possible that this was possible with early copies of Duck Hunt too.

The reason it doesn’t work in the games you’ve tries is because they feature an anti-cheat mechanic where the game checks for light, no light, then light again and if there isn’t that darkness in-between then it will register your shot as a miss (Process happens too fast to fool it, too).

Also the NES Zapper was calibrated for a curved CRT display where as some light guns are calibrated for a flat screen CRT and I am unsure how light guns that are compatible with LCD displays, work.

    • August 30, 2014 at 11:28 am

That’s a simplified summary of wtf is going on with the light gun.

      • August 30, 2014 at 11:31 am

It gets interesting when playing Duck Hunt with 2 ducks or 2 clay pigeons are visible at the same time, in this case the game will light up each target in sequence (Not simultaneously) to determine which one you hit.

      • August 30, 2014 at 11:34 am

For more detailed information about how the NES Zapper, and other light guns of that era, worked, than check this out:
