Really looking forward to this James!

    • March 21, 2014 at 7:43 pm

james never confirmed if the film is in 1080 HD. he says in the video that he is busy downloading but 480p is very small and fast to download. is he downloading 1080 resolution videos? was it recorded in 1080?

      • March 22, 2014 at 1:56 am

Dude, of course the movie os going to be full HD, if he’s doing Nerd videos in 1080p why on Earth would he shoot a two hour movie in SD?

      • diegowar

        March 22, 2014 at 7:34 pm

You can see it at 6:12 in the video. It’s 1920×1080 and a mere 40 seconds of raw footage take 1GB.

      • matthew Chin-Quee

        March 22, 2014 at 11:28 pm

HI. When you edit a film, especially in final cut pro 7, it’s necessary to downconvert (transcode) the footage to 1080p or smaller before beginning to edit. I assume that this film was shot using a 4k camera, and it’s impractical to edit native 4k because it would be too processor intensive. So while importing the footage into FCP, it makes you convert the footage to manageable files that you use while editing, and then when you get to the final output, depending on how you intend to present the film, you can reconnect it to the original 4k footage. What is being shown in this video are just the proxy files he’s working with, and not the actual resolution of the film as it was shot. I hope this helps.

      • Matthew Gorman

        March 23, 2014 at 8:17 pm

The movie was filmed on the Panasonic AG-Af100 camera and shot in 1080p 24fps at 2:35.1 aspect ratio

      • Lukas Sprehn

        March 24, 2014 at 7:12 am

Yes, he has said that it was shot in 1080p dude haha. He shot it on the 1080p AF-100 camera, in 1080p. And even if he didn’t say it was 1080p directly, he did say it was shot in HD, and that it will probably come out in 1080p in some form as well as SD quality on DVD. I also know for a fact that it was shot in 1080p because I worked on the movie, in the visual effects department πŸ™‚

      • Lukas Sprehn

        March 24, 2014 at 7:15 am

@matthew Chin-Quee It was actually not shot in 4k Matthew. It was shot in 1080p with the Panasonic AF-100, which can only go to 1080p. I’ve heard that one person who worked on the film offered his 4k RED camera to be used for the film, but they wanted to go with the AF-100s instead of burrowing his camera. So, it was shot in 1080p, and is being edited in 1080p as well. In the end it is the quality of the story, characters, and who handles the visuals that matter, not what is used to achieve the visuals. And the AF-100 is actually not half bad! πŸ™‚ It is a great camcorder in the right hands.

so sorry for the water damage. i hope you get that fixed and the games dry soon πŸ™‚

    • March 21, 2014 at 7:16 pm

valuables should always be stored on the highest floor and preferably with fire-retardant walls (new drywall technology). i know you can’t escape stuff like hurricanes or earthquakes but fires and ceiling damage is common…

        March 21, 2014 at 10:51 pm

The trailer was in 1080p so I assume so.

thanks i really want to do this to

  • Mikey Stone

    March 21, 2014 at 7:42 am

Yay!! I cant wait for the movie. Ill be at the theater by Philly. I believe you said that a theater kinda by Philly will have the movie. I live near Wilkes-Barre PA. Its basically NE PA. It takes about 2 hours to get to Philly from here. Im a HUGE Flyers fan so I tend to drive down there quite often. But James, you can bet your ASS I’ll see it the day its released.

    March 21, 2014 at 7:56 am

Your “Big Rigs” commercial was really funny. I take that as a good sign that the movie will be funny. I think the title “The Angry Video game nerd” sounds better than “The Angry Video game nerd: The movie” but it is a pretty minor thing. Has there been a final decision on the title?

  • bigbooster126

    March 21, 2014 at 8:10 am

    i can’t wait!

  • March 21, 2014 at 9:02 am

    March 21, 2014 at 9:06 am

Thanks James, keep up the awesome work!

  • March 21, 2014 at 9:15 am

I would like to see the AVGN movie when it is out. How is James planning on distributing it? Will it be on DVD or digital download? I don’t mind buying it on DVD.

      May 7, 2014 at 8:15 pm

He said in the Q&A during the AVGN movie trailer premiere that he plans on sellin it on DVD and blu-ray. He also plans on uploading it on this website. I’m guessing he’s gonna sell the movie on DVD and Blu-ray for a while and after that maybe stream it for free on this website. It’d be mad dope if he did a commentary like he did for Night of the living dead on monster madness.

  • March 21, 2014 at 9:40 am

Glad things are working out. Just don’t work yourself ragged. I may have sent 2 emails about helping in sound design, sorry about that. Differently formulated. The last one contains a demo reel.

Goddamn man… you really are busting your ass on this movie and don’t think that we as your loyal fans don’t appreciate this. You are doing a kick ass job! Thank you so much for all the past years entertainment. Very much looking forward to the movie!

    March 21, 2014 at 12:28 pm

For some reason I thought editing a feature film would be as simple as editing a web video. Well, I’m wrong there. It’s a lot of work. I’m happy you are able to get the movie done for all of us. I can’t wait to see all the work you’re doing now. It’s going to blow my mind! God bless you James!

  • Ace

    March 21, 2014 at 1:09 pm

Appreciate the hell out of your devotion to the movie and the normal cinemassacre projects, but take a nap if you need it man, we can wait.

  • muire

    March 21, 2014 at 1:13 pm

Geez James, you’re amazing! That’s annoying about the games, but they can always be replaced. It blows my mind how hard-working you guys are, making so much progress on the movie and posting new content on the site every day!
    Take it easy superman.

  • March 21, 2014 at 1:35 pm

James, if you want to put subtitles onto the DVD, I can translate them for free. [email protected]

    • March 21, 2014 at 1:35 pm

sorry, i meant to say: in chinese!

      • Lukas Sprehn

        March 21, 2014 at 1:55 pm

And I can do Danish ones πŸ™‚ I already did the English and Danish ones for the trailer πŸ™‚ And the Danish ones for episode 1. It was fun, and I would really love to do some more subtitling work for Cinemassacre productions.

      • nammm3

        March 21, 2014 at 3:38 pm

Just in case if they don’t see this (you and Lukas), make sure to email him at [email protected] if you haven’t already. Good luck w/ the movie you guys!

      • Lukas Sprehn

        March 24, 2014 at 7:35 am

@nammm3 I know about the email address, but I think I will try and wait until James actually announces that he needs help with subtitling.

  • fackya

    March 21, 2014 at 1:44 pm

Wow. I never knew there was so much post production work to do. For your water problems, the same happened to me last year. Turned out to be a blockage in the gutter. Water was penetrating through the exterior siding and into the walls and ceiling. Just had to get on the roof and clean the gutter.

  • croagunklover

    March 21, 2014 at 2:09 pm

Good luck with everything! It sounds like you have a lot on your plate.

  • March 21, 2014 at 3:05 pm

For downloading, have you considered a sync program like Dropbox? Your artists could put their work in a specified dropbox, and it would automatically start downloading to your computer. The download would still take time of course, but you’d save time because you wouldn’t have to manually initiate each one.

  • An Heroic Hippo

    March 21, 2014 at 3:06 pm

Dude this sounds like an absurd amount of work. Even though it’s soon the ten year anniversary, don’t kill yourself with this project. We’re all still gonna be fans when it’s done. Take your time, don’t over work, and release it when it’s ready. Good luck James!

  • bretso25

    March 21, 2014 at 3:29 pm

    haha holy shit. 10 years.

  • HunterXero

    March 21, 2014 at 3:38 pm

I’m still honored to have been able to be in the movie! It was a super fun 2 days of shooting!

  • nammm3

    March 21, 2014 at 3:42 pm

That’s a ton of work, I’m glad you have a lot of help and ideas coming from different people though when you’re working on the VFX and the script (instead of writing the script more elaborately for each and every scene). Good luck with everything James, I would love to help out w/ ediing with the sound but I have no idea how to do it. Hang in there w/ all of the hard work!

  • March 21, 2014 at 5:09 pm

I don’t know if you get the time to read these, but I really enjoy everything you produce. You take all the time you need. I will be purchasing 5-10 copies of this to distribute to my friends. You’re an incredible man and visionary. Don’t forget to take some time to yourself one day a month or better and just relax all day. We appreciate you doing James and Mike Mondays and making time to put out a new AVGN clip. (what a great one by the way) Keep doing what you do. I have no A/V skills really, but if there is anything an average joe could possibly help you with please contact me. It would be an honor to provide any service I can. Keep being awesome fucker! We <3 you!

  • March 21, 2014 at 5:13 pm

I just got my signed poster too fucking cool thanks man! This was really interesting. Thanks for sharing can’t wait to see this film.

  • Dan021

    March 21, 2014 at 5:18 pm

James are you worried about a movie leak at some point? Alot of Indie movies end up being put for free everywhere on the net and it really hurt the revenue of the movie. I would appreciate having a piece of your mind on the subject! Keep working hard, you’re the nest man! πŸ˜€

  • SteveVR6

    March 21, 2014 at 5:43 pm

We don’t care how you make the movie. Just bring it out already. We all have been waiting wayyyy to long

    • Lukas Sprehn

      March 24, 2014 at 7:33 am

We have been waiting approximately the same length of years it takes to make most films in Hollywood dude πŸ™‚ We’ve been waiting about 2-3 years minus the years 2009-2010 in which James only said that he had the project in mind. But real preproduction only began around 2011 or 2012, I believe. And the actual production began in 2012. 2-3 years are the standard these days. Indie films can take even longer. Wasn’t the Plan 9 from Outer Space remake started way back in 2009 or something like that? The reason it feels so long is that the internet is a place where we are used to getting things much faster, so we are naturally more impatient on here than we would be in real life, at least without as much internet use. Why do you think so many big producers shy away from the internet everytime they get a chance to do so while they are marketing their films, teasing them etc.? They try to use the theaters and your TV to gain your interest more often because they know how impatient we can be here, where we are used to most things downloading and loading and uploading at an instant. But don’t worry, the film will be done πŸ™‚

  • March 21, 2014 at 5:43 pm

I’m an indie game designer. and I can say this looks like just as much work as a game does. I cannot wait to see this movie. I may even shoot a e-mail to try to help with sound.

  • JJRambo

    March 21, 2014 at 5:47 pm

Can’t wait!!! so glad i’ll be in the credits … don’t forget the credits for the gogo pledgers!! hahaha

  • March 21, 2014 at 5:48 pm

Keep up the good work! Can’t wait to see the movie when it’s done

  • JD Fox

    March 21, 2014 at 6:09 pm

Copper pipes decay every 20 years, so the leaks probably are related to that.

  • March 21, 2014 at 6:14 pm

    I want a blu-ray of it!

    March 21, 2014 at 6:52 pm

Do you want him to work himself to death? He’s already working his ass off as it is. Let him spend some time with his family. And if he wants to mention his daughter in passing before talking long and hard about the movie, let him.

  • Eric Zabek

    March 21, 2014 at 7:33 pm

Should be epic. All your hard work will pay off soon!

  • Yanick Brissette

    March 21, 2014 at 7:42 pm

It’s incredible how you manage to squeeze AVGN videos about once a month while doing all this work for your movie. They don’t feel rushed either.
You can count on me to get that movie as soon as it comes out.

  • Omochao

    March 21, 2014 at 8:41 pm

To be honest, my biggest fear is that it will be rated R… it probobly will Q.Q

    • Lukas Sprehn

      March 24, 2014 at 7:26 am

James has said that he expects it to have a R-rating for the bad language. Sorry…

  • Matt T

    March 21, 2014 at 9:07 pm

I have a question. Which theaters (in PA) will this movie be in. I really don’t want to miss out on it!

  • March 21, 2014 at 9:07 pm

Can’t wait for this to come out…its gonna be bigger than Titanic…Suck it James Cameron!! JAMES ROLFE is here!

  • moleman124

    March 21, 2014 at 9:09 pm

Wouldn’t it be amazing if James got in contact with Kevin Smith to help distribute his film via Kev’s SModcast Pictures distribution company? (Who btw offer to distributed 12 movies a year, US and Canada)

    • Lukas Sprehn

      March 24, 2014 at 7:18 am

@moleman124 You know what’s really funny? I already wrote an email to them about this, I think. And linked Kevin’s videos about SModcast Pictures. I’d really love to see them distribute James’ movie. And it would be amazing if Kevin and James actually met, and even cooler if they decided to collaborate. How awesome would it be to have a feud between Jay’s fans and the AVGN fans over who swears the most? πŸ˜›

  • March 21, 2014 at 9:14 pm

Thanks for the update. Given the progress and shots left to take, I’m willing to bet that the finished film will be completed by the end of September/beginning of October this year. (Just a guess)

    • Lukas Sprehn

      March 24, 2014 at 7:21 am

The visuals may be, but then we have the sound design, editing, mixing, and the music as well, which also require some preparation, or design if you will, as well as editing and mixing, and that can often end up being a hell of a long process. Especially since audio is pretty much the most important thing to worry about after you get a camera. Good visuals are good on their own, but not if you want to have a film with dialogue. Films with good audio and shit visuals are often excused, while films with good visuals and shit audio is unbearable to most people. But don’t worry, James and co. will nail it! They have fucking Bear McCreary you know! πŸ˜€

  • Critic From The Future

    March 21, 2014 at 9:57 pm

Considering how much work you put in to this, on TOP of the occasional AVGN episode, I’m really hoping that this movie is a success. Funny that this came out the day after my brother said that you had given up on the movie (although I knew that would never happen.)

    • Lukas Sprehn

      March 24, 2014 at 7:25 am

Sounds like a standard case of “people on the internet are way more impatient because they are used to having everything brought to them, loaded and downloaded, in an instant” syndrome πŸ˜› Don’t worry, James never gives up on stuff like this. Everyone should know this by now. Look at how well organized he always seems, look at how many videos he’s cranked out that basically burned him out completely everytime. Such as Monster Madness, a two-parter AVGN episode, the Alien 3 AVGN episode etc. I think he pretty much devotes almost 100% of his energy to what he does. Well, then he does work on the videos I mean. You wouldn’t want to leave your work and go to your family, only to start worrying about whether or not you will be able to complete the next scene in your new film. Sorry, I got way sidetracked there. Bottom line is, James will not just give up without any really good reason πŸ™‚

  • March 21, 2014 at 11:00 pm

I seriously can’t wait to watch it James! AVGN The Movie gonna be EPIC! β™₯ I’m sooooo exciteddd!! >_< β™₯ I'm too excited cause of James in it. :3 Must watch!~ β™₯

thanks for update and explaining more about the movie making process.. glad to hear the movie is coming along…and also glad to hear your daughter is doing well.. keep up the great work James

  • March 22, 2014 at 4:31 am

James mentioned that he has to convert new and different video formats so that raises a question if the quality suffers from the conversion?

  • Haseo

    March 22, 2014 at 5:59 am

Keep up the good work James, it’s the best mind set to have it’s done when it’s done.

  • March 22, 2014 at 6:54 am

F*ckin’ AVGN… He f*cks us up with his f*ckin’ sh*tty video with his sh*tty images and stuff, yet he manages to keep us on the verge of our seats with the illusion of a a f*ckin’ update of his f*ckin’ movie, yet all he offers us is a mindnumblingly incoherent rant about how he makes the movie and stuff (I’ve gotta say, I didn’t understand half of what he said, yet again, I think that was his purpose all along) and he still manages to keep it interesting and to make us all want to hear some more about his f*uckin’ movie… You sir are a f*ckin’ genius… Please don’t stop making such irrational videos…

    • Lukas Sprehn

      March 24, 2014 at 7:39 am

Well, I am glad you are as entertained as I am, however I certainly got more out of it than you did it seems πŸ™‚ Maybe it is because I am an organized person like James. Well, a little bit. And because I understand the filmmaking progress and really want to make films myself. Or at least write them. I am sure that many people would find this video very educational πŸ™‚

  • March 22, 2014 at 10:31 am

I’ve never seen the Nerd so tired before. Wow…

  • Nick Nielson

    March 22, 2014 at 10:57 am

If you haven’t seen this already you need to check out and review Bishop of Battle starring Emilio Estivez. It is one part of a four part chapter movie called Nightmares (1983). Kinda like Four Rooms. This will blow your 80s nostalgic balls off. It’s a punker arcade hustler who is addicted to getting to the 13th level of the game titled Bishop of Battle. No spoiler here just check it out. Rock on

  • March 22, 2014 at 12:05 pm

Wow, you have a 1 year old learning to walk, the house is leaking, stress @ work, who would have thought that the Nerd would turn out such a normal young father πŸ˜€

Sadly the trip to the US is a little far otherwise I would like to come round and fix your pipes or roof since I wouldn’t be of much help with movie-stuff. πŸ™‚

Go the distance and always remember there are guys around the world keeping their fingers crossed for you.

He said in the AVGN: Inside Look video that the movie will be shown at a live theater ( I don’t know where though) and then will be released on DVD/ Blu-Ray and a digital download perhaps.

James you are the best man. I can’t wait for the movie. I think what your doing is a great thing man. No one cares more for their fans like you man. And all the work your putting into this is MUCH appreciated. We are all supporting you on this. Sounds like a lot of hard/time consuming work. I am so glad you have taken your “career” this far. And I hope you truly are enjoying it as much as we are. Like I said I can’t wait. And want to just say thanks man. Thanks for all that you do. You truly are a special person and someone who I look up too a lot and have a DEEP respect for. No one could fill your shoes and even if they could I WOULDN’T WANT them too. lol…Thank you so much James. I’ll always be a fan. And anyone who says anything negative about you or your work ethic is just a douche. All your real fans love what you do and have your back. THANK GOD my friend steven said hey man you gotta see this avgn guy all those years ago. Wouldn’t trade the laughs for anything James. One of your biggest fans. Tyler…p.s. sorry about your water leak. I felt bad when you said half the genesis cases were ruined. Bad stuff does seem to happen to good people…that’s life I guess…But yeah….sorry about the leak.

You’re probably just trolling, but still, this comment was completely unnecessary. Why do you have to be such a dick? Also, you’re not James, nor is you his wife, so how would you know he’s not working his ass off with this film already?!

james, the codec stuff is really bad for the end quality. Tell them vfx guys to send you non encoded video. If you re-encode your takes, this will reduce their original quality!

James/Mike/Kevin/Kyle. I could easily write an essay on the work you guys do. But I won’t. You’re busy as hell. Thank you so much for your contributions to the world, and the e-entertainment industry. I patiently await your next project.

If you have multiple leaks, you may need to repipe your house. It may actually cost less than repairing leaks as they come. I have copper plumbing and I am due to swap it out for some PVC.

You know I really respect that you’re doing what you’re truly ambitious about, and that you’ve progressed throughout your life with the AVGN episodes, game reviews, and now filming this movie! You have really inspired me and made me realize that with grit and courage, you can experience the things that you truly love. As a musician, it’s my passion to share my own compositions to the public, and all your episodes and blogs make me realize that the fact that you’re already doing what you love shows that you ARE living the life that you want. You truly inspired me to live my purpose in life, and you have my unconditional love and support on your work. Love the character and the humour in your vids, can’t wait for the film to come out!

Hey James, I was just wondering what you are going to do for the DVD/Blu Ray Menu. I mean if you release it on DVD and Blu Ray, it’ll have to have a menu, so that’ll take a bit more work, if you just want to have a normal menu with just pictures and the Play button, special features, Languages and Scene selection, that won’t take long, but knowing you James, you might actually make the Menu Awesome with that Giant Robot thing on the menu and You flying the plane and The Van Driving, and you can have scenes from the movie in a little box, and when you press play, The Robot Shoots a laser and the movie starts, and for Scene Selections, You fly by in the plane and it goes to the Scene Select. And for Languages, the van could drive by and lead you into it. And for Special Features, Well I guess that could be on a seperate disc, but the choice is all yours James! After all it is your movie and I hope that I can get the DVD for Christmas because I’ve seen all the AVGN episodes on YouTube except for the Star Trek one that one wasn’t on your channel. But you should do commentary for the movie while the movie plays and You, Mike Matei, and Kyle Justin can talk about the movie, and it can selected through Languages!
