ps2 system, the console with the largest library and longest running cycle in gaming history.

      January 20, 2014 at 2:50 pm

Well if you only count the US then yes. But if your counting any region the Famicon sold from July 15th 1983 to September 2003.

    • January 20, 2014 at 3:11 pm

Not yet. Neo Geo came out on January 1990 and the last game was Samurai Shodown V Special that came out on April 2004.

PS2 las game was FIFA 14 on November 2013.

But i guess 2014 will see FIFA 15 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2015 so … just wait.

    • January 20, 2014 at 9:15 pm

      SNES is better.

    • January 21, 2014 at 7:47 pm

Perhaps so. But that doesn’t make it the best console in gaming history. NES lasted from 1984 through 1994, had around 1000 total games, and to a lot of people will always be the “King of Consoles”.

    • January 29, 2014 at 5:36 pm

James you need to repeatedly tap the X-button to revive dammit! It’s right there in the corner.

      Other than that, funny episode.

Good shit. Only reason I look forward to Monday.

  • January 20, 2014 at 1:11 pm

You can’t imagine di italian dubbing on this game…hilarious. And the bugs and glitches on the PAL version are crazy as the monkeys in that The Rock movie in the Amazon that scarred me for life.

I have a few other things I watch on Mondays, like Film Riot Mondays hosted by Ryan Connolly. And Griffin Hammond’s continuation of weekly monday programming, now that the Indy Mogul (where he used to be executive producer and host) YouTube channel has been retried by Google/YouTube who owns the rights to it. I watch Lewis Lovhaug’s (Linkara) AT4W comic reviews too. There’s probably a few other things. But James and Mike Mondays are probably one of the top things for me on a gloomy Monday afternoon or night (I’m six hours ahead of the U.S.) πŸ˜€

      • January 24, 2014 at 6:10 pm

I miss Backyard FX. That show was awesome!

  • January 20, 2014 at 1:30 pm

I know I’m going to get a ton of flak for this, but I find these “James & Mike mondays” videos… more cringeworthy than entertaining.

It’s a bit like watching Beavis and Butthead… but in a completely negative sense. At least B&B was humorous because the stupidity was intentional. In these videos I don’t see the juvenile behavior as any kind of intentional parody. It’s just juvenile, period. And often it’s not even all that entertaining.

For example in their previous video Mike asked “who the f*ck is Robert Mapplethorpe?”, which was a perfect setup for some smart commentary… and James responded with something completely stupid and infantile. Not even funny stupid, just outright stupid, period. It was cringeworthy, really.

This video is not much different. None of these videos are.

    • January 20, 2014 at 1:45 pm

Some are better than others, but a recent one (Bio Force Ape) was cool to check out, since it was unreleased. And Karate Champ, Sonic ’06, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, etc are hilarious because the games are SO bad that they’re just ridiculous to try and play.

They’re definitely a different style from the AVGN vids, but I enjoy watching Mike & James’ general commentary on the games. Plus, it helps me look forward to new content every Monday!

    • Kevin T. Bell

      January 20, 2014 at 1:52 pm

I normally don’t reply to these kinds of messages, but if these videos are not your cup of tea, then why watch them? It’s just seeing James and Mike as they really are – playing games. It’s a glimpse of them literally playing games while joking with each other, once a week. By now, you know the formula.

Sure, sometimes it can frustrate me when they get too busy talking and joking that they miss something on screen, then pick on the game for not being good (Sonic 06. Which wasn’t a good game overall – horrid loading screens that make doing the side quests unplayable – glitching levels and more, but what they were messing up on could have been avoided by simply paying attention). Or when they can’t do something like a jump, but I think that’s more the gamer inside me just being a jerk and I acknowledge that.

But I really enjoy that they take the time to give us content once a week when they don’t have to and that we can see a little of what they are like together playing games as two friends. James is just a really nice guy who is extremely busy, so this is both probably relaxing for him and fun while giving us content.

And your message just comes off kind of mean spirited. It’s one thing to say you don’t care for it and move on by not watching these videos anymore, but to compare them to Beavis and Butthead? Anyway, I just wanted to say I think you can tell how these types of videos will go now, so if you don’t like them you might want to skip them and watch the other videos James makes that you do enjoy.

To James and Mike, thanks for all the content you produce and keep making it!

    • Don Skiver

      January 20, 2014 at 6:54 pm

Pray tell, which one of James’ videos do you like that isn’t completely “juvenile”? Is it the one where he takes a big diarrhea shit on bugs bunny? Or is it the one where the cowardly lion plasters an SNES game on the ceiling with his spackle-shit? Oh oh, I know! It must be the one where James and Mr. Kaufmann were both vomiting and shitting all over the same NES cart.

I honestly don’t know what you were expecting. Did you see the name “Robert Mapplethorpe” and expect a bunch of poignant commentary on photography from an artist and a film maker? Were you maybe hoping they would have been familiar with Mapplethorpe’s more avant garde works?

I mean really, what were you expecting? Be honest because I think this has more to do with you being disappointed than with James and Mike’s videos sucking.

      • January 24, 2014 at 12:29 pm

Most AVGN videos are over-the-top exaggerations, but done in a smart way. It’s entertaining satire, and it really digs into the core problems of each game in an interesting and funny way. Doing that kind of videos really requires talent, which shows that James has tons of it, and he really knows his stuff, and knows how to make entertaining videos.

That’s the main reason why I have been so disappointed with these “J&M mondays” videos. It seems that approximately zero research goes into them, and they can be really frustrating. For example, in the Jekyll&Hyde video they had no idea how the logic of the game works with respect to when Hyde dies, even though James says in the same video that he has been playing the game for like ten years or so. Even if you couldn’t figure it out on your own, it takes but a little bit of googling to find it out (ie. Hyde dies if he reaches the same point as Jekyll.)
Even more obnoxiously, they are flabbergasted that Jekyll seems to die at random… when there’s a huge-ass life bar at the top of the screen that goes to empty when he dies…

There’s such a dissonance between the AVGN videos and these ones. The AVGN videos are smart, well-researched and fun, while these videos are cringeworthy and mostly stupid. So the problem is, really, that the AVGN videos have set up such high standards of quality that these videos seem extremely poor in comparison.

  • January 20, 2014 at 1:34 pm

Damn, I love Mondays. Watching Mickey get his clock cleaned by Rocky, hahah – “He’s dead, he’s dead!!”

  • Aaron1375

    January 20, 2014 at 1:52 pm

That is cool…a fighting game where they actually take into account the character’s strength. I always hate when they make someone who is weaker the same strength as everyone else like how they make it so people can take on the Hulk who have no business taking on the Hulk have no problem in those Marvel versus Capcom games and how Mr. Satan has no trouble fighting Super Saiyan 4 Goku in the DBZ games.

    January 20, 2014 at 2:32 pm

Why they didn`t include Adrian and a Rocky with a beat-up face as playable characters is beyond me … Btw would have loved to see you dueling again for who`s gonna pick the next game.

  • nowaitstop

    January 20, 2014 at 2:44 pm

I think I found out why I like watching you two playing games over others. It is because this is what playing games with friends is really like: It’s not just playing the game, but having a conversation as well. The only thing more fun than watching you two play games and chat is doing it in real life. Keep it up, guys. Your videos are incredibly entertaining!

This is for you, James – you could thank me later πŸ™‚

  • January 20, 2014 at 4:05 pm

I was hoping to see some of the glitches from the Game glitches episode.
    Mickey part was funny.

  • LordGeo

    January 20, 2014 at 4:27 pm

In all honesty, this was a disappointing video. The biggest reason of all is that James kind of came off as a little dumb in this video. No offense is meant, but when James as Mickey is knocked down & James is asking “How do I get up?”, all while the screen is showing a meter at the bottom showing the X button, I just kept asking myself “Why isn’t James mashing the X button to get himself back up?” Hell, why didn’t Mike just say “Keep pressing the X button”, since Mike obviously knew what to do in the first fight when he kept getting back up. Hell, it looked like Mike didn’t even know how to block, either.

The emotion & fun was definitely in this video, but everything else kind of fell flat. These videos shouldn’t be making James & Mike look like two guys who don’t know what they’re doing. I want to see a video of two friends having fun playing a video game, but I also expect them to at least have a basic idea of what they’re doing, barring some incredibly awkward or confusing gameplay (which I’m sure Rocky didn’t have).

    • BrandeX

      January 21, 2014 at 6:28 am

Only 5 minutes, and what was presented made them (especially James), look like they suck at video games and don’t actually know what they are doing. I agree, how could you miss the clearly shown “X” on the bottom of the screen as well.

  • drev

    January 20, 2014 at 4:30 pm

It’s so funny that they put so many characters, I’d like to see the rocky statue fight. While there at it, why not but the crappy robot from rocky 4 !

  • January 20, 2014 at 4:33 pm

For tapping situations like getting up in this game, consider using your index and middle finger instead of thumb. you can get going pretty fast. I play Soul calibur / Tekken without thumbs as well.

Can you play an older game? Or wait, can you guys play a new game. Like one you never played before. Also let it be something you aren’t used at. Like Fps shooters (something that isn’t Call Of Duty). I wanna see your reactions. Also if you wanna play an old game play Fist of the North Star, its a piece of dog shit.

I love these videos but can I make a couple suggestions? Please use lav or boom mics as the audio level of your voices are far lower than they should be. The audio levels of your voices should be raised across the board. Also, can we see a Spy vs. Spy (NES) James & Mike vid? Thanks!
