    Very nice James.

    October 24, 2013 at 5:54 am

I’m looking forward to James’ review of Alien vs Predator: Requiem. I’ve never seen it before myself, but it seems to get even more hate than the first AvP movie does. Most people I’ve talked to who’ve seen it not only say it’s horrible, but the worst Alien or Predator related movie by far. I’m curious to hear what James has to say about it.

    • October 24, 2013 at 5:57 am

YES ITS THAT BAD! By far the worst movie in either series or any crossover. I’m dead fuckin serious!

    • Lastor

      October 24, 2013 at 10:07 am

      Don’t worry, I didn’t see it either.

Sure I watched it but I seriously couldn’t see anything.

It only makes you appreciate how visually dark yet so unbelievably clear the look of the original Alien is.

    • piratinflas

      October 24, 2013 at 10:31 am

The main problem with Requiem is that the movie is so damn dark.

      • smeagol99

        October 24, 2013 at 11:10 pm

I ended up watching it on some little ass tv sent it back to Netflix the next day after watching the first half hour couldn’t tell what was going on

    • October 24, 2013 at 12:12 pm

I actually liked Requiem more than the first AVP. The human story is terrible, but I felt like they got the Aliens and the Predator right. The Predator is a bad-ass cleaner that man-handles the aliens. The aliens, are vicious creatures that kill without prejudice, AND for the first time that I can remember since Aliens, they got that sound back. You know, that one that’s like a distorted high-pitch elephant?

      • keystone

        October 24, 2013 at 4:14 pm

I have to agree with you. I saw the first AvP in theaters and it left such a bad taste in my mouth I waited until I could download Requiem. Requiem was definitely better in my opinion.

      • October 24, 2013 at 7:20 pm

Its sound like a high pitched elephant because the sound recorders for that film recorded a scared elephant and FLAMINGO then mashed it together to get that sound.

I love it, personally. It’s cheesy and it’s stupid; it’s just mindless entertainment. It’s two aliens fighting each other with a bunch of idiotic teenagers caught in the middle. What did people expect? Everyone rants on and on about this film as if they’re surprised that it wasn’t Citizen Kane, but you would think that would would know what they’re getting into.

    • October 12, 2015 at 1:15 pm

Nintendomaniac… I saw both – and to be honest I feel both were pretty bad, but if I am honest – I think AvP: Requiem was the better of the two from a personal perspective…

Lord knows, I actually had to stop the DVD and go and make a coffee as the film made me wretch in one scene!!!

But both films are pretty abysmal overall… If there had not been so many changes to Directors and crew as well as massive disagreements over story – They may just have been able to secure rights to the DARK HORSE COMICS AvP Story which is infinitely far better than either of these movies…

  • October 24, 2013 at 5:54 am

A vs P was a huge potato. However it did well at the greek box office

    • SilverShadow333

      October 24, 2013 at 1:03 pm

You can say that again. It’s like a potato with lots of pretty lights and a mp5 stuck in the side.

      • October 25, 2013 at 12:56 am

That sounds like a good nickname for Bruce Willis.

  • October 24, 2013 at 5:54 am

All I can say is that most of the predator movies hold up pretty well for the most part. I actually really enjoyed the first AVP, but the second AVP was by far the worst to me. Half the movie is a build up to something that never happens and the alien/predator hybrid that had so much potential was underwhelming (hey james stole my word, lol) with nothing that special or super bad ass about it. Plus the fact that the movie is so dark you never actually get to see the hybrid that well. It could have been a regular alien and not that much of the story would’ve changed at all. Then preadators came out and surprised me. Not a great or fantastic movie but better than I expected and entertaining at least.

      October 24, 2013 at 6:05 am

i love the 3th predators movie.
for me also a supprise and i still love it.
althought it has a lot of scene taken over from the first movie.
but it was a lot better than predator 2.

and laurence fishburn is freaking awesome

    October 24, 2013 at 6:02 am

the only thing i always hated about this movie is,
you have 3 predators and what like 6 aliens.
and in the flashback 3 predators fight 500000 aliens ok yeah they loose but thats normal i think.

but here 2 predators die from 2 aliens.

1 ok gets a cheapshot in the back.
but the other 1 kills of that alien.
and than fights the alien that is called nethead in the games.
but i mean why does he looses.
    its a freaking awesome fight.
    and he still loses.
i mean i am more of an alien fan but still it would have been better if the predator won.
because now we are down to 1 predator.

i thought if they had changed that up maby a little bit.
the movie what have been better.

oow and just kill the woman.
    who cares about the humans.

i hope part 2 is up next not that it is any better

    • October 24, 2013 at 6:48 am

The thing is, Preds are all about fighting alone. They are solo fighters. So even if there was multiple ones, they would not fight together. Xenomorphs however are all about the swarm, and fighting together. Makes sence to me.

  • October 24, 2013 at 6:12 am

Pretty much how I feel about it. Not specifically, offensively bad, just a whole lotta “who cares”.

Though I was slightly annoyed about how all the previous Alien movies made such a big deal about keeping the Xenomorphs away from Earth, only to find out, “Psych, they were here before any of you were born.”

    October 24, 2013 at 6:15 am

I kind of liked the first AVP. Of course no memorable characters and little cheesy plot, but the surviving predator was badass in this one.. And the action scenes were awesome. But no gore or anything in this movie, which might be one of other reasons those fans were so disappointed. The second AVP with it’s frightened teenies n shit, the review of which I hope to see posted tomorrow, is another story.

    October 24, 2013 at 6:25 am

I know I should not read too much into something like Predator or Alien vs. Predator because it’s fiction, but there’s something I’ve always found funny: How do the Predators have all that technology and advanced spaceships, then most of them seem like simple hunters? Many of them wear lion cloth-looking clothes and just seems like savages. There’s already been much debate on this topic. Some people seem to be under the impression that the Predators must have gotten all the stuff from some other place. Others say that their civilization may have broken into two parts, or more, with some of the Predators being highly educated academics and scientists, and others being mindless drones and/or hunters. Is there an actual canon answer though? If there’s any hardcore Predator fan here who wants to enlighten me, feel free to do so 🙂

  • October 24, 2013 at 6:45 am

I liked the movie, but its not great. I personaly think it has 2 very big flaws. It focuses on the human characters to much, (and having the black woman as a Pred sidekick was just silly) But its biggest flaw was that its pg-13. WTH a movie that is based of two series that are R for gore and violence, is pg-13? I was soooo disappointed.

  • rush86

    October 24, 2013 at 6:52 am

this was a horrible movie. Wish they never made it.

  • October 24, 2013 at 6:58 am

Alien Vs. Predator suck so much ass

  • October 24, 2013 at 7:03 am

I sort of liked the first AvP movie. It was a popcorn flick that was designed to be a slug fest and a big time waster. It was entertaining to me, especially the fight scenes.

AvP:R, on the other hand, I hated. The movie just was not entertaining for me. In fact, there’s a few parts that I really, *really* HATED about that movie…namely the part where the hunter’s son dies (I don’t like children getting killed in movies) and the part where the pregnant woman is implanted with alien embryos and has 3 of them burst from her VERY pregnant belly thus killing her and her unborn child (I don’t like seeing pregnant women killed, and I dislike EVEN MORE seeing babies get killed). It made my stomach churn and I very nearly vomited. True fucking story.

    Bottom line, AvP = mindless brawl that is kinda fun;
AvP:R = sicko slasher flick without any payoff.

  • October 24, 2013 at 7:07 am

The only Alien film i’ve seen in cinema.

  • October 24, 2013 at 7:16 am

I didn’t know about this movie until it was out on DVD so I didn’t expect much. When I watched it I thought the predator was made out to be way too weak.

  • October 24, 2013 at 7:19 am

wtf listening to a fullscreen movie!

  • Pascal

    October 24, 2013 at 7:25 am

I saw AvP in the theatre and I still think it was a waste of time and money. The ending is just a total disappointment, the overall casting was way below par. And the whole movie, the pace is off, all scenes are way to bright, no use of shadows and darkness in a building that is submerged. It’s a sad thing they screwed this up, and thanks to this I didn’t bother checking AvP2 at all.

  • October 24, 2013 at 7:29 am

This could have been so much better, but as a straightforward popcorn flick, it does what it should. Still, at a certain point the introduction of the alien queen reminded me of shots in Jurassic Park, I never really understood why, it was just one of those things that get in your mind a split second after you see the introduction of said queen.

  • Loserhero1982

    October 24, 2013 at 7:30 am

The thing that angered/disappointed me the most was that the arcade beat em up of aliens vs predator had such an epic story that it would of made the perfect film I had so much hopes when i heard this movie was in the works. I’ll always have that beat em up though capcom really outdid themselves.

    • AbsoluteDeicide

      October 24, 2013 at 7:58 am

The original PC game and the Jaguar one were much better than the movie, too.

  • Rattrap007

    October 24, 2013 at 7:34 am

To me AvP:R tried way too hard to ramp up the graphic violence. That is why you get dead kid and babies. It wasn’t needed. It needed more likable characters like Aliens had.

AVP, the first one was decent. It failed to live up to the potential and years of anticipation. All the other media (comics, books, etc) all had peaked our minds and we imagined epic ideas. But when it got made it wasn’t what people imagined so they were disappointed.

Also “Full Screen” version James? shame..

    • Cilliandrew

      October 24, 2013 at 8:27 am

Haha, i felt exactly the same way with the FULLSCREEN version :p and yes, i do agree about AvP:R.

  • AbsoluteDeicide

    October 24, 2013 at 7:55 am

Oh boy, I remember going to see this on the first showing opening day. I’d gotten drunk as fuck the night before and still had a good buzz; looked around the theater and noticed a bunch of young kids and thought, “that’s cool their parents take them to a movie that’s sure to be super violent and gory…” Then the PG-13 rating came up and I wished I’d looked into the movie more before I got all hyped about it on the potential alone. It was all downhill from there. Corny movie.

AvP: R was a bit more respectable, but I’m sure that’s tomorrow’s review.

  • Cilliandrew

    October 24, 2013 at 8:06 am

Full Screen, James? FULL SCREEN? 😛

  • A.Regular-Person

    October 24, 2013 at 8:18 am

Only thing I didn’t like about this film (I saw it at a young age, so I didn’t know about all the hype) was that one alien killed two predators. That was bullshit then, and it’s still bullshit now.

  • vsion

    October 24, 2013 at 8:19 am

I thought Bishop at the end of Alien 3 was an android?

    • Cilliandrew

      October 24, 2013 at 8:35 am

I was always a bit confused about that, because he gets clocked in the head and then it looks like his ear is, like, hanging off half his face. Though i do think it looks like red blood and not android blood, but i definitely know where you’re coming from on that one!

  • October 24, 2013 at 8:26 am

    man, i like that movie

  • Doug Morris

    October 24, 2013 at 8:40 am

I think I actually understand what I don’t really like about this movie. The original Alien was a masterpiece of Sci-Fi and Horror. This movie is not Sci-Fi, is not horror, and that I think is the problem. It is only an action movie with a poor script. At least it has Alien vs. Predator to give the title cred.

    • October 24, 2013 at 8:55 am

That is really the whole thing I think. I enjoy the movie for what is but I really hate it for what it isn’t, if that makes sense. Also a huge part of the Alien Vs Predator line of comics and novels take place in the future in sci-fi. Both the fucking movies take place in the present which is hardly fitting.

      • Doug Morris

        October 24, 2013 at 4:05 pm

Couldn’t agree more… I do appreciate a good action movie as much as most guys, however even the fight scenes are rather predictable. No character development, very little character interaction, and a boring Weyland! Oh well, at least the CGI was reasonably tastefully done.

  • Morris Wex

    October 24, 2013 at 8:52 am

I never thought this was a bad movie but then I learned a long time ago. WHen a movie has versus in the title, lower your expectations. Kind of like when a movie is a SYfy Premier, you should have no expectations. As such I actually enjoyed it.

I also don’t think it was a matter of being sore losers it’s more a case of, blow your self up or be face raped and impregnated by a giant slimy spider thing…yeah I’m sure most of us would agree with their choice.

  • October 24, 2013 at 9:00 am

The reason Bishop in the end of Alien 3 looks exactly like Charles Weyland is because Bishop is an android of Charles.

  • VideoBoom

    October 24, 2013 at 9:06 am

Not sure if anybody has mentioned this but one of the first drafts of the screenplay to Alien Vs Predator had humans and zero dialogue. I read the first scene and it seemed cool. im sure the whole thing is up on the internetz somewhere.

    • VideoBoom

      October 24, 2013 at 9:07 am

Sorry “no humans and no dialogue”

  • October 24, 2013 at 9:35 am

Why do you have the fullscreen version? lol

    • October 24, 2013 at 10:07 am

Better question. Why do they make them? It sucks to buy a DVD and then find out it’s panned and scanned.

      • October 26, 2013 at 8:56 am

Yeah seriously, DVD’s should automatically be in widescreen by default I mean it’s kind of the point of a DVD to see “more” movie. I remember back in the day when they would make a fullscreen and widecreen version of a VHS, god those were the days lol

      • October 26, 2013 at 8:58 am

Go away you horrid movie……Go away you horrid format!!!!!

  • October 24, 2013 at 9:47 am

    October 24, 2013 at 11:14 am

I wish you would have put some emphasis on the 360 spin spear attack the predator warrior put on the Alien Queen, that was the highlight of the movie for me. Oh also, when he made weapons for the girl, that was neet too.

    Bring on AvP R!

  • October 24, 2013 at 11:39 am

For as unremarkable as this movie is, it’s one of the only sci-fi feature films I’ve ever come across with a black female main character. I don’t just mean part of an ensemble cast, like Uhura in Star Trek. I mean THE main character. It’s embarrassing that this is one of the only ones.

  • DragonoftheEastblue

    October 24, 2013 at 11:40 am

I don’know James. Shouldn’t it be about the versus and nothing else? Or at least the other stuff that make up a film should be cared less?

  • October 24, 2013 at 11:52 am

Fun fact: I actually know a bunch of people who really, really like AVP. The twist? All of them are women. I think it’s because the main female character is kind of unremarkable but still nice and the story between her is something you can read as a really weird almost romantic thing OR as a tale of getting male respect/approval. That’s my theory on why this movie in my experience seems to hit home a bit more for women.

  • October 24, 2013 at 11:56 am

I don’t like the last days of October in CMMM. James really rushes to get done all the videos, and doesn’t talk too much about each one of them. There is a lot of material to talk about or to work with, and it seems that James only says: This is AvP, a crossover between this 2 monsters, not as bad as everyone says, but neither is a master piece. The end.

Please James, I know that there is a lot of work to get this videos done, but you can do better reviews. In the first ones, you put a lot of effort on them, i’m talking about the Frankenstein ones, you talk about the entire movie: plot, characters, story, the endings, the deaths, everything.

    Good day!

    • Radelta

      October 24, 2013 at 1:06 pm

I waited TEN YEARS to see this movie (basically since I played the Capcom arcade game), my hype was “over 9000”, I was in the first seat of the first session of the premiere day of this movie. I remember that I liked it but anyway I as VERY disappointed. I was waiting for a futuristic thing (like the Capcom game). But it was Ok…

  • SilverShadow333

    October 24, 2013 at 1:00 pm

The problems with the Alien VS Predator movies:
They don’t fit inside the ‘Moderny’ era.
It would be MUCH cooler if it was Aliens VS Predators VS Space Marines instead of just…. ye olden arcaeologists or later….school kids…and the chick from that 24 show. Yuck.

They took it from Horror-SciFi and tried to just go STRAIGHT into action/CG and that brought the series to a new low. Like James says, NONE of the human characters are memorable. There’s no one with any charisma, but not just that…they’re all….STUPID AS FUCK. It’s like seriously, get the hell outta there! “Oh but we gotta go find Joe-Joe and his little dog first! They might get eaten by aliens! We can’t have that!” It’s….like that. =/ We need more badasses. And how comes they gotta kill off the COOL looking Predators first EVERY TIME! Damn…that really makes the story suck when the RUNT Pred is the last one standing each time. (Well, till the end…)

  • Xilex90

    October 24, 2013 at 1:03 pm

….Since when does anyone think this movie is bad? Everyone I know thinks this movie is the shit. Especially me. I was fresh into the fandom when I saw it and I thought it was a worthy and epic crossover. It has exactly what you’d expect and want form an AVP movie. Great actors, lots of action. and lots of Realistic suit and animatronic action, and a respectable amount of CGI.

Oh my god, tomorrow is ALIENS VS PREDATOR 2, the shittiest sequel ever

  • videogamehunter820

    October 24, 2013 at 2:54 pm

My biggest problems with this movie is that they got the concept of Alien vs. Predator wrong. Now the setup was good (with the pyramid and stuff). But the idea of Alien vs. Predator (at least for me) is quality vs. quantity. The Alien is quick, silent, sneaky, and attacks mainly in numbers (quantity). The Predator is stronger, smarter, and has more weapons (quality). In one scene, a single alien kills 2 out of 3 predators. That’s not right. I know that they are young bloods, but this kind of takes away any credibility from the predators (seeing as how there are tons of aliens, the predators never stood a chance then). On top of that, it seemed to me that (while there were some decent fights with the alien and predator) the humans were mainly the ones fighting the aliens or the predators. That just goes against the whole concept of the freak’n movie. The lead character was just a cheap, bad attempt at recreating Ripley or Vasquez and all guys in the movie were useless. I still like AVP: Requiem better because (though the characters were bad) it had more fights between the alien and predator (which is all the fans really wanted to see). I don’t hate the first AVP movie, I’ll watch it, but it just had those 2 big flaws in it, that’s all. Great review (as always), James!!!

    • Bludman2

      October 24, 2013 at 5:35 pm

Apparently the guy who created Alien vs Predator said that the two to three predators that were killed by that single alien were elites while the one from the movie Predator was a baby by comparison

      • videogamehunter820

        October 25, 2013 at 11:58 am

So what you’re saying is that the 2 predators killed by that single alien were veterans/experienced hunters and the one that stayed alive for most of the movie was a not as experienced hunter? WTF!

  • October 24, 2013 at 3:20 pm

When i watch this movie i watch it for the action, for me, at least, a versus movie is something to watch for the action. If that delivers it’s great, and this delivers. Haters gonna hate, no matter what you make.

    • Bludman2

      October 24, 2013 at 5:28 pm

It does deliver in the action department but it lacks everything that a good movie needs and fucks up the aliens and the predators.

  • K6CTX

    October 24, 2013 at 3:30 pm

Damn. I was really hoping you weren’t going to include the AvP films in the list as they are a poor representation of either franchise.

  • Ben_from_G-town

    October 24, 2013 at 3:40 pm

You haven’t reviewed Predator, yet? In any case, the mini-review of it is appreciated. And now, we’re getting to the point where I haven’t seen these movies. I never saw AVP, because, like you said, everyone kept saying how horrible it was. We don’t even get Aliens vs. Predators with Space Marines thrown into the mix, like was promised in the old comics and toys. Ah well. Yeah, there’s no way this could have lived up to the hype, either way, though. Still, yeah, what you said about somes it up. This movie is cheap, underwhelming, and not very memorable.

What I hate about AVP is that the title is a lie. The Predators were the good guys, and they won before the movie even started, they only keep the Aliens around so they can kick their asses over and over. I wanted to see Alien vs. Predator, not this crappy fan fiction by Predator lovers. What makes this even more pathetic is that the Alien series is known for being super feminine (the Aliens are sleek with no armor, they kill to make babies and don’t use weapons, the main hero of the series is Sigourney Weaver) and the Predator series is known for being very masculine (the Predators are muscular with lots of armor, they kill for fun and they love weapons, the main hero of the series is Arnold Schwarzenegger), so a real fight would have been much more fun. The people who made this film should be ashamed of themselves, like they were caught fucking a donkey or something. And that was so lame when the Predator and the black chick teamed up, that doesn’t even make sense, the Predator should have wanted to kill humans even more than Aliens; because if the Aliens got them first, they could make more Aliens.

You forgot to mention how it fucks up the canon of the comics. In one of the comics it explains how that the predators have those weird mouths to kill facehuggers that attach to it. Yet in the movie that happens anyway.

I think James is wrong about Bishop in Alien 3.Bishop was an android in that one too. When he’s struck in the head you can see the same android blood dripping from his head.Bishop in AVP is supposed to be the founder himself.

  • October 24, 2013 at 6:03 pm

James, you say mutliple times you don’t think the movie is bad it’s just not good and the reasons you cite it are it’s non memorable characters and the cheapness. But that’s exactly why everyone hated it. You really summed up exactly what everyone was saying when it was released. You’ve just avoided the hype wagon all of these years. Just know your distaste for the movie may sound soft but it’s dead on. I too saw the movie well after it’s release and loved the premise but hated the acting and characters. It really fell flat and the script should have been rewritten a few times before going to production. The world of Alien and Predator is awesome, both in teh same movie is epic… yet no one can write a decent screenplay.

One of the first mistakes of the first AvsP movie was that it was PG-13. Sure, it had some alien gore here and there, but it was an odd choice to make considering that the Predator and Alien movies were never so tame. Still though, the action was fun and surprisingly brutal in terms of how they kill each other. Personally, one concept I loved about AvsP was really digging into the Predator culture. I remember a human once was taken to the Predator homeworld in fact. That was a fucking awesome story arc. Too bad the next movie really drew back the ambition and was placed in a small town with some terrible cliche characters. That said, I hope you give Predators a run. It was a hell of a predator movie in my opinion.

  • October 24, 2013 at 7:14 pm

the most major issue I had with the movie was Sanaa Lathan’s acting, honestly to me she ruined it- her acting was terrible and even the character she portrays it’s self was bad. it was just to cliche. “oh now she gets to fight against the aliens with the predator” had her character died earlier on I would have been a lot more satisfied with the movie.

  • October 24, 2013 at 7:23 pm

Wait a minute. Weyland in Alien3 was also an android at the end.

I think the main problems with the AVP films are 1) They mess around with the established lore of both creatures 2) Linking in with this they messed around with the Xenomorphs origins, now these films dont fit cannon as Prometheus states the Engineers created them! 3) These films focus too much on the human characters, lets face it no one gives a dam about the humans, the ONLY legitimate way I feel that the human characters might have relevance would be if they had an alien vs predator film with Ripley and either Schwazennager or Danny Glover (cant remember their characters names lol) in them. Wouldnt it be cool to see a film where Ripley went in expecting xenomorphs and then had to face predators instead/aswell?! 4) There needs to be a definitive winner and as both of these species are just that species this film should be larger in scope leading to the anhialation of one of the species and the spread of the other, leading me into point 5) The films are both set on earth, yawn, why not set them on the alien home planet (planet the aliens are first discovered I mean ala alien) or even the predator planet. Hell why not have it on a completely different alien species planet and expand the universe with new creatures, possibly even throw some engineers (space jockeys) into the mix.
    6) The avp films do nothing to progress the overall narrative of the solo franchises as a whole, we learn nothing new about either species that we didnt already know before.
    7) And this is a particular problem rampant throughout all the alien solo films as well, the xenomorphs acid blood is depicted in so many varying strengths its rediculous, alien 1 shows is can burn through several layers, yet in other alien films and especially the alien vs predator films (such as the first where she puts the acid on her forehead) it barely does much damage and seems to stop burning pretty quickly.
    8) Food for thought, why is it that the predators are so obsessed with hunting and tribe like activity etc when they are so technologically advanced, I mean they certainly dont seem nerdy enough to have built all these spaceships, cloaking devices etc and surely that goes against their belief of fair sport in the hunt, going against humans with the equivalent of pea shooters when compared to their cloaking devices and laser cannons, it just doesnt seem to fit. One idea is that they maybe stole the tech of a conqured species. I always also thought it strange and this is way off topic but regardless, that The Thing from The Thing (mainly in John Carpenters remake and arguably superior version) comes to earth in a space ship but then throughout the film it seems like it is more a creature of base insticts rather than intelligent enough to have built the spacecraft, perhaps it stole the spacecraft, or was sent out as a weapon by the real occupants of the spacecraft that we never see?! I dunno, I digress, my point is that AVP films in theory are a great idea and I’d love to see them done properly ignoring the current two in cannon but by the creators of the solo franchises, sadly I dont ever see this happening, but the reality of what they have become is highly dissappointing!

God that movie sucked! For something that should have been so awesome, it was the most wretched disappointment I’ve ever seen. Paul Anderson sucks! If he ruins Castlevania like he ruined Resident Evil and AvP……..well there’s NOT MUCH I CAN DO ABOUT IT IS THERE! F’ing laws.

P.S. Please James review the individual 3 predator films (especially predators) after the AVP film reviews and can you make the reviews a bit longer, I know you are very busy and I can appreciate that these take time to do, but some of us poor folks rely on your hillarious and informative videos to brighten up our otherwise drearilly dull lifes. I think all can agree more James = more smiles 🙂 How about getting Mike to co review some films next monster madness, it would be interesting to see his view on alot of these classics, I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking this! Keep up the great videos anyways, especially the Monster Madness, its the thing I look forward to most every Halloween now 🙂

If I’m not mistaken, the “Bishop” in Alien 3 was also an android. He *claims* to be the creator of the Bishop androids, but if you remember, one of the prisoners hits him in the head with a pipe right as Ripley is about to jump into the molten metal, and it rips the side of his head open. You don’t get a very good look, but can see his ear hanging off of his head, and he’s completely unfazed by it. When I saw the movie, I took it as a confirmation that the Weyland-Yutani corp couldn’t be trusted, as his claim to actually be the human Bishop was revealed to be just another lie.

    • Cilliandrew

      October 25, 2013 at 7:20 pm

See, i was always confused by this, because yes his ear is hanging, but i swear the blood was RED and not WHITE. It’s a very weird scene, and definitely confusing, but he shows too much emotion when he is begging Ripley to not kill it to be an android.

  • October 24, 2013 at 9:57 pm

How could you not bring up that this shit was rated PG-13!!

This is the ONLY movie in the series with that rating. Did you really not notice that while watching?

  • October 24, 2013 at 10:07 pm

pero como así. Si le pareció tan buena por qué no habló más de ella. Era necesario hablar de depredador antes, pero cuando llegó al tema central del video lo pasó volando. Genial el comentario de “Kramer vs. Kramer”

Great review. Kind of hoping they reboot this series especially AvP. This movie had a great concept but didn’t deliver in terms of story. If you want to make a good Avp movie then put some colonial marines from aliens in it.

    October 24, 2013 at 11:17 pm

I actually enjoy AvP. Watched it for the first time on tv and it freaked me and my brother out. But it opened the door to Aliens for me. I liked it mainly for the special effects.

  • D-Man

    October 24, 2013 at 11:49 pm

I think the fundamental problem was that they waited too long. They confirmed the overlap of the two series in 1990 with Predator 2, and between then and 2004 so many AvP games, comics, and other media, so many good ideas had already been used that the producers had to chose between cliche’d themes, or an enormous break from expectations that ran the risk of becoming a Highlander 2. So they chose the cliche and collected their profits.

  • October 25, 2013 at 12:26 am

Hey i just wanted to say that alien vs predator are related to the movie prometheus because it is believed that the mala’kak (engineers) in prometheus created the xenomorphs as a weapon against there enemy, the yautja (predators). In the movie Aliens the unidentified spaceship was an mala’kak spaceship. The reason for it to have all the alien eggs may have been to destroy the human race because the yautja improve their weapon, armor, and tactics based on fighting humans. At the end of Prometheus we saw a xenomorph that looked slightly different. This xenomorph is believed to be the prototype xenomorph or the protomorph. We also see a mala’kak mask in the trophy room of the yautja. Most of this is just predictions based fact and observation but all three franchises are directly related

    • October 25, 2013 at 12:54 am

The engineers are also known as space-jockeys. And when i say the movie aliens i meant alien.

  • Aaron1375

    October 25, 2013 at 1:40 am

I like it okay, but as you say it was underwhelming. It was also insane to make it PG-13 instead of R. Took a lot of the edge off it. Freddy Versus Jason did better than this one or its sequel, that movie wasn’t super great either, but it lived up to its hype more.

The worst apart about this film, WAS the bullshit retcon nonsense of “Oh, Predators breed Aliens, for game, on ancient Earth”. Sorry, but to risk sounding overly nerdy for a second, that shit simply is NOT “canon”. Not even by a longshot.

James I could be wrong it’s been years since I’ve seen Alien3 but I’m pretty sure the reason Michael Weyland looks like Charles Weyland is because he’s another android, when Ripley jump and he screams NOOOOOO!! you can see that his ear is hanging having been knocked almost off when he was hit in the head

I REALLY hated this movie. I hate how they show the audience a facehugger landing on a Predator’s face only to later reveal that the Alien/Predator hybrid would be saved for a sequel. AS IF THIS MOVIE WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO WARRANT A SEQUEL (yet one came out anyway). They should’ve focused more on making THIS movie GOOD.

    October 28, 2013 at 12:05 pm

AvsP was decent enough. Not great, not bad. Kinda like Alien 3 eh? It was ultimately a fun watch overall. I was a bit disappointed with the gore in the movie, but they managed to fit in a bit of cool alien deaths. The facehugger getting cut in half was awesome. I think the overall problem is that they over think the plot. They try to make it canon but it distracts from the name of the game. Two franchises clashing together. We didn’t need the amount of back story fit into the film. I’d argue that all the movie would really need to remind the audience of is that Predators are obsessed with hunting. Freddy vs Jason was a much better franchise vs franchise movie because it balanced the act of backstory, tribute, and never took itself too seriously. AvsP just loves the smell of it’s own shit and nobody likes a smug movie.

  • October 29, 2013 at 2:47 pm

Great videos. but when i watch them they cut off at the end mid sentence. Anyone else?

  • October 29, 2013 at 3:12 pm

You never mentioned the movie “Predators”

  • October 30, 2013 at 8:25 am

I actually worked on the VFX for AvP in London back in 2004. There is actually much more CG in there than people realise partly because a lot of the animatronics from ADI were not working well on set. But the best part of it was that a couple of years later when I was working in LA I randomly met a screen writer called Peter Briggs in a British pub called the Fox and Hounds. He wrote the script for the first Hellboy film. While we were talking he asked me what films I had worked on in London and I mentioned that AvP was one of them. What I learned was that he was actually the guy who had penned the original AvP script in the 90s. From what he told me, the original idea was to have an “Enemy Mine” style to it set in the same time-line as Aliens/Alien3. The only human character would have been quite Ripley’esque and who would have been the last surviving Colonial Marine from an ill-fated mission. She would have crashed landed on the planet full of Predators versus Xenomorphs with one of the Predators taking the decision to protect her against the aliens. Pity, it could have been pretty epic…

  • November 5, 2013 at 2:23 pm

I saw it once and hated it and the only thing I even remember is the Matrix Facehugger. It was just fucking ridiculous – the facehugger pops out of the egg and the camera revolves around it in slow motion. My friends and I watching that just pissed ourselves laughing at it.
“Bullet timing the facehugger” became an alternate phrase for “jumping the shark” in our house for a good long while after that.

  • November 11, 2013 at 5:53 am

I personally remember the main predator, the main character (but not her name), and Queen Xenomorph (I assume that’s how it’s spelled).

  • November 16, 2013 at 8:51 am

I saw also that one and i said it and i will say this again, they only made those films in order to satisfy the fans that had the need to see those two creatures fighting each other.I like the way they make the whole thing meaning the creatures, the special efects, the action scenes. But as you said its good and at least they connect it pretty well with the other movies.Other than that for me its more action packed movies than giving attention to the plot and the atmosphere making it not even comes close to the original predator and alien.

Predator’s thermal vision was awesome… they wanted to use the real thermal goggles lense but the jungle was so incredibly hot and moist that the image was a messs so they say “screw this” and made a video effect which isn’t the real thermal imaging or anything. They made it very good with filters/effects that made it look very authentic.

One thing which I would like to add is that in AVP, its the first time when a human teams up with one of the predators. That’s worth noticing, the yautja (predator-species) has a strong sense of honor and are more civilized than the xenomorphs, who are more beastly zerg-like creatures. But in both Predator and Predator 2, the predator hunts humans in true slasher-fashion. Sure, in the end of Predator 2, danny glover’s character gets some old flint-lock pistol as a trophy from the head-predator, but the relations between human and predator, up to that point, had always been one of predator and prey.
But in AVP, things kind of changed. Though they were forced to ally by circumstance, I liked the fact that they do have respect for humans who impress them with being able to survive under duress or having to make hard decisions, like sacrificing one for the good of all.
