Thank you so much for doing what you do James
October 13, 2013 at 3:40 am
Cool Gamera vs. Barugon my kind of MONSTER FIGHT!
October 13, 2013 at 3:58 am
Greetings from sweden man, keep up with the good work:)
October 13, 2013 at 5:01 am
I actually like this Gamera movie the best, because it doesn’t have any annoying kids running around.
October 13, 2013 at 5:28 am
Another great review James
October 13, 2013 at 5:45 am
I love how the gem/egg is incubated with a special ‘foot light’ designed for treating athletes foot or something. A rainbow monster with a nitrogen shooting, battering ram tongue that was birthed via a foot light, wow.

man, unlike LJN which is a turd making machine, James is an awesome making machine. always making each and every video he releases better and better. I’ve never seen the Gamera films as of yet, but man you’ve once again gave me interest in yet another series. I’d bet that everything you touch turns into gold. you could even turn turd into gold encased turd. all joking aside, this is yet another flawless episode in this year’s Monster Madness, and I think you’ve picked the absolute best topic of discussion in only the 3rd week. from this point on, it’s not yet over, and it just keeps getting better and better.
October 13, 2013 at 6:25 am
I also like how the monster villain is at least smart and that the human characters are also interesting to watch because of the one single asshole in it. I’d bet someone could easily post a video on youtube of Barugon using the internet meme from Tosh.0 of the Double Rainbow guy. what does it mean? Godzilla, King Kong, Mothra Leo, & Gamera seem to have interesting stories that focus on them for better or worse. speaking of Mothra Leo, I would love to see James review the Rebirth Of Mothra Trilogy. I hope to see that someday.

Ok a question. I remember that in one of episodes of monster Madness James mentions a sequel to a movie, and there are clips of a white monster hanging from the ceiling of a laboratory? And some electrical charges as I remember. Can anybody help me remember what’s the title. it wasn’t thr main review it was just mentioned in one od the episodes.
October 13, 2013 at 9:38 am
In Germany, this was a Godzilla-movie. Barugon was named Godzilla and Gamera was named Barugon. The title was “Godzilla, der Drache aus dem Dschungel” (literally Godzilla, the Dragon from the Jungle).

Yahoo!!!!!! Monster Madness
October 13, 2013 at 9:53 am
So many movies to watch now. Thank you nerd.
This movie was fucked up beyond believe here in Germany. I was a kid like James – crazy about Kaiju and always on the search for more. He described it pretty well in the Godzillathon, it was always hard to find them. So I got a DVD from a friend who heard me talking about Godzilla movies and thought I would enjoy this one. Looked right at first: Godzilla on the cover (title was something stupid like “War of the Super Dinosaurs”) and on the back it showed pictures which were from the Godzilla Heisei-Era. I was so hyped about this, put it inside the DVD player… and got spoofed.
It was nothing other than this very movie, Gamera vs. Barugon. The menu showed Godzilla again and there was a bonus section with trailers for nearly all the Heisei-Era Godzilla movies.
So imagine my confusion, expecting Godzilla and seeing this. I didn’t know about Gamera at the time, so I watched it and waited for Godzilla to show up. As mentioned in this video, they don’t show Barugon for a long time, it’s this adventure crap that comes before. I believe they showed Gamera being caught and shot to Mars in the beginning, but I thought it would be Godzillas adversary.
And now comes the real bullshit: When Barugon hatches you don’t see him right away, at least not fully grown. So I thought “Godzilla hatches!” … Nope. Then this rainbow-shooting-tongue-freezing idiot comes out of the water. I didn’t believe it when I first saw it. You now that they did to justify this crap? They renamed Barugon into “Godchilla”. They really did. Not Godzilla with a “Z”, that would be too obvious, right?
As James mentioned in the Godzillathon, many monster movies and creatures got renamed here in Germany to sell them better. Most Godzilla movies of the Showa-Era had “Frankenstein” in the title and the plot was reedited so the viewer thought Frankenstein made all these monsters that Godzilla fights. They even named Jet Jaguar “King Kong” so we would think it’s the famous ape in a suit. The first Mecha Godzilla was also named King Kong, I have no idea what they were thinking.
So they renamed the movie, slapped Godzilla on the cover and the DVD menu, and named Barugon “Godchilla” to make Godzilla fans buy this. I actually enjoyed the movie as a kid, but couldn’t understand at the time why they made it look like a Godzilla movie. With further age, I realized they just wanted to sell it off to unknowing Godzilla fans.
This movie brings back a lot of memories, mostly the ones of abusing fans to make money, but still a good movie if you know what it’s supposed to be.
Thanks James, always good to see reviews from you. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the information. That’s amazing how confusing they made it all. I have always been curious about the re-edited German versions.
October 13, 2013 at 9:54 am
5:06/5:09 That’s some spooky shit there.
October 13, 2013 at 9:59 am
Great video James! I love Gamera and Monster Madness! This week will be like bread and butter!!!
October 13, 2013 at 10:16 am
So Barugon is shooting LJN rainbows?
October 13, 2013 at 10:39 am
awesome, the rest of this series is going to be great!
October 13, 2013 at 12:12 pm
I don’t think of Godzilla/Gamera movies as “Halloween” movies, personally. I do love Gamera, though, however, I like the MST3K versions. Never watched a Gamera or Godzilla movie that wasn’t being busted on by Joel and the bots.
So, from how James talks about Gamera at the end, Godzilla : Gamera : : GTA : Saints Row.
October 13, 2013 at 12:51 pm
This will probably sound pathetic, but I recently lost the love of my life and these videos are one of the few things keeping me going.
James, you’re fucking awesome. You don’t know how many lives you brighten.
October 13, 2013 at 3:22 pm
Not pathetic. Good for you for looking for something to brighten your day/life. We are all fans of James Rolfe’s work here, and I’m sure there are others that have used these videos to get through hard times. Good luck, friend.
October 13, 2013 at 2:27 pm
Best showa Gamera movie!!!
October 13, 2013 at 5:31 pm
holy crap,gamera kicks ass
October 13, 2013 at 9:26 pm
I have to say, this is one of my favorite showa gamera movies, along with Gamera vs Gyaos and Gamera vs Jiger. But I can see why James might not like this as much, it is pretty slow paced.
I am loving this year’s Monster Madness. I have most of the movies he’s reviewed up to this point, except Frankenstein Created Woman and the Horror of Frankenstein he discussed in the review for Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell.
October 13, 2013 at 10:18 pm
Taste the rainbow, bitch!
October 13, 2013 at 10:39 pm
Hey James. *********** Review the Subspecies film series. I haven’t seen them in a decade or more, but I thought they were AWESOME. I think there are 4. They revolve around a vampire in Romania… 5 movies total now? … Subspecies, Bloodstone, Bloodlust, Vampire Journals and Bloodstorm. They were done by Full Moon Studio’s and when I was a teen… I thought they were way better than most horror at the time… and you’re about my age. You must have seen them on late night HBO.
October 14, 2013 at 12:00 am
Barugon is played by a guy inside the suit crawling, right?
October 14, 2013 at 2:53 am
I’m not crazy about this one either…just takes to long to get going. My favorite of the original series is the next one, after it the series becomes to crazy (though I have a soft spot for the Zigra alien girl…growl!)
October 14, 2013 at 6:39 pm
Interesting take on Gamera. I guess, compared to the later films, this one IS pretty normal! It still seems enjoyable enough, though. I do have to say, though, that Barugan looks really silly… I think it’s the cartoonish eyes.
October 15, 2013 at 2:47 am
Baragon and Barugon…Cracks me up
October 15, 2013 at 11:22 am
I’m sure that you caught this by now but, you refer to Baragon’s origin as being from the Godzilla universe first featured in “FRANKENSTEIN CONQUERS THE WORLD” and “FRANKENSTEIN VS BARAGON”
October 15, 2013 at 11:24 am
VERIFIED i’m a dipshit and that movie DOES exist. I thought it was a mistake. sorry man
October 15, 2013 at 2:17 pm
Some day, my girlfriend who knew I was into those silly monstermovies-stuff bought a dvd for me from the bargain table that was labelled “DRAGONWARS – Krieg der Monster” (German for “War of the Monsters”). On the front cover is the face of Godzilla (from a movie of the second series). On the back cover there are 3 pictures of various scenes of Godzilla, also taken from the second Godzilla-series.
The text on the back cover translates as: “A giant heatwave causes the meltdown of polar ice and sets free Camera (!), a prehistoric being, that was caved in for thousands of years, and now is set free. All of Japan is threatened by this giant monster. At the same time the titanic dinosaur Godzilla awakens from an egg. All modern weapons turn out to uselsess against those prehistoric monsters. The only hope for mankind is that the monsters will kill each other. A gigantic battle is at hand …”
Well, the movie on the dvd is actually “Gamera vs Barugon”. In the German dub, Barugon is called “Godzilla”, while Gamera is called “Camera”. So they sold a dvd of a monster-movie from the 60s with cover-pictures of another monster from the 80s.
I am actually very proud to own this piece of messed-up dvd-piece-of-crap, because it must be very rare: The German dub was clearly produced in the 60s, but it was never ever aired in German television.
October 16, 2013 at 1:14 am
Ahhh, you were also introduced to it by mst3k ! ^^
October 16, 2013 at 3:39 am
You’re the best!
Please don’t stop doing this videos!
greetings from Mexico.
October 17, 2013 at 11:45 pm
In that scene with Barugon, I almost heard certain voice saying: “Taste the rainbow, motherfucker!”
October 19, 2013 at 5:35 am
I love Barugon’s sonic rainboom attack!
October 22, 2013 at 10:50 pm
Barugon and deadly Rainbows?
Rainbow Dash: *dons sunglasses* “Challenge accepted.”
October 26, 2013 at 12:16 am
I always like this one more than any of the other Gamera movies. It has that gritty/dark feel. something you would see late at night watching Ghost Host Theater…As someone else said, no kids and more grounded type move.
October 28, 2013 at 1:52 am
I guess Barugon is a brony.
November 2, 2013 at 4:27 pm
Wow, Lol, I didn’t know that the original Gamera series can get crazier. I can’t wait for the next vids 😀
November 3, 2013 at 4:35 pm
That’s no deadly rainbow its the LJN rainbow that made those people think of making shitty games…
November 20, 2013 at 9:55 pm
Destructive rainbows? Sounds like LJN eventually harvested and used that power to make their video games.
September 30, 2014 at 10:53 pm
There’s a reason why Barugon/バルゴン has rainbow powers. In Japan, a rainbow is traditionally an ill omen, of doom. I learned that by reading a hentai manga called Yume Tsukai/Dream User.
October 7, 2015 at 2:19 pm
Wow, that’s the complete opposite of how rainbows are viewed in western culture.
October 7, 2015 at 2:17 pm
Barugon shoots out the LJN rainbow!
I should’ve figured someone made this joke already. Oh, well!
January 2, 2016 at 2:49 am
This coverage really makes me want to see this Gamera series, I used to think all other giant monster movies were just a rip-off of the Godzilla movies…
