I love Gamera! He was even in DBZ! Great job James! 😀
October 12, 2013 at 4:06 am
Best week so far! Super stoked for Gamera shenanigans!
October 13, 2013 at 5:04 pm
October 13, 2013 at 7:59 pm
It wasn’t DBZ, but Dragonball. Master Roshi rides on “Baby Gamera’s” in one of his first appearances. I think it was when he puts the fire out on Ox King’s mountain, but I may be off the mark on that.
October 14, 2013 at 10:50 am
Taterbob is correct. Master Roshi can’t use the Flying Nimbus because he’s not pure of heart so he has to jump on Baby Gamera to get to Fire Mountain to save Ox King in episode 8.
May 24, 2014 at 7:03 pm
What, DBZ? JOKE/ or /for real?
July 5, 2014 at 4:34 pm
Well, of course it wasn’t called Gamera in there, but the creature appearance really resembled Gamera, only the smaller kind. Check it out for yourself for that scene.
July 31, 2014 at 9:37 pm
that was pretty cool, but i think master Roshi pronounced his name differently. i think he called him “Gamalar”
October 12, 2013 at 4:07 am
cool Gamera nice.
October 12, 2013 at 4:22 am
Heisei era Gamera, best kaiju ever!
October 12, 2013 at 4:31 am
er… to tune the weeaboo down a tad, that means the 1990’s rebooted series.
October 12, 2013 at 4:47 am
1. “Weeaboo” is an impossibly retarded term. 2. Classic Gamera is way cooler than “super serious” 90s Gamera. 3. Godzilla is the greatest Kaiju of all time.
October 12, 2013 at 4:36 am
finally a Gamera review, i loved this mutha fucker as a kid
October 12, 2013 at 4:40 am
Wow, Gamera. This is one original beast, yeah the first movie might not be a big hit but i love it has the normal basic stuff that every monster movie has, but they had the balls to give all original ideas there from the start. Even with making it a sort of hero enough for a kid to go against everyone for Gamera’s sake. Genius. Nobody loved Gojira in the first movie, that piece was a grim one, so i like they didn’t choose the same route here.
October 12, 2013 at 4:46 am
THANK YOU JAMES! I had all the faith in the world in you, that you’d eventually do the classic Gamera series, and now you are. You, sir, have made my October.
October 12, 2013 at 12:52 pm
Atleast you can finally quit spamming every video begging for your poor mans Godzilla reviews
October 12, 2013 at 4:49 am
Wait? No The Frankenstein Monsters from 1973? Oh well, Gamera will be a fun watch!
October 12, 2013 at 5:23 am
The kid who talks about the VCR tracking reminds me of Duane. XD
October 12, 2013 at 5:51 am
“If there’s Martians there, they’re in for a surprise” cracked me up ^^
October 12, 2013 at 6:00 am
Bravo James, Bravo! this was an truly unexpected but highly welcome surprise. and in my opinion, this is by far the best episode of Monster Madness. the whole fart as fuel quote had me cracking up. it’s awesome. on a scale of 1 to 10, this review ranks up at 11. man, I can’t wait to see more.
October 12, 2013 at 6:48 am
How they kept the trajectory to Mars with Gamera tumbling around?
Oh, he is flying, ok.
October 12, 2013 at 7:05 am
That tracking tip was hilarious. Glad you added it, James. Also, i owned quite a few Go-Bots. Pretty sure they must’ve been cheap cause that’s why my family would’ve bought them for me. Turbo was my first, and I had about 15 of the submarine guy. And Leader-One, of course, the poor man’s Optimus Prime!
October 12, 2013 at 8:46 am
Yep–it was only Go-Bots for me, too. Transformers were too expensive. Even then, I only had a few Go-Bots. haha “Leader One.” Forgot about him.
October 12, 2013 at 12:09 pm
Yeah, I had a small box in my toy closet with a few Transformers in it, next to a large tin container that held a HUGE collection of GoBots. Turbo was my first too, then I got a couple other ones that I think were named Scratch and Stinger. Then I started getting into the show, and then for my birthday my parents got me Scooter, Cy-Kill and Cop-Tur. And my collection just took off from there.
October 12, 2013 at 8:10 am
That tracking kid….you know ur stuff dude. Real nice
October 12, 2013 at 8:58 am
Awwww yeaaaahhh! For a while there, I thought it was just going to be classic movie monsters, so it’s awesome that you’re mixing it up with some good ol’ Kaiju goodness. Thanks for making another fantastic Monster Madness, it’s part of what makes October awesome!
October 12, 2013 at 9:07 am
Yep Goreyo’s Rotten and they called him flying gamera,… he spun so much it made Roshi sick. P.S. check out this easy fix if you have a broken NES!
October 12, 2013 at 9:13 am
It’s funny to hear James say “Ever since I did the Godzilla-thon, I’ve been getting a ton of requests to do the Gamera series”. So he does the Gamera series because he had a ton of requests to do so, yet it is obvious he is getting a ton of requests for the Friday the 13th series over the years and he’s ignored them…mind-boggling!
Keep up the good work though James!

October 12, 2013 at 4:57 pm
Awesome! Now if you could do the sequels in the series for Monster Madness, it would really make this Monster Madness epic…
2 movies a review for Friday the 13th fits into your series-a-week philosophy…
Keep up the good work James!
October 12, 2013 at 9:24 am
October 12, 2013 at 9:32 am
Awesome! I’m loving these reviews!!!
October 12, 2013 at 9:46 am
I understand this is Monster Madness, but I don’t really think Gamera fits in with the Halloween theme. It’s a monster, but not a Halloween monster!
October 12, 2013 at 9:50 am
I did not expect Gamera at all. I totally thought he was gonna do Friday the 13th.
October 12, 2013 at 9:51 am
I had no idea there were Gamera sequels. Definitely looking forward to the reviews, man.
October 12, 2013 at 10:48 am
Hells yes!!! Ive been waiting for a long time to see James review the Gamera series.
October 12, 2013 at 11:36 am
Yeah, I had a lot of those “Just For Kids” videos when I was young.
October 12, 2013 at 11:40 am
Ever since your Godzillathon I’ve been waiting for this. Awesome.
October 12, 2013 at 11:41 am
I thought Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn woke up giant monsters.
October 12, 2013 at 11:52 am
You should do Kaiju-a-Thon. Basically covering the big monster genre. A good example of movies for that list (If it ever exist) is Mothra or Rodan. Heck add Pacific Rim if ya reach the 2000s part!
October 12, 2013 at 12:19 pm
you are the master of godzilla/gamera reviews. you can tell you are passionate about them. keep it up. keep doing what you love.
October 12, 2013 at 12:37 pm
Nicely done James!
Like you said, this had to come eventually. 🙂
October 12, 2013 at 12:59 pm
I registered just I could comment. James, I fucking love you man! So glad you’re doing Gamera! Love Monster Madness!
October 12, 2013 at 1:21 pm
Ohhhh! Gamera! More kaiju-reviews for the people!
October 12, 2013 at 1:39 pm
Great, but I was kinda expecting something like Gamera. Please, please do Hellraiser and the sequels. It is after all one of the most legendary horror movies with a bunch of shitty sequels. You seem to avoid doing it.
This is the best birthday present ever, thank you James! :3
October 12, 2013 at 2:21 pm
October 12, 2013 at 3:32 pm
Powered by farts… Yeah, Chemical Propulsion! Wonder if Superman flies the same way? 😉
October 12, 2013 at 3:37 pm
Why can’t Inspector Gadget explain to me how to use the tracking on my VCR?
October 12, 2013 at 4:38 pm
Gamera is very neat
Gamera is filled with meat
I believe in Gamera!
October 12, 2013 at 4:48 pm
P.S. James, I cared about GoBots. In fact, as a kid, I liked them better than Transformers. *shrugs*
October 12, 2013 at 5:04 pm
I really enjoy learning about all that nostalgic stuff from you, cheesy and classy.
Did you ever think about doing a Seqel-A-Thon about Snix? That would be awesome…
October 12, 2013 at 5:50 pm
I’ve watched the Mystery Science Theater 3000 version of Gamera.
It cracked me up!
October 12, 2013 at 6:03 pm
Gamera tastes really sweet!
Gamera is turtle meat!
You’ve been eating Gamera!
October 12, 2013 at 6:34 pm
I love the Gamera movies, after seeing the MST3K versions as a kid, I had to watch all the movies, so I rented them from BlockBuster at the time, and will have to look for the ShoutFactor DVD collection, and the Reboot. 🙂 Good Work James!!
October 12, 2013 at 7:26 pm
My first exposure to Gamera was through MST3K… I was so glad that Shout! Factory was not only able to release those episodes, but the original movies as well. Love these movies!
October 12, 2013 at 7:29 pm
How many Gamera Movies are there? I’d like to finish with a series that is actually scary..
October 12, 2013 at 7:38 pm
“Gamera. Gamera. Gamera is really neat, Gamera is filled with meat, we’ve been eating Gamera! Shell, Teeth, Eyes, Flames, Claws, Breath, Scales, Fun.”
October 12, 2013 at 8:43 pm
Excellent review man, an hey dont forget to adjust your fucking tracking kids lol ohhhh VHS how do i miss the
October 12, 2013 at 9:38 pm
Oh sweet baby jesus I totally forgot about the Gamera series. This is going to be a great week.
October 12, 2013 at 10:06 pm
Gamera uses farts LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
October 12, 2013 at 10:48 pm
This is one of the few movies on MST3K that is actually pretty decent.
October 13, 2013 at 12:01 am
Sp-Jesus ITS A TRAP!
October 13, 2013 at 12:54 am
I will always prefer Godzilla to Gamera, but Gamera’s reboots of the 90’s were pretty cool. I’ve actually been watching these Gamera films the last few weeks; however, they are the MST3K episodes.
October 13, 2013 at 1:17 am
October 13, 2013 at 5:11 am
I can’t begin to describe how excited I am for this. If only you could have seen my reaction when I saw the thumbnail of Gamera’s picture. I honestly have always found the “traditional” Universal/Hammer monsters kind of boring, but Gamera…that’s my jam right there. This is almost like a mini sequel to Godzillathon, which is still my favorite Monster Madness. I’m still holding out hope that Toho resurrects both the Godzilla and Gamera franchises with a movie where they fight each other. We’ve already had King Kong vs. Godzilla, Freddy vs. Jason (vs. Ash), Alien vs. Predator, and even a (lame) Marvel vs. DC, so what else is left?
If this Sequel-a-thon ends strong with Friday the 13th, you will have made my month.
October 13, 2013 at 11:57 am
Unfortunately, James won’t be doing the Friday the 13th series…he says there are too many of them and it would take up too much of the month…despite the opportunity to do 2 films a review and condense the series into one week…
October 14, 2013 at 3:55 am
That really bites. We’ve had all the other major franchises now, so it’s unfortunate that Jason isn’t getting his due. Oh well, it’s free entertainment, and James and Mike are workhorses, so I won’t harp on it.
October 13, 2013 at 8:37 am
5:36: “What the fuck?” My thoughts exactly.
October 13, 2013 at 5:32 pm
I still say he looks like godzilla with a backpack
October 13, 2013 at 6:22 pm
I didn’t realize there were so many variations on Gamera. I originally saw most of the Gamera movies through Mystery Science Theater 3000 which must have used a version that cut out the blank credit sequence.
October 14, 2013 at 3:52 am
MST3K edits out a lot for the sake of time. In Gamera vs. Barugon, they cut out their entire first fight, and some of their rematch.
October 13, 2013 at 11:36 pm
I remember that kid from the VHS tape! I can not remember what it was that I owned with him on it though. We used to make fun of him every time.
October 14, 2013 at 12:31 pm
you should do full reviews on the 90s Gamera movies cause they are the best out of all the Gamera movies.
October 14, 2013 at 6:31 pm
Nice review, James. I’d like to think that Gamer is a little more than a poor man’s Godzilla, myself, heh. Tracking kid was hilarious! And yes, Godzilla is realistic compared to him, haha. Launch him into space! NICE! How exactly did they get him to stand in just the right area, anyway? 😀
October 16, 2013 at 1:55 am
Thanks James for such a lovely surprise. With last year being a contrast between 2 horror icons of the classic era, and 2 of the modern era, felt this year would also carry some type of theme. Such as re-animated corpses, with The Mummy and Frankenstein being placed. But no, GAMERA! Way to keep us on our toes, Mr. Rolfe.
October 17, 2013 at 7:09 pm
“Just like Toshio’s mom” Laughed my ass off at this. Funniest line I’ve ever heard James say outside of the Nerd rants.
October 18, 2013 at 4:58 am
Just as a comment about the Just for Kids videos, I have one from when I was a kid and I enjoy the introduction. I am not saying that in a defensive way, just glad you mentioned it was there. It’s on Youtube if anybody is curious about seeing the entire clip.
Also, at the end they played commercials for other cartoons on it. I always watched the hour long cartoon, and then the previews at the end. The previews were always a highlight of the video. They were cartoons I never watched before, Canadian cartoons. I think if I saw them at a thrift store I would buy them just because some look neat.
October 18, 2013 at 6:00 am
wow i want to see gamera
October 18, 2013 at 7:58 pm
They send also the hulk in outer space and look what hapent to them,at least gamera spared them by saving their asses all the time. Some times i wonder if we deserve in the movies saved even by a monster.
October 28, 2013 at 1:38 am
Gamera! Yes Gamera! Gamera is really neat! Gamera is full of meat! We love chasing Gamera!
November 2, 2013 at 4:15 pm
Gamera is my 2nd favorite big monster, only behind Godzilla 😀 Great review james, looking forward to the rest
November 11, 2013 at 2:54 am
You should do a Gamerathon!
January 16, 2014 at 8:14 pm
in an original episode of Dragon Ball
Roshi calls for the BABY GAMELA
October 8, 2014 at 3:27 pm

May 6, 2016 at 4:51 am
Powered by farts you say!?!
June 17, 2016 at 4:43 pm
