Ah, yeah! Look at me now!
Lol, you should’ve played the lotto with those numbers
June 30, 2013 at 1:00 am
haha, wow that looks terrible.
June 30, 2013 at 1:25 am
That was hilarious! It reminded me of the Ouji Board when you could just scare your friends or when your friend was Wiccan and you waited to see if they could really cast a spell.
Classic… except most of the cards felt like they were speaking to me directly… O.O
June 30, 2013 at 1:27 am
I bought this game a couple years back out of curiosity. I had the exact same experience: pop it in the NES, played for five minutes, shook my head, and put it on the shelf. If you want to know what playing this game is like, squint your eyes, tilt your head and say “wha….huh?…”. try to remember a time you were really disappointed in something.
June 30, 2013 at 1:29 am
Oh, and great video guys!
June 30, 2013 at 1:48 am
I was kind of pissed because I wasn’t old enough to play this. I went to the fair and found the machine called Zoltar, and I thought it was interactive, so I wished I was Big. Anyway, nothing happened, I just got a card that said “Your wish is granted.” So yeah, I feel your pain, anyway, I’m gonna go to bed with this stupid Zoltar ticket in my pocket. Hopefully tomorrow is less of a drag.

I foresee that you are going to get the girl, a nice job in a toy company and will play a giant piano with the ceo. Later on you will miss being a kid, so lesson learned.
Now who is up for a round of Cavern of the Evil Wizard?
June 30, 2013 at 1:54 am
As kid, TABOO was one of those games I saw in stores or when I was renting at Blockbuster. I’d always wonder what it was about, I’d look at the back of the back and think, meh. So I never played or even bothered to find out what it was about and now that I see what it was, thank God I avoided it.
June 30, 2013 at 2:08 am
This thing is the weirdest thing I seen so far. Maybe the makers sould went with Black Jack and Poker.
June 30, 2013 at 2:22 am
This looks worse than the Tell Tale Jurassic Park game.
June 30, 2013 at 2:33 am
TABOO?? MORE LIKE MISS CLEO TOOK A DIRTY SHIT AND THIS THING CAME OUT
June 30, 2013 at 6:30 am
Drats i forgot about this game. Never played it either. Thanks for reminding me! LOL
June 30, 2013 at 7:02 am
Alright another James & Mike Play YES!!
June 30, 2013 at 7:10 am
What the fuck was that lmfaoooo……..
I WOULD HAVE SUED THE FUCKING COMPANY WHO MADE THIS GAME TO GET MY FUCKING MONEY BACK AN WASTING MY FUCKING TIME THATS FUCKING CRAZY LOL
June 30, 2013 at 8:39 am
This thing isn’t even a game, what were they thinking when they made this game?
June 30, 2013 at 9:34 am
Nice video there. Btw, the way the light is set sure gives an interesting shadow on James’ face. Looks like he’s got a Vulcan frown going there. 🙂
June 30, 2013 at 10:30 am
Wow. This game really needed to be made. Friggin Tarot cards. Haha. What a waste. “I see shitty games. They don’t even know they’re shitty!” 😀
June 30, 2013 at 11:04 am
I had this game as a kid! It scared the hell out of me. I didn’t really care that it was only a 5 minute game. I don’t think I could play it for any longer. I’d shit my pants.
June 30, 2013 at 1:53 pm
This so-called “game” is a waste of good Nintendo brand plastic. It’s like the sole purpose of this game is to waste your time. Literally. The opening screen James tried to read even said at the bottom, “Taboo: The Time Machine on Nintendo!”
Yeah, only it’s one of those time machines where you can only go forwards through time, and never get those hours back. It’s Taboo Doo-doo on NES. Enjoy, confused white teenagers!
June 30, 2013 at 2:46 pm
This is Rare when they relased like a bajillion games every year. There must be a story behind why this game exist, like: there was 15 days of nothing to developer in Rare LTD departments and one guy, who was really into the mystycal and the mysterious, decided to develop the game. One day Tradewest saw the game and they were really excited for it. The rest is all known to man.
June 30, 2013 at 3:16 pm
my friends and i played this while on acid once. that screen, was amazing.
June 30, 2013 at 3:36 pm
Well, when you mentioned it in “How the Nerd Stole Christmas,” I checked this “game” out as a rom, and the manual kinda scared me away, and I almost regretted not getting it. Now that I’ve seen it, I no longer regret my choice 🙂
June 30, 2013 at 4:05 pm
In case you want to do a C64 Let’s Play, you should play some good games for once.
I can highly recommend these (of course there are more really good games on C64):
Turrican (makes Contra look like crap, but has no 2 Player option)
Cosmic Causeway (you can’t do that on NES)
Gianna Sisters (Mario Bros Spoof, but good game)
Last Ninja series (I never played it but everyone keeps telling me it’s good. The music kicks ass anyway!)
Grand Prix Circuit (used to play the PC version as a kid, but on C64 everything’s a little better except for the music which makes you wanna headbang and play air guitar. And for the load times you get a progress bar.)
Wizard of Wor (yeah I know it’s on Atari, but this is one of the best 2 Player games still. You should do a “Let’s Play Wizard of Wor” on all systems this game came out, cause this game alone would make an excellent James&Mike Play episode.)
You should try Bubble Bobble for comparison. The music is, I’m sorry, a little more annoying than the NES version, the popup points are gone, but everything’s better animated, especially the death scenes.
Just don’t let the image persist that the C64 is a “piece of shit”. It’s the best computer of all time.
June 30, 2013 at 5:10 pm
I’d like to do J&MP: C64. But I’d really like to find a copy of Lazy Jones if we were to do that. I remember that game more then any other C64 game, so I’d want to include it.
But. . . but. . . the first couple of cards were accurate. Am I the only one who noticed? You’re curent situation is luxury and comfort – well yeah! You’re chilling in a air conditioned room playing video games. That’s spot on!
And the obstacle at present – realization of desires and goals? Yes! You are trying to realize your desire to play the game, and know how to do it. That’s what you want, it’s your goal. This was accurate!
That being said, it’s tarot cards. Theyre always accurate, and the trick is taht they are so vague they can usually be “forced” into making sense if you try hard enough. And statistically, there will always be a few cards in a draw that just dont make sense at all. That’s the magic, they make you look at things from another angle or perspective to make it make sense, which is a beneficial exercise when solving any problem. Whether you use magical cards or not.
July 5, 2013 at 4:02 pm
Exactly what i thought! and you’re right!
June 30, 2013 at 5:41 pm
Birthday sex? I never had those before ^_^
June 30, 2013 at 5:44 pm
I agree, Taboo is really dumb. I’ve heard of it before but never tried it till I saw your video. I say screw Taboo and do Shadowgate instead. I say watching James & Mike Play: Shadowgate would be pretty awesome! 🙂
June 30, 2013 at 6:06 pm
Like your “James & Mike play” video’s, but would be cool to see some more realtime playthru’s like you did with Super C!
It could be Super Mario: The Lost Levels, Castlevania on NES or another of the Contra games! 🙂
Anyway, keep up the good work! 😉
June 30, 2013 at 6:49 pm
Wow is just a very shitty tarot reader… I know having free readers in flash based programs was not going to happen for a long time after this “game” came out but this cartridge is just lazy xD XD
June 30, 2013 at 10:50 pm
Short but funny James and Mike play episode. I would feel sorry for anyone who bought this when they were young, but the writing was on the wall that it would be horrible!
June 30, 2013 at 11:08 pm
I remember this dumb game it was so dumb my sister tried to convince our fourth grade teacher to play this game she borrowed but never even manage to play it ,trust me she’s better off not playing this game at all.
June 30, 2013 at 11:23 pm
You guys were way too hard on this game. Read the manual!
June 30, 2013 at 11:57 pm
The music sounds similar to the music in the Wizards and Warriors games on the NES.
July 2, 2013 at 5:07 pm
i have notice that too… this game has the same tones as Wizard and Warriors.. and if i remember… all Konami Games has de same tones and style of music. as Capcom or RARE…. and RARE have a Huge Fun games and Strange. i have RC-pro-am, W&warriors and has de same tones of music..
July 1, 2013 at 12:33 am
Great Video, guys!
I played this while I was a kid. The idea of play something that I shouldn’t was awesome and scary…until I didn’t understood a single thing about this…game? XD
July 1, 2013 at 2:42 am
Nice Star Trek: The Voyage Home reference!
July 1, 2013 at 10:03 am
It does have pretty amazing music, though.
July 1, 2013 at 10:24 am
Thanks for the video! I love the random references thrown in. “California!” was funny. Are the bad games you play as a team less painful because you play them together?
July 1, 2013 at 12:57 pm
“Hello Computer. Computer, Hello!” It took me a while to realize the screen didn’t say “birthday sex” I got very excited…
July 1, 2013 at 1:46 pm
“I see shitty games”
totally AVGN shirt material.
July 1, 2013 at 1:55 pm
My god, that flushing cards screen… I have yet to see an epilepsy-inducing screen that powerful. As James would probably say : what were they thinking ? Even the tenth of the amount of flashing squares that screen has is enough to trigger a big epilepsy ceisure or worse, were they now aware of the illness at the time ? I’m sure they were…
July 1, 2013 at 4:39 pm
I love these videos!! keep up the hard work. Who created the James and Mike graphic opening, I love that, … Also I disagree with the movie the sixth sense being overrated. That is an awesome movie
July 1, 2013 at 4:52 pm
Nice Star Trek IV reference by Mike there.
July 1, 2013 at 4:56 pm
i have a question: how the fuck was this made by rare, of all developers.
July 2, 2013 at 12:05 am
Man, Taboo should have had that paper future thing that school kids play with, you know, the thing that looks like grub mandibles? Do kids even still do that? Anyway, my fortune telling game would have one of those. And it would ask all sorts of inappropriate shit, like “Would you rather make out with your grandmother (Louisville rules) or hold your principal’s pingas for ten tense, throbbing minutes?” And it would use your answers to determine the time and nature of your life’s most egregious failing, as well as the degree of humiliation you will face at the moment of your death. Sample reading: “After a misguided experiment with bestiality on your 32nd birthday, your life descends into a death=spiral of drugs, murder and creative coprophagy. Your death is 99.5% degrading, and may involve high doses of donkey schlong.”
July 2, 2013 at 3:29 am
At 1:35: love the reference to the first episode of “The IT Crowd”. What a great fucking show.
July 2, 2013 at 5:12 pm
I saw this Video and i already download the ROM version.. and it’s kinda scary and make thing in limbo when the “game” over…Hey Mike and James… Why don’t you guys do a Review about the Sound and music characteristics from Konami, RARE, and Capcom. each of these companies has the distinctive music of their own.
July 2, 2013 at 8:53 pm
4:38 …. Birthday Sex, Birthday Sex… is this where the song came from?
July 7, 2013 at 1:06 am
July 2, 2013 at 9:00 pm
I can’t believe this game is made by Rare. I checked, and they’ve also done a nightmare on elm street for nes :-/ jeez, what a letdown!
July 4, 2013 at 10:38 am
This was never a game that you play like super mario or contra. It’s more of an entertainment software. An ouija board game isn’t a game at all, it’s more or less an entertainment board game that you play with a bunch of other people to kill time or for fantasy play.
July 5, 2013 at 3:47 pm
Mike said it best. I’d be majorly PISSED as a kid if I bought this. Imagine being a kid, saving your allowance to be able to buy a brand new NES game. You go to the store and see all kinds of cool games but some eerie twist of fate caused you to buy Taboo. You get home and pop this bad boy in and instantly start to cry. What a piece of shit.
July 7, 2013 at 1:01 am
There are free tarot readings online. So don’t pay a “psychic” money.
July 7, 2013 at 1:05 am
Wut dafuq is this sthit??
July 7, 2013 at 10:44 am
There are 2 good James and Mike play videos on Homebrews, would be great if sometime in future they touched “Mortal Kombat 3 – Special 56 peoples” and other unlicensed fighting game ports to NES.
July 7, 2013 at 10:54 pm
It’s TAROT CARDS!!.. not TARO
July 8, 2013 at 4:36 am
i love James and Mike play
do you think you could do more Mario games for the N64 of NES
July 21, 2013 at 12:51 pm
I remember renting that game when I was 11 and getting so pissed. Back then I’d rent a game on a friday night and play it all night. This game lasted 6 minutes. Only that long because I figured I was missing something, but no that’s the entire game.
July 22, 2013 at 4:00 pm
‘The Sixth Sense’ was the only movie I ever liked thoroughly by M. Night. ‘Signs’ was fun to watch until the ending.
About the this ”Taboo” game, Lol, its 4 minute review seemed perfect for this kind of game. I couldn’t see it be any longer than that
August 1, 2013 at 12:35 am
You certainly don’t need a sixth sense to tell that this game is a shitload of fuck.
October 11, 2013 at 5:50 pm
I’m using this mother fucker to pick my next Lotto numbers!
December 7, 2013 at 5:36 am
I can’t believe he asked “how do you play?”
It’s supposed to be a fortune telling game, not like siri on your iphone lol..
