This first shit is sooo lame. Do you really think James and Mike want to see this? β€œGreat video and your childhood memory is fine so at least you told them something, but did they really need to read that extra word “first”? They may have saw “first” first and said screw this, I’m not reading the next words. Just think next time any of you say first and second they don’t like that. Is that what you want? Everybody else- when we see people doing this lame ass first and second shit we can all say to ourselves there goes two people that enjoy upsetting James and Mike.

The ‘ FIRST! ‘ Shit needs its own You Know What’s Bullshit video.

      • January 6, 2014 at 4:09 am

Do you really think they want to hear you complain about what people say on his website? You commenting on his post is more childish then yours. Just saying no disrespect.

  • June 6, 2013 at 1:54 am

I use to love playing this game with my dad as a kid.

  • job_43

    June 6, 2013 at 2:06 am

These games segmants you guys play are pretty dope. In a couple videos Mike looked pretty blazed. Was he or am I imagining things. Can you guys let us see the end of the games at completion and have you ever finished Gun Smoke. I got to the end and couldn’t finish it. I always wondered what that game looked like at the end.

  • June 6, 2013 at 2:17 am

Have you guys made a video about Bubble Bobble yet?

Hey, might be fast forwarding to the snes era here, but you guys should make a video playing Mortal Kombat 1 2 or 3. I’d like to see that! Sorry not familiar with many original nes games. 90s kid here.

  • June 6, 2013 at 2:28 am

Aahahahahah, the wind! This are the classic excuses we ever make when playing co-op to avoid your companion’s anger.
    Long live gaming excuses.

Snake, Rattle, N’ Roll was one of the first NES games I owned as a kid. The last couple stages of the game, where everything is icy and slippery, are a nightmare to get through. You pretty much have to make it through the game without dying once until you reach those stages, because you are going to need EVERY life you have saved up just to get past them.

    June 6, 2013 at 3:24 am

One of the best NES soundtracks. Love this game.

  • June 6, 2013 at 3:50 am

this is bullshit. 6 minutes? I want more.

  • darksideofdonny

    June 6, 2013 at 4:36 am

    June 6, 2013 at 8:28 am

I loved this game as a kid, I played it a lot with friends. Guys when u upload videos like that where you play some random game – it just made my day like today, it’s so fun to watch. The only down-fall here is that they must be a little longer then that. So yes, it’s so fun to watch this, you make everyone happy with those type of videos, not to mention the AVGN episodes : ] keep up the good work, we’re all watching with pleasure !

  • xenxander

    June 6, 2013 at 8:39 am

On the very first stage, if you rush ahead very fast, you might get the space ship. It’s a little shuttle, looking similar to the shuttle in SMB 2 that you pluck out of the ground on the ice world.
anyway, attack it with your tongue before it takes off, and it warps you ahead several stages. It’s a little secret no one really touches base on :p

  • June 6, 2013 at 8:52 am

This game was pretty cool, but you guys are right, the controls FUCKING SUCK. It’s not the isometric “3D” graphics that’s the problem, its the goddamned controls.

  • AbsoluteDeicide

    June 6, 2013 at 9:31 am

That music reminds me of “Big Time Operator” by The Dead Milkmen. I was just listening to that on my ride home like ten minutes before I watched the video. Wierd.

  • June 6, 2013 at 10:11 am

Great video guys. These are becoming my favorite videos. Especially with the death of “Couch Co-op”. It’s great to see old games are just as fun no matter what age we get.

  • natedog

    June 6, 2013 at 10:19 am

      June 6, 2013 at 11:56 am

    June 6, 2013 at 1:01 pm

That’s freakin’ crazy that you guys just did this video. Just last week, my brother and I played this game on my hacked WII on an emulator (FCE Ultra). Furthermore, what’s even more insane, is that afterwards, we played Marble Madness which Mike referenced in the clip.

  • christburner

    June 6, 2013 at 2:26 pm

thats cool…. i know James knows everyone is waiting for the release of the AVGN movie. its nice to see he cares so much he spends most his time recording him and his friend playing games and not finishing the movie. πŸ˜‰ (seriously enjoying these, thanks for all the entertainment all these years)

    June 6, 2013 at 7:16 pm

This is one of the games that my parents got me for christmas. It was funny how you would randomly get games that were not on your christmas list when your list was half games. Were they throwing darts at the toy store? I remember getting this and not not knowing anything about it, even though I was a religious Nintendo Power reader. Good thing that I was excited about any Nintendo game at the time. This is one that I really liked to play eben though I probably did not beat it until I cheated with that game genie.

  • June 6, 2013 at 7:38 pm

only 6 minutes? wtf? please post another unedited video! the contra video was sooooo great!

  • erik37

  • Harley Jackson

    June 6, 2013 at 10:29 pm

The song at 5:16 kinda reminds me of the 3rd verse from “Time Warp” from “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” Awesomeness.

  • Sesquipedal

    June 6, 2013 at 10:52 pm

    That game looks great!
Is it by the same developers as Marble Madness?
The death noise it almost the exact same as the Marble Madness death noise.
Down to the pitch, but just a bit longer if I remember correctly.

  • Jcr3ws

    June 6, 2013 at 10:54 pm

haha, my wife and I were playing some retro two player the other day and this was one of the games I brought out awesome.
Although she didnt dig the controls neither.

AMazing choice!I loved this game since i was a child! i remember i hated the last stage of Ice, but its Rare at its finest. Im so close to complete all the NES / 64 rare game collection!

  • marc_lawson

    June 7, 2013 at 3:32 pm

Please make more James & Mike Play videos. I hope their loose, improvised format makes them easy to film because your fans love these! I love the obscure games too! Keep these coming!

  • June 7, 2013 at 5:29 pm

On the last stage… wait just before the timer is up and then go into the UFO.

  • Another Guy Named James

    June 7, 2013 at 8:46 pm

To think something so simple would be one of Rare’s first game.

Yeah. This game was made by Rare. Y’know, that company who make games with warrior frogs, monkeys wearning neckties and alcoholic raccoons? You probably never heard of ’em…

I think they went to work for SEGA or something…

  • June 7, 2013 at 11:36 pm

I feel like they are high when they do these videos.

    • zengie

      June 9, 2013 at 1:37 am

      You’re not the only one..

      • June 9, 2013 at 2:25 am

  • rabidchild

    June 8, 2013 at 1:06 am

  • Jordanmercereau

    June 8, 2013 at 1:25 am

These videos are absolutely atrocious, I’d rather watch grass grow than watch you two play games with no script. Please stop these awful videos and make nerd videos or nothing.

    • zengie

      June 9, 2013 at 1:36 am

Then go and watch the grass you ungrateful grasswatcher.

    • June 9, 2013 at 2:27 am

go suck a pig clitoris. it’s not like you’re paying for any of this. If you don’t like it then FUCK OFF and try and do better yourself you anal wart

  • Harley Jackson

    June 8, 2013 at 8:20 pm

I have a suggestion: Conker’s Bad Fur Day for Nintendo 64. It’s a great game! It’s set up to look like the typical E-rated N64 game, what with its animal mascot & colorful, fun levels, but once you start playing, you immediately realize just why it’s rated M for mature.

  • Seth Ganier

    June 8, 2013 at 9:39 pm

I used to love this game. I played it once again as an adult… and goodness, did I realize how ignorant as a child I was, to think that the end was somewhere close by. Holy shit in my ass.

  • June 9, 2013 at 1:13 am

heard of this game but never seen it played it or even seen the cover

Hey, James, you should do AVP for SNES!

  • Ben_from_G-town

    June 9, 2013 at 6:47 am

What a strange game. This one is new to me. You actually play as snakes! Probably the only other game where you do that is Snake? “Every woman’s greatest fantasy!” Indeed! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  • June 9, 2013 at 11:50 am

That was one hilarious video! Never played or even heard of that game. Very entertaining! Thanks guys!

  • Rubizon

    June 9, 2013 at 2:08 pm

James & Mike play movies are so nice to watch. Thank you guys for giving the fans such wonderfull retro-feelings. Keep up the good work, thank you again! … Thanks!

  • Zayith

    June 9, 2013 at 4:40 pm

For some reason, just seeing this name and picture of the game on the front page is pissing me off. Just by the dangling eyes, happy expression and being a snake like bean taunting me saying “hey you, yeah you! Fuck you!”. I can’t wait for a new video of any sorts to come out to get this taunting, evil snake out of the front page.

  • Madman12

    June 9, 2013 at 7:42 pm

Lol hahahahaha at 2:37 James “I gotta eat these Balls” good gameplay funny has hell keep them coming hope to see more of them I never did play that game at all so I will have to check it out

  • Lukas Sprehn

    June 10, 2013 at 8:40 am

This game need to be remade in HD. Perhaps with some 3D graphics, or it could also be 2D like the original.

  • Lukas Sprehn

    June 10, 2013 at 8:41 am

James and Mike, you should try out The Neverhood, Skullmonkeys or Earthworm Jim. I’m a big fan of TenNapel and his graphic novels, and games as well. The games have awesome designs and art direction, specially The Neverhood, which is a clay animation point and click adventure video game that he made with his animator pals for Dreamworks, and it has an awesome soundtrack. They’re making a new similar game through Kickstarter now called Armikrog.

  • June 10, 2013 at 1:05 pm

    James..Killer instinct is back πŸ˜€

  • elvnsword

    June 10, 2013 at 3:00 pm

    I LOVED this game as a kid…
The controls reversing on you Mike, that is due to a “powerup” listed in the manual as “The Reverse”

yea I didn’t find it to helpful either…

  • mrgerrit

    June 10, 2013 at 3:39 pm

Wasn’t it with this game that, when you entered the first stage and rushed to the end then, their would be a rocket that would take you to the last stage. Awesome game.

  • Zombiesex

    June 11, 2013 at 4:46 am

Haha. Mike hit a “power up” that caused his D-pad to reverse. Its a bit hard to dodge also. He just didnt realize he hit it and then blamed poor controls. The controls are certainly odd..kinda like playing marble madness on the *45

  • Digger318

    June 12, 2013 at 4:02 pm

I played the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) Version of this Game many many many (many) times, everything about the Genesis Version is better (no offense, the Genesis just wins this time) you should give it a try.

  • Stanofspace

    June 13, 2013 at 5:44 am

I only had the gameboy version, that was pretty cool.

  • June 14, 2013 at 12:27 am

    This game is hard.

  • June 14, 2013 at 4:54 am

I was pretty young when this game came out. I think my friend and I got as far as the snow level but could never finish. Fuck I hated this game in the end, it was too hard because of the shitty controls.

Dear James and Mike (or as I like to say Nerd & Turd), keep up the good work! Also I have I fun idea foe an AVGN episode – product mascots. Like the Noid, Fido Dido, Chester Cheetah, etc.
    with love,

  • Devlin Anderson

    March 20, 2014 at 11:58 pm

Suprised nobody here noticed that when he cued the music that he liked it was the same Little Richard “Piano Riff Woo” from Family Guy. Lol. Also HEY JAMES AND MIKE, been a HUGE fan for about 6 or so years now, incredibly excited about the movie (If it’s still being made) and have to say I really like the James and Mike Mondays almost as much as I like the Nerd. Great series you guys keep it up!
