Turn off adblock if video doesn’t work.
Spoiler: The scariest thing is “fear itself. Horrible fear to be extreme”.
DKC music is still the best on SNES!
    Also… Second!

The shot of the mask burning in the fireplace was very visually interesting. Great way to end the movie. And that Doom music is so damn good.

    • May 12, 2013 at 8:32 pm

When will you shut the fuck up? It’s more interesting to watch an old person making snow angel on tall amount of grass then to read your shit. I can’t imagine you growing old and boring the living fuck out of people.

I like hows James always does something like throwing the mask outside or shutting it in a cabinet, then just walks away like nothing happened. And then he’s somehow always surprised when it comes back. “The mask is back? But I tossed it out the window! I thought for sure that it was gone forever!”

    • Lanlost

      May 11, 2013 at 11:22 pm

Yeah, I’m sure he feels the same way now.

Ever went back and read something you wrote in like middle school? Or even high school? I’m 28 now and.. it’s the same sort of thing.

Hell, it felt like the same thing when I was _20_ and read something I wrote when I was 18.

For me that would be old Livejournal entries from back in the 2000s. Ugh.

  • May 11, 2013 at 5:48 pm

Nice montage flashback before the title, looks like a real B-Movie trailer. Your editing got ALOT better and you can see right from the start. Also, the reveal at the start with the mask in the fridge, seems silly but feels so right and your reaction was perfect. Havent even gotten past the title yet and Im already really impressed with the progress.

The scariest thing in the world is “Fear. Fear itself in the extreme”

  • May 11, 2013 at 11:26 pm

Most polished Snix movie of them all, but I prefer the campiness of the first 4 parts. Although the stop motion and little effects you pulled were pretty impressive for 1998. Kinda sad that there’s only one more part and I can’t wait for the conclusion!

  • Lanlost

    May 11, 2013 at 11:31 pm

The most interesting thing here for me was the stop motion.

It’s weird. I almost have two James in my mind that are only connected with each other when I actually think about it in a meta way and realize I’m doing it.

It comes from YEARS of watching Cinemassacre (it’s really mind blowing to think of how long it’s been now. I always think it’s only been 2-3 years) and only knowing the grown up James we have now. But after being busy and ONLY seeing the young Jim grow up over the last 5 Snix flicks it’s almost hard for me to believe this is the same guy.

BUT, thats why I found this one so interesting. When he says he wants the AVGN movie to be an homage to no-budget films in my mind I always thought that it was weird that he would want this, but at the same time knew he had a fascination with it. Even though I had watched Cinemassacre 200 and such I really thought it was more of a fascination with film history.

But no, think about it… The classics he reviewed came from THIS era of his film making, his roots. I’m sure he DOES have a love of no-budget films because he lived it but at this point it’s just as nostalgic as his love for video games themselves.

So really, what better way to film the movie? What made me think about all of this was the stop motion scene in here.. and then the stop motion scene in the Mr. Bucket video. Obviously a HUGE leap in quality. Actually, the Mr. Bucket video is almost a spiritual successor to the Possessed Mask of Snix. Sort of the same way that BioShock is a ‘sequel’ to System Shock, or Flashback is a ‘sequel’ to Out of this World (common error).

This makes me just the more excited for the AVGN movie. It will a) be the first ‘REAL’ movie that he’s made and b) seeing ANY of his childhood/teen year flicks will really put the progression in perspective.. but seeing this series in particular is probably (James?) like a microcosm of his work growing up, in general.

    Just my two cents.

Also, the best part was the “Ok, thanks” reaction to the news of the box. Loved it and it was totally our AVGN James.

Also, while typing out snix and screwing up I just realized that ‘Zinz’ is actually ‘Xins.’ I’m sure someone else has said this. Reminds me of Qeynos/SonyEQ.

Your will and confidence to push forward and succeed is very evident in your younger self. Cool Snix video. I like this one the best.

Am I the only one who thinks this story is similar to R.L. Stine’s The Haunted Mask, which was published around the same time as this first movie and also an episode of the TV show? Still like this though because a lot of stuff is similar, especially in horror and sci-fi.

If this was released on DVD, I wonder if you’d be able to keep any of the same music or have to write new material.

To be Concluded, very Back to the Future of you. I guess the next one will be the last movie in the series then.

i don’t know if you have the time to read every comments you receive but here one: those Snix movies are cool.

  • May 12, 2013 at 3:08 pm

Good stuff, better than the last one in fact. Pretty good atmosphere but the Donkey Kong music is to recognizable but I suppose for the time it may have worked better. I have also used video game music for some shorts that I did. I used some from Second Sight by Graeme Norgate and from TimeSplitters πŸ™‚

  • May 12, 2013 at 3:30 pm

    The worst one.

    • DarthUno

      May 12, 2013 at 5:17 pm

What’s wrong with you? The first one was the worst, by far, they laughed through the whole movie, this one is taken seriously, and has an atmosphere of a more real movie…

  • May 12, 2013 at 4:00 pm

Really looking forward to the ending. Can’t be worst of Saw VII, that’s for sure.
