Henry. I can see what your saying… Cheryl`s blurb is impressive… I just got a new Honda NSX after having made $7637 this last 5 weeks and a little over 10-k lass-month. it’s definitly the nicest job I’ve had. I actually started 10-months ago and almost immediately began to earn at least $86 per/hr. I follow this great link, Kℯℙ2.ℂoℳ

First time I’ve commented, been watching for… Shit, six years? Jesus, I’m old. Keep it up man, I’ll keep tuning in.

I was really surprised when I saw this, James! I recommended an AVGN episode about this game a long while back, and it’s neat to see it here.

Lloyd Kaufman = age-progressed Bad Luck Bootsy.

    Any video of the making.

  • April 30, 2013 at 11:53 pm

Grossest, funniest, weirdest episode ever! Now to be fair, the Toxic games are not really bad ones. You and I both know that, James, but you made the videos great beyond that fact. You made my day, James. Thank you, good sir! : )

  • April 30, 2013 at 11:54 pm

Holy crap, you got Lloyd Kaufman on the show! Amazing!

  • Joker83

    April 30, 2013 at 11:56 pm

“That’ll teach you, you fucking game”
I laughed very hard! Thank you that was such a funny ending. Awesome stuff man

  • April 30, 2013 at 11:56 pm

oh my god the amount of awesomeness almost made my head explode!!!!!!!! and if im not mistaken isnt the ending a reference to the virtual boy review? “Waterworld on Virtual Boy! It’s like puking on a pile of shit!”

    • frostare

      May 1, 2013 at 12:35 am

I thought that too! But I remember hearing that phrase in another video as well.

      • diegowar

        May 1, 2013 at 11:45 am

Yep, it also refers to playing Top Gun with the Power Glove :p

  • April 30, 2013 at 11:57 pm

    Awesome video, Kaufman was hilarious!

  • buggyglint

    April 30, 2013 at 11:59 pm

I’m only in the middle of the episode and I’m laughing my ass off! This is one of the BEST episodes yet! Congrats on getting Kaufman on AVGN!

  • May 1, 2013 at 12:00 am

lol, I like your comment about the 111th episode James. I Will never stop watching that’s for sure.

  • May 1, 2013 at 12:01 am

    Truly kindred spirits

  • May 1, 2013 at 12:03 am

    Next up: Roger Corman!

  • May 1, 2013 at 12:05 am

This episode was pretty funny.Although it was kind of loose ended in the mid section, the ending made me actually laugh out loud. I thought it was going ot be another “Someone shits on a game” ending but the throwing up was the icing on the cake. That was hilarious and a tad unexpected.

  • May 1, 2013 at 12:14 am

Fuck you idiots with your random comments, if your comments don’t include the fact that he has the greatest indie filmmaker of all time sitting on the couch, then you are pathetic. This is INSANELY EPIC to have Lloyd in an AVGN episode. Great job James, you actually surprised, shocked, and delighted me, and I am a longtime fan of 8 years.

Omg, this is one of the funniest AVGN episodes of all time. I literally was in tears and couldn’t breathe at the end.

  • frostare

    May 1, 2013 at 12:26 am

Oh shit! I thought Mr. Kaufman would only agree to be interviewed and that was it. But when you said he was next to you, I instantly believed it.
Instantly, I know how far your influences reach. But still, congrats man this was great!

  • May 1, 2013 at 12:28 am

One of the best videos of AVGN!!!
    So freaking funny!
But I would like to ask if you made up a script for this episode or do you improvised the whole video??? because is so funny!!!
You’re the best Nerd, and my best wishes for Lloyd Kaufman is so cool that he does the video with you!

I dunno but it has been feeling a bit awkward for me in the last two episodes when you give your guest screen time since their style crashes with yours but still, there are moments when they genuinely make me crack

    • LittleNemoNES

      May 1, 2013 at 5:39 pm

I agree. Funny episode, no doubt, but not a fan of seeing poop and vomit on screen. I guess there HAS been an influx of younger fans lately…

    • bob jones

      May 4, 2013 at 8:57 am

I agree. The episode was still good, but the styles do clash a bit. Still, what a monumental moment in AVGN history.

    That was great James!

  • May 1, 2013 at 1:02 am

  • May 1, 2013 at 1:05 am

    Why was my comment deleted?

Personally this is probably my least favorite ep out of all of them. I don’t really like other characters copying your style. Also this was really akward to watch and for me wasn’t all that funny. If it was just James doing it that would have made it doable.

    • eva001

      May 2, 2013 at 11:34 pm

‘other characters copying your style’? You obviously don’t know anything about Lloyd Kaufman if you truly believe that was what he was doing.

  • marc_lawson

    May 1, 2013 at 1:09 am

Kaufman looks like Don Adams with Mel Brooks’ voice and the sense of humor of a middle school student in the 90s. Loved it.

  • May 1, 2013 at 2:13 am

    Rofl puke/shit combo

  • Crippen

    May 1, 2013 at 2:30 am

None of this is clever or funny. I was anticipating something that could at least keep me occupied for a few minutes, but I just got bored and annoyed at this video. “I can’t believe an old person just said that!” as a humorous sentiment lost its charm back in the 90’s.

I’d complain about the “humor” in this episode basically being a bunch of penis jokes, but I can’t even call them penis jokes. A joke has a setup and a payoff. These are just penis statements.

    • Jared LEE951

      May 1, 2013 at 9:18 am

AVGN IS CLEVER,FUNNY,POPULAR,SMART,AND ORIGINAL!! Shake yourself crippen and stay off cinemassacre!!! before hate on movies and games you haven’t seen or played you’re about 19 years old or younger I bet money on it!!!

      • Mr_Nabby

        May 1, 2013 at 1:02 pm

And YOU shouldn’t hate on someone for having an opinion.
I wasn’t really entertained by this episode either. Personally I find James Retrospective(Double Vision, CD-I) and Cinematic(Ninja Gaiden, Nintendo World Championship) episodes much more enjoyable. In those you have a entertaining story or narrative if the humor falls flat.

    • Elliot J

      May 4, 2013 at 3:04 pm

I agree. couldn’t have said it better myself. I hope James read these comments..

This was foul and gross…loved it. Perfect fit for Toxy.

Brilliant episode James and Mike. Lloyd is a natural AVGN partner no? you guys work so well as a double act. Would love to see you work with him more often.

    Put him in the film?

  • xboxchodemaster

Really Funny, I love this episode:D Lloyd is THE MAN:DD i didnt like the humor of the ikari warriors episode that much, but this one is great and a could become a classic nerd video

Great episode! Really cool to see Loyd in one of your videos again! Please do release a making of this episode, I’m gonna go ahead and guess Loyd improvises a lot and cracked you up too many times causing you to break character. Go Toxie!

    May 1, 2013 at 5:10 am

I’ve been lurking since the beginning…but this episode demands a tangible response. Some of the things the lines from that old man caught me off guard. High-lair-eous. *Slow/loud golf clap*

  • Griff

    May 1, 2013 at 5:25 am

WOW! this is crazy! Lloyd Kaufman in person! I know it’s not quite like having Brad Pitt in the room with you but still, talk about unexpected

this your version James of the time Mara Wilson showed up in a Nostalgia Critic episode

  • LicaWolf

    May 1, 2013 at 5:27 am

I’m glad to see the themesong back, and the showcase of the fanarts is awesome, I saw a couple of my favorites there (the japanese one, in which the Nerd has Boo on his shoulder. I love that one)

I guessed who the guest was going to be the moment I saw the title of the episode. Lloyd Kaufman is hilarious, he’s very quick-minded and he’s really good at improvising jokes, I think James reactions felt a little more natural than in the last episode. I liked that.

But I admit I did have some problems with the episode.

I would have liked if you explained a little more about the movie and the cartoon before going into the game (I usually enjoy the informative parts of the reviews, I think they balance out the humor), I’m not familiar with Troma and felt a little left out the joke at times.

I didn’t like the pace of the episode. There was no build up to the appearance of the guest, and as hilarious as Lloyd Kaufman was, I feel he was overwhelming at times. All very quick jokes, one after another, without any time to recover.

I had some good laughs at Lloyd Kaufman’s jokes, because he’s hysterical, and it’s really awesome that he took the time to do this cameo, but he’s so good at it, that he ended up stealing the show to the point I was left missing the Nerd.

The one problem I have with episodes with guests is that I feel James’ favors improvisation when he has a guest, but I think he’s at his best when he’s following a script (and I mean it the best way possible, I love his scripts!).

Having guests is great to break the formula once in a while, but I really hope the next episode is AVGN alone.

Either way, it was great having something special like this, specially because I know it’s a busy, stressful times for James.
    Thanks, James!

      May 1, 2013 at 8:42 pm

I agree on all the points you made. I think everyone here is a little star-struck by Kaufman. If no one knew who he was, I highly doubt many people would find this more funny than it was just tedious and irritating. I am a huge, HUGE James Rolfe fan. I’ve even met him in person. But this is the first episode that I can say I just didn’t enjoy. I definitely commend James on his willingness to experiment and keep things fresh, but this was not the right direction in my opinion. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us next though!! 😀

Jesus H Shit!! Bravo sir, Bravo

  • May 1, 2013 at 5:58 am

I can take a lot, but the last part even made me sick.

    • curiousgyorg

      May 1, 2013 at 8:50 pm

Yeah I have a crippling phobia of vomit… so I’m always disappointed when there’s puke in AVGN, cause I can’t even watch that part. The trailer for the movie made me so sad in this regard. But obviously I can’t expect James to cater to my weird phobias, so oh well. At least James does puke so over the top and fake that it’s not as frightening for me as something more realistic. Still gross though.

  • May 1, 2013 at 6:04 am

it’s three in the morning in california and i think i just woke up my roommates from laughing so hard and then coughing/gagging at the end. awesome video, it was a great surprise.

  • NegaNova

    May 1, 2013 at 6:06 am

I was so shocked to see a celebrity on your show!!
Good job man, haha, the episode wasn’t bad!
Jokes from Lloyd were a bit odd most of the time, but his body movements and expressions were really good.

  • May 1, 2013 at 6:09 am

    F*cking hilarious and epic!!

I only knew The Toxic Avengers from the videostore back when I was a kid (like 20 years ago) and I never saw the movies but it still has some nostalgia for me in a way, just because of Toxie’s image. Really loved this episode and the cameo of mr. Kaufman and what a fresh breath of air compared with the last episode…

Thanks James and again, for the 110th time, an excellent episode!

  • May 1, 2013 at 6:39 am

This is probably one of the strangest videos you’ve ever made XD
It’s a good episode tough, despite all the randomness ^^

  • Keydsimon

    May 1, 2013 at 6:42 am

    Damn !

After your interview with Lloyd, I thought the nerd would make a cameo in a Troma movie. Surprise !

Mr Kaufman is an hilarious fellow. “Used tampons” as a background made me laugh out loud. I think you both have a very similar taste in humor. That’s awesome and it fitted the video.

I find that the guest appearances in the nerd’s episodes are refreshing and original. While I do prefer the classic setup, I can appreciate this variation.

Thank you for the entertainment !

  • May 1, 2013 at 6:49 am

Didn’t like this episode very much. Lloyd Kaufman is not much of a great actor and it wasn’t much about the game itself. Like the episode more were you play just by yourself.

  • Frow

    May 1, 2013 at 7:09 am

It made my day. Great video, Cinemassacre!
I love how Lloyd Kaufman says such things with that normalcy. lol

    May 1, 2013 at 7:30 am

OK, this made me laugh. hahaha

  • May 1, 2013 at 7:32 am

Oh dear god. I was in the middle of eating my breakfast when I got to the end with the puking on a pile of shit. Grossed me out big time, but I loved the episode! I can’t believe you got Lloyd Kaufman to do an episode of AVGN. It makes me wonder if he’s watched/liked any of your other films. Hell, has he seen a rough cut of the movie?! Does he love it?! My hat is off to you, James. You’ve managed to outdo yourself, yet again! Congratulations on your hundred-and-eleventieth episode!!

ABOUT TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved the show rented this turd and was heartbroken. My weekend lost. Unless I could make the game not work and complain to my mom and have her take me to exchange it. So I took a screw driver to the chip then dunk it in the toilet. Perfect it didn’t work on my NES. We go to the store they try it on their demo NES and the MotherFucker Worked. I was baffled and doomed to spend the rest of the weekend with it. Thankfully I’ve blacked out much of the actual gameplay memories but not the ordeal as a whole. can’t wait to watch this. James Congrats on the baby and keep going forever. I will check this site daily wherever I am, so far I’ve watched AVGN in 4 countries and will continue spreading the love.

  • Tommi Heikkinen

    May 1, 2013 at 8:46 am

I understand that Lloyd couldn’t stay at his place for days, that’s why this feels unpolished and is kinda hit & miss. Not a very good performance from James, it feels like he’s there just to support Lloyd and the nerd character is forgotten. Lloyd does his best, but James should’ve filmed more takes with him and I bet it would have resulted in some very good ones because a lot of it seems to rely on improvisation. But like I said, they probably had very little time.

  • Jared LEE951

    May 1, 2013 at 8:53 am

What can I say James that your nation of fans haven’t already. Every game review that you have done is totally 100%better than every review I’ve ever seen, pat and the critic are really great to, never will they ever be AVGN!! The best/worst games I ever owned killed my gaming spirit now I am a sports gamer long live MLB THE SHOW!! Death to kings of the beach!!Son of a beach!!Fuck the beach!!

I’ll have to try the NES game with the select “trick”. I wonder if Dr. Killemoff is in any of these games? I remember sending a drawing of him to a kids’ tv show when I was like 3 or 4 years old. I even wrote his name in it, not knowing what it means of course (I am Finnish).

    The ballsack sings at dawn
Well well well, it looks like you finally got around to answering my email in mail bag 7 harold, I dont see what the big deal is. All because colonial sanders is dead, doesnt mea you have to get a picture of the 15 piece bucket tattooed on your left nut and show it to the clerk in CVS. no matter they came after you with bats and pipes screaming ” who the fuck knows what a viaduct is?” I see how it is. I see how things are twisted. Little randy only wanted a tricycle. for halloween but instead he got a beating from uncle dick tips and he was never the same. never ask someone for their hand in marridge if they dont have hands.
All this aside, there are a few things we have to make clear
they call him “ballsack bobby” cause he once shoved a bag of reeses pieces into his nutsack and called it a “peanut butter smackdown”.
I dont want to see you homeless on the street waving your dick around like its the cuban flag yelling a kids to “play T ball down the road” wehre your dick was the bat.
and above all else try and remember this every time you take a shit, “through shit, piss puke or blood, the ginsburg rides tonight”
    -Your old bowling pal,
P.S. I hear motherfucker mike roams this neck of the woods. if I see him, its about time old lenard down at the bar had someone to “tune the bitches” with if you catch the drift. he hasnt bee nthe same since the “ceral box express” of 1991. that and the time he clogged that mens room toilet in christmas tree shop cause he tried to play battleship with his own turds.

Registered for the sole purpose of commenting on this video–it was AMAZING! My favorite AVGNs are when you and Mike are able to interact, and I love the Board James episodes with you, MF Mike, and BL Bootsy. However, it was awesome the comedic chemistry you and Mr. Kaufman had in this video. More guest stars–BRING KAUFMAN BACK!

Great episode. Was totally shocked to see Kaufman as the extreme guy and the nerd being horrified by him.
And I squeeled when I saw my own fanart in the opening. So amazing.

Great to have the theme song back! The fan art was likewise awesome.

Lloyd Kaufman is a certified lunatic-cum-genius. Agree that he needs to have a cameo in the AVGN movie. Can only hope that I will be as raunchy in my elder years…

Yet another “American Movie” quote on this video. “They’re making a mockery of my words, man. This whole thing is turning out to be a theatrical mockery. You understand that, Mike?”

Best AVGN ever. What a priviledge to have two of the best filmakers on a AVGN episode. So was there help from Troma in the bodily fluids? They were very nice.

I come from reading the comments in Youtube. Certainly the people here have more affinity with the old classic AVGN style (and know more about Lloyd Kaufman).

  • Another Guy Named James

    May 1, 2013 at 3:51 pm

Wait! I thought that “Ikari Warriors” was gonna be the last AVGN until the movie was finished!

…Not that another AVGN is a BAD thing, though. Where my BBQ Chips at? I know how I’m spending MY afternoon!

    May 1, 2013 at 4:31 pm

This is just awesome! I loved that movie. It’s one of my guilty pleasures. I never knew about the children’s show, but now I’m so curious I want to see it.

  • May 1, 2013 at 4:44 pm

Nice work there! Got a little sick when TWO Disgusting things hit the games, but fun to see you, the beginnings of a movie producer, making something with a proffesional movie producer! 😀 You popular now!
Also, I was wondering if that mix was gonna mutate the game and it would come alive or something.

  • May 1, 2013 at 6:02 pm

I’ve been a fan for a few years now and even have the DVDs Vol1-3 of AVGN – that said, I wasn’t a really big fan of this or Ikari Warriors. A lot of the laughs I got from AVGN was the observations and humor FROM the game. This and Ikari Warriors had too much “shtick” and “skit” type stuff. I don’t know if its the influence of the movie to AVGN or visa-versa but it seems like adding ice cream to pizza. Ice cream is good and so is pizza but adding them together is too much and neither taste good. Like my favorite AVGNs are Action 52, Star Wars or the Bible Games(any). There wasn’t a ton of gags but James just kept the punches coming and it was awesome to see how the games looked/played. The ones that had characters from the games were starting to drift from this format but still provided some good humor(who can forget the Batman/Joker one?). The stuff that happened like Jason making AVGN give good reviews to Friday the 13th or Bugs Bunnyy with his games were hilarious and played along with the game..not just extra fluff. tl;dr – “More” isn’t more.

  • The_Bones

    May 1, 2013 at 6:06 pm

Guests are undoubtedly a large part of what makes the AVGN series great; i.e. Bugs bunny, ROB and the Joker. So anyone complaining about the spotlight being stolen from the Nerd is under a faulty assumption that AVGN is about the Nerd, the shitty games, and nothing more. Lloyd will go down as one of the very best guests in my opinion. I hope there’s a behind-the-scenes special for this. I want to know if Lloyd is as crazy as he seems. How the fuck you were able to do ANY takes without bursting out after his absolutely absurd, shockingly gross comments of a bizarre sexual nature is sorta unfathomable. I LOL’d hard. BTW, I’ve seen that shit concoction before…what is that? Baked beans and chocolate? The vomit looked like oatmeal with green food coloring.

Cool how you are doing this with other people! It reminds me of Scoobie Doo, how they eventually started having guests on the show, like the globe trotters & other famous guys. I think you should keep up this style; it must be easier to do than a very planned out episode, plus it’s good too. Question; what’s the story behind you getting Kaufman in an episode? I assume your review of his movie got his movie more hits.

  • Top Gear Tony

    May 1, 2013 at 8:36 pm

This is my favorite episode ever. Lloyd Kaufman is amazing. Love that guy!

  • May 1, 2013 at 10:22 pm

I liked it! But I can get why others don’t like it. No these aren’t written like other AVGN episodes, but he doesn’t really have time to make super epic ones like before.

To satisfy the audience here needs to either A. Just swear at a game like the olden days or B. Try something new, like this.

Personally, I like seeing something new, even though I know he doesn’t really have time to do these!

    Good job James!

  • May 1, 2013 at 10:30 pm

    Amazing! Thanks!

James i’am a big fan, and i own all your DvD’s. I’am from europe so sorry for my bad english.

I watched this Episode and i don’t laughed or like it much. I was feeling embarrassed for somebody else while watching the Video. The Humor is totaly not my thing. Maybe because it is of cultural difference between USA and Europe. A lot of people wrote here, how much they love this episode…i can’t understand it.

Anyway, i hope we will see some more “back to the roots” episodes after the movie is done. Reviewing some bad games, some good games maybe.. I wish you would focus more on the games themself again. I know you’re a filmmaker, and that’s where you’re interrests are focused. I really like the Episodes that have a small storyline or mike appearing in costumes… But actually the episodes of AVGN are too overloaded with stuff that doesn’t fit in for my opinion.

    • May 3, 2013 at 11:14 am

I agree with you. I’m also from Europe and didn’t like this episode. Please try some simple episodes sometimes where you just hate the game except for trying to act cause, no offence, but you are not much of a great actor.

  • darkknightdetec

    May 1, 2013 at 11:23 pm

  • Sonic500

    May 1, 2013 at 11:24 pm

    OMG! Great video James 😀
Couldn’t stop laughing at the ending, this was brilliance having Lloyd Kaufman making jokes, at a game with his name in it, and then shitting on it at the end xD

    Keep the funny coming!

  • Sonic500

    May 1, 2013 at 11:27 pm

    May 1, 2013 at 11:45 pm

    May 2, 2013 at 12:00 am

I gotta say, a rare miss in my opinion. Was nice to have the old theme song back and the art montage was cool, but after that it fell flat for me I’m afraid. Now not being a fan of any of the Troma movies that I’ve seen, I just kinda found myself wincing each time Mr. Kaufman said something and hoping he would be quiet so the nerd could actually review the games.

  • Claudio Fernandez

    May 2, 2013 at 12:06 am

Awesome diarrhea and vomit!!! And the old man is a really good comedian!!! Just hearing his nonsense bullshit is hilarious. Keep shitting games, kicking asses and analyzing as the old times, man.

  • Ivan

    May 2, 2013 at 12:42 am

I’ve said before I was looking forward to this episode, but it’s not AS good as Ikari Warriors. Having a video game creator in the nerd room was cool for me. 🙂

  • May 2, 2013 at 1:07 am

He has to come back… You gotta play “wavy tube man Jr.” with him….

  • May 2, 2013 at 1:15 am

I’m not one to complain, I am a big fan of James but I did not really care for this episode. i want to see a review of ADVENTURE ISLAND!!!

  • StupidBunny

    May 2, 2013 at 2:16 am

Pretty good. I must say that, as with a lot of guest appearances, I don’t like how the guest’s personality here is so similar to the Nerd’s. It doesn’t usually work, in anything like this, when two people are trying to do the same thing, and contrasting personalities are usually funnier and make for a better dynamic.

That said, Kaufman had enough of a character of his own in some parts, coming off as more eccentric and possibly insane than just plain pissed off. I did like how bizarre his dialogue was and I suspect it may have been unscripted since the Nerd busted up a few times too.

Pretty cool you got the man on…I know admittedly little about him but he seems awesome.

  • Ben_from_G-town

    May 2, 2013 at 3:04 am

Wow, this episode was more ridiculous, silly, vulgar, and offensive than ever! I didn’t even think that was possible! It even grossed me out!

Lloyd Kaufman, man… he’s even more vulgar than the AVGN! He’s like a really dirty comic version of Mel Brooks!

Still, a great episode. You outdid yourself in the vulgarity and and grossness department, which I didn’t think was possible!

  • May 2, 2013 at 6:16 am

  • Entrenaturaleza

I’ve been watching for years, and check for updates regularly. This video, however wasn’t among your best. Good God was Kaufman annoying. I’m all for a bad joke but it was just continual bad jokes for 15 minutes with very little substance. Anyway looking forward to your next video and the Avgn movie.

  • MetalHorrorNES

    May 2, 2013 at 3:05 pm

That was a pretty good. Getting back to the basics again and of course adding Lloyd is an AWESOME addition. Even the Nerd couldn’t contain himself in that episode! Keep em coming James!

  • May 2, 2013 at 3:31 pm

James pretty much sums it up. ‘yeah, whatever it’s only the 111th fucking episode’.

I liked it, because I laughed at that line hardcore and then the puke/shitting bukkake madness. I’m 28 years old and I should be ashamed.

I seem to be more excited for the James and Mike play stuff because it’s mostly just the ideas for nerd on the spot, and the impressions it leaves on them, you can see the process in its infancy. But all in all good stuff. Excited for the next one. Get mike back in one, please! Fuck you mike!

  • May 2, 2013 at 5:27 pm

It actually looks like James struggled somewhat to get a good AVGN out of Kaufman which surprises me. I do like Lloyd but I’m not sure how good this came out.

I like the new AVGN episode. Keep it coming. The guest star is pretty funny, and I liked the dirty jokes. The ending of that episode accurately describe how horrible are those games reviewed inside the show.

  • Firx

    May 2, 2013 at 10:03 pm

    Hey Mike!
Been a long time follower, since your bible games. Love your videos and I always watch them especially when I had a couple of beers just to relax. Your ability to portray the exact emotion I had as a kid when I was playing these games blows my mind lol (Especially the simpsons).
I simply made this account and comment to keep things going. I never really thought about it, since most people comment. Can’t wait for the next release 🙂

  • gabriot

    May 2, 2013 at 11:13 pm

HAHAHAHHA …. holy shit that is easily the hardest I’ve ever last at a nerd episode. Well done, you’ve outdone yourself, this Laury Kauffman dude is hilarious as fuck!

  • sloth-machine

    May 2, 2013 at 11:23 pm

James, are you no longer affiliated with ScrewAttack and GT?

    • May 5, 2013 at 12:43 am

Seems GT is losing a lot of traffic, in my opinion. Comments used to be in the hundreds for tons of episodes. Now, I usually only see 15-20 comments a vid with a sparse few with a couple hundred.

  • Trey Enma

    May 2, 2013 at 11:32 pm

I heard about this review before I saw it, but I figured “Eh, maybe it isn’t as bad as they say it is.” I was wrong, I couldn’t laugh at a single “joke” in this video.

It doesn’t really matter what anyone says against a video, because majority rules, I suppose, but at one time a majority of humanity thought that the Earth was flat, and they were wrong then too.

The more skit-like your videos become, the more they suffer. I’ve been watching your videos for years and I see a steady decline of believability as they continue to be released. AVGN is at his absolute best, when he’s an extension of James himself. What that means, is that the character’s anger is based upon things that we can actually relate to, and it seems that AVGN now, is a parody of himself.

People spread this stuff through word of mouth, because of how amusing your original style was. Many fans, like myself stick with you because we hope that the next episodes will be enjoyable. Some are, but many are not. I hope that these videos can go back to the simplistic quality of previous episodes, such as Top Gun, Power Glove, or Bible Games.

Those episodes are still hilarious because we as viewers can relate to what you’re talking about. I’ve got a feeling that this comment will be bashed or deleted, but I just had to say it. I love what you started with AVGN, James. I wish very much for you to be able to rekindle whatever fire you had back then.

You should write a 5 paragraph essay on the matter and demand your money back for this episode.

    • May 5, 2013 at 12:40 am

I can agree with this. I believe the essence of classic AVGN is coming back but Kaufman performance in this weeks nerd weighs the episode down.

  • Osirus

    May 2, 2013 at 11:59 pm

Holy fucking shit. I was not expecting Lloyd Kaufman! Love that guy. You’ve really out done yourself this time nerd. You guys should of had him shotgun some Rollin’ Rock. That would of been even more COOL and fun to watch! Although, the shitting on the game cartridge was just as good if not better. This here episode was just as entertaining to watch as the Ninja Gaiden episode was.

    May 3, 2013 at 5:00 pm

I’m not that into Kaupfman so I’m not really the target audience for this episode. Even so I did give me some chuckles.

And I do agree that it sometimes (sadly) felt a bit forced and kind of hastily produced but people really have to remember that James is working on a feature film. He tries to keep his AVGN-fans happy by making episodes he doesn’t actually have time for.

    Good hustle James!

  • May 3, 2013 at 5:58 pm

Having watched Troma films and James’ interview with Lloyd Kaufman, it was awesome to see him as a guest star. That said, this didn’t really feel like an AVGN episode since Lloyd stole the show. It was still entertaining, but Mike is way overdue for the next guest appearance. Good job guys

Man, when the camera view changed I was just assuming we’d get a five second clip from the interview. I never would have imagined Kaufman would not only show up, but be there for the entire episode! That was amazing.

Pulloff: Not just you. I’m just not a fan of Kauffman’s work, except some bits of the first Toxic Avenger movie, so it was annoying here too.

That being said, I’m sure people who love his work loved him stealing the show in this one. I’ll just have other episodes in my favorites list.

James, I’d like to know. Will this guest appearance be a regular thing with the AVGN series from now on?
Personally, I thought it was a little lacking. The AVGN series had been crude, but the crudeness wasn’t the main reason why it made it so funny. It was the frustration and honest critique of the game that people could relate to that made it funny. ( your said it yourself too ! ) I hope you consider this as an honest critique of your episode as a fan, rather than a hate-filled rant. It is BECAUSE I love the AVGN series and know that it is capable of much more that I wrote this. It feels as if the targeted audience is getting younger and younger. But that’s just me assuming too much. But I hope you yourself know how the recent 2 episodes have been different from the rest. Is it because you’re busy?
Nonetheless, I was very happy to see a new AVGN episode and will support you until the end of time!

Great review on Toxic Crusaders nerd. Wow thats totally new to me about the select button being a super punch button. Dam having to reach your thumb all the way across the controller is a pain but I bet the Speed Board would of helped in a situation like that. I guess thats the reason they wanted you to buy a speed board lol. After seeing this review, I’m fixing to now watch the movie because I’ve never seen it and now I’m curious.

Hey everyone, just to say i feel that a good game for Jame’s next review should be corpse killer for the Sega CD. Because if you remember in his Sega CD review he mentioned he had alot to say about it but it would stop freezing at the time of the review. So maybe if he could get some good footage of the game it would turn out to be a good review. Just an opinion thrown out there but give it a thumbs so James is more likely to see it. ty =D

Im sorry James….But this time….this episode was the “Shit load of fuck”. You didnt explain any flaws of the game in humorous ways ilke you do in past episodes. All this episode consisted of was Kaufman saying stupid shit, and mugging in front of the Camera. Very disappointed. We ALL know you can do better.

  • May 5, 2013 at 1:00 pm

I have been watching your videos avidly month by month since I was in fifth grade.I am now a sophomore in high school, and still follow your videos. I loved the nerd videos from the start but also was captivated by the yearly monster madness videos. They were the reason I started collecting old horror films. I have over 115 films in my collection; most of which were reviewed in monster madness. I digress, I love your style of film making. Your cinematography is of quite an interesting style. M

  • May 5, 2013 at 1:04 pm

my favorite of your films is the legend of the blue hole. It was well written, well shot, and well acted. As for a request for a review, I would suggest delving deeper into the zelda universe. perhaps majora’s mask, ocarina of time, or link’s awakening. Thank you for all that you do.

Thanks for this, James. I feel like a kid at Christmas when you post a new video. The vibe is perfect once again since Kyle back in the intro and you and Lloyd Kaufman have great chemistry. You both explode with awesomeness in this video. Thanks again and best wishes.

On a side note, I’m looking at my game shelf and now seeing Toxic Crusaders on the Genesis in a completely different light. Just like Fester’s Quests, and Castlevania, and…

Best of luck to you man. Keep it up!

Lloyd Kaufman is such a douche. He may be revered in the indie cult film circles, but what a fucking tool. Overacted the entire thing. He’s like a bad walking parody of 1930s slapstick and an out of touch failure who tries to compensate with too much toilet humor and can’t pull it off. James, as always, great work, and I’m sure Kaufman was a great guest, but he took your epicness down a level by trying to be the AVGN, and instead failed miserably. I can see why he never went anywhere.

  • May 6, 2013 at 6:42 am

hahah lloyd kaufman is fuckin nuts

Lloyd Kaufman taking a proper shit on the games that were made of his fan favorite film. Outstanding. This review will make me feel a special sense of justice when I look at The Toxic Avenger poster we have hanging in our home. Well done. Love the movie, but everything had to be turned into a game in those days. I’m glad there are no more cheap, awful movie games made any more…Aw hell, I suppose some things never change. Lloyd, and James, keep up the good work.

I’ve been watching AVGN since the beginning, and I LOVED this episode. There are a lot of people trolling this video on YouTube who either do not understand Kaufman’s sense of humor and just calling him “some weird old man” after seeing it. Some have even called out to say this is one of your worst videos, but I laughed my ass off during the whole thing and loved it.

  • May 25, 2013 at 11:39 pm

I don’t know why people are pissing and moaning about how Lloyd Kaufman wasn’t funny. The man is a fucking legend and an inspiration to people who want to get into film making. And in all honesty, I think it’s pretty damn cool how this guy took time out of his life to hang out with the nerd, play some games, and just banter on. I thought it was pretty fucking funny myself. And if you think you can do a better job, do it yourself. If you can’t. Then shut the fudge up…carry on.

  • May 26, 2013 at 3:54 am

  • Sam Karpalosuo

    May 28, 2013 at 1:17 am

This was so great an episode I had to make account to cinemassacre just so I could tell this. Kaufman was great, it’s always nice to see the creators, especially in situations this unformal, and especially when it’s people who haven’t compromised their sense of humor just because they’ve gotten older and well known.

I remember playing the NES version when I was a kid and never made it past the first stage, which is a pity because even though the gameplay sucked I liked the music and the general mood that, if the other aspects just would have worked better, would have contributed to a truly memorable game.

Also, now that I’m saying something I want to also say that I’m happy you still keep doing the episodes even though you’re busy. The old action- and special effects packed episodes were great but to me it’s always been about the games themselves and the Nerd persona, and that’s still there as good as ever.

Does anyone know what episode has the first time the nerd says something like…

    “The ______, yeah the ______”

for Example, “The Code Card, yeah the Code Card”

Weird question I know, but it’s my favourite Nerd mannerism.

  • club

    June 11, 2013 at 10:43 pm

This was…weird. Still an enjoyable episode, but wow what a break from the formula. Troma guy is walking jewish stereotype, but he had a fun, bizarre energy. His overacting with the controller movement was annoying. He seemed to be improv’ing his part, which is kinda cool and different. And I know comedy improv is no easy task, but whats up with the line about beating off to justin beiber? That obviously didn’t come out as intended. Why was it left in? Maybe it was just too golden of a flub to not share.

The ending was hilarious and disgusting. The 2nd time watching it, I laughed at the sheer absurdity that it was just somehow ok for Lloyd as a guest in someone else’s place, to just drop his drawers and fire liquishit on their carpet. I guess the Nerd agreed it was for a greater good.

  • June 14, 2013 at 12:37 am

“These aren’t bats, nerd. These are cats with wings. When I was a teenager in Tijuana, I had some pussy with wings, and that’s what this is all about, man.” -Lloyd Kaufman

Great Toxic Team-up between The Angry Video Game Nerd and Lloyd Kaufman on display right there hahaha!

I had the privilege of meeting both of these guys in Toronto, so I appreciate watching this to see more of their wild side, as they come across as very professional in person :).

This game is a toxic mess! Had I not been such a big fan of the cartoon series, I wouldn’t have even bothered playing through it until the end.

Yeah, that’s right, I actually put myself through this crap hahaha!

Losing the mop after being hit sure sucks ass, but if Toxie can somehow manage to hang on to it, it actually becomes stronger after picking up extra mop symbols.

The mop reaches its peak after obtaining four mop symbols. Having two mop symbols squirts out some toxic waste from the mop, having three makes the mop glide across the screen like a boomerang and getting the fourth mop will start moving it across the screen by itself, temporarily albeit, to clean up everything in its path, like some kind of twisted take on Mario’s star power-up!

There are even some levels where Toxie gets to keep his mop regardless of taking damage, but most people never get to see those levels unfortunately, because Toxic Crusaders for the NES is WAY too hard for a supposed kid’s game.

I actually had more problems playing through the Sega Genesis version and didn’t even bother finishing it :).

    I’ll be back!

  • Nathan

    August 1, 2013 at 7:54 pm

Was totally expecting a man of toxic waste to emerge at the end.

  • August 11, 2013 at 1:27 am

I’ve been watching since the very first episode and I love you James. The only thing I don’t like about the new episodes is that you don’t have the shot angles you used to, including those of your TV. Without that, it feels very fake and put on. Just some constructive critique from a long time fan. 😀

Just got back from Guardians of the Galaxy. There’s a quick Lloyd Kaufman cameo early on that’s pretty easy to miss. He’s just hanging out in the crowd during…I think it was the prison scene? I can’t remember exactly where he was. My brain is still reeling from how awesome the flick was. But I do know he was in there.

Anyway, go see the movie if you have the chance, James and Mike! It’s pure fun.

Wow, double post, and several hours apart! That’s like…an achievement or something. Only not.

What a couple of nuts!!! That Lloyd Kaufman is a funny bastard. Pretty awesome that you got him to do a nerd episode. Something tells me, he doesn’t like a certain couple of directors and their movies. Great job!!! I laughed my ass off.

I loved Toxie as a kid so this is pure excellence.

Lloyd Kaufman is hilarious and this episode rocks! I am sick of, “People” writing comments about how they don’t like this episode because of the other person in the video besides James Rolfe. Obviously you ungrateful turd eaters don’t know who Lloyd Kaufman is, because if you didn’t like him you shouldn’t watch an episode about a game based on his movie Toxic Avenger with him in it. “Oh, the Humanity” -Newman from Seinfeld quoting an announcer who witnessed a tragedy after his mail truck caught on fire with him in it while he was driving.

One of my fave nerd lines has always been ‘It’s like puking on a pile of shit.’
Nice to see that happen…I think.

Awesome to see The Nerd break character due to Kaufman’s spontaneity.
