PC is fine, but I want the NES version!

    • Chill Man

      April 8, 2013 at 12:01 pm

The NES console was discontinued after Sunday Funday.

      • Lukas Sprehn

        April 8, 2013 at 1:18 pm

Some people still make games for it today, homebrew ones πŸ™‚ And some of them don’t even use rehearsed sprites and graphics OR sounds from older games. Check out Battle Kid. Or maybe that was SNES… either way, it will never die πŸ˜€

    • AquaBlueStew

      April 8, 2013 at 3:23 pm

Yeah, really, I’d buy the NES version if someone could try to port it there.

James once again I can’t wait but James what’s gonna happen to Avignon when you turn 30

      • Lanlost

        April 15, 2013 at 11:14 pm

You can’t ‘port’ something to the NES. Well you can, but you can’t JUST port something to an NES.

‘Porting’ to the NES equals an entire re-write. You have no idea how much modern computing and programming does for you every single step of the way.

Coding on a modern PC? It’s cake (relatively).
Coding in 6502 Assembly, line by line, for an NES? .. Seriously, thousands of times more complex.

It’s becuase the NES was so simplistic and SLOW that you have to pay attention to (literally.. not a joke) every single bit that is being processed, when it’s processed, including hacks and trade offs to get the most out of every single nanoseconds IN BETWEEN frames to get ANYTHING done.

A modern pc? Yeah, you can throw the worlds sloppiest coding at it and as long as it’s logical it will be playable on anything from the last 10 years.

        <– Professional Software Developer.

      • Lanlost

        April 15, 2013 at 11:17 pm

Also, this doesn’t mean I condone sloppy programming. I’m just saying.

And also-also, this is why Sivak should be COMMENDED for creating Battle Kid. He went from little to no programming experience to making a legitimately amazing game (let alone for the NES) from scratch. Did all the coding, game play, .. and the music… and the graphics.. and…

It’s really a feat I haven’t seen accomplished ever. Sure there have been plenty of homebrew NES games. These are on the scope of something like.. Reversi or Tetris however, not a full Capcom NES era quality game. That is all. Praise Sivak.

    April 8, 2013 at 11:40 am

Can’t stop smiling. Will buy the moment you have it available.

  • April 8, 2013 at 11:43 am

Oh come on, everyone knows this belongs on a home console like Nintendo Wii. : )

    • April 8, 2013 at 1:08 pm

Agreed… Wii U though. Steam is going to be a home console competitor soon… but we’ve seen Nintendo beat out the “best”…

PLEASE bring this to the Mac, please!!!!!!!
Also, why no .nes version, i mean, not a real cartridge, although, that would be the best thing ever, even if it was a fake one, i’d buy that! but just an .nes emulator version, how epic would that be!

    • Lukas Sprehn

      April 8, 2013 at 1:20 pm

Mac is sadly not ideal for gaming. It’s too bad that Apple won’t make it better for gaming. They would be able to fight Windows then over the video game industry, and it would be like in the Bit Wars πŸ˜€

    • patlefort

      April 8, 2013 at 6:30 pm

Or better, bring it to a GNU/Linux distro instead of forcing everyone to buy a platform.

  • April 8, 2013 at 12:21 pm

I wanted to make a Nerd game where he scrubs together the pieces of his smashed video games and creates a time portal so he can go back to the past and prevent those shitty games from being made. The graphics, music and controls suck ass, but get better as you progress.

  • Lukas Sprehn

    April 8, 2013 at 12:23 pm

I hope it will have references to the AVGN Movie and past episodes and have some kind of epic storyline, or evne a updating “episode”-based storyline! πŸ˜€ With many plots and objectives. That would be fucking kickass!

  • Lukas Sprehn

    April 8, 2013 at 12:23 pm

By the way, will this be available on the Xbox Live Arcade? πŸ˜€

  • Pascal

    April 8, 2013 at 1:29 pm

I have no Steam, will never have Steam so… kinda useless for me. But I voted any way…

  • April 8, 2013 at 1:42 pm

    Will it be shitty?

  • Andrew Edwards

    April 8, 2013 at 2:12 pm

    April 8, 2013 at 3:49 pm

I’ll wait for the AVGN review of the game.

  • April 8, 2013 at 3:53 pm

After revising my Steam account I managed to vote yes on the proposal of the game being distributed. I love the idea and I hope a lot of other people will vote yes to it as well cause it’s about time that there’s an AVGN game. I’ll look forward to it as much as the movie.

  • April 8, 2013 at 3:55 pm

hell yeah. I would definitely pay to get this

  • April 8, 2013 at 3:57 pm

Porting to the NES is most likely impossible do to the programming. Programming for NES is dreadful. But a remake for NES would be wonderful. Any console port would be appreciated. PC sucks. Even James can realize how PC isn’t as authentic to play games on.

  • April 8, 2013 at 5:08 pm

  • April 8, 2013 at 5:22 pm

Looking forward to this. Thumbs up on Steam Greenlight and a donation of $50. Not looking for a thank you, it’s me who want to thank Cinemassacre for giving me so many laughs over the years!

    April 8, 2013 at 8:27 pm

Is this game going to be for Ubuntu Linux aswell? Id hate to run a vm just to play this game.

  • Boni

    April 8, 2013 at 8:46 pm

I wonder if this is going to be a shitty game. It would be really an irony. Anyway, just make it not so powerful, I have a shitty PC and can’t play these modern games.

See! How they should make an AVGN game is that they should study the flaws in video games that the nerd finds revolting, something that makes him hate the games he plays. You should make them the enemy or type of enemies in the game or types of distractions in game like they did with Eternal Darkness. For example, have like glitches in the game that, weird animation, weak weapons, ridiculous cranks in difficulty… ect. I just think it would make for a great game. Maybe this game will have elements of that in it, who knows.

  • chorinator

    April 8, 2013 at 9:28 pm

It has to be a shitty game, I mean It HAS to be. Imagine the NERD bashing and trashing on his own shitty game for how shitty it is but at the same time all of us (his fans) just fucking buy it to support him and with the money raised he makes the sequel to his movie. Mind blown!

  • gdzacher

    April 8, 2013 at 9:37 pm

Fantesticles! Either this game is going to be awesome or it’s going to be balls. And if it’s terrible, than James needs to review it. Either way, I will throw money at it until it dies of choking on money…Hopefully James and Co. get some kind of financial consideration for this game.

    April 8, 2013 at 9:59 pm

  • marc_lawson

    April 9, 2013 at 12:01 am

Please make an NES version. If I could buy stock in an idea, it would be the creation of new professional NES games.

  • April 9, 2013 at 12:15 am

Wouldn’t it be funny if the Nerd reviewed his own video game?

  • Sakenomi

    April 9, 2013 at 12:33 pm

You know it would be funny and kind of ironic if every aspect AVGN hates so much is included in this game:

    Can’t shoot while ducking.
    Some weapons don’t do anything.
    Sometimes You jump through platforms.
    No lifebar
    No continues
At least 3 rows each with at least 20 characters for password.
You jump by pushing up (although.. if it’s for PC, i guess gonna be ok for keyboard controlls…)
Useless actions (the finger could be an analogy for moonwalker gestures or batman dancing)
Ending is just a text screen and perhaps simply “Congratulations!”
And the game features enemies, that never appeared in the show.. (Remember the green zombie lizard kinda guy from the show, do You? )

but then everyone would hate it…
Would be cool though if it really had some enemies from the show, like the “guests” or at least some references to the most hated games could be in there, especially some characters could serve as bosses.
I see a stage going over the LJN rainbow, lol

      April 9, 2013 at 3:41 pm

I’ve seen on screenshots there will be a difficulty setting, the hardest (known) difficulty being “hard as balls”. With such a difficulty label, i believe putting your suggestions like “can’t shoot while ducking” as only part of that setting would allow players not to hate the game. πŸ™‚

        April 10, 2013 at 6:39 am

Funny, that I wrote a short version of the same comment on Youtube, and got countless replies. It seems people really want to see that..
Or at least as a special mode in game called “Shitty Fuckin’ Game Mode” or something.

Here is what they added to my already mentioned list:

The ending screen should be: “Conglatoration, You beat a great Game!”

        You have 1 life

You get pushed back every time You get hit, even if You face other direction.

Enemies can fire through walls, James can’t.

To shoot up, You have to press Down and B

If You select one player mode, You get two players and vice versa

You can’t go back. (screen doesn’t scroll back)

        You can outrun the screen.

It needs to have two level 3’s

And seriously, I start to think, that such a sarcastic game would indeed be “absolutely beautiful” as one of those who replied stated ;D

I know this game is probably half done already, but it could be a fun mode to add on or something..

I can’t wait to try this game out. I really do miss the snes 16 bit games from the 90’s, there are so many great games out now , but the old 16-32 bit games were so fun and casual. Thank you James and Mike for this website.

  • April 9, 2013 at 1:31 pm

Mee meeeeee meeeeeeeeee now!!!! The Dr. has spoken.

    April 9, 2013 at 3:36 pm

When is the Atari ST version coming ?
…. why everyone’s looking at me like that ?

Anyway, i dreamed of it when i saw hints of it in the intro for Silver Surfer review, now it’s being confirmed. Man, i’m gonna like it. πŸ™‚

  • April 9, 2013 at 4:21 pm

Am I the only one who would think it would hilarious if this game sucked!

Coming from someone who designs games as a hobby, there are lots of programs out there that let you release games for EVERYTHING. Steam, Pc, Mac, even IPhone and Facebook.

That said, I hope it contains a variety of short games…A better Action 52 with plot, perhaps.

    …and a minimum of 43 Castlevania references.

  • April 10, 2013 at 9:18 am

This game is going to be SWEET, you guys should bring it to OnLive!

  • Ben_from_G-town

    April 10, 2013 at 4:56 pm

Vote for it on Steam? I don’t have Steam because I had a crappy computer for years, so I’m not sure what this entails. Why do we have to vote for it? Why can’t they just put it on there? I don’t get it. The game looks interesting from what little we saw, though.

  • September 20, 2013 at 5:46 pm

Thank you so much for making this game. Although I love all the “Nerdisms” but even taking those out of the discussion, the game is a wonderfully put together blast to the past… but at the same time being visually wonderful. Controls are spot on and the game is that kind of challenging that any true retro fan will appreciate. Also the soundtrack if effin SWEET. I’ve only been playing it for a few hours and I’m already a huge fan. Bravo! It was money well spent no doubt.
