You know james im one a huge fan since back in 05 and am still loyal to this day. i know your super busy with the movie and pregnancy and all, but come on man 3 months? and the thing is you release other videos, which i totally love, all the time. You fans all love you and are die hard loyal, but you most famous for the nerd, so is one a month too much to ask for? please do not take this as a criticism in any way, i love everything you release and check it daily. I do notice too that your recent videos have been incredibly high quality and better than 20 minutes lately, but we fans would love a five minute nerd every two weeks than your amaxingepics every 3, and i do love both. Please just not so long of a wait, Love your work and respect you incredibly

    • Deathbringer

      March 9, 2013 at 9:14 pm

James has said the nerd episodes are more work and he gets bigger and crazier ideas for them. He also WANTS to do the longer form episodes, and the other side videos as the entertaining filler to hold you. If he’s not doing content he wants to do, it’s not going to be good.

Funny thing about Ikari Warriors, that game might be the first game of SNK for the NES. Welcome Back Kyle btw.

    *Sorry meant to write:
James, ive been a huge fan since back in 05 and i am still loyal to this day. i know your super busy with the movie and pregnancy and all, but come on man, 3 months? This is not a complaint but the thing is, you release other videos like sim city, which i totally love by the way, all the time. Your fans all love you and are die hard loyal, but you are in fact most famous for the nerd, so is one a month too much to ask for? please do not take this as a criticism in any way, i love everything you release and check the site daily, hourly sometimes. dont get me wrong, I do notice too that your recent videos have been incredibly high quality and better than 20 minutes long lately, but i know as a fan i would love a five minute nerd episode every two weeks just as much as your amaxing epics every 3 months, and again i do absolutely love both. If possible, Please just not so long of a wait, Love your work and respect you incredibly

    • March 6, 2013 at 4:39 pm

No offense taken, but the simple to answer to “Is one a month too much to ask for?” is YES. These videos each take a whole week or more to make. That’s 1/4 of the month taken out of my schedule. You mentioned the movie and the pregnancy. Put it all together. Glad you love the videos and thanks for being a fan.

      • Anarox thedude

        March 6, 2013 at 6:43 pm

James, I have seen all your videos, they have given me good laughs and awesome feeling of nostalgia. Through the years I have enjoyed all work, not only AVGN, the top ten lists are equally awesome.

As an admirer, I ask you to just chill out man, be with your wife and do whatever you want. We the real fans who are not spoiled shits will always wait. I too am married and know how pregnancy is time consuming.

In a way, the problem with beeing too big is that you reach a level of fame where people just watch you because your popular. I doubt they have ever suffered the god damn jump of ass that was the jump on TMNT on nes.

Anyway don’t know if you will read this, but take care man and thanks for the laugs!

      • BrockLobster

        March 6, 2013 at 6:57 pm

Yes, just do what you have to. Most people understand that time exists, and as such, we have to decide which comes first, either making an internet video, or working on things for the family you are creating. All the best, James. Just give us videos when you have time. That is how it is supposed to work.
        Take care, James.

        March 6, 2013 at 10:34 pm

BEST….REPLY….EVER……..lol the simple answer is YES!!!Thanks for being a fan!!! Pure gold!!! James rocks our socks!!!

      • March 7, 2013 at 9:16 am

Thanks for finding ANY time to do a Nerd episode… Love the condensed look of the Nerd room with the video store setup. Makes the shelves of games look much more menacing haha.

      • Elvenking

        March 8, 2013 at 2:45 am

LOL….how is it that some believe you exist solely for their entertainment and forget that it is a gift you give us? Well I don’t…thank you for all the hard work you put into these! Great to have your talent in our lives. Thanks!

      • Laughs

        March 10, 2013 at 6:53 am

That was one fan-friggin-tastic episode… Given all the stuff you have going on, I was surprised at the quality of this one. As someone who has previously taken media communications/video editing at college, I can assure everyone that these take a lot of time and effort. Thanks for this episode… I enjoyed it immensely.

        March 10, 2013 at 10:27 pm

Love your AVGN videos James, Ive seen them ALL, and i think im gonna revisit each on of them again!

    • mike keith

      March 7, 2013 at 6:11 am

this is a film website, not a game website. Most of the content is going to be film related. The AVGN is just a character that he came up with, and not what he is most famous for. People like me want to see more movie reviews and commentary’s. I love the AVGN episodes, but I for one do not play video games since I was a kid, so It just brings back memories for me. FILM is where the heart is!!!

      • KennyM

        July 16, 2013 at 1:38 pm

yes but how many cinmessacre fans would there be without avgn? all im saying

    • March 7, 2013 at 1:10 pm

Clearly you don’t understand film/video production very well and also aren’t recognizing how important this movie is to JR’s future film career. I also miss the frequent episodes and am less than thrilled when Mike posts a game review, but stop being a whining bitch for a second and realize how much time goes into what JR actually does. Support him for what he’s planning for the future and not complain, or else you’re not really much of a fan.

    • Steve Smith

      March 7, 2013 at 11:48 pm

What the hell is the point of your comment? Your such a loyal fan and check his site daily but don’t get why it takes him much longer to put out episodes now? And then you say that you realize they’re better quality and longer than when he put out episodes every 2 weeks but then ask him to put out short rushed episodes just so you can watch half assed episodes. James isn’t just about the nerd and works on other things, and if your such a fan you should know this. I just had to know because this is the most condescending post I’ve ever seen.

      • KennyM

        July 16, 2013 at 1:57 pm

No shit he works on other things, but bottom line he is as big as he is today because of avgn, period. He became so popular when he was in his avgn hayday of 8 to 15 minute videos bi weekly. other that the movie I would think nerd would be a top priority. believe it or not everyone out there isn’t a die hard avgn fan checking the site daily in anticipation like some of us are, and I fear the longer and longer these videos take to be released the less main stream he becomes. I think james is beyond talented, but where would he be without avgn? would you know him? I commend and anticipate ALL future AND non nerd related projects, im only trying to make the point that if avgn is your bread and butter, maybe give it a little bit more attention. looking back I hate the way my comment came off and I did not mean to be condescending in the least. Have you ever thought about what he actually does for a living though, how he earns a check? I think he is one of the best out there but it is beyond difficult to get a start in the industry and I truly believe that the movie is his definite ticket in, and the more fans that see the avgn movie the better. and the best way to make this happen is how? Maximum amount of fans at time of release, and when did most of us become fans? When videos where shorter and came out more often, that’s all im saying. theres no way for me to win here, bottom line I wish I could see more avgn, even if it meant shorter vids, that’s it, but of course I did not mean at the expense of quality either, come on. I think he had triple a quality 5 years ago, and still does now, and all I want is everyone to know THAT THE VIDEO ANGRY VIDEO GAME NERD IS THE GOD OF REVIEW and I want the movie to make tens of millions, be purchased and receive national attention. Don’t you?

  • March 6, 2013 at 4:37 pm

AVGN = best show on the Internets

    • March 9, 2013 at 3:20 am

After watching this episode a few times, wasn’t a huge fan of it. I didn’t find the “game play/what were thinking?!” footage as appealing as others. I’m not going to say “AVGN is dead” or anything like that because honestly, I’ve liked the last few Episodes are stellar. This one seemed..too “abstract”..like it wasn’t about the game itself but more about Kyle singing songs. You don’t have to “out-do” yourself IMO or try “new things” for AVGN episodes, I could laugh at the same “69 a grizzly bear” type stuff for the rest of my life and never find it old.

Glorious day! I’ve been waiting for this!

  • March 6, 2013 at 4:44 pm

Yay, thanks Kyle! I really missed the theme song. James, listen to the guy once in a while, will you? YA NERD! 🙂

  • March 6, 2013 at 4:50 pm

Believe it or not Kenny, you’re not representative of all of the fans. I prefer him not burning out like before, and I prefer the episodes to be high quality like this. If he’s making them on a schedule he’s going to get sick of it much faster and it’ll get stale much faster. Don’t forget, we’ve got a whole movie to look forward to.

        So true.

    • KennyM

      July 16, 2013 at 1:35 pm

I meant high quality as in hd, not production. Back in the day a video was 8 minutes or so and twice a month, but now the huge 20 minute beasts but take forever to release, that’s all im saying.

  • March 6, 2013 at 4:51 pm

hahaha this was great. good to see kyle again.

  • Lukas Sprehn

    March 6, 2013 at 4:54 pm

    Welcome back

  • Lukas Sprehn

    March 6, 2013 at 4:56 pm

Welcome back again Nerd. And welcome back to the Guitar Guy as well! Good to see you and Kyle is still friends and are still working together! Now let’s just hope Kyle’s in the Movie! Even for only cameos 😀

    • Lukas Sprehn

      March 6, 2013 at 5:09 pm

And what a creative way to bring him back man! Also, it’s a bliss to be heating the theme song again! I hope he and it are here to stay, but next it’s be awesome to hear a more heavy version like the Classic one most of us are used to. Also, it’s funny how socially awkard the Nerd seems at first around the Guitar Guy! I guess that does make sense, seeing as he often gets words and their pronounciation wrong. Also, the lighting, lenses, angles and color-grading is great. And the overall image quality. It seems less compressed with less compression artefacts! Much higher production value in some ways! I have a question though, James. It seems as if you’ve moved the couch. Did you do that for the Movie?

      • Lukas Sprehn

        March 6, 2013 at 5:15 pm

James, your focus and acting seems better too. It must have been because you got your well-deserved rest after the shooting in L.A. You must’ve been burned out, just like a few years back after spittig the episodes out more regularly and faster. However it seems like the Nerd is enjoying the game more than he usually would with these games. Actually, it kinda firs. I mean, we really needed some og that “innocent” and fun Nerd humor!

  • granado_jake

    March 6, 2013 at 4:56 pm

Glad Kyle is back, he seems down though, cheer him up Nerd! anger was mostly given by him, but was very entertained the whole time. didn’t expect to see a new episode today

  • frostare

    March 6, 2013 at 4:56 pm

Now I’m convinced: Anytime I decide to watch a lot of past AVGN episodes it’s a signal that a new one is coming. I must have a hidden radar or something.

  • frostare

    March 6, 2013 at 4:59 pm

Kyle was fantastic I might add, thanks for bringing him back even if it was just for an episode. A fine episode BTW! You two did great!

  • March 6, 2013 at 5:01 pm

really good episode. you could tell that kyle’s charecter was just bored as he was forced to watch the nerd play the game towards the end. really funny most of the time. and the nerd room looks amazing. i bet that is how it is going to look in the movie. 😀

  • March 6, 2013 at 5:35 pm

Really good episode, i enjoyed watching it a lot! A lot of great humor a long with a funny and in depth game review. I especially like the parts where you’re searching through old books and VHS tapes for tips on how to beat the game, LOL! Been there myself.

    March 6, 2013 at 5:37 pm

Great episode! it was a nice idea to bring Kyle back for this episode!

  • You Can Just Walk Over It

    March 6, 2013 at 5:42 pm

Amazing comeback, loved the music during revival of the skeleton, can’t believe it’s been 4 years since crazy castle was filmed (early 2009?) with Kyle’s last appearance.

Also was mind blown to hear the theme sung to the credits at the end. Watching this in HD full screen is amazing, definitely a great upgrade in recent episodes.

  • March 6, 2013 at 5:44 pm

This was so funny, really couldn’t stop laughing at Kyle’s songs.

I hear there is a baby nerd on the way, congrats mate…best thing in the world…until you kid starts eating your games 🙂

Holy shit, that was fucking awesome, Kyle can come out from behind the couch anytime! So funny and perfect for this game.

  • March 6, 2013 at 6:04 pm

This is one of your best episodes!

  • March 6, 2013 at 6:05 pm

    I missed the song

  • Roth Sothy

    March 6, 2013 at 6:05 pm

LOL @ 10:00 and onwards! Kyle should be a regular. He’s got a few decent lines.. but chill out on the extended jam sessions though, little jingles here and there are fine. It makes the show more original and more fun to watch. Also, scrotum guns.

  • Grizly

    March 6, 2013 at 6:06 pm

James, Thank you so much for FINALLY mentioning the VHS of Video Game Secrets that was my favorite to watch as a kid and it was brand new at about the time i was 8 years old or so. Thanks for Nailin it u hit home again good sir! Please consider doing your memories of that VHS tape!!!!!!!

Never really played this game but I always assumed it was good, since it spawned two sequels and is a pretty recognized name.
Although I’ve occasionally disagreed with you, after seeing this review I think I can take your word that this one stinks.
The best pard is James trying to hide his breaking up behind the controller.

  • March 6, 2013 at 6:31 pm

haha, that chorus is frigain amazing…..thanks guys! keep em coming!

  • March 6, 2013 at 6:33 pm

It’s funny to see the AVGN theme song after so long, I always wonder if he’s gonna play it at the beginning of each new episode. Good to see he’s aware the fans want it back.

  • March 6, 2013 at 7:05 pm

Awesome job! You should definitely do a tour of the nerd room where you and Mike are just hangin’ out, going through your games and stuff. It’d be great extra content on the site!

  • skunk

    March 6, 2013 at 7:06 pm

Funny as allways! And Kyle’s songs are very catchy!

  • March 6, 2013 at 7:07 pm

I was always a much bigger fan of Guerrilla War. You move faster, better graphics, fun weapons power-ups, better levels.
Its funny how most people remember and talk about Ikari Warriors but not Guerrilla War.

    • remylebeau

      March 7, 2013 at 1:06 pm

Guerilla War is fucking awesome! I think that was one of the first NES games I ever beat as a kid…

  • March 6, 2013 at 7:24 pm

This is the first comment I’ve ever left on here. Surprised to see a new video. I’ve pretty much watched all your videos at least twice. Now I put them on as commentary while I’m working at home. Thanks for the new one. Good luck with your movie and congrats on the baby.

I can’t be the only one that notices this, but something I really enjoyed about this video was the blend of familiar elements from your other works. This episode seemed to follow a similar format to that of the “James and Mike Play” videos, while it still managed to incorporate the usual Nerd language and outbursts. The throwback motif was nice, too; gotta love the ol’ yellow Comic Sans credits (even though “Produced and Starring James Rolfe doesn’t really make sense grammatically, wouldn’t it be Produced BY and starring?). Speaking of grammatical follies, the piss-poor game-end screen reactions always get me hysterical, hearing Kyle sing this one out and seeing the Nerd’s facial responses kept the gag fresh.

I might be in the minority here, but I say retire the Nerd episodes until after the movie is released. Not only will it speed up the latter process, but I personally just eat up all of the other videos in between, even the ones with just Mike talking about a game or movie or something.

BTW- did anyone else see Pat the NES Punk on Pawn Stars?

i agree i wrote i comment about this. This episode doesnt have the angry video game nerd magic. I love this video though. I love all his stuff. But this just doenst seem angry. Theres been a few lately that just dont have the full avgn feel. But they’re still great. Keep them coming james please

    March 6, 2013 at 8:02 pm

Great to see kyle again, also awesome job on the filming, kinda feels like a real TV serie. good to see james couldnt hold his laugh when Kyle was just jibbering around xD

    • tannerkish616

      March 6, 2013 at 8:08 pm

I liked that, too. Again, it’s something we see/hear a lot of in the James and Mike Play videos, and it’s effective in that it sorta-kinda puts the viewers in the room with the reviewers- because usually we’re laughing right along.

    March 6, 2013 at 8:06 pm

A+ Episode, Kyle knocked it out of the park and James was great as usual. The ABBA song was my favourite part but it was hard to choose.

  • March 6, 2013 at 8:10 pm

Ah, great to see Kyle back again. I hope we can see him in future episodes as well, along with the theme song.

Now, if only you could convince Mike to draw another title card…

  • March 6, 2013 at 8:13 pm

I was getting tired of the theme song. I usually skip over it.

You guys look like you were having a ball. I hope you’re doing well James and that you have a wonderful year.

One of your best episodes! Please Please release a behind the scenes video! I noticed you cracking up way to many times during this video too think there isn’t any more.

  • March 6, 2013 at 9:09 pm

aw, i like the way you did the voice audio in the older episodes. It doesn’t seem like it matches what the acoustics of the room would be.

Yeah, ABBA is a great code …(and a ok 70´s band lol)

  • J

    March 6, 2013 at 9:34 pm

James man, GREAT episode. Glad to see Kyle back, as it brought back some of the original spirit of the show. Maybe it’s not a HUGE thing, but it would be like changing the theme song to Scrubs and one of the characters leaving the show…just not the same. Also, Kyle’s songs kind of set the tone than just a cold opening…his version, not so much the various remixes people have made over the years, though some of those are very cool. Something about the stripped down guitar changes the tone.

Also, did I detect increased production value? New equipment maybe? Seems like it looked a bit more crisp than usual, and the sound quality seemed better as well. Keep up the good work.

James, you are my savior. I’ve been dying for a new NES review, and been questioning my mental health watching old episodes over and over, and just had an Ikari Warriors conversation with few friends about a week ago. Good job, always on the ball. Just awesome.

This was an amazing review. I couldn’t help but grab a drink and some chips while watching as I felt like I was sitting there in the room. Never have I laughed so hard at an AVGN video. Also loved the recreation of the first episodes for the theme song, so classic.

  • March 6, 2013 at 10:08 pm

this is your best work in a long time. love that you are trying to keep it fresh. screw anyone who doesnt.

  • March 6, 2013 at 10:13 pm

I don’t know if anyone caught this but Kyle messed up on the code song saying “start” when its “select”

    • March 6, 2013 at 10:25 pm

The funny thing is the book was wrong. You don’t have to hit select. That’s only if you want to select 2 players. So just hitting “Start” is correct. Kyle was right.

KEEP THE INTRO SONG BY THE WAY! Not the same without it!

I wasn’t aware that two of the characters in King of Fighters were from Ikari Warriors. I guess even old-school gamers like me can still learn some new things. 🙂

At any rate, fantastic episode all around! I’ve been watching your videos for a while now, but for some reason this one finally convinced me to register with the site. All of you do amazing work, and I always seem to leave Cinemassacre a little more impressed than when I entered. I think I’m going to have to comment here more often. 🙂

I’m greatly looking forward to seeing what you have in store next. Particularly for the AVGN series. But there’ll be plenty of time for that after a well deserved rest. 🙂

    March 6, 2013 at 11:50 pm

Nice to see Kyle back. Maybe we’ll get a re-recorded theme song soon. Studio quality, with bass guitar and each instrument in both speakers. Maybe a couple new lines as the Nerd branches out with more systems, like “He’s the angry (MS-DOS) PC nerd” or “He’s the angry Playstation (1, of course) nerd”.

What I really like about this episode is how it gives you an idea of the kind of music Kyle actually makes, rather than the atypical pop punk of the AVGN intro.

  • March 7, 2013 at 12:07 am

Not as hilarious as previous episodes. A mediocre script made better by Kyle’s hilarious ad-libbed songs. Some other funny moments but definitely not one of the more memorable AVGN videos.

  • LicaWolf

    March 7, 2013 at 12:09 am

Welcome back, Kyle! The theme song is back too. Sweet.

This was an hilarious episode. This game was ideal for a having a guest because it looks like it would have been too tedious for a regular episode. Some of my favorite parts were Nerd using a cheatcode to revive Kyle and the parts with Kyle singing (James you were totally cracking up! lol :P)

  • March 7, 2013 at 12:14 am

Good return for the Nintendo Dork, lol! Glad to see Kyle back too. I think it’s time he got the chance to make up a new song for future episodes. My only complaint is the car scene. It just didn’t make any since to me and look badly done. Sorry if that offended you James, the rest was great as usual. Now get back to work on the movie, ya Nintendo Dork, lol!

  • Iron65

    March 7, 2013 at 12:24 am

Nice man It’s good to be back as the Nerd! Nowi know how damn frustrating is this game… I supose many hate it for good reason… Must people say is best on Arcade but who cares. The only matter about is the 2 characthers appear in KOF and they really kick more ass there! by the way! the self-destruct system once the tank is out of gas is totally hilarious!

  • March 7, 2013 at 12:34 am

james this was super funny, please don’t ever take the theme song away. funny story, i’ve sang it to my past three girlfriends and they broke up with me shortly after, so if that could happen to me and i still love the damn song, don’t take it away from me, it’s all i have.

    March 7, 2013 at 12:39 am

Listen – I check your page pretty much everyday for a new episode. I love AVGN. ANN of course as well! This episode, like most of late, lacked the AVGN charm, though. It lacked that satirical yet serious tone of AVGN. Like, the power glove episode.

Why was it so good then and not now? Authenticity. Those avgn episodes back then, had the honesty of some guy really trying hard to please people while being the nerd. Now, the nerd is just a name, with no real significance any more.

You have the facial expressions, you have the poses and the right games……but you look fake. You sound fake, Kyle also makes it sound fake. Singing those songs was a great addition. Did the nerd do anything at all vocally as the previous nerd did? No.

This is Nerd 2.0. Unfortunately, like a lot of new games out there, and movies being remade – graphics and sequels tend to throw away any attempt at love of the concept.

“Sucks Monkey Fuck”. Classic line. Why? because it came out of no where, and yet you redelivered it 2 seconds later, while looking at the camera! It was really really unexpected. Don’t regurgitate new lines. Make new ones. it’s not hard. The nerd would not call out things he just wanted to say, no, hes reviewing a fucking old ass game, and telling us how fucking shitty it is, so that we don’t play it. Even if we do.

    • March 7, 2013 at 12:56 am

the episode did what it was supposed to do he reviewed a game and made people laugh, just like he always has done. this episode was obviously made for the fans, james is currently making a movie right now and he didn’t have to do this. nothing at all is fake about the nerd here, not that i see, i don’t think kyle plays games a lot which makes it even funnier cause he probably doesn’t know what he talking about and we all have friends like that! i feel like this was made like the spiderman episode, just him and kyle being two friends playing a game for hours.
and if you wanna bitch about the quality, shit i probably helped pay for that camera while donating to James so thank god he’s using it to make all his shit look awesome!
i’ve been a fan of AVGN for many years, hell, there’s a channel on justin.tv that streams it 24/7 along with top 10 and dorkly bits that i fall asleep to every night and it always has over 200 people at a time on it, and anyway this episode made me laugh it made me want to watch it again and again just like all the other episodes do that i still laugh at.
there will always be complaints. but james and him as the nerd are NOT fake.

    March 7, 2013 at 12:39 am

When I first pulled up the video I thought, “Ikari Warriors? 20 fucking minutes???” Any concerns or doubt I had were soon put at ease by the soothing minstrel: Kyle guitar guy Justin.
This episode made me realize that, while I enjoy the Nerd character on his own with fits of profanity and rage…my favorite episodes have simple nostalgia or additional cast. Kevin Finn. Mike Matei. Kyle Justin. When paired up, there’s just a genuine chemistry that’s really amusing and entertaining to watch come together. Great job

  • March 7, 2013 at 12:49 am

“dont be stupid, shit goes through there” LOL

  • March 7, 2013 at 12:51 am

Great episode, and welcome back Kyle. I think it’s time for Kyle to get a chance to write a new theme song for the show. The only downside for me was the car part. I didn’t get the joke and the scene inside the car looked horrible. No disrespect of course. I know you got a lot of work to do and little time. Now get back to the movie, ya Nintendo dork, lol! : )

    March 7, 2013 at 1:00 am

exactly Ralf and Clark from King of Fighters 🙂 great video nerd.

  • March 7, 2013 at 1:24 am

My dad was never one for video games, but I remember he’d play this game, Contra, and TMNT 2: The Arcade Game with me on NES. One time in particular, Ikari Warriors messed up, and he was stuck inside a tank that was invincible. The best part was that the glitch didn’t end when he beat the level. It stayed that way until completion.

    March 7, 2013 at 3:48 am

Rambo-Commando rhymes nicely but I would’ve gone with a sitcom title like “John & John.” Maybe have those great dialogue boxes with lines like:
    -“Ay, John.”
    -“What is it, John?”
    -“We’re out of ammo, John.”
    -“Let’s get outta here, John.”

    • Lastor

      March 7, 2013 at 11:06 am

On a serious note: if this, Ghost & Goblins and Atari Sports is what we get after such long breaks, I don’t mind the wait!

Wait, did that come out wrong…?

What I mean is that even though I liked monthly AVGN, I feel much more appreciative of the show when I can’t get too accustomed to it. I’m sure many others are the same way.
Also, keep the “bloopers” within the video (like Kyle bursting into laughter after “Maybe they’re bad walkers”) in in the future (provided that you keep doing after this, I’m not gonna take it for granted) cause I feel it gives a certain looseness and spontaneity that you can’t create otherwise.

  • March 7, 2013 at 4:24 am

Great episode as always James.. i was laughing so hard it hurt at times. You and Kyle( and Mike who i’m guessing was there somewhere as well) did a great job with this..i wonder if Kyle will enjoy living behind his couch again, lol?..or futon as you once corrected him in one of the bug bunny episodes. Good to have a new nerd video though, and keep up the great work with the film, i can’t wait to see it. Take your time with it so it’s good, and the same with future episodes of AVGN, i’ll keep re-watching older episodes and laughing till my stomach hurts in the mean time.

    March 7, 2013 at 4:34 am

Hey James, good work on the video. I really loved the scene where Kyle got stuck in the couch. Never heard of this game before, really looks like a frustrating game. Thank you for playing this so we don’t have to.

    Greetings from overseas, take care.

PS: For the people nagging about taking so long for releasing this AVGN episode, stop it. It’s not like you are refreshing the cinemassacre homepage every second, do something else and when a episode comes out be glad. Making an episode takes a lot of time next to someones personal life.

    March 7, 2013 at 4:53 am

I tried playing this game several times when I was a kid and it just pissed me off! I thought is was just a high score game kind of like Balloon Fight. Didn’t know about the code and didn’t have a game genie. Didn’t have a chance in hell. Thank you for the closure and thanks for a hilarious video! Long live the NERD!!

  • March 7, 2013 at 4:58 am

awesome new episode, but did that asshole really have sing through the entire episode!! AVGN was right get back behind the couch and shut up! lol

  • Ben_from_G-town

    March 7, 2013 at 5:07 am

NICE! It’s great to see Kyle Justin back in an AVGN video after so long. And I love how you brought him back to life with the code. This game had the usual ridiculousness you complain about, super long and difficult codes, boring and long levels, unfair difficulty, tediousness, frustrating controls, glitchiness, but Kyle Justin really helped make it special with his songs! Scrotum guns! Hahaha. And I loved the skits with the blowing up car and Kyle getting stuck in the couch! 😀

  • March 7, 2013 at 5:07 am

Oh I can already see this as one of the classics, it really brought me back to the past, great one!! The singing part is what makes it stick out tho, I was fucking choking while listening to that shit. Nintendo dork, pffhahaha!!

  • Jel-K

    March 7, 2013 at 5:43 am

Excellent and funny; i think the scrotum guns have traumatized many children =D!

I just had to login and comment: The car scene was brilliant! :)>

  • March 7, 2013 at 7:24 am

Awesome vid James! I loved it! You know what game you should do next? You should do The Bard’s Tale on NES or better yet, do Eye of the Beholder on SNES. Muthafucka Mike can help you out a lot on the game play and stuff because he seems like a big D&D nerd. Would love to see the frustration from getting lost, every next turn is death, the anger…THE ANGER!! Anyways..keep up the great work, can’t wait for the next episode!!!!

  • March 7, 2013 at 7:25 am

The nostalgia is very wellcome. Thank you.

    March 7, 2013 at 7:31 am

Yay Kyle!!!! Kyle was hilarious this episode!! You were too James!!!! This was a really terrible game, I’m glad I never wasted time playing it. It was great seeing a new AVGN episode. Made it worth being up so early in the damn morning >.> Let’s remember to feed and water Kyle this time, shall we? Was so glad to hear the theme song again! And really, enjoy your life, we fans can be patient!

  • March 7, 2013 at 8:35 am

I’m so glad Kyle is back. Oh lord haha is that Mike cracking up in the background at the end?

Funny episode Good work James and Kyle!

  • March 7, 2013 at 8:38 am

During my daily Cinemassacre.com check I was very satisfied to see there was a new episode!

Too bad this time I didn’t enjoy it as usual. For some reason I was bored sometimes. The game is well commented, the jokes were all right and James his facial expression still is amazing but the comeback of Kyle wasn’t a total success. Don’t get me wrong who didn’t mis the famous theme song and Kyle’s guest appearance, but the singing was only funny for a moment and not the entire last 10 (?) minutes. At the end, I was getting more frustrated by those bad song lines…

Maybe I will have to watch it again to revise my opinion, but as a fan of the first hour and collector of all the AVGN DVD’s I think I can say what a good AVGN episode is to me.

Anyway, it can not be always perfect for everybody. So again many thanks James for all the effort you always make, even during these very busy times! You still are my number one review hero 😉 Good luck with the pregnancy and the AVGN movie!!

  • Topper Harley

    March 7, 2013 at 8:43 am

Well done Team! Great to see Kyle in this video… Now i have 110 Episodes to watch till the next episode 😉
Keep up the great work James. I hope i will see some future horror movies, directed by you.

Often i show friends the AVGN, they laugh and watch the show in their home alone. But i know that they won’t ever be as fascinated about your person as i am. Films like “Cinemassacre 200” or “The dragon in my Dreams” show the real character behind the person. I love your humor, i love your character. Keep up the good work and enjoy your life.

Thumps up for you, Kyle and Mike!

I kinda love that you only have time for a few Nerd videos per year. It’s always exciting when there’s a new Cinemassacre video, but its 20x more exciting when that happens to be an AVGN episode. It’s like waiting all summer for your favorite TV show to come back in the fall!

Man, it made me so glad to see this new episode. It felt like a new twist on the old Nerd style; definitely reminded me somewhat of the Spiderman Epsiode, and actually felt more like an early episode to me than most of the other newer ones. To see that this one came out of a period of writer’s block and yet was so different and fun is a testament to your creativity. Long live the Nerd!

now… THIS is what i’ve been waiting for! A perfect alignment of you two make an epic episode boys! Boom! More random songs along with J’s dialogue is gold!

Comic Sans? really? You are better than that!

      March 7, 2013 at 11:51 am

    March 7, 2013 at 10:35 am

Awesome and welcome back Kyle! I loved this episode. I have always loved when performers lose their shit because something is so hilarious that they cant possibly keep their composure. Its petty obvious Kyle was killing it and I am very glad you chose to not completely edit your reactions out and reshoot those segments. This video had a sincere feeling and was a great way to bring Kyle back into the world.

That tingling sensation you are feeling, James, is me sending good vibes your way for the movie. Do not be alarmed.

Ikari Warriors sucked. Play Guerrilla War on the NES. It’s like Ikari Warriors on steroids.

Considering how often you have to put in that revive code I think this game might have secretly been an endorsement for the band ABBA.

    March 7, 2013 at 12:05 pm

Lol, one of the funniest videos in a long time…I loved how kyle always “sang” and played a melody while he commented the game haha.

    YES! Finally a new episode!

  • Grizly

    March 7, 2013 at 12:51 pm

.. Guerilla warfare! that was the same style gameplay but much better and definatly worth mentioning as much as the vhs of secret video game tricks codes and strategies 😛 . Take good rest, General Kawasaki!

  • March 7, 2013 at 1:08 pm

Sorry but I will be the hater and say that kyle guy and his song/wanting to be funny is just shitty.

I prefered the show without him and his stupid hat. Give it a break hipster with a guitar, you belong at chapters or starbucks collecting change

    James, good stuff
    Guitar guy, you suck

  • March 7, 2013 at 1:11 pm

I really enjoyed that, but I wish you would stay focused on the review and cut down a little on the special effects.
    PLEEEEEEAAAASE DON’T turn into JonTron!

Great video James and good to see Kyle again!

    March 7, 2013 at 1:13 pm

That was a great episode and a nice touch having Kyle Justin there with the old-school rendition of the theme song returning and playing the game with you. I hope all’s going well with completing the movie and preparing for the baby. Just keep making these cool videos and I can’t wait to see the movie when it’s done! =)

    March 7, 2013 at 2:08 pm

I read the previous journal before watching this and I could see what James meant and I liked it. It’s a great AVGN ep and does remind a lot of Spiderman one. I really want too see James, Mike, Kyle and Kevin all in the one ep. Maybe a 4 player game with the guitar guy, a character from the game and ninja master would be awesome!

Also is it ever explained how Kyle died in the first place? People are saying it was because of the crazy castle ep and others because he starved too death during the time the movie takes place and others from .

  • Grafwichmann

    March 7, 2013 at 2:25 pm

He’s back! The man behind the couch! Seriously, that was one of the best episodes yet, and well worth the wait.

For the first time in four years, Guitar Guy is back! I was wondering how he could come back after we previously saw him as a skeleton.

Hey James and mike they are making a new FRANKENSTEIN movie James i known how much you love you old horror movies im a big fan my self.

  • March 7, 2013 at 9:20 pm

just want to say, i love the new camera, in high def and finally in 16:9! looks great!

however the review itself :< seemed like a more serious review, remove the novelty of Kyle's resurrection and songs.. the review was way too serious, just like the other random video game reviewers on the net rather than the typical AVGN fashion of going way over the top and being ridiculous without the extra novelty added. Probably just the game choice and your busy schedule 🙂

Anyways, keep up the good work!

More about comedy now than game rage, generally more subdued but that’s not a bad thing…gotta change. And this as a really natural episode. Kinda like, just james and kyle chilling and bsing around. Beautiful

  • March 7, 2013 at 11:06 pm

Pure motherfuckin’ genius. but unlike Kyle, i DO remember the episode with the scrotum guns…

    March 7, 2013 at 11:17 pm

  • HomingMissiles

    March 8, 2013 at 12:08 am

I just can’t get enough of this video. It’s very loose and relaxed, something I kinda missed in the past few episodes. Towards the end, it also turns into the weirdest music video I’ve ever seen. Goddamn Kyle, you’re good.

  • March 8, 2013 at 12:38 am

    You do it again Nerd!
Btw whow! excellent quality in this new video!

I now see that my video gaming hobby has been incomplete all these years. It will never be complete until I get my very own minstrel to sing about games as I play through them.

  • Kuuenbu

    March 8, 2013 at 2:31 am

As much as I can’t get enough of “Where did their haaaaaaaiiir go?”, it’s actually quite unsettling to hear when you think about where Rolfe’s is going. 🙁 Not to mention he’s been getting progressively pudgier over the course of AVGN’s run; 5 years from now he’ll probably look like Jason Alexander. :O

Back on the subject of Kyle: am I the only one getting his guitar panned toward the right speaker even though he’s playing on the left side of the screen? It’s probably a studio overdub, but it’s still awkward and just seems like a really glaring oversight.

  • Kuuenbu

    March 8, 2013 at 2:35 am

As for the “it’s not angry enough” thing, he does say in the video that the game is “not horrible”. Anyone who’s watched more than a handful of episodes knows that his reactions are proportional to how he personally feels about the game. Eventually we’ll get another ”Dick Tracy” or ”Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde” and see him totally freak the fuck out again.

  • Kuuenbu

    March 8, 2013 at 2:38 am

Oh crap, got my codes mixed up again.

    March 8, 2013 at 5:20 am

i do remember ikari warriors I being pretty shitty…i also remember playing ikari warriors III and i thought that game was awesome…ikari warriors I had weird levels and was pretty damn impossible without the code!!!

  • Paul Sendell

    March 8, 2013 at 6:17 am

hahaha i love how you did the opening theme halfway through the video!
i didn’t think it was going to happen! so fucking epic xD

my only criticism is that your games room doesn’t look the same any more… have you moved things around?
it just looks much darker and a lot more condensed to me?
    i could be wrong…

you know how, for example, you watch The Simpsons for years and you kind of make a layout of their house in your head…
well i have done the same thing with your games room. and now it looks a different! i don’t like change 😛

  • Senna4ever

    March 8, 2013 at 6:38 am

    Ohhhhh, HD camera.

Is it just me, or is The Nerd not angry anymore?
He’s more like The Slightly Annoyed Video Game Nerd.
The comedy is more subtle than previous years (is potential fatherhood calming James?).

Don’t get me wrong. I actually like the change. The inane ranting gets stale. This more calming, subtle humour is far more interesting. Dare I also say, better written too? Anyone can write and perform angry swearing. But it takes more talent to pull off genuine humour.

Oh and Kyle was a class act. Love his music, you can tell a lot of it was done on the fly as James was nearly cracking up with laughter.

Good work James and Kyle. I like the new “calming” style more…keep it up.
More of the theme tune. The breaking the 4th wall bit was cute…and factual.

  • Jukka AK

    March 8, 2013 at 6:47 am

What were they thinking when they made this NES-version? Ikari Warriors on Amiga were great game.

    • Senna4ever

      March 8, 2013 at 5:53 pm

Pretty much all NES ports were terrible.
The NES had some great original games, but for some reason they would port games that just did not work…and they kept making bad ports despite the fact the ports were crap.

    March 8, 2013 at 9:38 am

Hey James I remember back in the day Ikari Warriors was a hit classic game and I had borrowed it from one friend then went over another friend’s house to show him. He had another game that was sorta like Ikari Warriors that he thought was better so we ended up playing that game more. It was called Commando. Commando wasn’t as popular as Ikari Warriors but there were people who thought it was better and I feel it was a classic game as well. You should of mentioned that game in this episode.

Hey, for all of you who regularly suggest James and Mike play some newer games, like the Halo ones fro Xbox, here’s an even better suggestion. James and Mike, please read this article http://www.littleenglishhaloblog.com/2013/03/ever-wanted-to-own-copy-of-halo-2600.html If you get the game I’ll definitely watch your review 😀

    March 8, 2013 at 12:56 pm

Thank you for this! I was inspired enough to finally register and log in here.

This video brings back the memories. Memories of my brother and I burning up 3 or 4 hours on the old NES, playing Ikari Warriors. We always ended up dying for good at the end of level 3, right in front of that dead general boss, soon after the “A-BB-A” code stopped working. I knew about the hidden staircase but I never knew about the 4th level.

All things considered, I don’t think that it is a terribly shitty game. I haven’t played it in years, so perhaps my tastes have changed to a point where I wouldn’t like it anymore. But my impression is that Ikari Warriors is best enjoyed as a fun way to whittle away a lazy weekend afternoon but only if you have someone to play with in the two player mode.

But still, thank you again for a great video Mr. Rolfe! I hope you and Kyle got to run over enemy soldiers in your tanks, that’s the best part I think, as a little kid it was about as violent as it got for games in the 1980’s!

  • Thomas

    March 8, 2013 at 1:30 pm

I love the whole scene when Kyle shoots himself with the Zapper and starts blinking. Just awsome. Nice done guys.

“You motherfuckin’ Nintendo dork” and “Pink fortress fuck” had me on the floor for about ten minutes.

  • greedo

    March 8, 2013 at 1:47 pm

Man, thanks again for bringing Kyle back! I missed him and his jazzy musical stylings! Especially in this vid.

  • J

    March 8, 2013 at 1:47 pm

Also, something about the lamenting guitar songs captures the Nerd’s playing these shitty games/being traumatized as a child character perfectly somehow. Just sayin’ :p

  • Senna4ever

    March 8, 2013 at 5:59 pm

Wait, the code to revive was ABBA.
Were the developers fans of 1970’s Swedish pop music?

    • Kuuenbu

      March 8, 2013 at 6:53 pm

I’m surprised it took 33 pages for someone to mention that.

Maybe James and Kyle were intentionally trying to resist making a reference because, since the code was entered so often, not mentioning the band would have been a test of nigh-impossible endurance. Much like the Ikari Warriors game itself.

  • Joshua Brown

    March 8, 2013 at 7:01 pm

love it, this episode will go down as one of my favorites. but, will you ever review jim powers lost in 3d? that game has been agrivating me for years, ill mail it to you if you need it, but you can buy it for about 50 cents haha

  • March 8, 2013 at 7:34 pm

Mr. Rolfe, I want to take the next couple of moments to tell you that your work is amazing. And don’t listen to all the hater fuck-boys out there. They don’t know shit. The true fans can sit through 20,30,120 minutes of your work. We can also wait however long it takes for new material to come out. Very excited to see the movie btw!

  • phantomstrider

    March 8, 2013 at 8:11 pm

No no. We were getting very tired of the theme song. I didn’t think it was that great the first time, yet alone the 500th time. Don’t get me wrong, I think you do great movies, but I didn’t particularly want to see the theme song back.

  • Samuel Coronado

    March 8, 2013 at 8:32 pm

So i have been an avgn since the beginning. ive had tons of laughs throughout the years and have liked seeing James take avgn to where it is now…but lately these videos are boring. The quality is better but dialogue and the essence of what avgn used to be is worse and kinda lazy. After years of triumphs i think it may be time to close. It will never be the same as before. It may be best to keep it as it was. i was looking forward to real laughs from what it was prompted to be but I’m not laughing anymore just allowing and dragging play to maybe the older entertainment. Sorry James, but thank you for all your work. Hope the movie does well.

    Another great video!

I swear, when you resurrected Kyle with the A,B,B,A trick, I just lost it. Seriously, laughed so damned hard, that I had to stop the video to catch my breath.

But you really did address the frustrations I had when my friends would come over & play this with me. Guess I was more patient, since I had to switch out 3 friends, just to finish the game.

  • March 8, 2013 at 10:47 pm

I think people asked if this was Rambo because the character sprite for the hero and the first level look EXACTLY like the game “Rambo: First Blood, Part 2” for the Sega Master System. Check it out, you’ll see what I’m talking about. lol

Awesome work, as always! And great to see Kyle Justin back in a Nerd video! If it’s true that you thought fans were sick of the theme song, rest assured *I* never got sick of it. I like both the original versions and the fan cover versions. Still, not having used it as often lately makes us all appreciate it more when it comes back, so perhaps there was a method to the madness! 🙂 Congrats to you and your wife on your forthcoming child! Looking forward to the Nerd Movie and the next video (I know you’re busy, so take your time!)! Cheers!

  • March 9, 2013 at 10:01 pm

I’ve been with you since your first AVGN videos, and this has to be one of my favorites. Kyle’s return and singing put this one over the top.

  • March 9, 2013 at 10:25 pm

hahahaha I replayed “tank in the water, can’t get out, BIG MOTHAFUCKIN’ TANK” about 10 times.

its a complete fucking episode again? bitchin tits!

    March 10, 2013 at 12:36 am

Hurrah the return of Kyle! Just isn’t AVGN without him and the classic theme.

I remember playing this one a lot in the arcades, never knew it had more than one stage… James’ observations brought back some classic rage as I was never able to get past one part that was mostly water (where you move slow as fuck) and then get surrounded by the underwater guys that can’t be harmed, death becoming unavoidable. Glad to know I didn’t miss much by giving up on it!

  • March 10, 2013 at 7:24 am

best video in a long time, sorry for posting again, but this takes me back like 5-6 + years. This stuff is what made me follow you in the first place.

  • March 10, 2013 at 8:12 am

I’ve been watching your shows for years, and the comments always surprise me.
It’s like, for some people, you’re engaged in producing all the time the very same kind of episodes, once or twice a month, for free…
You’re a visual artist, so of course you’ll evolve, of course you’ll come with new ideas, new shows, and one day or another you’ll even stop the AVGN because you’re tired of it. That’s normal in an artist lifetime.
So how can some so-called fans complain that the AVGN is “not the same as it was” ??? Hopefully it changed, otherwise it would mean that you’re mentally stuck, and that art doesn’t appeal you anymore !

So, keep on doing whatever you want/like (AVGN, YKWB, or other stuff…), we’re confident in your talent so we’ll follow and support you 😉

    March 10, 2013 at 2:25 pm

I LOVE this episode!! James and Kyle thank you both very much for your time and effort on this one. I don’t know how long this one must have taken, but clearly (like all of your work) it is worth every second it took to make it. This episode alone is the reason why I finally felt compelled to register with the site and comment. I have been watching nerd episodes since 2008 and it is so cool to see Kyle back and reviewing the game with the nerd. I really hope to see more cameo’s of Kyle doing two player game reviews as I feel his character adds a lot of dimention to the Nerd character in how he reviews. Especially in this one how the nerd is making fun of the game and then how Kyle sits back and makes fun of both the game and Nerd in a way. I can seriously go on for a while about all there is to like, but I’ll cut it short. James and Kyle awesome work both of you and to any who helped in the production. THANK YOU!

    March 10, 2013 at 4:37 pm

Wow, I haven’t finish watching all of this episode, but it is noticeable that the show is approaching a new direction, or more like returning back to its roots with a new concept. And I’m liking it alot alot alot! Forgive my critique, but the dialogue doesnt seem too script like in the last set of episodes, seems more real and honestly said. With that mentioned and with the return of Kyle, AVGN has risen again, can’t wait to finish watching it all!

  • March 10, 2013 at 6:53 pm

    Awesome nerd video!

  • March 11, 2013 at 12:16 am

I’ve watched this one repeatedly. It’s just hilarious with Kyle making up songs about the different things going on. Especially at the end of the game. I crack up every single time. It might be funny to have this happen in future episodes.

  • March 11, 2013 at 1:27 am

To those of you complaining about the length in between releases… You haven’t seen anything yet. Wait until they actually HAVE the baby, or go on tour with film. We will be lucky if James doesn’t fold up shop right then and there.

Count your blessings while you have them, because they might just be gone tomorrow.

    March 11, 2013 at 12:13 pm

Watching this episode reminded me that the Nerd does really shine when he has someone to interact with (Kyle, Ninja, Pat, etc.)

And you know what I acually am suprised what James havn’t done yet? A AVGN/Board James episode. Think about it. The Nerd, James and Mike playing a bunch of Board Game-themed videogames. There’s plenty right? Mario Party, Monopoly, that Candyland ripoff Bible Buffet.

Just throw in a Mr. Bucket-like storyline and you’re golden!

It sucks man.Your just not the angry video game nerd i used to really love. U just dont seem angry anymore. You were so much more passionate and better. From the start til 2010 and some episodes in 2011. And Seems like ur just focusing on being funny more then anything. To me the shows lost its magic. But i still enjoy it none the less

  • March 12, 2013 at 2:51 am

It was awesome to see Kyle get the spotlight in the episode. How much of this was improv? In past videos we never see you smile, or laugh, as you wanted to stay in character. But, in this video we get the rare pleasure of seeing you cut loose and just have fun. It was a rare treat.

I hated this game from the start. My brother played it a ton, but I only played it a handful of times. I stuck with Jackal instead. You should do The Mad Max games sometime! I remember the first one especially. Great video!! Totally Hilarious!!

Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (or SMB 2 in Japan). Not a bad game, so maybe not AVGN material, but at least do a video of yourself playing it and getting pissed the fuck off so the rest of us feel less bad when we try to play it.

    • Eddie Novak

      March 14, 2013 at 9:55 am

You’ll probably need Mike for this one because this game is a motherfucker and so is he.

  • March 14, 2013 at 9:31 pm

The nerd is so calm in this episode! I think I even heard a soft “fuck”! Is he on some medication?

    March 16, 2013 at 12:32 pm

I completely forgot what killed Kyle before. What made him a skeleton behind the futon? starvation?

    • Santa Horse

      March 18, 2013 at 9:28 am

When AVGN returned from his seven-month+ hiatus last year with the Schwarzenegger games review, they showed the skeleton for the first time. The implication being obviously that Kyle had been behind the couch the whole time while James was filming the movie, and had supposedly died of thirst or starvation. In real life of course, he would still have had a great deal of rotten flesh on his bones and James would probably have been prosecuted for negligence. Luckily, it’s a comedy show.

    March 17, 2013 at 8:51 am

I was at an arcade yesterday and started playing “Commando.” Looks like a graphically better version of this game. The layout and gameplay are the same. The enemies and weapons all behave the same way. Is Ikari Warriors the home version of Commando?

  • March 18, 2013 at 4:29 pm

Like Capcom’s Ghosts and Goblins and 1942, this NES port was outsourced to a company called Micronics which explains why it’s so BAD.

  • Player-1

    March 18, 2013 at 4:55 pm

    Fuck doing this alone!

  • March 18, 2013 at 11:19 pm

Nice to see Kyle back again! Thanks for bringing him back to life using the Ikari code James! Great episode!

  • March 19, 2013 at 2:54 am

I didn’t go through every single comment, but I was also looking for and didn’t see anyone mentioning the alien levels and the weird code that I don’t remember (I don’t remember the actual ‘code’, but I do remember that it was ridiculously complicated). I was probably 8 or 9 at the time… but I specifically remember that there is a code for Ikari Warriors that lets you start in some weird alien world levels. Not sure if the music was actually different, or a glitch, but I think it was. We used to call one of them the ‘bee hive level’. It was definitely this game, and as long ago as it was, we played this game in epic sessions on weekends (knowing the ABBA code), and I remember this about Ikari Warriors. Knowing what I know now, this ‘other code’ was like a programmer/game tester code, or something along those lines, and in this game it allowed you to go to some weird ‘levels’. Do you know about this?

Just cause you have a thousand fan boys licking your balls and actually thinking they are friends with does not mean you deserve any respect or recognition, and I know your arrogant enough to believe you do. and lets be honest, You couldnt care less about any of your ‘fans’. You just assume you should have them. dude fuck you. Fuck all of you

Some games I wish you would review in the future:

Contra iii isn’t a bad game at all so it wouldn’t be good for a nerd video, but I’d be interested to see how far you and Mike can get without cheating. This game has been hate pissing the balls out of my scrotum and seeing someone else play it would make me feel like less of a cummy pool of diarrhea out of a monkey whore’s asshole.

  • April 7, 2013 at 4:03 am

I’m just gonna come right out and say it.

This review was an absolute bore. It was probably the worst one you’ve ever done and considering the fact that you’ve significantly reduced the amount of review’s you’ve done so you could spend the last two years playing movie maker, I think you could have done a lot better than whatever the hell this review was supposed to be.

It pretty much all boils down to it being an uninteresting review about an uninteresting game. Are you seriously telling me that you couldn’t find something more interesting to talk about? Are you really so uninspired that the only thing you could pull out of that collection you’ve shown off to us was a cheap Rambo knock-off?

How about an episode about the Neo Geo? or some of the other ambiguous game systems that might have gone unnoticed by most of us. Why not a video where you get to do what you do best and pull us in with your extensive knowledge of both the history and the technology.

Do you realize that I got an ‘A’ in my history of video games course because of your videos about Sega CD, Jaguar, Atari, Colecovison and the Odyssey? Do you realize that I was the only student in that course of 100 who new about the video game crash of the early 80’s before it was talked about by the teacher?

This review was beneath what you’re capable of and if this is all just a case of you getting burned out on doing AVGN than just say so and bow out gracefully, because this review makes it very clear to me that your days as the Nerd are pretty much over and done with.

I dont know why, but now AVGN beign all polished up, (perfect camera ect.) i am really missing the amateurish style avgn used to have back in the days!
it seemed more personal, it felt like im with him in his personal gaming paradise, playing games and drinkin beer.

when he woke kyle and the slow AVGN theme played
it made me kinda sad, felt like the “good old times” are gone.

of course all this is unavoidable, because things tend to envolve, but sometimes not in the right direction. ( at least for me)

i hope this whole text was not to confusing, but this isnt my first language “im sorry!

Anyways, you are doing a great job, keep it up!

I got the third one in a bundle from goodwill, and it wasn’t that bad. Kind of annoying with the hit detection, and people ganging up on you, but instant re-spawn and unlimited continues.

16:55, The best song I believe. I’d sing this at an open mic haha! I love that the Nerd tries not to laugh in every song!

  • May 20, 2013 at 2:28 pm

Sorry to be the guy to point this out but why does the guy that sings the code say “Start” as the last button if when read in the book you said it was “Select”? (I’m pretty sure)

Awesome Nerd episode as always… i’ve watched this several times now and it’s still funny as hell. I can’t eat for the Nerd movie… hey James, did you hear their digging for the Atari E.T. game cartridges and other stuff Atari buried for a documentary? how ironic that their doing that, and your AVGN movie will come out with a similar thing so after the documentary is made or before, depending on when you get it finished?

This game is worse than “Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick” on the PS2. I got a headache just by watching your glitches and cheap deaths!

I had this game as a kid on the Amstrad on cassette. There was no life code that I knew about and when you died you had to reload the game. Yeah, reload the fucking game as in rewind the tape and wait 20 min for the game to load back up. Needless to say I played it very rarely and never got past the first screen or two.

Wow, I can’t remember the last time I laughed my ass off so much!! James and Kyle are a perfect pair– excellent on-screen chemistry (not in a gay way…not that there’s anything wrong with it!) Very excellent episode and a great comedy team. I hope to see Kyle used this much in future episodes!

I’ve commented on this video before but man, rewatching it again today, certainly the best music of all of the AVGN videos! Lol!! Music can really enhance any watching experience, I especially liked the catchy music from the very beginning of the video. It really flowed well throughout the video 😀 Hope to hear some more of Justin’s music in the AVGN movie
