WB Kyle! Good Stuff.
OMG great to see new nerd episode and return of original open theme ty very much.
March 6, 2013 at 3:55 pm
Nice! Just was watching the Atari Sports episode and nice to see a new episode just pop up! AVGN forever!
March 6, 2013 at 4:17 pm
he’s baaack! about fucking time!!
March 6, 2013 at 4:22 pm
Definitely one of the best and funniest episodes in a long time. It’s great to see Kyle again!
March 6, 2013 at 4:25 pm
You know james im one a huge fan since back in 05 and am still loyal to this day. i know your super busy with the movie and pregnancy and all, but come on man 3 months? and the thing is you release other videos, which i totally love, all the time. You fans all love you and are die hard loyal, but you most famous for the nerd, so is one a month too much to ask for? please do not take this as a criticism in any way, i love everything you release and check it daily. I do notice too that your recent videos have been incredibly high quality and better than 20 minutes lately, but we fans would love a five minute nerd every two weeks than your amaxingepics every 3, and i do love both. Please just not so long of a wait, Love your work and respect you incredibly
March 9, 2013 at 9:14 pm
James has said the nerd episodes are more work and he gets bigger and crazier ideas for them. He also WANTS to do the longer form episodes, and the other side videos as the entertaining filler to hold you. If he’s not doing content he wants to do, it’s not going to be good.
April 28, 2013 at 2:26 pm
Funny thing about Ikari Warriors, that game might be the first game of SNK for the NES. Welcome Back Kyle btw.
March 6, 2013 at 4:33 pm
*Sorry meant to write:
James, ive been a huge fan since back in 05 and i am still loyal to this day. i know your super busy with the movie and pregnancy and all, but come on man, 3 months? This is not a complaint but the thing is, you release other videos like sim city, which i totally love by the way, all the time. Your fans all love you and are die hard loyal, but you are in fact most famous for the nerd, so is one a month too much to ask for? please do not take this as a criticism in any way, i love everything you release and check the site daily, hourly sometimes. dont get me wrong, I do notice too that your recent videos have been incredibly high quality and better than 20 minutes long lately, but i know as a fan i would love a five minute nerd episode every two weeks just as much as your amaxing epics every 3 months, and again i do absolutely love both. If possible, Please just not so long of a wait, Love your work and respect you incredibly
March 6, 2013 at 4:39 pm
No offense taken, but the simple to answer to “Is one a month too much to ask for?” is YES. These videos each take a whole week or more to make. That’s 1/4 of the month taken out of my schedule. You mentioned the movie and the pregnancy. Put it all together. Glad you love the videos and thanks for being a fan.
March 6, 2013 at 6:43 pm
James, I have seen all your videos, they have given me good laughs and awesome feeling of nostalgia. Through the years I have enjoyed all work, not only AVGN, the top ten lists are equally awesome.
As an admirer, I ask you to just chill out man, be with your wife and do whatever you want. We the real fans who are not spoiled shits will always wait. I too am married and know how pregnancy is time consuming.
In a way, the problem with beeing too big is that you reach a level of fame where people just watch you because your popular. I doubt they have ever suffered the god damn jump of ass that was the jump on TMNT on nes.
Anyway don’t know if you will read this, but take care man and thanks for the laugs!
March 6, 2013 at 6:57 pm
Yes, just do what you have to. Most people understand that time exists, and as such, we have to decide which comes first, either making an internet video, or working on things for the family you are creating. All the best, James. Just give us videos when you have time. That is how it is supposed to work.
Take care, James.
March 6, 2013 at 10:34 pm
BEST….REPLY….EVER……..lol the simple answer is YES!!!Thanks for being a fan!!! Pure gold!!! James rocks our socks!!!
March 7, 2013 at 9:16 am
Thanks for finding ANY time to do a Nerd episode… Love the condensed look of the Nerd room with the video store setup. Makes the shelves of games look much more menacing haha.
March 8, 2013 at 2:45 am
LOL….how is it that some believe you exist solely for their entertainment and forget that it is a gift you give us? Well I don’t…thank you for all the hard work you put into these! Great to have your talent in our lives. Thanks!
March 10, 2013 at 6:53 am
That was one fan-friggin-tastic episode… Given all the stuff you have going on, I was surprised at the quality of this one. As someone who has previously taken media communications/video editing at college, I can assure everyone that these take a lot of time and effort. Thanks for this episode… I enjoyed it immensely.
March 10, 2013 at 10:27 pm
Love your AVGN videos James, Ive seen them ALL, and i think im gonna revisit each on of them again!
March 7, 2013 at 6:11 am
this is a film website, not a game website. Most of the content is going to be film related. The AVGN is just a character that he came up with, and not what he is most famous for. People like me want to see more movie reviews and commentary’s. I love the AVGN episodes, but I for one do not play video games since I was a kid, so It just brings back memories for me. FILM is where the heart is!!!
July 16, 2013 at 1:38 pm
yes but how many cinmessacre fans would there be without avgn? all im saying
March 7, 2013 at 1:10 pm
Clearly you don’t understand film/video production very well and also aren’t recognizing how important this movie is to JR’s future film career. I also miss the frequent episodes and am less than thrilled when Mike posts a game review, but stop being a whining bitch for a second and realize how much time goes into what JR actually does. Support him for what he’s planning for the future and not complain, or else you’re not really much of a fan.
March 7, 2013 at 11:48 pm
What the hell is the point of your comment? Your such a loyal fan and check his site daily but don’t get why it takes him much longer to put out episodes now? And then you say that you realize they’re better quality and longer than when he put out episodes every 2 weeks but then ask him to put out short rushed episodes just so you can watch half assed episodes. James isn’t just about the nerd and works on other things, and if your such a fan you should know this. I just had to know because this is the most condescending post I’ve ever seen.
July 16, 2013 at 1:57 pm
No shit he works on other things, but bottom line he is as big as he is today because of avgn, period. He became so popular when he was in his avgn hayday of 8 to 15 minute videos bi weekly. other that the movie I would think nerd would be a top priority. believe it or not everyone out there isn’t a die hard avgn fan checking the site daily in anticipation like some of us are, and I fear the longer and longer these videos take to be released the less main stream he becomes. I think james is beyond talented, but where would he be without avgn? would you know him? I commend and anticipate ALL future AND non nerd related projects, im only trying to make the point that if avgn is your bread and butter, maybe give it a little bit more attention. looking back I hate the way my comment came off and I did not mean to be condescending in the least. Have you ever thought about what he actually does for a living though, how he earns a check? I think he is one of the best out there but it is beyond difficult to get a start in the industry and I truly believe that the movie is his definite ticket in, and the more fans that see the avgn movie the better. and the best way to make this happen is how? Maximum amount of fans at time of release, and when did most of us become fans? When videos where shorter and came out more often, that’s all im saying. theres no way for me to win here, bottom line I wish I could see more avgn, even if it meant shorter vids, that’s it, but of course I did not mean at the expense of quality either, come on. I think he had triple a quality 5 years ago, and still does now, and all I want is everyone to know THAT THE VIDEO ANGRY VIDEO GAME NERD IS THE GOD OF REVIEW and I want the movie to make tens of millions, be purchased and receive national attention. Don’t you?
March 6, 2013 at 4:37 pm
AVGN = best show on the Internets
March 9, 2013 at 3:20 am
After watching this episode a few times, wasn’t a huge fan of it. I didn’t find the “game play/what were thinking?!” footage as appealing as others. I’m not going to say “AVGN is dead” or anything like that because honestly, I’ve liked the last few Episodes are stellar. This one seemed..too “abstract”..like it wasn’t about the game itself but more about Kyle singing songs. You don’t have to “out-do” yourself IMO or try “new things” for AVGN episodes, I could laugh at the same “69 a grizzly bear” type stuff for the rest of my life and never find it old.
March 6, 2013 at 4:42 pm
Glorious day! I’ve been waiting for this!
March 6, 2013 at 4:44 pm
Yay, thanks Kyle! I really missed the theme song. James, listen to the guy once in a while, will you? YA NERD! 🙂
March 6, 2013 at 4:50 pm
Believe it or not Kenny, you’re not representative of all of the fans. I prefer him not burning out like before, and I prefer the episodes to be high quality like this. If he’s making them on a schedule he’s going to get sick of it much faster and it’ll get stale much faster. Don’t forget, we’ve got a whole movie to look forward to.
March 6, 2013 at 6:45 pm
The new genration of douchbags thrive on thinking they deserve everything. I blame the parents
March 7, 2013 at 10:44 am
July 16, 2013 at 1:35 pm
I meant high quality as in hd, not production. Back in the day a video was 8 minutes or so and twice a month, but now the huge 20 minute beasts but take forever to release, that’s all im saying.
March 6, 2013 at 4:51 pm
hahaha this was great. good to see kyle again.
March 6, 2013 at 4:54 pm
March 6, 2013 at 4:56 pm
Welcome back again Nerd. And welcome back to the Guitar Guy as well! Good to see you and Kyle is still friends and are still working together! Now let’s just hope Kyle’s in the Movie! Even for only cameos 😀
March 6, 2013 at 5:09 pm
And what a creative way to bring him back man! Also, it’s a bliss to be heating the theme song again! I hope he and it are here to stay, but next it’s be awesome to hear a more heavy version like the Classic one most of us are used to. Also, it’s funny how socially awkard the Nerd seems at first around the Guitar Guy! I guess that does make sense, seeing as he often gets words and their pronounciation wrong. Also, the lighting, lenses, angles and color-grading is great. And the overall image quality. It seems less compressed with less compression artefacts! Much higher production value in some ways! I have a question though, James. It seems as if you’ve moved the couch. Did you do that for the Movie?
March 6, 2013 at 5:15 pm
James, your focus and acting seems better too. It must have been because you got your well-deserved rest after the shooting in L.A. You must’ve been burned out, just like a few years back after spittig the episodes out more regularly and faster. However it seems like the Nerd is enjoying the game more than he usually would with these games. Actually, it kinda firs. I mean, we really needed some og that “innocent” and fun Nerd humor!
Glad Kyle is back, he seems down though, cheer him up Nerd! anger was mostly given by him, but was very entertained the whole time. didn’t expect to see a new episode today
Now I’m convinced: Anytime I decide to watch a lot of past AVGN episodes it’s a signal that a new one is coming. I must have a hidden radar or something.
March 6, 2013 at 4:59 pm
Kyle was fantastic I might add, thanks for bringing him back even if it was just for an episode. A fine episode BTW! You two did great!
March 6, 2013 at 5:01 pm
really good episode. you could tell that kyle’s charecter was just bored as he was forced to watch the nerd play the game towards the end. really funny most of the time. and the nerd room looks amazing. i bet that is how it is going to look in the movie. 😀
March 6, 2013 at 5:03 pm
supreme, awesome, excellent episode dudes!
March 6, 2013 at 5:05 pm
lol best chorus ever
March 6, 2013 at 5:16 pm
Great one! Did you get a new camera? Everything looks sharper for some reason.
March 6, 2013 at 5:19 pm
Too bad you cut out the intro song. I love the intro song just as much as the rest.
March 6, 2013 at 5:20 pm
Ok, I was to fast with my complaint =)
haha nice job hiding your laughs behind the controller!
Great episode! Oh my god it’s good to see more with Kyle, and the songs… just awesome xD
Very good work guys, very good work!
March 6, 2013 at 5:26 pm
Btw I’d like to see some outtakes of this one if possible, thanks!
March 6, 2013 at 5:27 pm
WELCOME BACK JUSTIN! Thanks for finally doing another episode and for bringing back the theme James, The episodes truly felt naked without it!
March 6, 2013 at 5:29 pm
Great to see a new episode. Awesome as always James!
I guess the dead man behind the desk reminds the Guitar Guy of himself.
March 6, 2013 at 5:34 pm
March 6, 2013 at 5:35 pm
Really good episode, i enjoyed watching it a lot! A lot of great humor a long with a funny and in depth game review. I especially like the parts where you’re searching through old books and VHS tapes for tips on how to beat the game, LOL! Been there myself.
March 6, 2013 at 5:37 pm
Great episode! it was a nice idea to bring Kyle back for this episode!
Thank you for putting all this effort and dedication on every video you make.
Greetings from Spain.
March 6, 2013 at 5:42 pm
Amazing comeback, loved the music during revival of the skeleton, can’t believe it’s been 4 years since crazy castle was filmed (early 2009?) with Kyle’s last appearance.
Also was mind blown to hear the theme sung to the credits at the end. Watching this in HD full screen is amazing, definitely a great upgrade in recent episodes.
March 6, 2013 at 5:44 pm
This was so funny, really couldn’t stop laughing at Kyle’s songs.
I hear there is a baby nerd on the way, congrats mate…best thing in the world…until you kid starts eating your games 🙂
March 6, 2013 at 5:53 pm
AVGN THEME SONG IS BACK!
I can honestly feel the love put in this episode 🙂
March 6, 2013 at 5:55 pm
When you can see James holding back the laughter. Hiding behind the controller.
It’s good to see Kyle back in a video. Props to the three of you.
March 6, 2013 at 6:01 pm
Holy shit, that was fucking awesome, Kyle can come out from behind the couch anytime! So funny and perfect for this game.
March 6, 2013 at 6:04 pm
This is one of your best episodes!
March 6, 2013 at 6:05 pm
I missed the song
LOL @ 10:00 and onwards! Kyle should be a regular. He’s got a few decent lines.. but chill out on the extended jam sessions though, little jingles here and there are fine. It makes the show more original and more fun to watch. Also, scrotum guns.
March 6, 2013 at 6:06 pm
James, Thank you so much for FINALLY mentioning the VHS of Video Game Secrets that was my favorite to watch as a kid and it was brand new at about the time i was 8 years old or so. Thanks for Nailin it u hit home again good sir! Please consider doing your memories of that VHS tape!!!!!!!
March 6, 2013 at 6:09 pm
WELCOME BACK NERD!! WELCOME BACK KYLE!!!
March 6, 2013 at 6:10 pm
Welcome Back!!! Welcome Back!!! Welcome Back!!!!…WB Kyle…We all hope to see you More and More!!!
March 6, 2013 at 6:14 pm
March 6, 2013 at 6:16 pm
This was excellent, well worth the wait. Kyle reminded me of Flight of the Conchords, he was hilarious. Keep up the fantastic work!
March 6, 2013 at 6:18 pm
Fantastic episode! Kyle is fucking funny. Hope to see more episodes in the future. Take care man!
March 6, 2013 at 6:22 pm
James is trying not to laugh.
March 6, 2013 at 6:28 pm
Never really played this game but I always assumed it was good, since it spawned two sequels and is a pretty recognized name.
Although I’ve occasionally disagreed with you, after seeing this review I think I can take your word that this one stinks.
The best pard is James trying to hide his breaking up behind the controller.
March 6, 2013 at 6:31 pm
haha, that chorus is frigain amazing…..thanks guys! keep em coming!
March 6, 2013 at 6:33 pm
So happy to see both of you. I feel like I’ve been at a theme park, but the main ride was shut down… you are both so inspirational. Thanks!
March 6, 2013 at 6:38 pm
Yet ANOTHER episode destined for the “Classics”. Way to go James! It was nice to hear the Ol’ AVGN Theme Song and see Kyle again. Looking forward to your next instalment!
March 6, 2013 at 6:41 pm
March 6, 2013 at 6:42 pm

saludos departe de los buenos mexicanos
March 6, 2013 at 6:50 pm
One of the best episodes if not the best, thanks for all the hard work man it’s been crazy watching you develop as a filmmaker! thanks for the endless entertainment, ALL 3 of you!
March 6, 2013 at 6:53 pm
This episode reminds me of American Movie with all the guitar. The lyrics sounded like they were improved which really made me laugh. Love it, thanks to all involved. Great episode.
March 6, 2013 at 6:55 pm
Never played Ikari Warriors much but this episode still had a lot of nostalgic value for me. I was always the kid trying to beat the game while my uninterested friend would get bored, quit, and start fucking around. Great job guys!
March 6, 2013 at 6:58 pm
great episode. good to see ya back.
March 6, 2013 at 7:04 pm
It’s funny to see the AVGN theme song after so long, I always wonder if he’s gonna play it at the beginning of each new episode. Good to see he’s aware the fans want it back.
March 6, 2013 at 7:05 pm
Awesome job! You should definitely do a tour of the nerd room where you and Mike are just hangin’ out, going through your games and stuff. It’d be great extra content on the site!
March 6, 2013 at 7:06 pm
Funny as allways! And Kyle’s songs are very catchy!
March 6, 2013 at 7:07 pm
I was always a much bigger fan of Guerrilla War. You move faster, better graphics, fun weapons power-ups, better levels.
Its funny how most people remember and talk about Ikari Warriors but not Guerrilla War.
March 7, 2013 at 1:06 pm
Guerilla War is fucking awesome! I think that was one of the first NES games I ever beat as a kid…
March 6, 2013 at 7:15 pm
Fucking. AWESOME! Wondering where Kyle went, and this ep was a KJ tour de force! We’re not sick of the song, promise:)
At 18:46, I actually REALLY loved that little tune he made and made his voice pitch go higher. James had to laugh. and it’s like. Fuck. I love you guys so much. My soul is elevated because of your existence. Thank you sincerely. <3
March 6, 2013 at 7:16 pm
Can’t wait to see the making of. 🙂
March 6, 2013 at 7:19 pm
Wow, Kyle, you really do have a great talented singing voice, I agree with most people that the show was always better with the theme song and no it’s not boring at all. I’m really glad your back Kyle. 🙂
March 6, 2013 at 7:21 pm
Yeah Kyle’s back….Is his real last name Justin?
Wow! Thanks, for working on another nerd video. I understand it must be a challenge with your schedule. Love seeing Kyle’s quirky appearances here and there. Oh, and congrats, life will be getting much more hectic before you know it! Appreciate all you guys are doing!
March 6, 2013 at 7:24 pm
Not trying to hate but for Me, this is the first AVGN episode that seemed forced and uninspired.
March 15, 2013 at 1:43 am
yea i agree.
This was an EPIC episode man! Killer Kyle comeback, I know you have to be busy with mini-nerd otw! Thanks guys!
This is the first comment I’ve ever left on here. Surprised to see a new video. I’ve pretty much watched all your videos at least twice. Now I put them on as commentary while I’m working at home. Thanks for the new one. Good luck with your movie and congrats on the baby.
March 6, 2013 at 7:25 pm
awesome and funny as always. Thanks for the effort
March 6, 2013 at 7:28 pm
Oh no, Kyle has turned into Randy Newman! He’s just singing about things he sees!
March 6, 2013 at 7:39 pm
Awww ya, when I saw this video was up it made my day!
March 6, 2013 at 7:45 pm
Bro,I haven’t laughed so hard at an episode for a long time. Excellent job!
March 6, 2013 at 7:49 pm
Awesome episode! Great to see Kyle back and the original theme song. This felt so old school.
This was a surprise to see. Thank you James for the kickass Birthday Gift 😀
March 6, 2013 at 7:59 pm
“Some days you just cant get rid of a bomb” HA HA HA….I had forgotten all about that scene in the Batman movie. Thanks Kyle. One of the funniest moments in ANY Batman. Now i have to watch that movie again.
I can’t be the only one that notices this, but something I really enjoyed about this video was the blend of familiar elements from your other works. This episode seemed to follow a similar format to that of the “James and Mike Play” videos, while it still managed to incorporate the usual Nerd language and outbursts. The throwback motif was nice, too; gotta love the ol’ yellow Comic Sans credits (even though “Produced and Starring James Rolfe doesn’t really make sense grammatically, wouldn’t it be Produced BY and starring?). Speaking of grammatical follies, the piss-poor game-end screen reactions always get me hysterical, hearing Kyle sing this one out and seeing the Nerd’s facial responses kept the gag fresh.
I might be in the minority here, but I say retire the Nerd episodes until after the movie is released. Not only will it speed up the latter process, but I personally just eat up all of the other videos in between, even the ones with just Mike talking about a game or movie or something.
BTW- did anyone else see Pat the NES Punk on Pawn Stars?
March 15, 2013 at 1:46 am
i agree i wrote i comment about this. This episode doesnt have the angry video game nerd magic. I love this video though. I love all his stuff. But this just doenst seem angry. Theres been a few lately that just dont have the full avgn feel. But they’re still great. Keep them coming james please
March 6, 2013 at 8:02 pm
Great to see kyle again, also awesome job on the filming, kinda feels like a real TV serie. good to see james couldnt hold his laugh when Kyle was just jibbering around xD
March 6, 2013 at 8:08 pm
I liked that, too. Again, it’s something we see/hear a lot of in the James and Mike Play videos, and it’s effective in that it sorta-kinda puts the viewers in the room with the reviewers- because usually we’re laughing right along.
March 6, 2013 at 8:06 pm
A+ Episode, Kyle knocked it out of the park and James was great as usual. The ABBA song was my favourite part but it was hard to choose.
March 6, 2013 at 8:10 pm
Ah, great to see Kyle back again. I hope we can see him in future episodes as well, along with the theme song.
Now, if only you could convince Mike to draw another title card…
March 6, 2013 at 8:13 pm
I was getting tired of the theme song. I usually skip over it.
