Start working at home with Google! It’s by-far the best job Ive had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this – 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringin home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link,

yo, quit spamming at cinemassacre. No one cares about you or your message; and I just read this generic message by another person word for word on “I live behind the couch” by Kyle Justin. what an asshole.

  • February 21, 2013 at 1:16 am

Check this out, when I played the game last time, when I hit September 2001 in the game, there was a plane crash! How fucking ironic!

    • Lasse Peuraniemi

      February 23, 2013 at 4:08 pm

Not really. An eerie coincidence, maybe, but nothing ironic about it.

    • VindictiveV

      June 21, 2014 at 6:03 pm

      SimCity Numbers Station?

  • February 21, 2013 at 1:24 am

So, was the Beavis and Butthead shirts on accident or intentional? Either way, awesome.

    • AquaBlueStew

      February 21, 2013 at 1:37 am

What the hell, I was thinking that same thing exactly 4 minutes later from you, our comments are almost the same. I was just thinking too “I hope people are sharp enough to notice that” and, apparently, yeah, they are.

      • Joseph

        February 24, 2013 at 7:15 pm

They made the goofy laugh noises too.

    • The Kaleidoscopic God

      April 16, 2013 at 5:12 pm

Seeing as both bands are among the most famous of all time, it could indeed be entirely coincidental. Awesome indeed, however. Well spotted.

      • The Kaleidoscopic God

        April 16, 2013 at 5:17 pm

Nevermind, I spoke too soon. Hadn’t watched the video.

The repetition of “69”, followed up by goofy laughter, is most definitely Beavis and Butthead-esque. (I’m guessing there will be more of that.)

  • AquaBlueStew

    February 21, 2013 at 1:28 am

Awesome! An interesting take on SimCity for SNES. Like the Beavis and Butthead regalia, coincidental or not, it’s cool. Dying for an AVGN NES review. Keep it up team!

    • February 21, 2013 at 2:06 pm

Hmm, considering Mike does a Butthead impression in the video (“Hehehe, 69”) I’d say they did it on purpose just to see if somebody would pick up on it.

  • Madie

    February 21, 2013 at 1:32 am

ohh. my night, on a scale from 1 to 10, before watching this was -6. after watching this, +11

  • Ron

    February 21, 2013 at 1:33 am

    Nice shirt, Beavis.

  • Mr. Saturn

    February 21, 2013 at 1:37 am

I played a ton of this as a kid. Did the money code as well.

Interestingly last year I learned of a debug menu that lets you do all sorts of things.

  • February 21, 2013 at 1:41 am

I cheated… If it takes 10 seconds to load a map, multiply that by 999, then divide by 60, you get 166.5..? Math? :/

    • genju

      February 21, 2013 at 10:59 am

Actually there’s 1000 because you have to count 000. So 166.6~

  • February 21, 2013 at 1:47 am

I miss AVGN. This is okay, but you gave us a product that was truly entertaining and got us to come back. This stuff feels very, “After M.A.S.H.” (Google it kids)

    • LJNGameDesigner

      February 21, 2013 at 7:57 pm

AfterM.A.S.H. wasn’t funny, this is, so bad example.

He’s working on the movie. Give the guy a break.

  • February 21, 2013 at 1:59 am

GUYS – try Utopia: The Creation of a Nation,. Thats another good city builder with combat.

    • MrCredibility

      February 21, 2013 at 2:11 am

I second that, I played the shit out of Utopia. It’s also a great game if you like Canon in D.

  • GojiraShei

    February 21, 2013 at 2:02 am

Hell yes! I played this game constantly when I was a kid.

  • MrCredibility

    February 21, 2013 at 2:11 am

I loved this game, but I much preferred SimCity for Windows when I got that. Can’t wait for SimCity 5 in a few weeks, YEEEEEEEEEE!

  • h31i05

    February 21, 2013 at 2:34 am

That guy who will make a video to see how long would it take to see every available map in the game should also do a comment for each one πŸ˜€

  • J-P

    February 21, 2013 at 2:46 am

I am little disappointed with this video. It was fun to watch that you play, but you totally didn’t explain why you have to wait for all those maps to come up. The reason is also so obvious. It’s because Sim City is a PC game (I think you should have mentioned that). And while SNES is a 16bit console PCs at the time had much much more memory (usually around 256 kb, I think). That is also the reason why everything looks so bad at the screen. The PC version has much better graphics (assuming that you had a VGA graphics card).
Also for a note is that best version of Sim City is the one on Amiga 500. If you haven’t tried that one, I’d recommend it. The musics are just amazing (and Amiga in general had the best music outputs of all game consoles of its time).
Also you can easily see why this is a game that you’d play with a mouse. But as it is not a fast game I guess it doesn’t matter to use gamepad instead.

  • marc_lawson

    February 21, 2013 at 2:56 am

Who needs sports? Fighting for territory used to be very important for ancient man, now it is not. Yet, we still have those dopamine & adrenaline rewards in our brains for competitive behavior, so we created “sports” in order to still enjoy those rewards. Ahhh… addiction.

  • 00bam

    February 21, 2013 at 3:07 am

keep posting the james and mike play stuff!!…and the music makes this game playable

  • matt ferguson

    February 21, 2013 at 3:16 am

You might want to check out Sim City Creator on the DS. It actually goes through the time eras with appropriate structures (for a Sim City game).

  • Cimmerian_Dragon

    February 21, 2013 at 3:48 am

Happy trees. Ha…I love Bob Ross.

  • Jashin

    February 21, 2013 at 3:55 am

James and Mike are a hundred times better than Game Grumps.

  • HomingMissiles

    February 21, 2013 at 4:11 am

Since you guys are into city building/simulation games, have anyone here ever played anything of the City Building Series (Pharaoh, Zeus, Caesar, etc)? They were all for PC and somewhat based on Sim City, but inspired by History and with very unique mechanics. Mythological gods could interfer either positively or negatively in your affairs (in “Zeus” you could have angry gods and beasts tearing your city apart, like Godzilla in SimCity, it was pretty cool). Recent installments in the series were pretty weak and flopped miserably, but the early ones were top-notch, smart and well designed entertainment which I hardly if ever see mentioned.

  • Mac Har

    February 21, 2013 at 4:11 am

Woo! I love the format you’ve got set up.

    Theme Hospital, next?

  • Nintendomaniac

    February 21, 2013 at 4:39 am

I cracked a big smile at the reference to “Video Power” near the end. James, you really should do a review of that show, either as yourself or the nerd…it doesn’t matter, I’d just really like to hear you talk about it and poke fun at its cheesiness (and obviously the main source of that cheesiness, Johnny Arcade).

As for SimCity, the SNES version has always been my favorite out of all the different versions and sequels, even though it is so outdated and unrealistic compared to the more modern ones. It took me years of playing it to finally reach “megalopolis” city status by getting to a population of 500,000 people.

  • February 21, 2013 at 5:02 am

Are you guys trying to be Beavis and Butt-head? (t-shirts) or wasn’t that intentional?

  • February 21, 2013 at 5:05 am

ok, after watching the video, I knew… uhuh uhuh

  • zengie

    February 21, 2013 at 5:30 am

    You guys rule.

  • Entrenaturaleza

    February 21, 2013 at 5:48 am

If this game is good in SNES, it excels on PC, thats because games like this there are passionate pc gamers, good video to debate guys

  • February 21, 2013 at 6:57 am

You seriously don’t think the game makers fit 1000 maps on the game, right?

Every time you select a number, it generates it. Like minecraft or Dwarf Fortress generates worlds. The number is just the ‘seed’. The random number it bases your world on.

  • Knarkus

    February 21, 2013 at 7:00 am

Oh yeah! A new video! This totally just made my day, I love you Mike and James. And now I will watch it.

  • February 21, 2013 at 7:08 am

I just saw a very in depth review of the entire Sim City series by LazyGameReviews at Here is the link if anybody cares to see it: (It was posted on Feb. 14)

  • February 21, 2013 at 8:36 am

I swear I shit in my pants from laughing when I saw your faces listeening to the “theme” music from this game…

Sometimes saying nothing is the funniest shit ever…

  • waveflux

    February 21, 2013 at 11:00 am

Good idea, but I man oh man do both of you suck at this game. I have a hard time beleving that you used to play this all the time growing up.

    • exploda

      February 21, 2013 at 11:32 am

At least they built in that donut formation.

    • February 21, 2013 at 1:29 pm

As if we were playing serious.

  • exploda

    February 21, 2013 at 11:22 am

Oh my freaking god. I must’ve played this game for over 1000 hours. A couple years ago it was the only game my sister and her boyfriend would play and they would FIGHT and ARGUE about the best way to manage a city, it got ridiculous. I love this game sooooo much.

  • exploda

    February 21, 2013 at 11:31 am

Parks raise the land value by a little bit. Not as much as amusement parks or your mansion though.

  • Critic From The Future

    February 21, 2013 at 12:46 pm

You guys are somehow the best game commentators on Youtube.

  • taykel

    February 21, 2013 at 1:22 pm

    Very funny.

  • DanceOf TheMidnightCandles

    February 21, 2013 at 1:24 pm

Back in the day they weren’t afraid to make games off of ANYTHING. I still remember playing Sim Isle, Sim Tower, Sim Town, Sim Ant, Sim Park and Sim Copter…those were the days.

  • Mox_Demon

    February 21, 2013 at 1:55 pm

You guys are great, but you’re playing it wrong. You must build 3×3 pattern with the open middle block being a police, fire, or park.

    • Mox_Demon

      February 21, 2013 at 1:58 pm

I seen you were building that way, don’t know how to edit or delete comment.

  • RectalTerror

    February 21, 2013 at 4:06 pm

If it takes ages to “load” a map, and there are 1000 of them, it’s a hint that it’s not really loading (something that shouldn’t take time on a cartridge), it’s randomizing it (something that should take time on a shitty old console), and the number you pick is the random seed (not a pure randomizer but an assisted one).

  • patlefort

    February 21, 2013 at 6:42 pm

I played Sim City 2000 so much on PC, such a great game. The first Sim City, especially on SNES, is so lack luster in comparison.

  • neil joe

    February 21, 2013 at 6:51 pm

So many versions of this game, why choose SNES version its pretty weak compared to the pc version.. you guys should play pc games… Like Mike vs James in some Warcraft 2 PC!! lol

  • meamironman

    February 21, 2013 at 7:21 pm

mike interrupts james a lot lol

  • nintendoaddict1

    February 22, 2013 at 12:49 am

    Happy trees? Bob Ross FTW.

  • Lanlost

    February 22, 2013 at 1:48 am

Smart Mike, You don’t need to go through each map to know how long it will take. If it’s not an equal amount you could realistically do a portion and average it. If you just want someone to make a boring video then that’s something else altogether I guess πŸ˜‰

Anyway, The code for all 1000 maps, I guarantee, is just a few lines.

How? Well, there would be a map generator based on a random number. Since there is no such thing as a random number in a computer (or.. the universe possibly… look up determinism) you must ‘seed’ a random number generator to give it a value that it uses to generate these random values. Guaranteed that that is what this ‘map number’ is. It’s gotta be the number used to seed this generator. Since there is no such thing as a random number if you give it the same value each time you’ll get the same list of random numbers and thus, get the same 1000 ‘random’ maps every time making it appear like 1000 maps were created and have to load when really it’s generating them.

Maybe you’ll find that interesting James/Mike. … Hopefully someone will.

  • Lanlost

    February 22, 2013 at 2:09 am

“Thank you for your comment.” 4th times a charm?

  • Lanlost

    February 22, 2013 at 2:14 am

It doesn’t complain but there must be something about my comment that it doesn’t like.. like a special character or something but in that case it shouldn’t thank me for my comment. I lost my original comment that I’m paraphrasing here. Luckily I copied it the second time I typed it because it did it again. The “4th time is a charm” was just to try a simple message.

So, now that I’ve already typed it.. I’ll paraphrase. (Update: It didn’t work so I’m going to try to split the message into two in case it’s too long)

    Part 1:
“You say that you can’t tell what stuff like parks actually do but the game DOES have logic behind all of these things. It’s nowhere near as complex and SimCity 2000 and beyond though.

For instance, the parks, I’m pretty sure increase a resident’s desire to live in that location because any time I had an area where people wouldn’t move in as soon as I placed some parks people would start moving in.

    • Lanlost

      February 22, 2013 at 2:18 am

Damnit.. I can’t get it to post part 2.. no special characters.. it’s short.. no curses.. nothing. I just says thank you every friggen time and then does NOTHING. What the hell is going on?

    • Lanlost

      February 22, 2013 at 2:22 am

Of course.. .. of course that would post. Ok, let’s try Part 2:

There are some great videos on YouTube, and FAQs that explain how everything works. You think it would take the magic out.. but if you research and try to memorize how the game works don’t write it down.. just trying to remember it and THEN play afterwards and see if you do better you’ll have a lot of fun, trust me.”

  • Lanlost

    February 22, 2013 at 2:29 am

Dude, Mike. You need to do some debugging. Here is what it won’t let me post that you can see I’ve tried multiple ways to do it. I’d create a new hidden post and try to post this comment and see why it won’t work because there shouldn’t be anything wrong about it.

You can see in here where it chokes:

Anyone else who can let me know what the problem is will be loved, respected, and given a monetary prize (maybe.. maybe not ;-))

  • BrandeX

    February 22, 2013 at 5:07 am

I play Warcraft 2 for PS1 on my PSP.

NOW I know what I have been doing wrong. You’re supposed to build a city! Thanks Mike!

(sorry for sarcasm, consider it tongue in cheek /props)

    • February 22, 2013 at 5:35 am

making buildings is just part of the game. Thats all I was referring to.

  • Deimiond

    February 22, 2013 at 6:54 am

    Awesome game

  • February 22, 2013 at 2:38 pm

  • Cumslut

    February 22, 2013 at 3:05 pm

Two guys on a couch, one wearing an AC/DC shirt, the other one a Metellica shirt. Now where have I seen that before?

  • Kuuenbu

    February 22, 2013 at 5:30 pm

Giving the most obtuse and opaque version to the platform that young children were most likely to play. 8 bit-era logic once again at its finest.

You kind of have to wonder why Rolfe chose this one as his favorite. Surely being on the Nintendo’s Holy Grail system rather than the Evil PC with its dirty mouse and RAM and hard disk couldn’t have blinded him with some irrational bias.

Of course, it was also the only version I ever really played. I had Simcity 2000 for about a week before I lost the disc. D:

  • Nicholas Miller

    February 22, 2013 at 7:47 pm

I timed how long it took on screen for the game to switch from level 102 to 103 and it was around 12 seconds, using this information multplying by 1000 levels (0 ~ 999 = 1000 total levels) you get 12,000 seconds which is 200 mins, or 3.34 hours to go through and look at all 1000 levels! No way i’m making a video of that lol

  • Daniel Emerson

    February 22, 2013 at 8:45 pm

    Awesome video, but one thing:

I dig the fifty different Beavis and Butt-Head shout outs, including the AC/DC and Metallica shirts!

  • Chris Risdal

    February 22, 2013 at 9:24 pm

I love that you decided to play ‘SimCity’. I was just curious if you were going to do a review of the new ‘SimCity’ maybe? I think that’d be interesting to see a review of a modern PC game.

I remember this game fondly. A good map i remember is 471 because it has a island in the middle of the river to build the airport and the seaport away from everything

good video, when is james going to do another episode mike?

  • vault15

    February 23, 2013 at 1:50 am

This and the Mario Golf episode are my favorites by far. You guys bring back the fun in oldschool gaming. I don’t know why, but I prefer these videos over the angry nerd episodes. I guess they are more relaxing to chill and watch. Keep it up guys.

  • retrogamegirl

    February 23, 2013 at 2:02 am

Haha you guys always take what I thought are the most boring games (i.e., NES Golf, and now this) and make them seem like so much fun!!!!

  • February 23, 2013 at 9:24 am

i like the bevis and butthead thing you guys got going. (metallica and ac/dc shirts)

  • Sesquipedal

    February 23, 2013 at 2:49 pm

This was a lot of fun to watch, thank you so much for making me think back to the great many afternoons wasted on this game.

..and because of it I realized that SimCity 5 is coming out soon, and actually looks like it will be a good successor for once.

  • February 23, 2013 at 6:00 pm

From what I saw it takes about 13 seconds for the maps to load so it would take around three in a half hours to load them all. It could take up to four hours just to look through them all and decide which one you want ~_~

I have done your challenge Mike! Loading through the 1000 maps πŸ™‚

  • February 24, 2013 at 12:14 pm

Hey loved this video! I remember Sim City from when I was a child only I had it on the Amoga 600 and the cheat was much easier but if memory serves me well it caused earthquakes to take place.

I am interested to see how the new Sim City games will be especially after playing the first beta test of it at my mates.

    February 24, 2013 at 9:44 pm

    199.8 minutes

  • November 21, 2013 at 2:51 am

With all of that homage to Beavis and Butthead, it would be sweet to see you guys play their game on SNES. IMO, one of the best games on that console.
