I like that kind of movie , I hope you make more of them !

Let’s play games with Mike and James .

    • November 20, 2013 at 11:07 pm

And in retrospect that’s exactly what happened, with almost that exact title (although now its changed). Now this video is lonely and out of place and should probably be moved lol.

  • November 21, 2012 at 3:06 pm

fukn awesome!! I played it not that long ago! & same but reversed I didn’t know it the md was called genesis until internet 😀

  • November 21, 2012 at 3:12 pm

Good video, but totally wrong about Super Nintendo being superior to the Sega Genesis. They were equals who had a great run in our childhood. It’s a shame Sega had such dummies for business owners. They’d still be here making great consoles and games if they hadn’t had the idiots they had running their business into the ground. Alien Storm is one of many great games on the Genesis. I think I’ll have to go find my copy and play it for the nostalgia. : )

    November 21, 2012 at 3:14 pm

I played this game recently with a friend on the ps3

You can buy a disc with more than 40 sega genesis games on it, with enhanced HD graphocs and speciel features. It’s just awesome

like – like -like – like – like -like – like – like -like – like – like -like – like – like -like – like – like -like – like – like -like – like – like -like. I tried to count the times you said “like”, but I gave up. Try to do a whole video without using the word “like”. I dare you!

Was “taste my lightning fuckers!” a reference to the Tenacious D movie? You should review it… that movie kicks ballsack.

    November 21, 2012 at 5:33 pm

I remember playing this when I was a kid, but it was on the Sega Master System, and I remembering being very hard. I remember the bosses turning to weird colors like bright pink when they were almost dead.

  • Q306005

    November 21, 2012 at 5:37 pm

OMG! I loved this game as a kid. Makes me wanna look for my old Genesis and play this again.

  • Another Guy Named James

    November 21, 2012 at 6:17 pm

I really like the concept of these videos! You guys ever consider making a “ToeJam and Earl”-themed video? With all the crazy, off-the-wall things that happen, you’d have plenty of material for jokes, satire and the like…

  • itscmillertime

    November 21, 2012 at 6:44 pm

@TwistedSpeech no way are they equal. Genesis only had 3 Buttons. SNES had 6. Genesis sound is distorted, SNES is beautiful. Nintendo rules, Genesis Droolz

@JakEuro I thought the exact same thing.
Cool video. Keep it up James!

    November 21, 2012 at 8:07 pm

This vid turned out funny, entertaining, and somewhat insightful. I do hope you guys make more like this in the casual style.

I don’t know if the characters in Alien Storm have names, but I think the male character looks like Andrew Dice Clay in the portrait next to his life bar.

  • uberrainman

    November 21, 2012 at 8:29 pm

Cool simple video, I’m sure much easier for you guys to make too. Thanks!

  • November 21, 2012 at 8:32 pm

Thats one of the cool genesis games that is really close to the arcade version also.

  • Grizly

    November 21, 2012 at 8:58 pm

THANK YOU JAMES AND MIKE! Fuckin’ A- these are Always nice, seems u guys could do lots of throw together videos like these just to quench us gamers thirst for a bit more cinemassacre material. Keep up the good work fellas and the entertainment is, as always, much appreciated !

    November 21, 2012 at 9:00 pm

I loved this video. Both James and Mike should make more of these videos playing entire games.

As a Genesis Fanboy …. LOVE THIS VIDEO!! There is a lot of great AVGN material with the Genesis. lol

    November 21, 2012 at 9:01 pm

I played Double Dragon 2 the other day, I think the intro is even better than 1. They just mow your girlfriend down with a machine gun and walk away.

  • Steven

    November 21, 2012 at 9:21 pm

Yes!!!! Great job!!!!A-? WFT lol. But great job Mike+James always makes for a great video to me. But the comments are priceless

    November 21, 2012 at 9:22 pm

I dont know why but I have a lot of trouble with the video player. It will only buffer like 5 seconds in advance and I have to keep pausing the video if I want to watch it. . . Help?

  • Mariusz69

    November 21, 2012 at 9:50 pm

James or Mike, Please do a LONG review of “They Live!” One of my favorite scifi flicks 🙂

  • Aedan Clarke

    November 21, 2012 at 9:52 pm

Haha, nice to hear a Pick of Destiny reference in there. 😛

  • Keith the Genesis Geek

    November 21, 2012 at 10:22 pm

I have Double Dragon 2 as well and that’s true. Instead they just mow down the girl with a machine gun. That’s why it’s called “The Revenge” …. meanwhile the cover shows her alive and being rescued …. which makes no sense. 🙂

  • TheRetroNerd

    November 21, 2012 at 10:26 pm

I had the c64 version which had a really cool cover.

I second the request for a review of “THEY LIVE!”

And does anyone think it’s a bit redundant to say “Player 1 Wins!…
    The winner is player 1!”

“What’s the matter, cut yourself shaving?
You look as ugly to us as we do to you!”

There are no countries any more, boys, don’t you get it?!

That’s my favourite message. It’s one we’re surrounded by more often than simply “OBEY.” The key is recognizing who is being told NOT to marry and reproduce (most of the people here.) Then you can see how blatantly the true message is delivered – and in the very same context! It’s the most obvious one from our present society. MARRY AND REPRODUCE (good workers) !

  • Firx

    November 22, 2012 at 12:48 am

Can’t tell you how much I love these videos of you guys sitting around screaming “FUUUUUCK!” at bits of ancient digital media. More like this, please!

  • DTysonator

    November 22, 2012 at 2:20 am

Nice quick play though, guys :).

When I saw that Tin Man-like character, I was just waiting for one of you to point out the resemblance and that didn’t take very long!

Nice material. Is funny to see you guys playing around! in that way of course!!

  • Thifurious

    November 22, 2012 at 3:42 am

You guys should play Streets of Rage 2 or 3! They’re the pinnacle of the Genesis library, and in the beat-em-up genre – in my opinion.

  • jdshald

    November 22, 2012 at 4:10 am

    cool lets play

  • November 22, 2012 at 5:09 am

This video was pretty cool. Just James and Mike kicking back and playing some fucking video games and having a good time.

I’m glad you guys brought up the sega genesis’ sound. I fucking HATE the genesis’ sound chip. It’s ugly. It sounds like a crappy 8 bit piece of shit. It sucks. SNES sound chip was fucking awesome for it’s time. Just awesome.

And nice job turning into super mecha death christ there at the end, James! Made me lol in real life.

Make more of these! Like, you guys should play 2 player games specifically, whether you actually cooperate or if mike decides to be a motherfucker, that can play into the comedy of the video.

  • November 22, 2012 at 5:12 am

I dont know this game, but it looks like a better ripof of Golden Axe. Just more Genesisser 😀

  • Snejku

    November 22, 2012 at 5:32 am

This game is featured on the Sega Mega Drive Collection for Ps 3 (Not sure if it’s on 360 too), along with about 40 other classic titles such as the Streets of Rage collection, Comix Zone, Golden Axe collection, Altered Beast, Sonic collection, Shinoby and so on. Well worth the money!

My farts stink. I know some people think their farts don’t, but mine smell absolutely terrible.

I dread having to fart because I hate being stuck in my own stink cloud but I’m too lazy to leave the room and come after after busting ass.

    Thank you…

Was that a “Pick of Destiny” quote that I picked up on? Dave son of a bitch

  • Isaac75

    November 22, 2012 at 12:22 pm

Looks like a Golden Axe rip off.
Both from SEGA, same concept and graphics, same sound effects, same music style and the girl looks exactly the same only with a different outfit.

  • Chimmyt

    November 22, 2012 at 12:42 pm

It sure does look like a Golden Axe rip off, with the vs mode and even the opening scene reminds me me of GA. I wonder what you guys think is the best name for the console now that you know both names; genesis or megadrive?
Apart from that, i like these videos when you guys are unscripted and just have fun with the games. More of the same please:)

  • Josh

    November 22, 2012 at 2:20 pm

Its called the Genesis here in Canada too.

    November 22, 2012 at 9:07 pm

LOL I know the girl’s special attack is supposed to be some sort of smart bomb, but it looks like a giant metal vibrator crashing down, destroying everything in its path.

these videos are really cool man, i love it when they play games together.

When the girl walks, she looks like the amazon from Golden Axe

  • Karoomay

    November 23, 2012 at 2:34 am

I wonder if James and Mike playing games will be a series like Game Grumps.

  • ultimatepunchrod

    November 23, 2012 at 2:19 pm

@Chimmyt The same team made Golden Axe, so it’s not a ripoff. It’s more of putting their strengths behind making a game with a new setting in the same genre.

  • z_thompson

    November 24, 2012 at 1:14 am

This is actually on the Virtual Console for anyone who’s interested. It’s actually pretty good!

  • Bleh

    November 24, 2012 at 2:13 am

It’s called the Genesis in Argentina as well.

  • tFighterPilot

    November 24, 2012 at 1:55 pm

I didn’t know it by either name. I’m not even sure it was exported to Israel. Though around 1997 my friend gave me a disk with a genesis emulator and around 400 roms, so I guess then I knew it as Genecyst (the name of the emulator). Alien Storm was one of the games I liked (though there were many better ones obviously).

  • TheLotusEater

    November 30, 2012 at 1:19 am

i recently found a game for genesis that i never heard called The Immortal. its by electronic arts so its one of those goofy looking carts. it was 99 cents and its probably one of the craziest games i”ve ever seen. i’d love to see james or mike play it, its just asking to be ripped on.

  • Xen11

    November 30, 2012 at 1:40 am

If you had that vs. match as the Nerd Movie, that would be hilarious. Just the surrealistic nature of watching that on a big screen with the genuine realism and hilarity.

I grew up with a Genesis while my neighbor friend had an SNES. I always thought of the SNES as better, and it really is superior in many ways, but lately I’m really digging the style of the Genesis the most. It’s that perfect late ’80s early ’90s tech-noir feel. It’s the best fucking style of gaming ever.

Hey does anyone here know why I can’t see the video. There is no player visible. I’m using chrome & adblock. Is it possible that adblock is fucking with me?

BTW James, you are amazing! I have been a fan of your work for 6 years now and must thank you for all the hard work you’ve done.
    Greetings from Slovenia. 🙂

great video guys! but i must say, the panning of the microphone to the right is a bit unsettling. maybe try panning the music rather than the voice. its like listenin to a song where the vocals arent centered, it makes you tilt your head to the side to even things out.

  • January 29, 2013 at 12:55 am

You should make more video’s with Mike

  • Ben_from_G-town

    February 15, 2013 at 10:28 am

  • Ozymandias677

    June 8, 2013 at 7:25 pm

On account of the fact that you weren’t even irked, it makes this a filler episode in the AVGN series. However, the episode was wonderful because you decided to take a breather and play a nice game with your friend. Also, this episode–like earlier entries–convinces me to avoid or purchase a game. I’ll do the latter for “Alien Storm”.

  • Red Ninja

    September 29, 2013 at 7:07 pm

Why is this in AVGN if this is James and Mike?

  • stefan frederick

    November 21, 2013 at 10:22 pm

why cant i watch any of these on my 360

  • December 16, 2013 at 9:16 pm

Shouldn’t this be in James and Mike Mondays?

    • DavySprocket

      August 8, 2016 at 5:10 pm

On the “Creating James & Mike Mondays” podcast on Pat the NES Punk’s channel, Mike said that Alien Storm was just a game they sat down to play one day, that they also decided to record. After Mike edited the video, they decided to do more of them, and the next one (Super Mario 4 Rambo) was what officially started the series. I also remember on another video on YouTube once (can’t remember where), Mike replied to a comment and said that he counted Alien Storm as the pilot for J&MM. So that makes Alien Storm something of an Episode 0 for the series.
