nice review. i love when you review really old horror flicks. tnt monstervision was great

  • July 16, 2012 at 12:37 am

Wonderful review or should I say slam of a crap stained movie. I have never seen it and thanks to you I will never have to. Appreciate the review. I will have to remake this and make it even worse but I dunno might be a bad idea as you said. Lemme help you James by introducing you to my boy Dr F if you haven’t already met him.

This short story will not upset you. It is right up your alley. Besides I have been one of your biggest fans since the beginning. I want to give something back. Peace and don’t ever stop entertaining us all.

This video is perfect James, may all your movie reviews be like this from now on :D.

    July 16, 2012 at 1:57 am

Not a bad review James but in all honesty this film just seems to be a bland creature feature. If you REALLY wanna see a film (or two) that’ll have you questioning humanity, you need to check out the french horror movie The Iron Rose or the american monster movie It’s Alive!! Both of those films leave a dirty feeling behind that’ll stick to you for years to come.

    really good review style
James you should do a remake of this movie

  • sexconker

    July 16, 2012 at 2:30 am

Someone seriously should do a remake of it.
And by “someone” I mean you.

I’m sure the rights to it are dirt cheap.

  • MisterCerberus

    July 16, 2012 at 2:33 am

“Pick one or the other you fuckin’ morons”
That’s the most genuinely angry I’ve ever heard James sound

  • Aaron1375

    July 16, 2012 at 2:36 am

Lol, I kept hoping what happened at the end would. It looked like James was set up for it and then bam! In all seriousness though this film looks bad. I like horror films, I like bad horror films, but what I don’t like is bad boring horror films.

I’m suffering the same kind of situation James. You see, that saying that the mentally unstable man said haunts you, well wanna know what haunts me? Pokemon Blue Version. I know right? It’s stupid and something we’ll probably never get forget. Thanks for the 5 years of entertainment now it’s been great watching AVGN as you progress with the movie. Thank you again and don’t be haunted!

Im thinkin, why does one of my favorite web sites review bad movies, you would think review good movies to spread the word about great art, but then i realised, its the same reason why james watches them, and a bad movie can be just as inspiational if not more than a good one, it intices new ideas rather than being shadowed by greatness. fuk yer james, i love u man. (im a musician, but same shizz)

  • July 16, 2012 at 4:57 am

this looks like a good movie for the late 60s when you’re a kid late at night with nothing to do. i would watch it over and over again a few times. there is no such thing as cellphones, no video games for the home, no internet, nothing else much to do at night as a kid.

  • xdeathknightx

    July 16, 2012 at 5:07 am

Hmm well you watched it a few times, that at least counts for something. When me and a couple of friends watched a movie called Bad Shit we actually turned it off it was so bad. They went for the whole “so bad it’s funny” angle but it was just bad bad. We watched a lot of schlocky and bad movies but that was the first and only one we turned off.
At least it managed to spike your imagination, Bad Shit only spiked a tinge of regret about the money we spent renting it.

And you got to love Mike, you have a movie you found so profusely horrible and Mike will go out of his way to give it to you πŸ˜‰

The opening music sure is creepy. I think if somebody made a remake it would actually be better than this mess of a film. πŸ˜€

We need a Vulture vs the Claw :p

  • July 16, 2012 at 6:07 am

If you want a really uneventful movie, watch Open Water. The movie is so pointless that there is even a several minute long scene of someone trying to swat a fly. It is quite possibly one of the worse films out there and is, by far, the worst one I’ve ever seen.

  • AlanSmithee

    July 16, 2012 at 6:48 am

You have open the Tomb of the vulture and once again released its terrors to the world… MWhahahaha Mwhaahaha

But i agree a Whodunit would be much more enjoyable bit of Aghatha Christie and scoobiedoo mix for adults (ish)

  • Doresh

    July 16, 2012 at 7:03 am

First the Giant Claw, now this. And then there’s “Blood-sucking Freaks” about a guy turning into a Turkey-monster. Why do bird-themed monster movies suck so much Oo ?

I don’t have much hope for a remake: The original is way too obscure, and modern horror movies are anything but suspenseful.

  • Stylix

    July 16, 2012 at 7:28 am

I saw a terrible movie that had this effect on me too. It was called Cathy’s Curse. Back in the 90’s when I was a young teen my weekends usually consisted of going to the video store and getting a game for the weekend and usually some cheesy horror flick. I don’t really remember why I picked it in the first place. The box art left much to be desired and the idea of a horror movie based on a kid seemed stupid to me. Still I rented it and it was almost unwatchable, yet a few weeks later I rented it again. A few months after that I rented it a 3rd time.

I have not seen it since, and I really don’t remember anything about the story. In fact I don’t even remember any scenes at this point. I’ve thought about tracking the movie back down several times, but do I really want to put myself through something so dull again? Obviously it wasn’t any good or Id at least remember the plot…. but this review makes me feel a certain obligation to look it up now.

  • July 16, 2012 at 7:42 am

If you want a bad movie, watch Manos, The Hands of Fate from 1966. You can go grab a beer, drink it, come back, and not miss a thing. It’s DEATHLY horrible. A remake of that thing would make people commit suicide in the theaters. Take a peek, if you dare.

  • July 16, 2012 at 9:23 am

There’s a single copy of this on ebay for $149. That’s insane.

Totally loved it James!, Also loved the ending, nice little surprise there πŸ˜›

your reviews are such a breath of fresh air unlike other review sites where all they do is scream and yell and try and force a ‘meme’ every few seconds.

it’s nice to get reviews from someone with your knowledge and background.

    July 16, 2012 at 12:44 pm

Funny that you suggest remaking bad movies instead of good ones. I remember watching a lot of Siskel and Ebert growing up and one of them (I think Siskel) would sometimes suggest the same thing. The only reason I can think of for remaking a good movie is to have the recognizable name to market. Otherwise, why not let someone take a crack at remaking this turkey of a vulture movie?

  • July 16, 2012 at 1:25 pm

Nerd… i will use this space for asking you… WHAT THE HELL IS THIS MOVIE?? IS SO WEIRD AND HAVE SO MUCH BAD ACTING!

  • Squall85

The whole video I’ve been trying to figure out who Broderick Crawford was, and then it hit me. That’s the star of Highway Patrol, the show that comes on before Sea Hunt starring Lloyd Bridges. I watch the latter every morning on, some odd digital tv subchannel.

  • dhylton

I also have seen Manos Hands of Fate and agree it is the most boring shitfest ever. I could barely sit through even the MST 3000 version it’s so bad. I give credit to anyone that can sit through the car driving up the hill at the very beginning of the movie.

  • July 16, 2012 at 6:33 pm

I loved that review, you made it fascinating, while speaking about a boring movie. sensible.

One of your best reviews. It seems far more entertainting than the movie itself. You know what, you should make a remake of it!

Great video, James’s best movie review to date imo. I prefer “mellow” James.

  • July 17, 2012 at 4:26 am

I really like this because I’ve done this before too. Some obscure older movie that just draws me in, I’ll watch the whole thing and then go to the internet, wikipedia it, read up on what people though of it. It’s usually a completely different sensation for me than what it was for people then but yeah, I liked this. I really liked the music of the film and that line too. Keep it up man!

James, I would highly recommend working toward remaking this film yourself in the future. I believe it would work out well, so much so that after watching your videos routinely for the past 4 years, I actually registered to say this. I even tried to retype and rephrase this a dozen times, because I don’t want my grammar to tarnish the message. This film needs a Cinemassacre treatment!

  • LicaWolf

    July 17, 2012 at 9:17 pm

Wow! James, this was a great review! It’s like something I would expect for Monster Madness. Very comprehensive and detailed, it even had an intro and an ending (cool ending!). I liked how the review starts describing the plot and listing the positive aspects of the movie and then it goes to the bad aspects until it ends in total frustration.

I agree with the other comments, this movie should be remake by Cinemassacre.

This review proves just how awful Canadian films can be.

And I am Canadian, by the way. If you think this looks bad, just check out some of the late-night indie oldies that are sometimes played could almost qualify as avant-garde pieces. My mind flutters just thinking about them…

  • SurtainDeth

    July 17, 2012 at 10:02 pm

That was an excellent review. I really wish you would review ZaAt, I watched it with some friends in college and it had that same “how the fuck did this get made” appeal. Although they did at least have the decency to show the monster.

Personally, I reject the “so bad it’s good” notion. I think, if a movie doesn’t entertain you, it’s bad. If it DOES entertain you, you have fun watching it, you enjoy it? It’s good.

    End of story.

Wow, great review James As always, but above and beyond this time with a great ending! Amazing to see Broderick Crawford play anything besides Dan Matthews from Highway Patrol. I might have to check this movie out just to see the scenes with him in them plus the fact that the movie just looks so intriguingly bad. Great to have you back making vids James!

  • Jaredp_87

    July 20, 2012 at 10:35 pm

You certainly have a talent for reflecting your feelings through your videos, James. Not only do I get that this is a horrible yet intriguing movie (like a car wreck you can’t look away from) because of its potential that was just wasted… but I fell the same way too now simply because of this review. Not everyone can do that like you, James. Most of the time people just get their facts/point across. You do that, plus your emotions, and you INSTILL them… it never fails. Please don’t ever stop what you do. You inspire more people than you know.

    July 26, 2012 at 10:09 am

Wow, yeah, that one looks like a real bore. I bet even the MST3K guys would have a hard time coming up with material. Although, in all fairness, I do think you had a point about remaking old movies that were actually bad. Say it’s an old film that had a decent premise but was poorly executed. But, since that would actually make sense, Hollywood won’t do it. For a minute there I thought you were going to say YOU were going to remake The Vulture. πŸ˜€

Believe it or not, I watched this movie when I was about 12 years old. In fact it was for a class trip, if you can believe that. Stupid movie haunted me for the next 10 years. I never forgot it. especially when the vulture takes Trudy at the bus stop. I used to hate being left at home alone any time … I would keep thinking I heard flapping wings or the vulture coming up my stair case. I was scarred for life. all because of this STUPID MOVIE!
