First, i have to say i’m glad everything is going smoothly James. About the AVGN episode, i would rather you get Monster Madness done before the episode. We’ve been without an episode for some time so a few more months aren’t gonna be an issue, Monster Madness though that’s something that happens once a year and i also cannot see October without it. At least for me watching Monster Madness has become like a ritual for me, along side watching some horror movies (i watch one horror movie each day of October). I know this may sound selfish but i would rather have Monster Madness than an AVGN episode, would be awesome to have both but with everything you have going on i would be best if you don’t take on so many projects at the same time, unless you’re 100% sure you can do them without any kind of drawbacks/issues

  • May 25, 2012 at 9:31 pm

This year, I think Monster Madness should cover films dealing with possession. People possessed by ghosts, demons, turned into mindless zombies, etc.

  • Joey_Redballs

    May 25, 2012 at 9:32 pm

Monster Madness; instead of doing a month, maybe a week? 5 days? Top Ten? Anyhow, for the remainder of October, I recommend having fan-submitted videos with clips\history\discussion. I think everyone who loves Monster Madness has had an idea for a single or series of videos. So we should make that ourselves. Maybe you and Mike can hand pick what you like and showcase a new one each day. And anyone else who participated can get links placed on a thank-you-for-participating-page on Halloween.

There isn’t much respect out there for horror movies, and you’re the man for celebrating them every year!

Nice to see some feedback for people who want to make movies. @ Omar James said it will be released international Dvd most likely I live in Canada too I’m sure we will be able to see the movie if not order it off the site. Excited to see some new content from the nerd some video reviews will be well worth the long wait thanks again for the update.

Great update on the movie, I’ve sent it out to a few friends who do movies and I think they would enjoy it too ๐Ÿ™‚
Just wondering with the AVGN episodes are you going to start making them after the movie is released? (Been hanging for a new one)

  • May 25, 2012 at 10:06 pm

I’m glad to hear that you will do more AVGN reviews, cause there’s tons of other hard or bad video games out there to review. Whatever game you choose to review, I’ll be looking forward to it.

  • WestBuiltAMountain

    May 25, 2012 at 10:07 pm

Thanks for the update. I’ve been checking every day since you got back, so it’s nice to see.

When you say DVD, do you mean just DVD or do you also hopefully mean Blu-Ray? I mean, you did shoot in HD, so a Blu-Ray version would be great.

Also showed one of your videos to a friend who was visiting. He seemed to enjoy it, so hopefully you’ve got another fan there.

Good luck with getting everything sorted out with the film. Congratulations on getting to this point in your career. It’s pretty cool to see.

  • Billy Blanks

    May 25, 2012 at 10:11 pm

So he said they may do a tour, at some theaters maybe. Does that mean you will have a print on actual 35mm film? Or will use a dvd and projector?

  • Miguelman300

    May 25, 2012 at 10:18 pm

James i got a question is about makeing a movie script and my movie script has a back story to introducing a villain but the villain is not evil in the back story so how could i make the villain not so obvious like something not too cliche

  • marlinlol

    May 25, 2012 at 10:21 pm

    May 25, 2012 at 10:24 pm

Nice to have you back James, you fuckfart!

  • You Can Just Walk Over It

    May 25, 2012 at 10:25 pm

I can’t wait for all the hardcore movie “fans” to be pissed off that you didn’t inject a ton of CGI into every minute of the movie. Looking at some of the shots, the nerd looks way different with those glasses, I’d love for that to be the new look for every new AVGN episode.

What one scene took the most number of takes to film? Was it a funny or serious moment where the actors were trying to hold in their laughter, or was there any technical difficulty that forced a dozen or whatever takes of one scene? If it spoils a key moment in the movie then it can be answered in the DVD ( or bluray?) release.

As for monster madness, if time gets way too packed I’d suggest one video per week leading up to Halloween night. Each one could be a series retrospective, pretty much how last year was with one movie series each week.

In any case, congratulations on the movie. Did you write down the time spent each day like you logged for the AVGN episodes? I’d like to see a list that showed the total hours, and the big “editing – 490 hours” final tally.

Great to see you back. Making your dreams true is very inspiring to a lot of people (including myself). I hear a lot of honesty in your words, keep your great work!

    May 25, 2012 at 10:29 pm

Here’s a question, though it has nothing to do with AVGN The Movie.

When you first announced the AVGN movie, you said you also wanted to do a scary horror film and a funny horror film. Do you still intend to do that or has your time in Hollywood killed those dreams?

  • JudasBear

    May 25, 2012 at 10:30 pm

do you deliver the movie to germany too??!!

it from any filehoster…. naaahhh just kidding ๐Ÿ™‚

    May 25, 2012 at 10:33 pm

QUESTION: What do you think of Mike’s work while you were away, and his repeated use of saying “Genesis Does, What Nintendon’t”?

Will Mike still be making game videos?

  • May 25, 2012 at 10:36 pm

You’re going to love Canada! We have plastic $50 and $100 bills (and soon the $20, $10 and $5 are going plastic as well). Just come here in the summer, winter is a bad idea… If your movie comes to any theater in Montreal you can have all my money! I look forward to all your future achievements. Good luck with everything.

You didn’t mention Comic Con as one of the conventions you were going to. I know you have gone to it for the past few years so I was wondering if you were going to it this year as well.

    May 25, 2012 at 10:47 pm

This was probably answered before somewhere else, if yes I apologize for not doing research: Will we see Nostalgia Critic in the movie? Not full length obviously, but I expect a piece since I’m a big fan of both for many years now, it would blow my mind.

Also thanks Mike for keeping us entertained while James was gone, that was really nice of you.

P.S. You went up on my list of “Gotta meet” people, you’re next to Eddie Vedder. \o/

    May 25, 2012 at 10:48 pm

I live in Greece. I love ANGN and admire James Rolfe and the team behind AVGN and Cinemassacre. I’d love to hear people talking about this movie. It’s a movie the production of which i’ve been watching since the begining. You sould try to present it in some european film festival. There should be one that could support such movie (you know, without strange, hidden meanings, depicting the relationship that could develop between people, using only two or less collors…. that shit) . This way it could attract attension of my (and other European) country’s local media, and perhaps play in some local theatres.

  • May 25, 2012 at 10:51 pm

Keep up the great work James!

  • aweSD123

    May 25, 2012 at 10:51 pm

Ba da da da da da! IM HYPED AS EVER!
I’ve been kind of losing intrest in cinemassacre latley, which is something to say as I’ve been following it since 2010. But I’m sure it’s gonna be worth the wait! Also, please, get it released SOMEHOW other than DVD in Australia. Us Aussies over here need our AVGN shit man! especially me.
Just wanna say thanks for bringing me back to the past so I can watch the nerd rage at the shitty games that suck ass.

All I can say is thanks for all the years of entertainment, I hope many good things and more have come in your lifetime in result of all this. Sure is nice to see ya back in the nerd room. I am a bit taken aback by the fact that you are expecting a Summer 2013 release, but don’t rush it. Glad you had a great time and I look forward to LOTS of videos in the VERY NEAR future. ๐Ÿ˜€

Board James, OverAnalyzers, anything from Mike, and I would love if you did your own Mailbag segment away from ScrewAttack.

    May 25, 2012 at 11:19 pm

Thanks so much for the update! Monster Madness is something I look forward to all year! If there is anything I can do to make sure this continues in 2012, post it here! Thanks for your dedication to your fans and thanks to your love of film making! Looking forward to seeing the results of all your hard work in L.A.! I know it couldn’t have been easy but thanks for your personal sacrifice and look forward to the final result!

    May 25, 2012 at 11:20 pm

I don’t have a question but I would just like to say that it is great to have you back. I’m glad that everything went good out in LA and I’m looking forward to seeing the movie when it comes out. You mentioned that you will be working on a new AVGN episode and possibly a Board James episode….THANK YOU!!! I’ve been going through withdrawals sense you’ve been gone. I’ve probably watched every AVGN episode at least 5 times in the last couple month’s, along with Board James, and That’s Bullshit. With that said it will be great to finally get a few new episodes of those to watch. Mike has done a great job sense you’ve been gone with movie & game reviews and other things to keep us all watching. I appreciate all the work he has put in keeping Cinemassacre going and giving us all new material to watch 2-3 times a week. Any way I’m happy your back as I’m sure everyone else is too. Can’t wait to see a new AVGN episode, keep up the good work. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Sprocket

    May 25, 2012 at 11:20 pm

Did you film in HD? If you did, is a Blu-Ray release in the cards? Hell is a Blu-Ray release possible anyway?

If you’re shooting for a Summer 2013 release, we’d love to have you in Phoenix for the Phoenix ComiCon in late May!

    May 25, 2012 at 11:38 pm

Now that I think about it, I do have a question. Is Mike still going to be making video’s for Cinemassacre now that you are home? If he is going to continue to make video’s will they still be released every Monday like they have been over the past few month’s? Keep up all the good work James, me and all the other fans support you in every project you work on. Can’t wait to see some new material, it’s good to have you home. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Devil_Rising

    May 25, 2012 at 11:43 pm

Thanks for all the hard work James. I admire you, and wish I could get to the place you are, just creating and enjoying your career. Someday.

It’s going to be really hard for you to do any videos, especially Monster Madness, with all the work you still have left to do on the film. But you surprised me with just how much stuff you got done last year ahead of moving to CA, so whatever you manage to produce for us will be more than enough.

I hope it doesn’t take till next year for the AVGN movie to release, but no matter how long it takes, it’ll be worth the wait.

  • Huloo

    May 25, 2012 at 11:44 pm

Welcome back from L.A. !! It hasn’t been the same without an AVGN episode, but I must say that having Mike doing his Monday movie reviews has been quite fun, so I was wondering if he will continue doing them?

Ah, I can’t believe 4 months and you have most of the movie already filmed!! Quite pleased to hear that and I look forward to the finished product (not to mention my behind-the-scenes dvd!!)!! If you do do the tour, may I suggest Florida? More specifically the Orlando area… Since there are tons of people there… That’s why… And if you wanna make another movie, it’s good here too… Granted the weather can be iffy, but lately it’s been behaving!! (o^.^)b

As for any other questions… Will your wife continue to add her written thoughts on Cinemassacre or was that only for the time you were away? There weren’t many, but they were fun to read (^.^) Also, for those who donated enough, the promised copy of the script: will that be delivered before the movie is released, as in a day it’s scheduled to come out, or will be sent out the same day as the movie is released? I ask mostly because, if possible, I’d like to be a nerd and follow along the film to the script ahahah (^.^;;)

Thanks for your hard work !! I just love AVGN and I know this movie will be fantastic !!

    May 26, 2012 at 12:27 am

    Hey James,
Awesome updates, I can’t wait for this movie! Highest anticipated future film along with The Dark Knight Rises! I appreciate you uploading videos even though you’re obviously super busy at the moment. You’re the man.
I was just wondering when you and Kevin sat down to write the movie, did you guys go back and watch individual AVGN videos to try and capture certain classic nerd things and lines or did you guys just trust yourselves and write from what you know and love about the character and not look back at any of the videos? I find this to be the most challenging aspect of making a movie based on an established thing. Thanks for all the hard work, James!

  • tuknrolle

    May 26, 2012 at 12:42 am

Wooo! Glad to see you back and that you made it safely. Can’t wait to see the movie when it’s finally done and definitely can’t wait for some new AVGN videos in the mean time. Good luck with the rest of development!

Hey James! My name is Sergio Badillo, and I can’t tell you how glad I am by seeing you accomplishing every objective you have in your life and every step to achieve your whole life’s dream. I’ve seen recently your 200 Cinemassacre film and I now realize how great it must have been for you achieving such a goal as making a ‘BIg Scale Film’ as you calledl it, so deepest congratulations for that. But as well as to greet you I’d like to offer my services as Sound Engineer and Musical Producer. I don’t know if I could ever help you, because I live outside the US (as you might think for my lack of good writing). But if I could help you in any way, in editing, making the foley, mixing, mastering, in 2.0 or 5.1 or whatever activity related to Sound Engineering… please contact me and let me know about it, at [email protected]. Thanks for every laugh you’ve ever got out off me and keep the accomplishments coming!

As far as Board James go can I suggest Axis and Allies. I have many fond memories of this game with friends but dear God did it take forever to play.
Also I donated to the movie but I recently changed my email, is there a way I can still get the behind the scenes vid?

Man filming in Los Angles is such a catch 22. It’s damned expensive , but you get the professionals and the weather. I live in L.A. and yeah its crazy but there is nowhere else where so many people know there stuff.

  • Five5x

    May 26, 2012 at 1:54 am

I was wondering if Mike was going to make a cameo in the movie? If not, you should have a 5 or 10 minute mini video of him at the end of the movie or as a bonus scene on the dvd.

While you’re away in L.A, Mike’s having some fun at the AVGN house. He sleeps in your bed, moves your stuff around, sells some games for hookers, fixes your Jaguar cd then breaks before you come home, has a house party, eats your food, snoops through your unmentionables and other things with hilarious results. Then end it with you arriving home not knowing about anything that happened while you were gone!

  • thefro

    May 26, 2012 at 1:56 am

You need to use eventful.com (what Paranormal Activity used) to have people sign up to get a screening of the movie in their city/town.

Also I see there are things like distribber.com (that Indiegogo runs) that let you sell the movie digitally on ITunes/Amazon and/or stream on Hulu/Netflix in HD. It looks like that costs about $2700 on distribber for all that. They claim you keep 100% of what they get from those services after that fee on distribber. Obviously you’d need a lawyer to go through all that and to make sure you retain distribution rights, etc. That’s something to look at if a traditional film distributor doesn’t pick up your movie. People are definitely going to want other options beyond DVD (and I hope there’s Blu-Ray too).

Also, you could go through a service like Tunecore or CDBaby to sell the movie soundtrack on ITunes/Amazon, have it on spotify, etc. I’ve got some good friends who have a band in Nashville (they’ve been working with John Carter Cash) and that’s one of the ways they’ve sold their latest album.

    Hi James

I’ve been a huge fan sinse like four years from now and i wantes to say first that you’re awesome.

I was wondering about international release. The worst part is that i live in Spain and i don’t know if will be able to read the DVD because of region protection.

Anyways, have you tried to submitting it to sites like Netflix, Voddler or even Steam?

Burlington? I’m from Welland, Ontario! Maybe a half hour drive! I might come see you man! That being said, I would LOVE more episodes of “You know whats bullshit”, but Board James would be fantastic, as well as more AVGN! Pretty much anything you do would be great! Glad you had a blast in LA, must have been amazing being able to live your dream, awesome man!

what a nice guy you are, james. you must have some nice parents or good genes or something. You are hardworking, have humility and integrity. Your character alone merits success, but you are so prolific and dedicated to your fans that I am certain you will be a big name in film direction one day. Your wisdom shared in this video is inspiring and makes the task of filmaking seem far less intimidating . Thank you for giving us so much for free!

    Hey James,
Can’t wait for when your movie is released, and I have a question.

If you were given an unlimited budget to make your current movie would there be any changes you’d make and why?

  • Lietuvis

    May 26, 2012 at 5:36 am

James, please seriously consider distributing your movie among European cinemas. You have a huge fan support in this continent. Greetings from Lithuania.

Congrats on getting back home. Can’t wait to see the final product.

As far as theater showings and whatnot for the movie, have you tried talking to Kevin Smith? His SmodCo company supposedly is meant for smaller Indie type releases. Just thought I’d let you know if you haven’t heard it yet.

  • waltonky

    May 26, 2012 at 6:15 am

Glad to hear you’re back, James.

Regarding Monster Madness, I do enjoy it and you’re right that it wouldn’t feel like a Cinemassacre October without it. But given the constraints on time, would it be possible to compromise and maybe do a weekly series with a Halloween special? Perhaps talk about more recent horror films.

As far as the AVGN movie goes, I definitely think you should offer up a DVD and a digital format. DVD could cost more, but come with extras like storyboards, deleted scenes, commentary, etc. Or even a riff of your own movie.

Actually, you should contact Rifftrax, see if you could be a guest riffer on a movie and see if you can promote your film as well. I imagine the fanbase from Cinemassacre and Rifftrax overlaps somewhat so it could be pretty good.

Your talk of L.A. seems to imply that, while it was enjoyable, it’s probably not going to be used again for another film. Am I correct? If so, we’d love to see you here in Michigan.

Finally, you talked a lot about things you enjoyed about filming the movie. What was the worst thing? Or what was something that went catastrophically wrong, if anything?

Thanks James, keep up the fantastic work.

    May 26, 2012 at 6:21 am

I second Lietuvis’s comment. There are a lot of independent film festivals in Europe, such as the Gothenburg (Sweden) International Film festival, A friend of mine played a small part, (Fredrich the German Pervert, which is funny because he is neither German nor a pervert) in an indi film produced by a Danish production company. After the showing, the film maker and some of the actors did a Q and A session with the audience.

By the way, I’m not Swedish. I’m an American ex-pat who has been living in Gothenburg, Sweden for the last seven years. I just know your film would be popular here. Swedes love anything American and they love video games.

Anyway, good luck with the continuing project.

    May 26, 2012 at 6:44 am

Is the movie going to have surround sound (5.1 or better)?

Another idea is (again, if you’re not picked up by a distributor), is have fans work with you on subtitles for the movie in French, Spanish, German, etc. I was pretty surprised that you have some videos on nicovideo.jp that folks have subbed into Japanese and they have 100,000+ views.

Welcome back…. I have a question/suggestion. In some of the AVGN videos, I see orange cart SNES games… What are these and maybe review them? Seems odd to request this but I own a lot of SNES games, 80ish or so.. And I never seen one, I also searched around on the net and can find no info…Anyways, I ask because it bugs me, they catch my eye in the AVGN videos every time =)

It’s nice to see you back home, James. We followed every step in the movie making, can’t wait to buy the DVD… I hope they’re going to ship it to Italy. From what I’ve seen, the movie has a certain “Be Kind Rewind” mood in it, I’ll love it for shure. Take all the time you need to complete it, don’t rush!

Oh James! you made my fucking day when you said fuck CGI characters :D! CG for fixing up screen details is totally fine, looks like you’re living up to what you’ve said before “CG can be a good thing, when used right”.

    Now for my question:

Is there gonna be any inventive sort of cursewords in the film we’ve never heard? I’m talking about some really insane ones we’ve never think to come up with.

  • leightonandoff

    May 26, 2012 at 7:16 am

I don’t want to complain as I’m a big fan and you work so hard, but I do a feel a little let down in one respect. It seems the Indiegogo donators get all the perks but the people who donated via the Cinemassacre site get let down.
I donated via Paypal on your site when it was first announced that all donations for those 2 weeks would go to the movie. I would love to have donated again when the Indiegogo fundraiser came round but unfortunately I work a minimum wage job and couldn’t afford to at that time.
So I feel a bit let down that people who donated to the movie but didn’t do it via the Indiegogo site are not going to see the behind the scenes footage. I really didn’t want to type this and I’m glad I still donated but, c’mon, don’t just favour those that donated via Indiegogo, give those Cinemassacre AVGN movie donators some love too.
That said, still can’t wait to see the movie and the other new stuff you’ll release in the future.

James, I was wondering if there is anything us fans could do to help try to get your movie into theaters even locally. I felt like I should go o the local theaters and tell them about your movie and ask them if they were going to be showing it. Or maybe it’s better just to try to get the buzz out there over the internet to groups that maybe haven’t heard of you yet. Perhaps Mike could design some kind of poster to fit on a standard piece of paper that people could print out and start covering telephone polls with, ala Andre the Giant’s “OBEY”.
Any ways I think even the best hollywood movie still needs allot of advertising and buzz built up before theaters will show it and people will see it, so let us know how we can help that side of the film.

    Best of luck,
    -Mike Bevi

James! Always been a big fan. Awesome to hear how much of an experience you had. Being an aspiring film maker myself, I definitely took in all the crucial advice you gave in this video.

It’s sweet that you’re coming to visit Canada finally. I have to recommend attending FanExpo in Toronto August 23rd-26th. it’s easily the biggest one in Canada. I’m sure myself and many fans would want to get a chance to meet you.

Thanks for the constant AVGN movie updates, working on your movie must be really stressful, and the fact you do that as well as upload other movies really shows your dedication to your fans, so just wanted to say thanks for that.

By the way have you thought of doing a review for the old Metal Gear games? I know they’re not bad games, but they sure can be stressing, not to mention it would be great seeing you and Mike in costume for that game. ๐Ÿ˜›

    Hey James,

I’m an aspiring audio/sound engineer, and I’m just wondering how closely the audio industry is tied in with film. You mentioned that music and audio is a whole different story, and I’m curious as to how you are choosing to approach that spectrum of the filmmaking process. I know I would love a career working closely with independent filmmakers.

    Best wishes,

…I admit there are times I have my doubts about the movie, but when I hear James talking so passionately about his work, I feel more confident.

I’m excited to hear we’ll have new AVGN and Board James episodes soon. I really hope we can have Monster Madness this year too.

Thanks James for sharing your insights.
When you say LA is expensive, can you elaborate in what way exactly?
I am in the Netherlands, and over here equipment rental (for example) is much more expensive (because there is less competition). I also think that since many new and eager acting talents are drawn to LA, it would be easier to find good actors willing to work for less (so they can prove themselves). Or am I totally wrong on this?

  • MegaManMan1987

    May 26, 2012 at 1:34 pm

Hey James, glad to hear your back here on the East Coast. You got a lot of fans up here in Massachusetts, especially Cape Cod (a lot of nerds and artists). I’ve been a big fan of yours since I first saw the Roger Rabbit episode back in 2006 and it’s great to see your dreams and aspirations coming into fruition. I have a request for a nerd episode. My favorite episodes have been your homage episodes like Street Fighter 2010, Ninja Gaiden, and the 4 part Castlevania series. I’ve been obsessed with Mega Man since about 1990 when i originally got the first 2 NES games. So my request is that maybe when you have time in the future you could make a kinda Mega Man retrospect. Like picking up where you left off from the Chronologically Confused episode. So idk, think about it but I bet you would enjoy making this one as much as we would all enjoy watching it because it’s just such an epic series of games. And still to this day I haven’t beat the two original games lol. I’ve developed quite a complex thanks to them. Hey, you’re a huge inspiration James, Mike, Kevin, etc… i was in a dark place a few years ago and I went through a faze where your videos were the only thing keeping me goin (it’s the truth). God Bless and good luck.

Hey James! I’m a big fan of yours and have been since my Uncle showed me your TMNT review when I was around 12 or 13. It sounds like you’re doing a lot of work on the movie so far and I can’t wait until your next episode comes out. Btw, I know Burlington is your first Canadian show but try somewhere closer to Ottawa sometime in the future for the more Eastern Ontario fans! Keep up the good work!

I can’t believe James is coming to Canada, my jaw hit my desk when he announced he’ll be in Burlington. I live relatively close, so I guess I’ll have to make Con Bravo my first con ever so I can meet James! Apparently Roo is going too, it’d be nice to meet him as well.

Can’t wait to see the AVGN movie though, and as much as it pains me to wait, I know it’s necessary and will be worth it. Also, these kind of update videos are much appreciated, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s interested.

Will you be offering a digital download version of the film, as opposed to DVD-only? I’m pretty sure a good portion of us don’t have DVD players (or computers with them).

You might be reluctant to do such a thing, the reality is that the film is going to be on all the bittorrent sites the moment you start shipping DVDs. If you aren’t able to beat the convenience and speed of torrents, you’re just losing money.

If you need some examples, check out Kooky (or anything related to the Amanita crew).

Thanks for the update! By the way, I love Monster Madness, and would definitely like to see an update. But I wouldn’t want to see your film delayed because of it. If you get to the point where you’re not “feelin’ it”, don’t force it. I’d rather have a year with no MM, than see a half-baked effort.

So thanks, again. Oh, and one more thing: “Welcome back, your dreams were your ticket out”…

Welcome back James!!! So i know you usually do every day for Monster Madness, but knowing how busy you are I don’t think fans would be upset if you did half of them and Mike did the other half maybe? It would take a load off your shoulders and you guys could do competition like the Titans of Terror but Mike’s choices against yours or something, I think it would be great.

Also, are you still accepting donations for the movie or do you have everything you need to finish it up the way you want?

  • ryanmcn

    May 26, 2012 at 6:26 pm

Great video, it is really easy to tell you are enjoying being home.

I was thinking that maybe you could sell the movie on iTunes or some other form of online store as a digital download. I would seriously consider contacting the likes of Microsoft and Sony also to see if theres any possibility the movie could make it onto Zune Marketplace, Xbox Marketplace and PSN respectively.

While it may seem like a longshot and I really don’t know how much of a cut you would have to give to the stores, it is a way of getting it into peoples homes quicker and getting a bigger audience. Any gamer with a youtube account knows who the Nerd character is, I am sure a few Microsoft and Sony employees would see the movie as profitable and “in demand”.

One thing that will truley lick balls is that people who can attend the movie festivles and stuff will see the movie before the international fans or fans who just cant attend the showings. It would be great to have the digital download option available when the show launches in festivles / the tour. While it totally defeats the purpose of a show tour, it will suck knowing people like myself will have an extended wait to see the show.

anyway, enjoy your time at home. Motherfucker Mike has been in your fridge and he broke a few games, he just wont tell you ๐Ÿ˜‰

Did you have to be The Nerd at times to get something accomplished? Basically, did you have to be agressive to get someone’s attention for your team to be able to film in certain area’s?

Did anyone go out of there way to cheat you(renting land, waiting on them etc)?

Did anything go horribly wrong that would make for a funny story someday?

    Thanks man!

A digital release is the best way to go. DONT use a publisher, they will add NOTHING to a project like this and will just take all the money. The business is changing and you no longer have to do films in Hollywood with a publisher backing. Most movies and shows are filmed other places because cost of doing business in LA has gotten so ridiculous as you discovered.
Do some conventions and a couple theaters in key cities to get people talking about the film. Then do some kind of worldwide digital release on itunes with a pre-order option months in advance. Digital distribution is the lowest cost and you know it will reach all your fans because the internet is how they found you in the first place.

If you take the film on tour, make sure to come to Canada! It would definitely be worth the time! I can help book a theater in Winnipeg. There’s even a rent-able Imax theater with many many seats that would definitely all be filled for the AVGN movie.

Liked the update on the finale of the shoot. I agree with what you said. Being a make up artist, I deal with all of those problems that you had to indure. Next time you shoot your next film, come to North Carolina. Aside from my home state, there is a 25% tax incentive on film productions.

    If you are not going to do a cinematicred carpet release (Which I’m sure this film deserves) then ;

    1) Release the movie as a digital download for $15 (or whatever ya price point is).
2)Offer the movie on dvd/blue ray as a “special edition” only (Maybe signed). but includes other pyschical goodies, such as a movie poster, script, art/cinemotagraphy book (whatever else) for a premnuim $60 or something.
3 Optional) Offer on dvd/blue ray at a later date along with the other AVGN Series Volumes.

This way, it’s be accessible to EVERYONE on a day 1 world wide release! as a fast to dristibute to the masses anywhere world wide and for those who wish for a pyschical copy can still have one, and one thats quiet special. Without you having to worry bout the hassle of mass pyschical distribution ( and n cheaper on your end too).

    Best regards, lotsa love ~

Hello Again James, once again out of love do I propose yet another suggestion

Perhaps for Monster Madness this year, you could combine it with Board James and do – Halloween/Monster based boards games. Such as the nightmare series or Ghouls and Goblins the board game, Boris Karloff’s monster game, the fury of dracula etc

Whether this will take you more time or less I do not know, as most of your board games appear to be from your childhood, and one only has a limited childhood. So maybe this year ya could splash out on some new monster based games you have yet to enjoy and give em a blast

    forever and always,
    The mother fucking moleman himself.

Speaking of funding, if you ever do another big production, have you considered filming in Canada?

A lot of films have been done in British Columbia because it’s so cheap and we have so many amazing locations to film at. A ton of films are done at Squamish, a small town near Vancouver.

Here’s some advice for you ,James ; Take your time with the movie . Don’t let the pressure get to you so that you end up rushing the process .
In the end you will feel better about the movie if you took the time to make it the way you want it to be .
We are all itching to see the movie ,but we also want the best movie possible and want you to feel like it is what you wanted it to be . If that makes sense ….

In a some ways, watching James’ videos is like watching the Truman Show. It’s like watching someone grow up and pursue his dreams day by day from childhood to adulthood (not in a creepy way). We know his interests, his struggles, and his goals and the best part is that he films them for us.
All I can say is thank you, James for doing this. I know many people and I have learned a lot from your videos. Your not only an inspiration but also a form of mentor and motivator.

You said in the video that you didn’t have time to eat many times but before I even heard you say that, the first thing I noticed when I saw the icon for the video is it looked like you dropped weight. ๐Ÿ™ I hope you’re taking good care of yourself, eat plenty of yummy steak dinners! lol
And on a side note, I really hope Mike and Kyle will be in the movie at some point too, they were really great in the AVGN episodes haha. Definitely the best side characters ๐Ÿ™‚
Take care and remember, slow and steady wins the race and make sure your passion drives you more than obligation to fans.

Finally… A reason to go to Burlington!

Why you shot in L.A. still eludes me. Any REAL movie company shoots in Canada.
You want it to look like L.A. use Vancouver.
You want it to look like New York use Toronto or Hamilton.
    You want deserts… Alberta.

My advice… Use the Toronto film Festival.
My buddies did it when they debuted Monster Brawl and now you can get that movie ANYWHERE; even Walmart.

Thanks for the updates. I have to admit that I am living vicariously thru your experience, I made a bunch of crap videos when I was a kid and loved it, but circumstance never allowed me to take it seriously. I really think the best part of this is your keeping us in the loop. A big part of the entertainment value for me is watching the process. – On board James: I really like playing board games with my kids, but I don’t know many really great ones. So it would be good if you could outline some really great games for one episode, in addition to reviewing the crazy funny crap ones. … last thing… .there are a lot of things that are bullshit…. but I don’t have anyone to tell me what those things are….??? Thanks again.

Ok James. First I would like to say Welcome Back and Congrats on the successful shooting thus-far. Here is my question.

Will Mike have a role in the film?

This may seem like a silly question but considering the fact that he has been there with you from practically the beginning, it seems fair and right that he have some sort of role in the actual film. Not to mention him doing his best to satisfy the hungry Cinemassacre fans while you were away.

  • HomingMissiles

    May 27, 2012 at 10:02 pm

Will the DVD be released at the same time as the first screenings of the movie in cons, festivals and/or theathers? (provided they happen, and I’m pretty sure they will!). If so, will there be some kind of pre-order sales for it?
Also, have you considered some sort of one-time, scheduled online screening, kinda like those live shows that Youtube streams every once in a while? I speak as part of your “foreign” audience that would love to watch your movie as soon as possible once it’s finished, but probably won’t be able to watch it on the good ol’ big screen.

By the way, I’d like to congratulate you and Mike for all the hard work you guys have put on Cinemassacre past the half year. I can’t possibly count all the hours of enjoyment I’ve had watching your whole catalogue of videos front to back.

  • Ben_from_G-town

    May 27, 2012 at 10:21 pm

That’s a shame that it might not get a wide release. I had hoped it would at least be in select theaters. I do hope you can hook up with a distributor, because after everything that happened with the fans getting together in support, all that work you guys did, it really does deserve a wide theatrical release!

Still, regardless of what happens, I’ll definitely be getting the DVD when all is said and done.

Seeing as how busy you are going to be for the foreseeable future, I think it could be kind of cool if you “crowd-sourced” Monster Madness. Maybe take video submissions from fans, and you could pick the ones you like best. I’m sure it would still be a lot of work, but it would save you a bit of time, and still get some quality material out in time for October.

Whatever you decide will be great. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to the AVGN movie like the rest of your fans!

James, when your movie is complete, submit it to every movie festival imaginable. That’s the best way to get publicity (prizes and awards are a bonus if you end up getting them).

Register a separate domain dedicated solely to the movie. That’s the best way to get distributors interested.

During the fundraiser the hardest part was finding the “donate” button on your site. It’s getting a bit cluttered. The Nerd movie deserves its own site. If any money is left over from the production – put it into promotion and distribution.

I admire your dedication and work ethic James. Over the last 9 years you have done something for this ramshackle community of game enthusiasts that will be remembered for a very, very long time. You’ve inspired alot of us to move forward with our own endeavors and for that alone we should all be grateful to you. Please Out.

It’ll be worth waiting for, hell, like you once said about ghostbusters 3, even if it’s you and kevin sittin’ around taking a shit, I’ll see it! (maybe that should be the trailer…)
Thanks so much for continuing to work on some regular episodes, I was curious about that.
Hey at least you ARE home, and the rest of the work should be a lot less stressful.

  • May 30, 2012 at 11:36 am

I would make more sense if it was release in 2013, more time foe editing and other procedures. It’s great that your dream of making a movie came to reality, nice.

Speaking of dreams, as a gamer, I can understand about this guy’s dream, if you can:

  • TheUnquestionableChain

    May 30, 2012 at 1:39 pm

    2 questions:

    1) How long do you expect the movie to be (as in 90 minutes, 2 hours, etc)?

    2) Once the film is complete (whenever that may be), are you going to continue doing semi-regular game reviews? If so, what games have you been wanting to review?

I’m just wondering if the movie will have a digital release. As in downloadable. So I won’t have to wait a gazillion years (it will feel like) for the DVD to arrive after I order it.

  • SoTH

    May 31, 2012 at 9:44 pm

My opinion is that you should do something on Attack of the Killer Tomatoes one day or another, for Monster Madness or even the NES game for an AVGN review. Maybe not a MM dedicated fully to it, unless that is, a full MM is too much for now. If it weren’t though, it would probably have to be a MM about intentional horror parodies, which there are alot of, like Love at First Bite and Dracula: Dead and Loving it.

I just got done watching Return and thought it was funny. I don’t think you’ve done anything for AKTs yet thought it would be a suggestion.

When are you coming to Australia? You have plenty of fans down here!

  • MarioWii

    June 3, 2012 at 11:35 pm

@ozzmandozz @JRock Let’s see… Canada is America’s next door neighbor, and Australia is in the middle of the ocean several miles away from America. I’m sure James would never want to disappoint any of his fans, but knowing how much stuff he takes just to go to California, he probably can’t go on a plane to go somewhere far away. Unless someone builds a giant bridge that connects Australia to America, I highly doubt that James is going to visit Australia.

    June 4, 2012 at 2:47 pm

Its great your back, and hoping that your movie will be awesome to watch.
I do not know how many months its been, since I saw a new avgn episode, and to be honest when you said your gonna start doing more episodes I almost shit my pants.

I almost gave up, I mean Mike’s videos are okay but there’s one reason I come on this site is to and that is too watch you and your comedy. Anyways I hope your next episode is something fucking awesome, I’m just way to over excited I know your busy with other shit but its like a favorite band breaking up and then after awhile they get back together and they’re new album is like have an orgasim multipule times.

Looking forward to seeing the finished movie, regardless of it being straight to DVD or in theaters. As for Monster Madness, I’m sure the fans can help out with that. Hell, even I have some ideas if you need some. But, if you can’t do it this year, we’ll understand.

That is good to know that the Movie is coming along nicely, can’t wait to see it!

It be interesting to see what you think of the Gamera movies sometime.

I noticed you haven’t picked a “bad” Neo Geo game. I might suggest Ashita no Joe!

    June 5, 2012 at 5:29 pm

Sounds great! Great Advice! For a theater release in Chicago, you should check out The Music Box Theater on Southport Ave. A great indy venue and thats where they premiered the King of Kong here.
I owe a lot of my monster movie knowledge to monster madness, so its like you said, “it wouldn’t be october without it”!

Wow, can’t believe James filmed in my favorite bar Blipsy Barcade in Los Angeles!! I’m there all the time. So stoked that will be in the movie. This is like experiencing one of James’ location quests– only in reverse (since I knew ’bout it before it was in the movie)

  • June 10, 2012 at 3:11 pm

Hey, James. Long time viewer, first time commenting. I just wanted to say that, in regards to your comments about finding places outside of L.A. to film movies, Atlanta has a growing film community where films are being made here all the time. Also this is where they film the show The Walking Dead. There’s also a huge horror following here too.

So if ever you plan on making a film again, I’d recommend you look into Atlanta, or just Georgia in general. It’s a lot cheaper than L.A., of course, but also because it’s on the East coast (technically Southeast, but whatever), it’s a lot closer to where you are. Just something to mull over.

And if you’re looking for theaters to show the AVGN movie, you ought to look into this place here in Atlanta called the Plaza Theatre. It’s the oldest operating theater in the city, and it’s a good place for independent filmmakers to showcase their stuff. So if you do plan on doing a tour with the movie, the Plaza would definitely be worth looking into.

    That is all. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey james! Big fan, really gald to hear things are going so well on the AVGN movie, also looking forward to more AVGN eps! next time you’re on the west coast come visit me in Grants Pass OR… (I know wishfull thinking…) But seriously I’m sure you would be able to give alot of insight to my theater arts/film students at the small private school I teach at. In any case I can’t wait to see the film, keep up the good work man, you are an inspiration to us all.

    your big fan

    This is one passionate nerd.
He loves what he does even more than we do, and we DO love what he does.
James, I wish you keep doing this thing you do for a long long time.

Please try releasing this at the Ritz Theater in Philadelphia Pa, as they usually play smaller titles. This is where I first saw Let the Right One In before it was remade into Let Me In. They usually garner a large following for their releases.

why not get cult favorite Buckethead to do the theme or some of the music for the movie I think his quirky style adds to the bizarreness that is The Nerd. I heard that you guys are using a chicken coop (could use him as a tie in for a cameo) but I used wiki so you guys know how reliable that is. Can’t wait for ET!!! First time in my life wanting to see a shitty game!

Hi James! This is my first post on this site, and I wanted to say that your game reviews have been fantastic! I feel like I have been educated from each one that I watch. I also want to give credit Mike and the others on the Cine massacre team, for all of the hard work and dedication they put out for us to watch and enjoy! I had many great laughs with your reviews. I have also seen some of your board game reviews, and I found them enjoyable as well! I hope your movie is going well and I am looking forward to see it! Have a great day!
