I’m glad you’re doing these James. We’re all aware of how busy things are for you lately and this is a good piece of content to keep the site updated. A lot of us wonder how much of our bullshit you get to read or if it has any bearing on your work and the mailbag videos will help to explain that i think. Thanks man.

And so it begins you have to pay for videos and dont tell me its to support the movie if a want to support the movie i donate and i have and now i have to pay for this 🙁

    • TwistedSpeech

      December 13, 2011 at 3:34 pm

@Goodguy You obviously have not watched constantly. He said a few weeks ago that the paying was optional and that it was only to receive bonus material if you wanted it. It does go toward his movie, it alway goes towards Screwattack and Cinemassacre. So don’t complain about the free stuff your still getting. Just enjoy what you have seen and will continue to see.

People didn’t like Rob the Robot and the Nintendo World Championship episodes?

Personally – I thought they were the best ones, and I really like the directions they take.

      December 13, 2011 at 3:52 pm

totally agreed! i LOVED the rob review, it’s one of my absolute favorite nerd episodes ^^ @WestBuiltAMountain

Who didn’t like Rob The Robot or World Champion? Those were awesome! I could understand some of the earlier ones prior to that, meaning some of the last 10 episodes before the Rob The Robot episode, but that one had a lot of over the top work in it. I can’t say there has been a bad episode. Sure some were not as good as others, but none were just plain horrible.

I have a request, James. Do a bit wars special. Do a brief history about the history between Nintendo and Sega from the 1980s all the way up to today. Pick some of your favorite NES/SNES and Sega Master/Genesis titles, as well as your most hated, and talk about them for a bit (no pun intended). Do some comparisons between the systems for games that appeared on both or all four consoles. Even if you reviewed them before, that would be okay with me. Like Dick Tracy for instance. It is both on the NES & Genesis, and yet two totally different games. That’s a special I, and surely lots of others, would like to see.

Thanks for all your hard work, James. You have definitely made all these years happy ones for me and many others who watch your videos constantly.

@JustinChambers Yes, but that was a joke. There needs to be a more in-depth look. Not a so much, who sucked and who ruled, because both ruled as far as I’m concerned.

@TwistedSpeech I feel the need to chime in here to expand on James’ point from my own perspective. I often have the nerd videos running at home as I’m doing other things, working, playing with the kids, fixing dinner, etc.

While I love episodes like rob the robot, and the super mario world ep, and certainly appreciate the gap of creative effort between such an episode and one like say, the original turtles ep, I still prefer the latter.

I’ll use a quote from James ROLFE: A NO BUDGET DREAM (2002) movie, in which he talks about enjoying making “bite sized” films, it’s the nature of these shorter, snippet like episodes that I love so much, where the larger episodes have more depth and story and as such, demand a little more time and attention.

It’s like grabbing a burger on the run instead of sitting down to a four course meal (I have 4 kids, I never sit down 😉 )

I definitely appreciate and love all he does, but thought I’d share a perspective that supports his point; there’s nothing like stubbing your toe while carrying laundry out to the living room when the intro to the Nintendo Power ep. comes on – AAAASSS!

So is this gonna be a 1 episode a day for the next six days or is this one episode a week or what ?

  • Marvipe

    December 13, 2011 at 7:20 pm

that first funny entry was the most idiotic thing I’ve ever heard. the fact that Twilight is so popular is a BAD thing, and to use it as an example of how to attract attention and gain popularity is like using Hitler as an example of how to run a country. Yes, I just compared Twilight to Hitler. I hate it that much.

in fact, using sex appeal as a way to get popularity in and of itself is despicable, disgusting, and all around fucked up. (one reason WHY I loathe twilight)

on a lighter note, nice shirt James.

Since when are the people from Twilight attractive? And what’s much worse? The make the posters extremely ugly. (because of the people that are photoshopped)

And If Twilight is a good movie , I still don’t want it in my collection because of the dvd cover.

Movies like re-animator are fun to have in a collection because of the cover art (and the movie itself)

If I ever don’t like a AVGN episode, I’ll just demand my money back.

    Which is uh… nothing.

    • JeramieKruger

      December 17, 2011 at 4:01 am

@nowhere4321 Amen… Yes, some are better than others… but I love them all. I’ve been an AVGN for 4 years now… I am not going anywhere.

Damn it. Now I want a sex video starring James and Mike because of that guy’s message. (Yes, rainbows.)

  • sourman

    December 15, 2011 at 7:26 pm

it’s killing me that it is only once a month…a whole year! that’s just crazy. I think you should instead of taking all this time to make a video, I think you should just make some barely edited videos to get them out at the same time, but giving you more time to make them funnier.

  • DonSkiver

    December 15, 2011 at 7:38 pm

One nerd episode a year would kill me. Don’t ever do that to us, James. Even if you make episodes that are along the same lines as your “Simon’s Quest” (AVGN Episode 1) video, I would be ecstatic.

  • Arlo

    December 16, 2011 at 2:24 am

Looking forward to more, and of course like others I’m vouching for more AVGN reviews and looking forward to the movie.

First thing that caught my eye in this video, though, is that the white balance on you is way magenta, and I’m assuming it’s from the light from your monitors (since the monitors themselves seem pretty well balanced). If it’s the monitors, there are utilities out there that can shift them into a warming color palette temporarily that might help the pale magenta look you’re getting. In fact I know that the nVidia tool has this built in and I have to assume that ATI has a similar functionality. I know these are casual videos, but it shouldn’t take much more than a couple of clicks to warm things up a bit!

Keep up the hard work and thanks for the laughs.

i like the the Idea and its very charming BUT the streaming on ScrewAttack is sooooo slow!

i dunno why mby. because of the Distance to Europe?

never had such Problems to watch your Stuff before.

    December 16, 2011 at 5:42 pm

People seem to only care about quantity and wants you to make the same old videos over and over. I’m all for change and can’t wait to see the movie no matter how long it’s going to take. Keep at it James and don’t care about all the hate you’ve been getting on youtube lately (because of this video). Many have unsubscribed and that’s too bad.

    • Arlo

      December 17, 2011 at 2:20 am

@weirdbananas Yeah, I agree. “Give me exactly what I want or I’m tuning out, you jerk.” I mean, I can empathize, I’ve been over the old AVGN episodes multiple times and I’d love to be able to do that again (I only found AVGN earlier this year), but alas, that’s not the case and all things must change and evolve.

I’d rather eat the rotten asshole of a road killed skunk and down it with beer than deal with the lameness that is Screw Attack… But I do it out of love. I hope you know what all your fans are willing to sacrifice to watch your vids, James… lol

  • JeramieKruger

    December 17, 2011 at 3:58 am

Also, after watching the video in its entirety…

    1) The whole scrolling through the messages was a MESS… sometimes you zoomed in, sometimes you zoomed out… Sometimes you scrolled fast and sometimes you scrolled slow. Sometimes it felt like you were reading the lines as they were highlighted, and other times it felt like you were highlighting the lines as you said them (the latter is better, btw). Just make it consistent throughout…. Please. I don’t like getting nauseous while watching vids online.

    2) Can’t you do your own spin off of Mailbag for Cinemassacre… please? One a month is so fail… But I love these.. and it seems like the time that you have to allot to this is a lot smaller than a Nerd episode… So why not do like two of these a month on your own accord. Seems like a win/win situation, to me.

    3) I got REALLY freaked out when you started talking about Nerd episodes occurring once a year… I simply cannot fathom this reality. *shudders*

  • December 18, 2011 at 12:12 am

Loved the mailbag James! I would also like to say that when you answered back an email I sent you say a year ago or something, I was very honored and honestly didn’t think I’d hear back. You are truly an awesome dude and the fact that you’re making a mailbag series shows that you do care about the responses from your fans and really says a lot about your character. Thank you and as always I look forward to whatever you do!

Bah! You’re sexy enough as it is. lol. cute laugh, super talented, what more could you ask for, really?

Sex appeal or not, you inspire lots of people and that’s all that really matters. 🙂

I’m glad he answered the question about the AVGN series. When I first heard about the AVGN film I was happy to hear that he would still make an AVGN video every now and then. Although I soon got very disapointed, the quality went down the drain. Of course as fans we are used to the very high quality of the old(er) videos but the latest video Bible Games 3 is really bad (imo) not only compared to the old videos. I understand that the AVGN means a lot to James and I absolutely respect that, but I really hope he takes even more time for the next video even if it means that we have to wait a few months.

    • LukasSprehn

      February 16, 2012 at 6:52 pm

@Olivania This video was recorded a long time ago. And I don’t think he lacks quality. Maybe you’re thinking this because you saw one of his “art block” videos (art block as in no inspiration when he made those.) I think he will make a great comeback after the film.

And he won’t be able to make any at the moment really due to the film. I think the AVGN series will be taken over by Mike while he’s gone… sadly, but just look at the way he walked away from Motherfuckin’ Monday and started doing his vids as Cinemassacre reviews instead 🙂

That was a great little q & a. The first letters were funny and I’m glad they got spotlighted, but the last part was very insightful as well. It’s always cool to hear behind the scenes stuff and how entertainers feel about their work. Oh, and thanks for answering my friend’s question about whether you’d review Ninja Gaiden a while back, and actually even doing it eventually! You guys are definitely very fan friendly and responsive, which is awesome, and we appreciate that.

I actually think the AVGN movie sounds really interesting. I love road trip/journey movies. Some are better than others, and I have a feeling yours will be one of the better ones!

Question: Where is episode 2? O.o Was this a typo?

Response: Thank you, this is friggen’ funny 😀 I love these Mailbag videos haha! And don’t listen to the people below me, they know nothing about you and how artistic you really are, I think. I think only your wife and close friends like Sean, Kevin and Mike should know that, and they’re grateful to you. It adds to the “mystery” of your personality. The part that are actually visible to us 🙂

Go and rock on, James! We love you 😀
