FIRST!!!!…very cool james
November 6, 2011 at 12:16 am
wow this must have involved a lot of research to do a whole series of matchups like this.
great job and keep up the good work
November 6, 2011 at 12:24 am
Excellent video! And an excellent matchup! I was rooting for Price all along.
It really is interesting, for those of us who are unaware, to see how many films these horror icons starred in together. I’m really looking forward to seeing who comes out on top. Keep up the good work, James!
November 6, 2011 at 12:29 am
Funny as hell! 😀 😀 More these!
November 6, 2011 at 12:56 am
loved it james, good work(:
November 6, 2011 at 1:05 am
I would’ve never thought of pitting classic horror genre actors against each other. More interesting than I initially would’ve thought for sure. Keep it going…
November 6, 2011 at 1:07 am
Funny and well put, congrats!
November 6, 2011 at 1:14 am
That’s what you get when you watch a video made by James Rolfe.
I love him 😀
November 6, 2011 at 1:19 am
Very informative and entertaining, James.
November 6, 2011 at 1:40 am
I really hope Lugosi comes out as the final victor. It’s really hard to say if he will or not, because all of these guys are the best of the best when it comes to horror icons.
November 6, 2011 at 1:53 am
Wow.. even though i didn’t kno how the contest would work out i knew vincent price was gonna win. You should’ve included his role and speech in the black widow from the WTMN tv special by alice cooper.
November 6, 2011 at 2:37 am
Do not forget Vincent Price in the Hilarious House of Frighenstein. A Psychedelic children’s show I watched in the 70s. “Glory Glory Transylvania”.
November 6, 2011 at 3:13 am
The fuck am I watchin’?
November 6, 2011 at 3:46 am
Well this was not at all what I expected. It’s a funny idea pitting the actors against each other based on screen appearances they have made together but it seems limiting. I was hoping that you were going to do a format where you presented the different actor’s credentials and filmography and then focused on some of their career highlights. Afterwords then you would have had a poll to let the Cinemassacre members vote on who was the best out of the match up. It was entertaining but it was also unfortunately the first time I was some what disappointing by one of your projects.
November 6, 2011 at 4:10 am
Love your work–it’s a labor of love to collect and edit these films. Hate to nitpick, however, but “…is Vincent’s reflexes too fast?” (at 2:17) should have sounded wrong when you spoke it.
This is SO funny, i adore the concept. And Elvira as the ring girl, that’s a riot!!
November 6, 2011 at 4:16 am
The Motherfucking Dr. Phibes in effect!
November 6, 2011 at 4:23 am
@generalhotness: i hear what you’re saying and i thought it was going to be the same thing you described, but i’m glad it wasn’t. i like how the films decide the victor rather than the fans. but in the end we all know vincent price would kick the shit outta basil rathbone……… you know it’s true
November 6, 2011 at 4:25 am
ahhh fuck.i mean to post that @Hajeil Sounak………….. sorry genhotness
November 6, 2011 at 4:55 am
I love both these actors, so it was hard for me to pull for one over the other, but in terms of horror, Rathbone is no match for Vincent.
November 6, 2011 at 5:01 am
I Know you dont like the video game stuff but look at all those people who hate the fact they promote the opposite of what they want i.e but this drug could save lives…but it makes no money get rid of it… that type thing…please do the video games and then use the rest of time on the movie its what people like…this is cool but i just dont find myself coming to the site NEARLY as often sorry for the rough criticism but just being straight up…plus made the account to say this after watching hundreds of vids withojut a need to make one (over course of 2+ years) just saying….still love the stuff most the time
November 6, 2011 at 5:19 am
@Killarmy Well, movies and filmmaking is his passion (it’s mine too) and it’s something he loves and enjoys to do. And we enjoy watching it. We love it. And if you don’t like how it works, then stop visiting the site, there wont even be that much AVGN episodes while he works on his film (which is movie and game in one. A bonus xD).
Anyways, I love the first episode, James. Great matchup 🙂
November 6, 2011 at 5:29 am
Awesome, Vincent Price deserved to win this one.
November 6, 2011 at 5:35 am
This series is going to be awesome.
November 6, 2011 at 7:30 am
November 6, 2011 at 8:21 am
Lol this is awesome, James. I’m loving the commentary! And yeahh that’s my boy, Vincent Price pulling out the win!
November 6, 2011 at 9:45 am
*snicker* Okay, this is pretty amusing. I thought you were gonna go for a Mortal Komabt style or whatever, but this is still funny.
a post-DOTM Transformers movieverse fanfic

November 6, 2011 at 11:07 am
What no mention of Vincent Ghoul from The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo? For Shame.
November 6, 2011 at 11:22 am
I LOVE this new series. This is great. More, please.
November 6, 2011 at 11:27 am
FUCK YES! Vincent Motherfucking Price FUCK THE WORLD!!! Most prolific horror actor ever, and definitely one of the most famous. If anybody deserves to win this whole thing, it’s him. But I’m kinda pulling for Karloff and/or Lugosi myself. Also, Lee is more prolific than Price but not in the horror genre.
Hilarious House of Frightenstein ftw.
November 6, 2011 at 11:38 am
I can’t wait for more!
November 6, 2011 at 11:40 am
Great commentary James. Can’t wait for more episodes in this exciting series!
November 6, 2011 at 12:18 pm
Guess it just goes to show you can’t kill a Metaphysical Yo-yo that easily. And if Price had lost this round I would have been disappointed. After all he wasn’t at his best in these fics.
November 6, 2011 at 12:44 pm
This is fantastic, the last round was hilarious.
November 6, 2011 at 1:04 pm
I’m glad that Vincent Price won. How could he not? He was even able to tackle mildew stains in grout with the power of Tilex.
November 6, 2011 at 1:18 pm
November 6, 2011 at 1:28 pm
I wasn’t sure exactly what this series would have as its format, but it’s awesome!
November 6, 2011 at 1:56 pm
Karloff Vs. Lugosi is what everyone’s waiting for. Though Lugosi will have to face off against Christopher Lee in some way to settle the best Dracula battle.
November 6, 2011 at 2:04 pm
Lol i was expecting cosplay with the people wrestling or something XD
November 6, 2011 at 2:37 pm
Lugosi vs. Karloff is gonna have a lot of rounds.
November 6, 2011 at 2:52 pm
This was fun. Not what I expected, but that’s okay because my expectations were exceeded. I’m kinda glad it wasn’t like an animated thing, or some goofy photoshopping.
November 6, 2011 at 3:46 pm
Good one James, thank you for doing this for us!
November 6, 2011 at 4:19 pm
That was great! Can’t wait to see the next fights! =)
November 6, 2011 at 4:21 pm
I’m betting on Christopher Lee to take the title. Not only does he hold the Guinness world record for the most credited actor ever, but out of all of the contenders he’s the only one still alive!!! For how many generations now is he a movie icon? I’ve lost count, and still he’s landing major roles. He did’t feel like going to New Zealand to play Saruman in the upcoming Hobbit movie, so they brought New Zeland to him. The man’s a total pimp, he was in the secret service during WW2, got his hand allmost choped off by Errol Flynn, and recently he’s been recording heavy metal albums, so yeah, my money’s on Lee, as he has the most endurance and stamina out of the whole bunch
November 6, 2011 at 4:33 pm
another great series james! can’t wait for more, i love checking back here daily
November 6, 2011 at 10:40 pm
I loved this 😀 Keep it up!!
November 6, 2011 at 11:41 pm
The comedy of terrors looks really interesting, I gotta check that one out.
November 7, 2011 at 1:03 am
What a graveyard smash! Only a classic horror wiz like you could pull this off!
November 7, 2011 at 1:58 am
@GeneralHotness: That is NOT Elvira. That is the original mistress of the dark, Maila Syrjäniemi, better known as Vampira. Everything that Elvira has done is practically a blatant copy of Vampira’s work. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0885533/
November 7, 2011 at 2:18 am
November 7, 2011 at 2:54 am
I’ve been a Vincent Price fan since I was a little girl.
November 7, 2011 at 5:02 am
@Hajeil Sounak: Actually I just rewatched the video. Vampira is the round 1 girl. I was talking about the round 3 girl which is Elvira.
November 7, 2011 at 10:20 am
I am looking forward to every round of the Titans of Terror Tournament.
November 7, 2011 at 12:13 pm
I like that vampira shws up here, even if just in pictures. Also, i’m glad Vincent Price won; Basil could never take on the TINGLER!
November 7, 2011 at 7:31 pm
James man! Come on! You know that Rathbone wins Comedy of Terrors. The Price character is killed by Karloff (“a taste of his own medicine”) and Mr. Black (Rathbone)–seemingly dead–sneezes at the cat or whatever (it’s been a while since I’ve seen it). Clearly the ending is intended to show that Rathbone is still alive.
Vincent Price deserves to win the overall competition because he’s way more badass than Rathbone, but you cheated his victory my friend. What say you?!!?
November 7, 2011 at 10:51 pm
Vincent Price for the win!
I am kind of biased. I am related to the man, after all.
November 13, 2011 at 7:16 pm
I finally remembered where you got that opening with all the cartoon people! It was in the 1948 Loony Tunes episode, Rabbit Punch! 😀
November 14, 2011 at 3:55 pm
I wonder what would have happened if Basil had voiced, well… Basil of Baker Street in the Disney movie. Would the outcome have been different?
November 17, 2011 at 4:40 pm
This is great! Not only does it educate us on many old horror films a lot of us might not have seen, but we get to see who killed more who more, in what ways, and it is pretty funny too! 🙂
November 20, 2011 at 8:16 am
The second round is based on a Edgar Allan Poe short story, but I can´t remember the name…
February 6, 2012 at 3:11 am
Price all the way baby
February 6, 2012 at 11:04 am
I have seen whole series already but wow the research to make the tornment run smoothly
February 14, 2012 at 5:32 pm
Price was on Alice Cooper’s Welcome To My Nightmare… He wins automatically
August 27, 2012 at 4:07 pm
Don’t think I ever heard of Basil Rathbone before, out of all these guys.
Glad to see good old Vincent take this one.
December 12, 2013 at 9:13 pm
Loved these videos when they came out a few years ago. Was hoping to see more this year after Monster Madness. Oh well, I’ll watch these ones again.
