Titans of Terror Tournament

Mike / October 31st, 2011

These videos will be simple looks at the movies and which actors killed each other on-screen the most often, done in a tournament style, with day by day elimination. It’s nothing too special, just something I whipped up quick as a little extension to Monster Madness.
Stay tuned for new AVGN video soon, although it’s not really AVGN, as I step out of character to talk about my real memories with a certain game.

Lol, I thought it was going to be a documentary about the legendary actors going into their lives and roles. Maybe detailing the similarities and contrasts with their on screen characters. Some history on the actors, their backgrounds, their greatest roles, their finest performances and their slow descent into cheesy schlock. Something like the BBC’s A History Of Horror from last year but no, this is Cinemassacre… It’s a face-off, it’s a battle, it’s all out war!

    Never, as ever, predictable.

  • MireMare

    October 31, 2011 at 4:17 am

Also noticed the American flag in the background there, this is a world war not a civil war damnit.

Lugosi and Lorre were born in Hungary. Rathbone, South African to English parents. Cushing, Lee and Karloff also Englishmen. Although Karloff had some Indian in there, that’s why he had that great jawline and permanent tan. Lucky chap.

Still, Chaney and Price were American of course, although with Price you’d never know it from his voice.

America vs Hungary vs England! Place your bets.

By that time I would probably be feeling the withdrawal syndrome from the Monster Madness videos πŸ˜› So this is perfect, looking forward to it.

    Bela Lugosi
    Christopher Lee

That springboard video won’t load at all for me, and I’ve tried bringing it up on both Firefox and Internet Explorer. I don’t know if it’s just an issue with my computer or if other people are having trouble, but I have to say that it’s annoying to be left out of the loop because of some stupid software issue.

Holy shit! It like a Monster Madness bonus and I thought It was all over by now πŸ˜€ and I agree with Filmmassacre,
    Bela Lugosi
    Christopher Lee
    Boris Karloff or
    Vincent Prie
(+ Peter Cushing for me) should win!

Wow I can’t wait, this will be so much fun!
But James, why do you start on November 6, I’m guessing you want a little break after Monster Madness, but is it anything special about the 6th?

  • October 31, 2011 at 10:36 am

@kane117 I’ve heard that a couple of people have problems with the Springboard videos, but under all the videos there is a link that says “Watch this video on Blip”, so you can watch it there!

Hm.. Cristopher Lee or Peter Cushing should win, i think.
Also, 0:47-0:50, what movie are this clips from? Can’t recognise it, but looks pretty badass.

Its great that you have a clip from Madhouse in there, Peter Cushing and Vincent Price both in a horror film about the horror genre and it’s stars? Pure awesome sauce!

  • Desperado

    October 31, 2011 at 4:02 pm

    Yeiii!!! awesome!!!
You talk about classic horror movies tournament, it could be fun if you and your friends make a tournament about classic horror monsters vs now-a-days monsters!

You have Dracula vs Frankenstein or Freddy vs Jason or Godzilla vs King Kong, really good, epic and done, but imagine, put Freddy Krueger against Dracula, or Jason Voorhees vs Frankenstein or Van Helsing helping Dr. Loomis vs Michael Myers, you have a lot of options! Think about it

Live from Mexico, this is El Mariachi from Desperado!

  • October 31, 2011 at 5:16 pm

For overall badassery, I’d say it’s Peter Cushing. His Van Helsing is my favorite version of that character.

    October 31, 2011 at 9:58 pm

I’m glad vincent price is listed. He is in some of my all time favorite movies(who ever reviews The Monster Club, Theater of Blood, or Cry of the Banshee), but is alot of times not mentioned with the others since he did comedy as well as horror. He is usually neglected because of this. It’s hard to compare batman’s egghead to the likes of lee, cushing, legosi, and the others.

  • October 31, 2011 at 11:05 pm

I’ve always had a soft spot for Vincent Price…

  • November 1, 2011 at 12:44 am

Peter Cushing always seems to take his roles super seriously. (Of course he takes it seriously, he’s a professional!) But I mean that when I watch him, especially as Van Helsing, I believe that HE believes every word he’s saying.

And Vincent Price, holy shit, I always get this feeling that he ENJOYS being the prince of horror. And that he has a little bit of a nutty side to him. Not crazy as in “I’ll cut you into little pieces and make a coin purse from your scrotum” and not crazy as in “Napoleon chasing invisible fairies with a butterfly net”. Like, somewhere in the middle, a little eccentric, a little sinister, wrapped in a dark macabre shell.

I can’t wait to see this vid next week!

  • Mariusz69

    November 4, 2011 at 1:23 am

Chris Lee is the only one of these Geezers still alive so he wins by automatic disqualification of the other contestants; that’s it, game over man. And if Christopher Lee should die in the next 2 weeks or so, I’m blaming James.

I am a huge star wars fan, so when i recognized the awesomeness that was Peter Cushings in Hammers Dracula films, it solidified Cushing as one of my personal favorites among the acting community of that time. So with that said, its safe to bet that I am willing to put my money on Cushing. He might not win though, there is some stiff competition here…..but still, I am keeping my fingers crossed…..

  • BenjaminOstermeier

    November 17, 2011 at 3:28 pm

I love this idea! It’s a great way to extend Monster Madness, and the idea of seeing who killed each other the most (onscreen and in character, of course) is as wonderful as it is simple!

By the way, thanks for going back to this new comment system. The original comment system was blocking me for some reason.

My Dad said that Christopher Lee made a great Count Dracula and Peter Cushing made a great vampire killer and a good starwars charater.
