what the hell happened?!? even though, i did see this one in the theatre. I will say that it was well directed by Rick Rosenthal (Halloween 2) it was dark, and a good tone. But, as for the story, and characters…….WOW! pretty bad

  • ThePhantom

    October 30, 2011 at 3:08 am

Yeah I absolutely hate this one. I’d even go as far as to say I’d give it zero stars out of four. The entire thing is a gimmick and Michael Myers is given no dignity as a character.

there is also a pattern here in the sereis, Halloween 4: 1988 rekindled the franchise ( i still loved Halloween3 ) then the 5, and 6 injured the series. H20 :1998 brought it back to life, and this film destroyed it!

  • October 30, 2011 at 3:10 am

Never seen it probably not going to see it…
Sooo I guess for the last day you are going to do both the remakes by Rob Zombie?

  • Oliver

    October 30, 2011 at 3:18 am

I still think that they splitted it up in different stories as i commented in the last video.

I think it´s the Rob Zombie remake now.

Why did they make another one?? The series could have ended perfect in H2O
James, Can´t you do another month??

how about extending monster madness in to november this year to do friday the 13th reviews?!?!?? please!

  • Itchan

    October 30, 2011 at 3:36 am

I actually saw this in theaters… Why? Well, we (my father, brother and me), went to see a movie and this was the only available at the time we went, so we saw it. I was 14 and had no seen ANY of the Halloween series; had never heard of them either. I didn’t care for the movie. I remember someone half way into the movie left the room and never came back XD. Well anyway, awesome review. 🙂 LOVE Monster Madness, too bad the next one its the last one 🙁

    October 30, 2011 at 3:37 am

This halloween movie has the WORST characters of the series. Not just Busta, but ALL the characters suck. Everybody! That’s my main problem with this movie: I hate every, single character.

Next up, de RZ remakes. Liked the first, but truly hate the second one, because that one doesn’t make ANY sense.

  • Vunjak

    October 30, 2011 at 3:38 am

I think you guys need to cool it with the “extending monster madness”. I love it just as much as you guys but you have to remember that he makes this stuff ahead of time, like way ahead of time. As busy as he is nowadays it would be almost impossible for him to make videos of this quality for another 30 days unless he dropped absolutely everything else he is doing, which just isn’t going to happen… Unless he made them already and is going to surprise us!

I’m not trying to rain on your parade guys, I love the spirit you all have about the videos, but it’s not fair to keep pleading James for more. Just sit tight and let him save some reviews for next Halloween!

  • October 30, 2011 at 3:39 am

You know, as I watch this movie, it seems even Michael is thinking, “What the fuck are these people doing? I’m a mass murdering psychopath, and I think I might be the most reasonable person in the building.”

  • DarkSouske

    October 30, 2011 at 3:41 am

In my opinion this movie never happened. H20 is the death of Michael. Jamie Lee Curtis cuts Michael’s head off and that’s the end. Resurrection can go suck on Michael’s kitchen knife…

In all fairness I think this is the worst review James has ever done, certainly the worst this month. To be honest it’s almost like he did the review completely from memory and hadn’t seen it since it came out on DVD in 2002.

First of all the questions he raises about why are people getting naked and why do the cops never show up is not only answered in the movie by more then one character but also by basic psychology and internet knowledge. The answer – because everyone, including the people on the “show”, thinks it’s fake and just wants the publicity plus they’re horny college students. It’s worth pointing out that if the real Michael hadn’t shown up they would have been right since the producers actually had planted fake stuff all over the house and even planned a fake Michael. Not to mention the fact no one starts getting naked til after the people on the “show” realized they were being punked, Busta’s character even confronts them about how they know it’s fake at one point. Also no cop is gonna take a call from someone about an internet show seriously let alone on Halloween.

This actually is a much better movie then H20, despite the cheese mixed in. The characters motivations are more realistic, the cinematography actually is a lot better and you get more of that classic Michael suspense instead of some cheap shock attempts. In fact when you think about the series up to this point Michael probably shows the most intelligence and cunning in this film.

All that said I do agree the interactive DVD idea would have been cool but they either would have had to ruin the quality to fit it all on the disc or have you switch discs at least once during the movie. The other problem is it’s not possible, technical limitations of DVD’s design. I also agree that there are some genuine laughs to be had in this movie.

I’m guessing that next is Zombies remakes 1 and 2. Really liked 1 but part 2 was a mess.

    October 30, 2011 at 4:18 am

Extend Monster Madness into November!? That’s like Christmas extending into January. As James would say, “That’s bullshit!”. Monster Madness is a Halloween/October tradition, extending it just isn’t right.

    October 30, 2011 at 4:51 am

To me it seems kind of rediculous to kill a character like Laurie Strode off quickly. She has proven she has great charisma so to do her in that quickly almost feels like an insult to the character.
I saw Halloween on monday and Jamie Lee Curtis does a great job as Laurie i can’t wait to see her kick Michael’s ass in H2O later today. I agree about the seeing the skin around the eyes. Micheal looks so fake here and yes decapitaion i think was the best way to finish Micheal off instead of just burning him to death AGAIN!!! oh wait he is still alive. I guess the closure they were going for is that he killed Laurie so his mission is fullfilled what he does next who knows that’s up to the fans.
Great review as always sad that Monster Madness is almost done

I am one of the few people who likes this film. It belongs on my list of “Movies almost everyone else hates, but I love”.

I honestly thought it was fun and entertaining as hell. It was the first “Halloween” movie I saw in the theater (if you count the remake, and it’s sequel.)

All and all, I think it’s a great film, and I’d prefer watching it over some of the other sequels. Just my two cents. 🙂 Great review James!

so, if THIS is the final movie of the series… what’s coming tomorrow?

  • Michael_Syrigos

    October 30, 2011 at 7:15 am

I’m totally with James on this one. I didn’t ignore it like he did, but I don’t care for it too much. I feel that there are many other instances in the whole franchise that kinda mock the Michael Myers character.

What’s a shame is that the reason we actually watch sequels, is in the hopes to feel a little more of the initial eeriness and creepyness of the original, yet it seems like the creators don’t realize that. Regardless, the Halloween series has it’s place, and although I’d prefer an anthology series (as I’ve said twice this week), it’s at least good that we have a few parts were it works.

I’m suprised James didn’t mention the Rob Zombie remakes in this one, just to use a last video for a recap. My opinion of those is that I like the way Rob handled the first one, going for a different type of motivation for the Myers character, making him less mysterious, but the second one…well, I hope James does a video tomorrow and mentions it, then I’ll give my 2 cents on it.

Good job James! Thanks for this one!

  • jasondixon360

    October 30, 2011 at 7:22 am

This is the worse Halloween movie ever, all Halloweens after the third one start sucking and keeps getting worse until Resurrection, yes Resurrection is a piece of shit, i think its one of the worse movies i saw in my life, its worse than the Blair Witch Project, they should have stopped with Michael Myers in Halloween II, Halloween III is the last good one. I also like Rob Zombies Halloween, just the first one (normally i’m against remakes, but this one pulled it off really well with original ideas). The best four Halloween’s all together are the first three and the remake of the first one.

  • October 30, 2011 at 7:44 am

This movie sucks. As far as technique goes, this movie does well. It certainly has a high production value. But then so does a solid gold turd. So that ain’t saying much.

I hate how Laurie dies in the first 15 minutes of film. It’s like “Yes we know Laurie has spent over 20 years evading Michael Myers, even going as far as faking her own death; and the way she finally did the right thing and overcame her fear and took up the mantle of stopping Myers because it was her DUTY to do so (being his sister). The cathartic brawl that took place with good finally triumphing over evil, and Laurie taking it a step further to make sure Myers NEVER comes back again, was all truly epic and it seemed right to balance the cosmic good/evil scale back to neutral…at the time, so we thought. But then we got other ideas. Ideas on how to milk every last penny from our audience!”

And the ending sucks too. Why write a clever ending anymore when you can have a film like Halloween Resurrection swallow a few whole retcons to the point of visible abdominal distension and visible stretch marks.

I saw this piece of shit in the theater opening weekend…let me tell you, it was the worst moviegoing experience I ever had…because Busta and Tyra Banks were in it, the entire ghetto populace of my town just had to go, and it was just as stereotypes portray: I saw and heard foil being unwrapped around chicken, people on cell phones the whole movie, popcorn being thrown at the screen, and multiple “Busta Rhymes is my NIGGA!” outbursts…I hated every second of it…

  • Cilliandrew

    October 30, 2011 at 8:38 am

This stands as the only Halloween film from the original series that i actually saw in the theatre.

Man, what a way to go. It really was pretty bad.

I did see both Zombie films in the theatre, though, and those are a significant step up. Can’t wait for those reviews tomorrow, and the debates to begin….

This is what I call a ritalin movie. It is fast pased, flashy, and involves almost no brain cells. Since I despise movies like this, except for transporter movies(guilty pleasure)I despise this movie. It’s just a flavor of the month movie. And like any flavor outing, it was made for money and only money. The way it was shot, stars, and subject matter. It was what is hot at the moment, that will be irrelevant within a month. This movie should only be 4 minutes long like your review. It’s craptastic.

As for a series of movies I would like reviewed. Wrong Turn. I love those movies. There just so campy there good. There a series of movies you leave your brain at the door. Three fingers is a great villian. And he’s a HILLBILLY, not a redneck. I have part 4that just came out. Hope it’s a great ride down a country road.

Also killer tomato movies. Just for giggles…

This movie was SOOOO so bad. I didn’t really care for H20 because, to be honest, it was just boring. It wasn’t scary at all. I didn’t feel anything for it and the ending was overdone. But THIS movie, holy crap, it was bad. Everything is set in this stupid house. I would’ve preferred more places for the characters to walk around in. And then Busta Rhymes… why did he survive in this movie? Why did her perform karate on Michael Myers? Why was there ANY karate at all!?

Michael Myers wasn’t the villain in Resurrection. Busta Rhymes was.

Hell…I hate it every time when they feel the need to install a smack talking asshole, usually played by the latest rapper or Hip Hop artist. If they made a new Halloween, it would probably have 50 cent in it. Call it Halloween: Up In Da Club

Remember Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan when some regular guy fights Jason. Now replace Jason with Michael and that guy with Busta Rhymes and that’s for an entertain flick. But the rest of the film would still suck.

  • FeversandMirrors

    October 31, 2011 at 12:12 am

Wait a minute, The last broadcast wasn’t the first “found footage” type movie, it was cannibal holocaust. Good video though James.

    October 31, 2011 at 9:04 am

Maybe because I was never got into Busta Rhymes (however you spell it), but he was very annoying to me (just my opinion). I saw it as a way of just giving him more screen time; they did this by making Michael look like a fool. I like Michael a LOT more than Busta Rhymes, so this REALLY annoyed me. Overall, I think it was just another slasher movie, so I accept the movie for what it is, and I enjoy Michael’s on-screen presence.

Ok, another connection I wanted to point out between Psycho and Halloween…albeit a very loose connection, but one I must point out.

Busta Rhymes once did a song called “Give Me Some Mo'”, and in this song, he actually uses a sample of Bernard Herrmann’s Psycho score. It’s the Prelude.

  • Raf Solo

    November 1, 2011 at 2:56 am

Jason did it, Leprechaun did it, hell even Critters did it so I still have hope that Michael Myers can do it too. I’m of course talking about Halloween in Space. The series was tainted enough from Resurrection to pull it off.

I don’t think they would have had the balls to do this (especially since they got burned for trying something new w/ part III) but I thought this movie could’ve been decent if it was revealed to be a copycat playing Myers (a la Friday part V). I guess the diehard fans would’ve hated it, but a) it would have tied into the overall theme of people doing anything to be famous in the internet/reality TV age, and b) it would have spared them that ridiculous explanation of how Myers is still alive. It would have helped them wring one more movie out of the series, while still keeping H2O as the real (and rightful) conclusion.

even though I enjoyed this one I don’t care for it even the ending was bad, we’ve seen Micheal die from fire before and comeback so it’s a surprise a second time and the series really didn’t need this. For me the “true” Halloween series is 1,2 and h20 but that’s just me.

Busta is so wrong on so many levels for a Halloween movie ! In other action flicks , i can even enjoy some of his “acting” . But his personality is wrong for a horror flick if it’s supposed to be frightening . And Jaimy lee was there only for the cash , so nothing good could have come from this even if they wanted it too .

I refuse to watch the film and end it with h2/0 as the last one .

this movie was made by that one asshole who always sits in the movie theatre and goes “man, i could kick that Michael Myers ass, he’s got nothin’ on me, if he brings that shit all up in here, he’s gonna get his ass kicked”… fuckin hate those people, fuckin hate this movie. This is like if Justin Bieber assfucked John KcClane or if Shia LaBoeuf turned out to be Indiana Jones’ son…oh wait…

I personally dont like this film. I think Halloween 5 , 6 , & Resurrection are among the worst of the franchise with 4 stuck in the middle. 4 to me is rather hard to say it’s bad or good since it does have it’s good moments and it’s bad moments. as a fan myself , I tend to ignore Resurrection as cannon. the connection between Halloween II & Halloween H20 is obvious and official , and I like that it can be connected with the previous films and I tend to see Halloween , Halloween II , and Halloween H20 as a solid trilogy if you think about it long enough. and as stated from wikipedia , Halloween H20 is considered as the official ending of the series (ignoring the Halloween: Resurrection events which is considered as an alternate story) by many fans, and ignoring the other sequels after the first and second film (these 3 films concentrate importantly on Laurie Strode, the heroine of the series).

You can call this the Laurie Trilogy since it makes sense. Jamie is the Thorn Trilogy , and Resurrection , as stated above , is regarded by fans as an alternate story and not in the same cannon. I agree since the last we saw Michael Myers , he was smashed through a van window , pinned to a tree by the van , and had his head cut off. I dont think a (cough) “normal” human being would survive being smashed through a window and pinned to a tree trunk from the weight of that van. the explination at the beginning of Resurrection doesnt make sense and a rather lazy way to make a sequel. so , you can say it’s a “what if” kind of story and doesnt connect with the previous film in terms of cannon.

in my opinion , Halloween , Halloween II , & Halloween H20 is the Laurie Trilogy , Halloween 4 / 5/ & 6 is the Thorn Trilogy , and both Halloween III and Halloween Resurrection are stand alone titles and not within the same consistancy and not considered cannon. anyone else agree?

the other problem that this film has is that this was during a time period when horror films were starting to get a little more urban. Freddy Vs Jason was yet another example with the Kia Waterson character. however , where Freddy Vs Jason was awesome and made up for it’s dumb characters with the fights between these 2 titans of terror , Halloween Resurrection was dumb and stupid with a one liner Busta Rhymes. easily one of the worst horror characters in existance along with Evil Ed from Fright Night , Franklin from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre , Kia Waterson from Freddy Vs Jason , & Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Next Generation.

I wanted to finish the last 2 movies I hadn’t seen (this and H20) tonight, and I had to stop watching this one after 37 minutes. I was willing to sit through the plot itself, but most of the “POV camera” shots are stretched. I fucking despise that, and it ruined any enjoyment I might have had watching the movie. I’d give it 0 stars just for that. There’s no good reason to butcher the footage like that EVER.

This is definitely the “Freddy’s Dead” of this series.
Unexplainably bad all around but the ending is almost unimaginably lazy.

Rap singers like to portray themselves as awesome. This movie was terrible.

  • April 30, 2015 at 8:20 am

As a side, and you probably already know this, but there had been reality horror before Last Broadcast, the whole Cannibal Holocaust and that last section from Snuff were largely built around the idea of found footage. Both pretty historically major movies, though the rest of Snuff sucks balls and Cannibal Holocaust is pretty low, low budget (but still gorily endearing). Love the work man…
