    May 30, 2011 at 8:42 pm

Nice quick review. Pretty interesting that in terms of releases, this one hasn’t had on on DVD yet. At first, I assumed it would be in one of the 1970’s Peanuts releases, but I’m guessing they didn’t include it since it’s a feature film like A Boy Named Charlie Brown and Snoopy Come Home.

I smell another Chronologically Confused Video!

I was actually just looking for this movie last month to show my friend who was sick with strep throat at the time, she loves kids movies. Broke my heart when I found it it never had a DVD relaease

The same seems to be true for you. Autistic.

“omfg u would never say that to someones face, especially someone who knows an autistic kid.”
I’m not using the word autistic like an insult, I just call it like I see it. You have autism.

Yeah perhaps so…or just the people that are being optimistic about it and feel it gets better as it progresses through. Is everything watchable in the beginning? South Park, King of the Hill, SNL, even the first AVGN videos. Why do you think he revisited them in the first place? Not everything is gold when it starts. But this isn’t me speaking. This is someone offended that you don’t like it. I say just say you don’t like it, that’s it. Ironic enough, people are over analyzing the show.

Anyway I’d love to see this movie, might have to break out the VCR and get it (:

Go ahead. You can’t do anything to me, we are both sitting behind a computer. I probably don’t even live in the same country as you, there is nothing you can do to me. You have autism, and I do not. I am superior human being. Now please stop commenting so the more capable users can have a productive discussion, thanks.

Dude, Beller…cyber bullying is becoming a real problem and you need to calm the fuck down. People like you going overboard and bullying others to such extremes because you feel like you can get away with it without social repercussion actually causes a lot of problems. You don’t know who the person on the other side is, they may have real actual problems, or may be sensitive to these things you are picking at. There are cases of people committing suicide because they were extensively targeted by someone who is bullying them online. I’m sure James and the rest of Cinemassacre have better things to do than answer subpoenas in a lawsuit or criminal investigation that you instigated. Please, just walk away. Not cool man…not cool…not funny either

I have a picture from when I was a kid of me hiding behind the CED case for this movie. I was sitting there watching it, and someone came up and tried to take a surprise picture of me, so not wanting to be photographed, I grabbed the nearest thing I could find (the empty CED caddy) and hid behind it. So now I always think of this movie when I think of CEDs.

Very cool review of a Peanuts cartoon I don’t remember too well. Man I used to love that stuff a kid. Funny, I saw Charles Schulz in person twice in my life but never actually got to speak to him…but he sure did a lot of great things for a lot of people.

James, if you haven’t already been to his museum in Northern California, you should check it out sometime. Definitely worth a visit. And there’s an ice skating rink. 😉

  • May 30, 2011 at 11:41 pm

Duke45 Did you not read the numerous posts on this site labeled “Where is AVGN?” For crying out loud man.

As for the crazy trolling going on in this comment thread, you need to get a life dude, no one really cares, or is affected by what you are saying. All you are doing is spamming up the thread. Please stop, and find something constructive to do with your time. I hope that things like this don’t make you feel good about yourself, or make you think that you are amusing. Because you aren’t. Plain and simple.

  • May 30, 2011 at 11:42 pm

As for the review, great job James! I actually haven’t seen this one for a long time. You always see the Christmas special, but you don’t see this one on as much. Or at least it’s not as well advertized. It’s a great peanuts movie that everyone should watch.

  • rsaotome

    May 30, 2011 at 11:44 pm

    Another excellent short review.

I remember watching this back in 80’s, quite a bit, and shamefully, I had all but forgotten this movie, but the second I saw the clips, everything I knew of this movie came racing back.

Shame it was never released on dvd, but hopefully with the releases of Charlie Brown flicks on blu-ray, there’s still a chance.

    May 31, 2011 at 2:28 am

This movie looks like the opposite of what you say. It looks like the moral is that the only justice is revenge, when things are difficult you should instantly give up and assign blame, all your problems will fix themselves, treating your friends like garbage is okay, and if you don’t want to get screwed you have to do the screwing.

  • angelspawn77

    May 31, 2011 at 3:37 am

Good review, but I didn’t like the line about how the animation of today is all 3D crap. I took a bit of an offence to this, mainly because I am a computer animator myself and it really takes talent and hard work to make those 3D animated movies, maybe even more-so than it takes to make 2D animation.

For example Pixar, they put so much heart and soul into their movies and they are so entertaining. I love 3D animation, but I also love good old 2D animation as well and as a person who loves both I will say however that I do wish more shows and movies went 2D. Other than that though I think if James were to see in person how much time and effort it takes to actually create and animate something in 3D he would appreciate it more.

I do however agree on his view on using 3D animation for EVERYTHING, for example things that back in the day would be made through animatronics or cool costumes are instead being done with cgi. I love some good animatronics and wish they would use that again, not sure if it has completely died out, but I can’t remember a single movie lately that has used it. Cgi is good for over the top things that cannot be done with animatronics, but if it can be done, do it. Many people enjoy it.

Anyways sorry for my rant, I was just a bit offput by that comment. Keep up the great work James, I always love checking out your videos.

  • Destro

    May 31, 2011 at 7:00 am

The animation today especially the american animation in cartoons is a shitload of fuck.Boring and looks 100% fake.James is right. It need work. The Japanese one is better but again not perfect.

  • May 31, 2011 at 9:47 am

Oh dear god I feel so Nostalgic from seeing this film review. Honestly, It should’nt be forgotten by anyone. It should’ve gotten more.

  • May 31, 2011 at 11:05 am

What you said is correct. How 3D animation is being used for EVERYTHING. Yes, I am aware of all the hard work and effort that goes into CG. I watch all the bonus features on every movie I own and have seen enough documentaries about it.

I shouldn’t have used the word “crap” because it gave off the wrong meaning. I was referring to the overuse of CG and 3D animation and not that it is all crap in general. I regret my choice of words.

  • gruven42

  • joliet_jane

    May 31, 2011 at 1:35 pm

I remember seeing this on cable once. How is is possible that adults would ever, ever allow kids to get into this much danger? Oh, right– that was the old days.

@James, Also, don’t be regretful about using the word “crap” flippantly. That’s the AVGN in you talking from deep within your soul.

But with great videos like this, I almost don’t give a care if I ever see AVGN again.

  • Steelebourne

    May 31, 2011 at 1:46 pm

I had forgotten that movie….I loved it so much as a kid. Seeing those parts of it again put a huge smile on my face! Thank you James for bringing back those memories 🙂

Now I gotta find all my Charlie Brown videos. Maybe I should have Donatello teleport himself into my VHS collection, turn into Leonardo, & change his weapons into flamethrowers, all while a skeleton dances in the background!!

“I love some good animatronics and wish they would use that again, not sure if it has completely died out, but I can’t remember a single movie lately that has used it”.

What! you mean, you haven’t seen “A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”? Granted it came out five years ago, but it’s there. It makes fairly extensive use of animatronics, and (absolutely) no CGI. (At least, none that I can see). It’s not the greatest movie, but it is fun while it lasts. Check it out if you haven’t seen it already.

The Simpsons episode that spoofs this movie is one of the greatest ever. (At least, I think it spoofs this movie. It definitely spoofs the Boy Scouts, but I can’t help but think the father-son raft race is a little nod to this.)

    You did alright James.

I just want to address something about AVGN’s use of words with the 3D animation. I understand it takes a lot of time, talent, and skill to develop awesome 3D animations but keep in mind that there are going to be some things said that Jame’s will say that can offend people. I mean people can get offended by the fact that Jame’s bashes on LJN and how their games suck. I mean I can get offended by the fact that he made a Jesus creature saying FUCKERRRR but do I? No, because if everyone got offended at every little thing in life then we wouldn’t be able to speak a word and it’s called entertainment. I don’t mean to come across rude or anything it just bothers me when people get offended over silly things like this. Again this isn’t meaning to come across as I’m bashing on you it’s meant to let people know “Don’t take life to serious”. The last thing Jame’s wants to do is insult his fans. I’m mean keep in mind Jame’s has been to film school and knows the material so he’s pretty much making fun of himself too.

    • mojosam1

      March 6, 2014 at 6:33 pm

i realy doubt if anyone will be offended for bashing LJN,it’s like a collective hate amongst gamers,i think 😉

I catch this film on TV every now and again and, at almost 40 years old, I still get teared up when Snoopy loses Woodstock and starts searching and howling for him. It’s one of my all time favorite movies as a child along with Bon Voyage Charlie Brown and just about every other Charlie Brown film. I learned a lot watching them in my youth and feel they’re one of the reasons I have so much compassion for the hard working, yet struggling type.

  • Vallinen

I saw this movie hundreds of times when it was on HBO in the early 80’s. Awesome flick. Best part is Linus using his security blanket like a bullwhip, Indiana Jones-style… years before Indiana Jones was filmed.

  • June 2, 2011 at 4:19 am

Thanks for this review, James. This is probably one of my favorite Peanuts movies. I saw it many times years ago, but it’s been a while. I’m not sure if it still comes on TV. I’m glad just to know the name of it. This way, I can at least no what to look for now!

Holy jeez, I have this movie on VHS and it was one of the movies I watched at least a billion times when I was growing up. I saw it again about 5 years ago and just laughed at how ridiculous the entire thing is. The fact that there are no camp counsellors to be found and that they almost die in the most horrible fashions imaginable is just part of the charm.

  • Demented Cow

    June 5, 2011 at 3:17 pm

I don’t care that James doesn’t like 3D animated movies, maybe its just not his taste, but what I don’t like is people who make as if 3D animation is some how “easier” to make then 2D animation because of computers. Someone who thinks this clearly does not know what he’s talking about or has any idea what it takes to make even the simplest 3D animated film. I could say “filming is crap cause it so easy, point a camera and shoot”, even though i know thats not the case

I miss the hand-drawn animations. I find they have more substance and personality to them than the 3D and computer animations. However, I think those are pretty amazing too. I guess it’s all just how you look at it.

Thanks for the little bit of nostalgia!

  • August 27, 2011 at 9:28 am

I love the Peanut’s animation. I have never seen this movie but it looks very interesting, I use to watch the Peanut’s TV show when I was 3 years old and I enjoyed watching it. After that was on I use to watch The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin then Agro’s Cartoon Connection which showed cartoons like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, James Bond Junior and The Bots Master. Anyway Great Review. James does the best reviews ever. Even when he is the Nerd.

I particulary loved the adventure parts of this movie.  It made the peanuts universe feel larger.

You should do a review of Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown. That is my favorite Peanuts movie.
