    Hell yeah! Love it!

  • May 24, 2011 at 1:19 am

My friends and I bought this game off of Ebay when we were really stoned. Then we got it in the mail and had absolutely no idea how to play it.

    • March 30, 2013 at 1:20 am

This is the best thing I’ve ever read lol

    May 24, 2011 at 1:29 am

i remember owning the last game when i was a kid. however, i don’t remember either of the other two. you’re right in saying the art was the best part about it. it was definitely more fun just playing your own game with the figures and vehicles.

    May 24, 2011 at 1:34 am

I’m actually taking a break from watching TMNT right now to watch this.

“Oh my god they screwed that u…”
“Just have to call ’em punks *cut off*”
“Say I wanna land on a f-pizza space”

    What’s with the sentence splicing?

  • May 24, 2011 at 1:54 am

I can’t get enough Ninja Turtles! What other Turtle Merch do you have lying around?

  • May 24, 2011 at 1:56 am

Great Board James! I love the unscripted stuff. I vaguely remember this game from when I was a kid! I want to play it!

Love that TMNT hoodie ! where can i get one like that ?

  • BigBoss

    May 24, 2011 at 2:17 am

Great episode, I thought it wouldn’t be a great episode without a script to really analyze your thoughts on the board games, but I you guys really did a great job without one, pat yourselves on the back for a job well done. And whats with the hoodie James, we want the traditional retro cap, or you thought its getting nerdy.

  • JeremiahStilts

    May 24, 2011 at 3:20 am

Does it say it was made by Rose Art up in the corner?

  • May 24, 2011 at 3:22 am

At the end, when James said “Cowabunga” I sooo wanted him to transition into his famous AVGN speech.

    May 24, 2011 at 3:29 am

Oh man, I had the pizza power game too. I don’t think we ever played it correctly. My brother would land on a pizza square, spin to get “Go Anywhere,” and then put himself on another pizza spin another “Go Anywhere,” and just continue the cycle to piss me off.

  • korahn

    May 24, 2011 at 3:30 am

  • May 24, 2011 at 3:44 am

I owned that Pizza Power game! Then we moved, and my dad said the movers “lost” our toys… but he sold them.

It was the end of my childhood.

I think James and Mike will find this funny,

I moved to Abu Dhabi (middle east) from Toronto and found this Risk board game with the Ninja Turtles, in Arabic

    May 24, 2011 at 6:01 am

    Your Turtle Sweat-shirt is awesome!

  • May 24, 2011 at 6:07 am

Never had those board games, but I had a sweet TMNT table hockey game where the turtles and friends hit a pizza puck around. It was pretty damn good for cheap entertainment.

  • marvelis

    May 24, 2011 at 6:10 am

My friend had one turtles game where the character cards had different stats for different skills like punch, kick, etc. When you fought a bad guy you had to choose your attack, and while like Shredder might have over all had better stats you could beat him by choosing the right type of attack.

nice video. But you missed one game I had it til I lost it its called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tower of Doom. It was better then the ones that were shown. if you can find it you should review it.

  • junkiegamer

    May 24, 2011 at 8:42 am

link here to see the tower of doom

  • beema

    May 24, 2011 at 8:49 am

    Nice hoodie James.

Dustbins? I guess that was a foreign version

The Pizza Power game seemed absurdly complicated, especially for little kids to play. I feel like that weird dice flipper thing is one of those cheap board game piles of crap that breaks after a couple uses and then you have to retrofit it with something. No way kids would use it like it’s supposed to be used either. They would totally just mash it like a catapult like you said.

I was always a Donatello fan. I was a nerd like him, the Bo is the awesomest fuckin bludgeoning pole, and purple was my favorite color at that age.

My brothers and I had the last one you showed, but we never played by the rules. The good old days!

  • May 24, 2011 at 10:46 am

Mother Fucker Mike was back to his antics, cheating in that 2nd game. Loved that! We need more crazy Mother Fucker Mike antics in future bored james. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Joker83

    May 24, 2011 at 10:55 am

holy crap, I HAD this game when I was little and have totally forgot about it until now! Thanks James!

  • rockingsanta

    May 24, 2011 at 11:10 am

The last game actually came in a version very much like it, but instead the fights where based on stats on cards you held. The different ninjaturtles had different stats.

I remember Shreader as being a badass, which weakness was random for each Shreadercard, while the other turtles had their own abilities.

All abilities did go from 0-100 and where parted in somewhat like:
    – Kick
    – Chop
    – Punch

Really nice game that we played a lot in Denmark. Cheers!

  • May 24, 2011 at 11:22 am

  • _JM

    May 24, 2011 at 11:30 am

I’m from Finland and I’ve never heard of Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles. It has always been TMNT here, so it’s not a “Europe” thing, it’s a country thing.

  • May 24, 2011 at 11:32 am

Now THAT’S funny! I can see someone doing a perpetual pizza spin.

  • May 24, 2011 at 11:35 am

i remember i had the teenage mutent hero turtles board game, the one that is memeory based. i was so proud about it, but when i see your rreview and i look at it as an adult, well yea, its a shity game. but it had the TMNT on the box so that was fine by me back then.

wow, i was such a stupid kid, thanks FSM for growing to be more wise.

Finally a new board James. Very good video james i love it

  • bleejean

    May 24, 2011 at 12:13 pm

You missed the Tower of Doom game. ๐Ÿ™ It is pretty shitty too. It is a weird combination of Kerplunk and Plinko where you have to catch the turtles in little scoops!

  • May 24, 2011 at 12:14 pm

That’s Raphael on the cover not Michelangelo by the way since he has an R on his belt.

  • Cleveland Rock

Great review guys…although I think I’d rather eat a shit pickle then play any of those crappy board games!

I hope whoever designed them got fired and is now living in a sewer. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • bugashi

    May 24, 2011 at 1:02 pm

Man… I remember getting a piece of poster board and making my own TMNT board game. In it, you had to fight Shredder twice in order to win. Both fights were the same, but the idea was that Shredder beats you the first time, so you had to get more training in order to beat him. In order to do that, you had to go to Japan, because that was where ninjas were from. After that, you had to return to New York to beat Shredder, and to win the game. I had a couple of little plastic army-men-like ninjas that would set on the board on various spaces, and would cycle to another space when a 6 was rolled. If you landed on a space with one of them, you would generally lose a turn in order to fight the ninja that was on the space. There was also a space that world force you to return to Japan on the way back, because you left something behind, and had to return in order to get it back. Overall, it was just another race to the finish game that ended up getting thrown away when the cat peed on it.

  • Faroutdude

    May 24, 2011 at 1:15 pm

God damn now i want to play that awesome looking bean bag game.

  • May 24, 2011 at 1:17 pm

Great review James. I know it’s completely off what the video was but I actually remember having several board games as a kid that were based off of R.L. Stine books like A Day at Horrorland and Night in Terror Tower. You have any of those?

  • May 24, 2011 at 1:17 pm

I remember that when I was child in Italy there was a board games that was awesome (for me when I was child): it was in a sort of suitcase that you open and became a very long internal 3D map/board. There was figures like in TMHT with all the characters like Footclan’s soldiers and the mousetraps and balls like Fireball Island.

    Really great for the time.

    May 24, 2011 at 2:38 pm

Believe it or not I have another Turtles Board gaem not mentioned here.

Its Turtles Kerplunk, you have a sky scraper which you put miniture plastic swords into, this is placed on a molded plastic sewer system with 4 pipes, You put the turtles and the villains into the sky scraper at the top and take it in turns to pull out the swords, then when you hear one of the characters hit to sewer plastic the person who pulled the sword out then as to predict which pipe the character will come out of. If you get it right and its its a turtle you gain a piece of pizza, if you catch a villain however you lose a piece, and once one has come out if you havent caught them, you put the swords back in and start that piece at the top and go all over again.

    you know whats bullshit !!!!!!
    that Reebok ADD !!!!

  • Stylix

    May 24, 2011 at 2:54 pm

The pizza power game has so many opportunities to be a dick. Get your friend all excited about playing his board game, then land on a pizza. Spin to a go anywhere part and then leave and go home. I probably would have been on the receiving end of that joke as a kid though, as I was always the one with the closet full of stupid games no one ever wanted to play.

All this TMNT nostalgia reminds me of when they were all over the market and had a lot of different food/snack products. Its too bad you can’t fit those into a review, but thats a bit impossible. Sadly Im sure you could find sealed packages of the nasty turtle pies and pizza crackers from someone on Ebay, but of course getting botulism for the sake of a review by eating over-decade expired food wouldnt exactly be a desired result.

  • ctu

    May 24, 2011 at 2:54 pm

the pizza power game looks fun to me…if I had it and somebody to play it with that is ๐Ÿ˜›

  • handsome pete

    May 24, 2011 at 3:27 pm

TMNT board games doesn’t sound like a very good idea. For pretty much any young male focused action show with a big selection of enemies like TMNT, you need trading card games. I know there’s one already but I don’t know much about it, except it’s based on the 2003 Turtles and is nothing special, so I assume it doesn’t have pizza, sewers, April O’Neill, or the Technodrome.

  • May 24, 2011 at 3:29 pm

I’m so glad James has time to work on Board James and YKWBS again.

  • Adde95

    May 24, 2011 at 4:01 pm

I have no idea why, but I couldn’t stop laughing when you said that.

  • kevenz

    May 24, 2011 at 4:59 pm

Oh boy I’m 30 and I got the last board game when I was like 10 for christmas and …. my god this game is way too complex for kids seriously, I think we’ve spend like 2 hours trying to finish the game with no clue what we’re supposed to do exactly, you didn’t show it in your video but the instructions were very unclear….. especially for 10 years old kids.

I was playing with my cousins and after 2 hours we said like “fuck that game, we don’t get it” and I threw it in my wardrobe and never touched it again until I sold it for $10 when I made a flea market.

  • Moeror

    May 24, 2011 at 5:02 pm

Man i’m surprised I never played a ninja turtle board game. I loved board games and me and my brother thought ninja turtles was the shit.

  • Abba26

    May 24, 2011 at 5:15 pm

When I was a kid I had the TMNT miniature golf set. It was pretty damn fun actually. It would be neat to see a review of it if James could get his hands on it. I’m pretty sure all of the pieces in my set were either busted or lost within a month or else I’d donate it.

  • PFarns16

JAMES! Long time fan, first time commenter!
I couldn’t contain myself when a great injustice was done to my favorite turtle, Raphael.
At 0:22, you call him Michaelangelo! Tsk, tsk, James. Tsk, tsk.

  • GamesForGabe

    May 24, 2011 at 5:49 pm

I remember when I was younger I bought a tmnt board game. Later when I got home I realized it was packaged without instructions. A game like this had hundreds of pieces, and I never got to play it.

  • May 24, 2011 at 6:29 pm

I remember a Ninja Turtles game that was like Kerplunk, where you pulled out swords and turtle marbles fell down and you had to scoop them up when they came out the bottom of this NYC building.

  • _JRPGNerd_

    May 24, 2011 at 6:37 pm

    Last game cover =
Splinter is holding a stake saying “there’s a vampire! Get him turtles! Noone is gonna outlive me!”. “But Splinter, that’s Shredder!” Yeah that’s what i said, get him! And drive this stake through his heart! You get pizza!”

I had a TMNT version of Ker-Plunk that I thought was awesome. You could just play with the figures and forget about the game entirely, and it came with a load of swords instead of the sticks. Kick ass game.

    May 24, 2011 at 11:55 pm

Hey there is a Ninja Turtles board game I used to have, it was essentially Ker-Plunk, but the “marbles” were ball bearings with plastic turtle bodies around them. I don’t really remember the premise or anything, all I remember is it was fun to make them fall down.

    Sound familiar to anyone?

I’ve seen in several of your videos about TMNT that you say that in europe they were called teenage mutant hero turtles… that maybe in the rest of europe, but i’m from spain and here they were called… Ninja Turtles. That’s it. Who needs more?. And they didn’t even take the bother to change the song of the cartoon, they left the same song in english, of course, no kid knew english back in that time so, who is ever going to realize that we totally fucked-up the title? I guess they couldn’t predict the internet and english class for all the kids born from 1990 and up…

Something even more shocking about the translation is that when the movie came out they didn’t know how to translate cowabunga because there’s no word in spanish for that… so… they translated with something like ”YEAH MOTHERFUCKER!”, for real. Every time you people heard cowabunga, here in spain the kids hear ”YEAH, MOTHERFUCKER!” So, the famous ”damn!” scene seems now… well… a single damn it’s nothing compare to hundreds of ”YEAH MOTHERFUCKER!”

You may think that the parents could go crazy and censored the show or something, but here in spain it’s never like that, or at least it wasn’t, there was no parents associations or something like that, my parents and all my friends parents always knew that we were kids but we were not stupid, we know how to tell the diference between a movie/videogame and the real world. In that sense here in spain when blockbuster came out in the eighties, they also rented porn movies and they were next to the regular movies, only separated by a little door or a shelf behind the horror movie section, and in theaters no parents cares about the rating of the movie, i’ve seen many friday 13 and other horror movies with 6-7 years old in theaters and no problem.

And by the way the translation from teenage mutant ninja turtles to ninja turtles here in spain it have nothing to do with censorship, they always change the titles of every fucking movie here in spain just for the loose.
A classic example of this is the movie ”groundhog day” it was translated like ”trapped in time” or the movie ”some like it hot” in spain was ”wearing skirts and going crazy” of course in spanish, but you get the idea.

So sorry for the huge comment, good luck with your movie, greetings from spain, you have many fans here!

Jame`s i dont know from who you`ve gotten the false fact that tmnt was tmnh here in holland it just was tmnt as in the rest of the world.
since people here in holland said the same about the us that they where acting lame on the word ninja.. but i always thought it was just bull shit.
for that matter tmnt here in holland was only sub whit dutch

I never said Holland specifically. I said Europe in general. I’m not sure exactly which European countries had the “Hero” version, but it most definitely happened as the board game itself proves. Thanks for your info, we know now that it wasn’t Holland, so maybe someone else can identify which exact European countries it was.

Don’t know if this board game was available in the States, but this was the one I had when I was a kid:

I have fond memories of playing it with my great-grandpa back in the early 90s. He had no idea who the Turtles were, but that didn’t stop him from winning against me haha.

  • Teus

    May 25, 2011 at 1:15 pm

When TMNT first popped up on TV here in Sweden, they used “Hero” in the name and the board game I just linked to also used “Hero” in the name. For example the VHS tapes had “Ninja” in the name though, so we ended up getting both versions of the name here. Everyone I know just called them “Turtles” anyway.

  • Mr. Simon

    May 25, 2011 at 1:31 pm

Oh man, I had that game too but I never figuerd out how to play it. I wish I still had it. I’m from Sweden too and I remember that they used Hero most of the time.

According to Wikipedia it was called TMHT in the UK.

BTW, if we’re into saying how it’s called in our countries, in Israel it was called Tsabey HaNinja.

We had TMNT Table top hockey. The hocky puck was a pizza. One side you had the ninja turtles and Casey Jones was the goalie and the other side you had shedder, bebop, rock steady , and the foot clan. It was fun to play. I had yet to find one on ebay or anyother website and no one has a pictures of it.

    Hey James.

Long time reader, first time poster. I decided to sign up to your website, just to answer your question. While I can’t tell you what nations in Europe did NOT have the name Hero Turtles, I can tell you that Ireland, and the UK did. I know this, because a friend of mine once brought back a Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles comic book from Ireland. (He was visiting family). I thought that it was the lamest thing ever. What sort of weak-kneed, lily livered freak calls a TV show Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles? I was so disappointed that they couldn’t keep the title the same. But oh, well. Different strokes, for different folks, I guess.

The reason why in the UK it’s called Teenage Mutant HERO Turtles is beacause of the word ninja promotes violence ,so not many kid’s shows and products carry the words ninja, but then why the hell is there allowed ninjas on computer games, guess they think kids are too stupid to use a ZX Spectrum

  • May 28, 2011 at 10:26 am

i LOVE the artwork in the pizza power game. i think if i had that as a kid, i would modify the rules bigtime and make the krang fight easier and more exciting like saying a number and if my opponent lands on it, he gets to hit krang once with his turtle weapon. if not, krang gets the hit. 3 hits and krang goes down and the loser buys the winner pizza.

James since i found a place to reach you i thought i would say that in a sea of bad directors, excessive CGI, unimaginative plot and characters, diminishing love for old black and white classics and 80โ€ฒs action and horror you give me hope that there is someone out there that can bring the passion back to film. Your love for cinema can be seen in your ability to make extremely likable material, comprehensive reviews, amazing special effects, and awesome commentaries. Someday you will be one of the greats.

  • June 7, 2011 at 9:10 am

I asked the same thing, ben10guy. Why was there one brown turtle? Maybe it was something original about the TMNTs? Or maybe just a total fuckup on the board artists. But it was done several times so it was on purpose. Oh well.

I lol’d heartily when Mike talked about Michaelangelo finding himself under the manhole cover.

I loved this, but they left out one of the old turtles games. Unfortunately I can’t remember what it was called, but the turtles (and shredder) pieces all layed down on their bellies, and there was a marble in the middle of them that they rolled around on and the board was covered in ramps. It also sucked.

  • June 12, 2011 at 2:05 am

I really miss the older format of Board James, more scripted, and you could recognize the characters more, like grown kids (specially motherfucker mike).

The best episodes were definitly Crossfire and Weapons and Warriors.

I really find this casual improvised format kind of boring.

I think I even had the Pizza Power Game when I was a kid, but I was horrible at keeping my board games together so once the box got flattened and all the pieces started falling out and I think the cardboard Turtle pieces might have gotten wet somehow. Either way it all gotten thrown away but that was just one of many games I didn’t know how to play. I would never read the instructions and just played them the way I felt they should be played.

    Hey James,
I’m Jack Red a long time fan of yours anyway I do enjoy watching a lot of your videos related to Turtles Tuesday.

I can’t believe you found three board games worst than the original Nintendo game.

I got to say with the license of TMNT you would think they would put more effort into making some of these games.

I would try the Tic Tac Toe one well I could care less about the last two in the video.

One good thing I can say about them is they all are better than your Deadly Danger Dungeon game.

  • June 22, 2011 at 4:14 am

The board games may have sucked, but my brothers and I enjoyed the shit out of the TMNT Role-Playing Game. Seriously, check it out, you can be mutant pretty much anything. We were a back of various canines, some gun experts, a boxer, etc…

I played a better Turtles Board Game, under the sewers you find Pizza and Splinter for Power Up in Battle and April for slow you down and kind of Traps and enemies like the Footbot. Games end when you kill the Shredder or destroy all enemies who protect a secret Weapon called the Laserballs. And if you play only with one freind you can use two of 4 Turtles to double the chance to win, that`s pretty cool.

seeing the Raphael with a katana, made me remember this Turtles book I had as a kid. It kept referring to him as Raphaelo. Imagine the writer, being smart enough to question if the names he got were right, but dumb enough to not bother actually checking. Instead he probably just assumed it had a typo and all the names were supposed to end in -o.
