NEW TMNT MOVIE: James and Mike’s thoughts

Mike / April 12th, 2011

It’s Turtle Tuesday!
With James Rolfe and Mike Matei

I think it would be cool to make the next one like the comics. Maybe introduce Dimension X and Krang.

  • April 12, 2011 at 1:25 am

I’d like to see Donatello invent something cool to kill a transformed Baxter Stockman!

Awesome talk fellas. Thanks for sharing!

    April 12, 2011 at 1:27 am

Krang did NOT exist in the comics! He was a character for the 80s cartoon.

    • Lukas Sprehn

      March 30, 2014 at 8:12 am

But his alien race, the Utroms, did come from the comics. I know there’s a debate on whether Krang is an Utrom or not. In some series he is, in others he’s not, but I like the idea of him being an Utrom rather than just a disembodied brain. Also, wasn’t Krang later included in the comics because of his polularity? Maybe not the Mirage comics, but at least ones that were actually done by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird?

      • April 24, 2015 at 12:43 pm

I had TMNT adventures #23, with I think had Krang as the head of Shredder(?) I’m not entirely sure what happened, but at the very least he was in there.

When he finishes Batman, someone needs to get Chris Nolan interested in the Ninja Turtles, he’s the only person in the industry that could do a dark gritty Turtles movie justice

  • You Can Just Walk Over It

    April 12, 2011 at 1:34 am

Completely agree with the Technodrome destroying everything with the live action option. Also found it disturbingly true about the April comment and the turtles having their ‘human’ side manifest in a severe love interest for her.

These random discussion videos with Mike and James have been really entertaining to watch. I know the animated turtles series is getting reviewed soon, but would love to see more of these on couch videos where it’s just people from Cinemassacre talking about upcoming things and its relation to their nostalgia growing up etc.

    Well actually turtles have dicks…

Even though I’m in my early twenties and grew up with the 80s/90s cartoon series, aside from the theme song and the first season, it’s pretty abominable. I’m not clouded by nostolgia, like a lot of people are. I’m a grassroots comic book fan and would prefer any films to steer clear of the original cartoons’ influence, as the previous franchise did. April being a reporter’s fine, and the colored gear, but otherwise, stick to the comics.

The original film was pretty much pitch-perfect. Excellent performances from everybody, great effects and fighting that’s aged fairly well, and a real throughline seriousness. There’s not much in the first film that isn’t totally serious and the film was just excellent because of that. Easily still one of the best comic book film adaptations, flat-out.

Now, if more of the cartoon series elements were introduced, would I throw a fit? Nah. It’s just a movie. I would definitely like to see the more outlandish things from the comics done (Triceradons, Utroms [Krang, basically], space travel), but not in the vein of the cartoon series. If it could be done as seriously, great. But no Krang body, no Turtle vehicles, and no Technodrome. As much as I love the thing, the idea of this giant mobile weapons base (that’s a giant golf ball, really) that can be taken down by four turtles with Ninja weapons? Can it fit in the world of TMNT? Sure, I guess. But the idea that that thing would fail to immedately defeat the Turtles? Rediculous. More rediculous than a serious adaptation could be self-congruent with.

Honestly, they need to look to the first film. I can’t stress that enough. Mimic what worked and the new film will work.

  • April 12, 2011 at 1:55 am

Toitles do in fact have penises. They have like 5 minute orgasms too. Midway April could like go & get coffee then come back & just slide it back in there.

Also, because you asked for it:

Damn, you guys are setting up some huge expectations for the movie. Be prepared to be letdown though D:

  • April 12, 2011 at 2:36 am

Did you see the newest animated Turtles movie? (with the 80’s 00’s and the commic book turtles all in one movie?)

  • dewdunk

    April 12, 2011 at 2:57 am

You guys seem like big fans of the eighties cartoon, and rightly so. Please do yourself a favor and watch the newest animated film. (Turtles Forever) Trust me man. it may seem gimmicky at first, but its a real blast. easily my favorite turtles movie in years.

If you have even the slightest love for the old cartoon you can’t let it go unwatched.

  • PopcornFanatic

    April 12, 2011 at 2:57 am

I kinda hope for a more gritty version of the Turtles, kinda like the image that Taylor Hoyt posted. Thats what I imagine for a more realistic Turtle than a cartoon look.
I think this should be a trilogy, so the first one with Shredder, Krang etc.
Then Eventually have some of the other bad guys we NEVER seen before like RatKing (my personal choice), Leatherhead & Baxtor Stockman.

  • Emblen

    April 12, 2011 at 3:16 am

I registered to mention the film “Dewdunk” said.

It’s animated and includes all versions of the turtles, from the gritty to the 80’s light hearted turtles to the current.

    Definitely worth a watch.

  • viliger

    April 12, 2011 at 3:32 am

I hope you going to do next โ€œTurtle Tuesdayโ€ about “Turtles Forever”. I think this catroon is kinda dumb, because old-school turtles shown like total idiots compared to new-school. I want to see your opinion about it, that would be awesome.

  • April 12, 2011 at 4:14 am

an idea to bring Krang in to the new movie would be the fact that he was originally suppose to be an utrom. you can still have him the way he was (except for a much better android suit like they did in the 2002 series) and let the ship that brings him to earth become the technodrome. with bebop and Rocksteady, let them mutate from the animals themselves, their is no need for human contact like they did in the cartoon. have krang abduct the two animals, have them injected with mutagen-based brain worms (or something like that) have them fight the turtles and give them the message of impending doom from their master, and the doom would be the coming of the rock soldier army being created by Krang. finally the rock soldiers will be created from under the sea floor, and at the end, the technodrome will emerge from the water (after Bebop and Rocksteady are defeated). the rock soldiers will emerge from the ocean and the turtle have to fight them to get to the huge ship, their they would meet Krang. of course that could be the first hour of the film

james i love you and think your very creative, but your ideas for the recent TMNT and your thoughts for the future are way out of control and retarded…..

if you compared movies that went from cartoon to theatre. You can compare which ones made it and which didn’t and why.

The 1st tmnt movie made it cause they got away from the kiddie/cartoon
    Just like transformers…….

GI Joe almost made it, but it was toooooo futuristic high tech.

Which brings me to another point……………”KRANG TECHNO DROME” you know in all actuality, that would kill the movie….. not for just for the new fan base but for the original fan base as well.

What the best idea for the next TMNT movie would be to copy the 1st EPISODE ever aired….

where shreder appears, and hes GODLY (like the 1st movie) because face it
most villians that do good are “GODLY” cause they diease that individual art/skill to become the best not just with in the community, the area, the state, the continent, or the world but OVER ALL, a god, they’re CRAZY in other words….. they’ll do wahtever it takes to be #1 over everything and everything in every single way no matter what the cost….

and the turtles, can’t fight cause they’re the typical family , brothers….

the turtles aren’t raised like normal, they’re raised as ninja…….. no school kids, ninja, not sports kids, NINJA, not SOLDIERS , NINJA!!!!

if you go back and do hella research on ninja theres so much that covers the idea of a NINJA.

The way they eat, live, think, move, every minutes, everyday, every second its not normal……. and thats just 1% of how a ninja is….

the reason why the turtle get along is cause they’re trained soldiers/assassins/fighters/scientist/philosphier…(oops)

they’re trained to belivee anything is possible, that nothing can stop them, to avoid failure, and move forward, to accept all that comes their way and be patient and work around it……………………… no matter what, they can not give in, they can not show weakness…..

for you to say “oh they need to fights cause they’re around each other 24/7 ” yes this is natural human reaction, but when it comes to hard training, to be a certain way, theres questionable doubt in there.

But i do agree that in part 1, one of the things i found most interesting about the movie was, you could tell who was older, and younger between the 4….

I belive ralph was the older then leo, then don, then michael…..

of course it could be leo, ralph, don mich or leo ralph mich don but from how goofy mich acts, hes the youngest, and since don is semi goofy but likes to keep busy he may be growing and the fact that leo is serious and a leader, he seems the oldest, but ralph seems to lash out quick and talk back to all even splinter……. which shows hes the oldest, and acting out………..but even in the movie they had decipline and respect for one another, and splinter….and splinter was a big part of the movie showing unity….as a mother, father, master, great warrior…

i hope you see this, and mabye re do another idea of the next TMNT anywho im out, !

  • April 12, 2011 at 5:41 am

    darker eh?
How about calling it “The Green Knight” and then it’s all brutal, and cruel, and dark… green.

  • IcoIco9090

    April 12, 2011 at 5:48 am

You should make your own TMNT film.

  • Volbla

    April 12, 2011 at 6:33 am

It’s fun to spin ideas like this. I definitely agree with Mike that it sould be an animated movie but with a serious tone. That could be awesome. Most awesome would be a series of movies.

When it comes to the content it’s easy to get carried away and want too much at the same time. If it was a series things could be spread out in a neat way and there could be an interesting, overarcing storyline (though that’s probably too ambitious).

  • Chieftac

    April 12, 2011 at 6:33 am

You guys forgot the movie “Turtles Forever” from 2009? All the villians from the old tv series (even the Technodrome) where in that movie, together with the 2009 turtles!! And you want another movie with all that?

  • April 12, 2011 at 6:34 am

Im getting fucking tired of this reboot shit. Spidermans getting reboot, after a series that isnt even ten years old yet, and I read yesterday that after the Dark Knight Rises, Batman is getting ANOTHER reboot! What the fuck! If theyre gonna make a live action turtles movie, why dont we just ignore the rediculous ass second and third additions, and make a TRUE sequel.

  • 57stewie

    April 12, 2011 at 6:40 am

I agree with everything you said.

  • 57stewie

    April 12, 2011 at 6:43 am

But if there is one Turtle they are going to fuck up and almost kill it would probably be Raph because he is so wreckless. Thats why he got the shit kicked out of him in the first movie. He was to confident in his abilities.

  • alf2010

    April 12, 2011 at 6:46 am

live action krang would be pretty sweet. if michael bay makes it i wonder how many wacky jokes and armageddon/transformer jokes will be in it….sigh

    April 12, 2011 at 6:49 am

Thank God Motherfucker Mike is not involved in professional movie making. He’s got the most fucked up ideas.

  • krazyzark

    April 12, 2011 at 6:53 am

I’d love to see a GOOD live action turtles movie, but as the guys said, don’t just reboot. we don’t need another origin story rehash. I’d love to see it include the characters from the old cartoon but with a more comic book attitude and storyline. and though they didn’t like the idea, I’d love to see Casey Jones. It’s funny, I always pictured Bruce Campbell in the Casey role. The required characters though would have to include Bebop, Rocksteady and Krang.

  • SilverShadow333

    April 12, 2011 at 7:03 am

It doesn’t matter to me whether it’s animated or not. It MUST be badass. It MUST be darker and more gritty. It has to be directed to an older audience, and it definitely needs a revenge plot.

There needs to be Shredder of course, and they MUST put in Krang, Bebop, and Rocksteady. I loved all those characters in my childhood, and I would LOVE to see a ‘revamped’ badass version of them.

The Technodrome wreaking havoc would kick ass.
Added sexual tension between Leo/Raph and April would be nice, because like you guys said, I don’t need more of Casey Jones, although he was a cool character, it’s just time to move on from that.

That about says everything, other than the fact that I would love a “Dimension X” tie-in with the Rock Soldiers. Especially the two leaders, though I forget their names. Get the gray guy with the long nose in there with a machine gun! Heck yeah!

(And Raph yelling “FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!” would just be epic) xD

  • mitchbitch

    April 12, 2011 at 7:13 am

funny video. i really liked the 1st movie…especially the depressed scenes in that old house were a very good idea. the only thing i didn’t like was the underground/criminal kids storyline. it was too lame, however the idea of showing teenagers as shredders soldiers was good. in a reboot i would like to see a battle between shredder and the turtles again. i think that characters like crank were over the top…radioactive rats and turtles in a big city, ok…but a bodybuilding wild hog and a rhino? come on…its like nuking a fridge in an indiana jones movie….they should keep it as “realistic” as possible. i’m totally with your casting choices ๐Ÿ™‚

  • April 12, 2011 at 7:32 am

Love your guys opinion on how the movie should be. The last movie I seen Mike Star in was Black Dynamite. Check that out!!! Seems like he is always yelling at someone on the phone in all his movies.

  • April 12, 2011 at 7:32 am

Personally I enjoyed the original Graphic novels, but I loved the original TV series even more. Let’s face it, all turtles fans fell in love with the concept because of the show. They need to totally embrace that, and include all the main characters from that show. Baxter, Krang, Shredder, Bebop, and Rocksteady all need to be included for sure. The crew at the news station would be funny, but they aren’t totally necessary besides April.
I don’t care if it’s live action, or animated, but if it’s animated it needs to be traditional animation and not that CG crap.

You want to see a Dark Turtles Movie? Try watching the Episode “Same as it Never was” in the 2003 Tv Series, It not only has Splinter dying but all 3 Turtles Dying in Really brutal Way’s! With the exception of Don Barely surviving!

  • April 12, 2011 at 9:37 am

When Splinter was yelling NO in the six-minute mark, that’s pretty frightening!

  • April 12, 2011 at 9:42 am

Seeingas Ninja Turtles are now owned by Nickelodeon I doubt we will see a really dark Turtles movie. Plus while us older fans want to see one you also have to remember there still are younger fans too and they do not want to just ignore them. I would be happy with a Hard PG or PG-13 film for it. But they could do a decent mesh up of the comics and the cartoon. Like they can still have Bebop and Rocksteady be idiots. But they could be more ruthless. I wouldn’t mind seeing Krang either. But if you go by the real Shredder and the cartoon one. The real Shredder would never put up with Krangs shit and would probably kill Krang. I also doubt we will hear Raph say fuck. Maybe shit but not fuck.

I am one of the fans more of the comics then the 80’s cartoon. In fact I kind of have a love hate relationship with it. On one hand it did bring the TMNT into the spot light. But at the same time it destroyed what the Turtles really where about.

  • April 12, 2011 at 9:44 am

I also would like to add I wouldn’t mind it if the movie was like the new show. It was a good mix of the comics and the older cartoon. It was a darker series(well up to the stupid Turtles in the Future seasons) but still had quite a few lighter bits in it

  • ajgenard

    April 12, 2011 at 10:01 am

I don’t know why everyone is insisting this needs to be a serious, dark, morbid movie “like the comics”. It should be a mix of fun and serious much like the first film. If they don’t occasionally shout exclamatory quips or crack some light-hearted jokes then what is the point?

Turtles Forever pretty much poked fun at a moving-image version of the comics because the style simply doesn’t work like it does on paper. How serious can you take a walking talking turtle anyways?

But in the end, it’s Michael Bay so that means it will be a WAY too over-the-top serious really hokey film. I wonder how many CG explosions and gunfights he will manage to fit in.

  • April 12, 2011 at 10:16 am

    Like your ideas.

Altho as the reboot of Batman, the Turtles would be more dark. The smal guys that watched turtles in the 80’s are now old and “somewhat” more mature.

I couldn’t help but say, out loud to my monitor “Cowa-fuckin’-piece-of-dog-shit.” After you said “Cowabunga” at the end. In my mind, you(specifically YOU, Mr. James Rolfe) can’t say “Cowabunga” and not follow it with “Cowa-fuckin’-piece-of-dog-shit.” It sounds incomplete.

    April 12, 2011 at 10:51 am

What a great Turtle-Tuesday! I would like to see a big story in 3 volumes. Not 3 different stories like Spiderman, but more like LOTR!

A little intro, and the rise of the technodrome in vol 1.

Preparing for the fight and problems within the team plus the arrival of the rock army. Also some tragic event in vol 2.

And finally the kicking ass in vol 3.

I know it should be more balanced, not like Kill Bill where vol 1 was action and vol 2 was mostly backstory. So I would prefer to have little fights vs the foot clan or the mutants in the first 2 movies.

I really liked this review, awesome ideas. It made me wanna rewatch the whole series.

    Keep the good work guys!

  • freneticburn

    April 12, 2011 at 10:51 am

I agree with damn near everything. It needs to follow the old cartoon better and yet still be more “adult”. Rebooting would be stupid.

I actually just watched the first Turtles movie again for the first time in YEARS! And i still really enjoyed it. The second was ok, the 3rd…:-|. But the first live action was really great. One thing i definitely never noticed as a kid was all the sexual innuendo between Casey Jones and April. Kinda funny looking back at a kids movie. But i’m with James, a Live action would be AWESOME but with a much darker tone.

You also have to look at it financially too because they’re going to want to reach the more children of this age, not just old fan boys (no offense) especially since nickelodeon is on board. My kids love ninja turtles, even all the CGI movie. However, we don’t need another CGI movie, live action would rock!

See, the only problem with the movie concept is that produces bank on children being gullible enough to watch whatever TMNT stuff comes out, whether it’s awesome and put together well, or as bad as the music video. If they made this movie, would they have a guarantee that all the adults that loved this stuff as a kid come out and watch it? You can only trick so many adults, but you can always fool a kid.

And that is why awesome stuff is never made into a movie. Screw Hollywood and it’s compulsive need to make a buck(no really)

  • April 12, 2011 at 12:43 pm

They didn’t seem to hate the 2007 movie so..I just put that on my netflix queue. I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the ninja turtles. I was born in 1987 so I don’t know if I saw the whole series on TV, but it was one of my favorite shows as a kid. I still have my Turtles Blimp. It’s missing the bombs, but I still have the rest of it.

    April 12, 2011 at 1:02 pm

What about characters like Baxter Stockman as April was his former lab assistant before coming to TV news. Personally I think the video games especially the second generation ones did a great job of sticking to the original cartoons so lets base the movie off of them or at least follow that formula. Live action or animation either will work.

  • April 12, 2011 at 1:09 pm

I agree with everything they are saying here, but I would take it one step further and if we are going to include the Technodrome, then we should have Bebop and Rocksteady in the movie…however, that would probably have to be an animated film because I doubt the costumes for Bebop and Rocksteady, a Rhino and Pig, would look very realistic. Obviously, it isn’t realistic at all, but it wouldn’t look decent unless they were CGI. I can’t wait for this film though. Opening weekend, first in line, you will see me.

  • mutt1126

    April 12, 2011 at 1:18 pm

you guys are very correct. here’s my addition. they should put it pg-13. normal I can tell a movie is going to be bad if it has this rating (mostly horror films), but this would work because then it can be geared towards the adults who watched the cartoon, but also reach out to early teenagers who probably watched the new show when they were younger. best part, no parents who could get offended would have to watch it with their kid, such as in the case of an R rating and it could stay adult enough to reach the most likely audience to see this. up the swearing a little (say “fuck” as much as the original said “damn.” 3 times) and have no obligatory gore. just some minor gore, normal fighting wear and tear.

    April 12, 2011 at 1:38 pm

So I like most of the ideas James and Mike have, but I absolutely and categorically disagree with excluding Casey Jones from the new movie. If you want entertaining, high-action fight scenes (and it seems that James and Mike do), then Casey Jones is a MUST; the first live-action movie was proof enough of that.

Casey was (and still is) my absolute favorite character, and I would be beyond pissed if he wasn’t included, especially if the new movie ends up being a reboot.

    [/Casey fangirl moment]

Also, while I must say the idea of the turtles being more mature (both in the cursing and in the graphic nature of the violence) is an awesome concept, it’s more than likely not going to happen. There’s no way the studios are going to slap a PG-13 rating on it and shut out the kid demographic.

If Alien and Predator couldn’t get an R rated versus movie, then I don’t expect a new Turtles film to get anything higher than PG. Sad, but true.

  • April 12, 2011 at 1:42 pm

I don’t know why, but this reminded me of the movie Big when Tom Hanks is trying to get his point across in the meeting..

Well, couldn’t it be like a robot that turns into something like a bug
or something? A bug? Yeah! Like a big prehistoric insect with maybe like giant claws that..could pick up a car and crush it like that! A prehistoric transformer? Interesting. So the robot turns into a bug.

    Y’know that scene? ๐Ÿ˜€

You should really check out the comics. The most recent series (Volume 4, most issues are still available from Mirage at has a lot of what it sounds like you guys want. Since it’s based on the comic continuity, it doesn’t have Bebop, Rocksteady, or Krang, but it’s a continuation of the story that started in the 1980s and is aimed at an adult audience. So the Turtles are all in their 30s, their lives are all in weird places, Splinter dies, some fucked up things happen to a number of the characters, they’ll swear, and it’s generally just really interesting and dramatic science-fiction with the TMNT.

  • April 12, 2011 at 2:22 pm

My thought is-as long as they’re going the “reboot” route, they may as well try making it more faithful to the 80s cartoon with just a bit of an update to it, obviously making it a bit more serious. I’m not sure if they’d risk a PG-13 rating though although they’d at least be able to get one non-sexual use of the word “fucK” out of that. lol

I don’t think adding Krang would work for a continuation since they already established a sort of universe where that sort of thing might not entirely make sense or would at least feel slightly out-of-place.

  • April 12, 2011 at 2:23 pm

They should check out the TMNT 2003 cartoon series too. TO me, it’s more bad ass!

  • Deeke

    April 12, 2011 at 2:29 pm

I’ve always wanted to see Krang, Bebop & Rocksteady in a TMNT movie–it’d also be cool if Shredder went lone wolf and fought the Turtles AND Krang.

They need to make it live action and definitely make it based more off of the comics and/or the 2003-2009 cartoon. While I too loved the 1987-1989 cartoon, it was NOTHING like the comics. The newer 2003-2009 cartoon was more accurate. I also have to disagree with including the Technodrome or anything from the 80s cartoon. Watch it again and the only thing that will hold it up is your nostalgia. It’s actually not a very good cartoon. It’s way to cheesy and adds things that were never in the comics. Make it more geared towards teens and adults by having a PG-13 rating and having dark overtones to it, much like the original movie, and it will be a good movie.

  • April 12, 2011 at 2:35 pm

Hey everybody. Yes, Mike and I have seen Turtles Forever. It was aired in 3 parts, but I guess everyone seems to be saying that technically adds up to a “feature”? What I’m talking about is the idea of a live action, theatrical movie, and something that exists in its own universe.

Speaking of Turtles Forever, it gets mentioned in the cartoon reviews coming up.

Bebop and Rocksteady should be portrayed like the villains in fifth element with a bit more intelligence and more lethality and given a one time throwback comic relief which is NOT overdone…in other words, how they were portrayed in Turtles 2 for NES would be best.

No mention of the foot soldiers I noticed. Possibly next week. But either way they should be clones or robots (would give back story to the technodrome) because if they are portrayed as possibly being kids again, and the turtles are killing kids, that is a little bit sick.

    April 12, 2011 at 2:42 pm

I would totally love to see a new live action turtles, and while I’d love nostalgia from the 80’s cartoon, it would also be cool to see some stuff from the newer one too, like Utrom Shredder, cyborg Baxter Stockman, the Purple Dragon gang…actually that could make things kind of crowded, but if this becomes a SERIES, I’d love to see Baxter Stockman and the Pruple Dragons in a sequal, OH! Or maybe you start with Baxter and the Purple Dragons, then the Shredder reveals that he was pulling the strings behind them the whole time, in the second movie it’s all about Shredder (that’s where he can kill Splinter) and if it was Jet Lee vs Jackie Chan that would be AWESOME, but at the end it’s revealed that even he was having his strings pulled, and the THIRD movie would be about Krang and the invasion from Dimension X leading to an epic, action packed conclusion that could include surprise allies like Leatherface and the Fugitoid, there’s an epic trilogy right there!

  • April 12, 2011 at 2:44 pm

This was great. I agree with a lot of this, I’m not sure if you guys have seen the 2003 TMNT cartoon but it’s such an awesome combination between the comics and tributes from the 80s cartoon, and introduced a new and darker version. I feel like having a movie along those lines would also be great, while not catering to one aspect solely.

  • Karate Kid Icarus

    April 12, 2011 at 2:45 pm

Although it would be a good setup for a sequel…Part 1 the technodrome is a cloning tank that can crush a city, then is destroyed….Part 2 they kidnap kids for foot soldiers?? could happen

    April 12, 2011 at 3:04 pm

I think the 2007 movie was awsome. Sure it didn’t went with the usual enemies of the turtles, but who cares. it was mostly directed on the turtles and what have they gone thru for some years of basically not doing anything.
I love the fight between Raphael and Leonardo. Showing finally that Ralph is much stronger than Leo, even tough it’s thru fury. But still being named the sameway as the Red Menace, I loved that fight and the winner! XD

Now your theories are all great. Yes I would love to see Krang and the technodrome in the movie, not much of the side characters like the reporter crew, because like TF’s they sidetrack alot with the “human” characters and not much with the TF’s which is what we all went to see.

I do believe in the death of Splinter (as horrible as that sounds) by Shredder. The final blow should be witnessed by all four tutrles. The must be showned also a little of balance but most importantly to remove the fact theyr TEENAGER’S!!!!

I think they’re old enough not to be consider teeneagers, it was cool in the 80’s coz we all connected with them being at that age, but now they should be: “Adults!” starting manhood whatever you could call it.

I know the name TMNT is a great logo, but now should just be Ninja Turtles.

The recent cartoons of the 2000’s was great at least on the beginning. It was awsome just like the first eps of the 80’s more fights, personnalities and well great kickass fights. Also they should use more ninjitsu.

  • April 12, 2011 at 3:18 pm

Zooey Deschanel as Irma. As far as the new movie goes, I would have liked to see a legit cell-animated version in the 80s, as a kid, but now, after seeing the original TMNT movie–which I can, to this day, watch and enjoy thoroughly (“ninja kick the damn rabbit!”)–, I would now prefer live action.

I’m okay with an origin story, as long as it’s kept under 5 minutes, because, if the producers are going to try and go for a legit series of films, I think it’s important for those not keen on the Turtles’ story.

Make it more geared towards the 27 – 33 age range. Yes! Use “FUCK!” I mean, c’mon…”shit” was used in Transformers the Movie.

Have all the characters we know and love from the early incarnation of the cartoon series. I also like James’ idea of having, since they *are* teens, the Turtles lazing too much, and having to get their rears in-gear. Have Splinter or some other central character die as part of the climax, setting up part 2 as a kick-ass revenge story. Let there be violence. After movie 1, they never used their weapons! Maybe they drew them once or twice, but the Turtles never used the weapons…dammit!

I never saw the ’07 version, but I WILL go see the latest live-action film. I hope they don’t fuck it up.

Really agree with a lot of the stuff you guys said. I defiantly Agree that Casey should be taken out by Rocksteady and Bebop. In my opinion they’re cool characters and I’m sick of Casey Jones. Really like the ideas about the Technodrome destroying a major city. If they focus on that, I think Bebop and Rocksteady might be hard to develop properly, since Krag will need a back story and all that.

Although I’d prefer live action to anything, I think they’d fuck it up if they tried it. Most of the effects would probably be awful CGI, so I’d rather have high quality animation.

  • April 12, 2011 at 5:19 pm

I honestly disagree with almost all of what you guys would like to see in the movie. I would like to see a proper adaption of the comics. You guys also have not considered there has been another generation that has grown up with the 2003 series which imo is much, much better than the original series. The original was good for its time and what it was but seriously I do not want any part of that. The original cartoon especially the later seasons is very difficult to watch.

It has been said before the direction that they wanted to take with the TMNT reboot is the first 11 issues of the Eastman & Laird comics. Also they would have cg faces put over the live action suits.

You guys should watch the 2k3 series, I recently watched the entire dvd run of the original toon and am 3/4 done watching through the 2k3 series. It is a great TMNT show, if Viacom can make their show as good or better I’d be seriously impressed. Also please check out more of the original comics. I’d suggest 1-11 plus the 4 micro series single turtle issues, 19-21and 50-61 from Vol 1. IDW is going to be reprinting the comics starting this summer 1-11 (August I believe). There are other books but those would give you a good idea of the Eastman & Laird books.

    April 12, 2011 at 5:35 pm

The thing was, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird hated the 80’s cartoon and the characters and elements it introduced. It’s one of the reasons the 1987 turtles characterizations were oversimplified and dumbed down in Turtles Forever (also may have contributed to the original voice actors not returning). However, they no longer have any creative control over the franchise, so some continuation of the 80’s series is a possibility now.

I almost fully agree with you guys. Your ideas are truly what every fanboy and non-fanboy should have. The only thing I think that would make it better is if they had a smaller story about revenge in the first (reboot) of the turtles movies. The second one should involve the Techno-drome coming through dimension-X and fucking up Manhattan. One thing that the TMNT has never dealt with is the long lifespan of a turtle. The record lifespan is 188 years, and you’d think a mutant turtle could live even longer.

  • April 12, 2011 at 6:18 pm

The original movie is based more on the comics with some tidbits from the TV show thrown in (colored bandanas) so kids had something to connect with and it didnt seem as foreign.

I would MUCH rather them do a film based solely on the comic books. All red bandanas. Actually using their weapons. But now that Viacom owns TMNT outright and since Peter Laird / Mirage has given up all of his creative control of the series, I doubt that will ever happen.

Hey guys, if you didn’t plan it already, you should do a review of the TMNT: Forever movie. You know, the crossover of the ’80s and ’00s series. And then they threw in the original comic characters at the end. I loved that movie, and the only single thing I didn’t like about it, was that the Comic-Era Shredder only made a cameo, instead of doing something. Other that that, it’s awesome. I’d love to see you review it!

  • April 12, 2011 at 6:54 pm

I agree to, but lets face it guys, the only reason to do this movie is to “introduce” the t.m.n.t to a new generation and for us, all the nostalgic fans, it will be kind of good, but not enough to do the turtles say fuck and stuff! D:

id very much like to see a live-action sequel to the original 1990 movie. have the Shredder be alive and joining forces with Krang. see Bepop and Rocksteady on the big screen. see Donatello make the official Turtle Van.

if not that, then it would be cool to see a higher production animated version that features all the original voice actors from the 80’s tv series.

if neither of those..then i just wont have any interest in seeing the Turtles franchise continue on the big screen. instead id just want the original cartoon series on bluray.

I like all of these ideas but one thing I think there should be is a scene involving Raphael and Splinter (before he is murdered) similar to the original movie where Splinter lectures Raphael about his anger, for myself it was always a very emotional scene and really helped to establish the rage felt by Raphael throughout the rest of the movie.

I really liked the first movie the most. I was hoping they did a continuation of the first movie and not count the others as part of the series. At the end of the first one with super Shredder not being dead to come back in the second one with Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady. They could of had a sexier April in it and maybe show a turtle come into a room while she is changing and get a peep to make the movie PG-13. I think they could add better fight scenes as well with maybe a turtle getting cut and bleed turtle blood or something.

I love you guys, and I get endless joy from watching the two of you talk shit about movies and games and just being yourselves… But I really have to disagree with you on this one.

The only thing we really agree on is that I want to see a much much more mature, adult aimed version of the turtles.. but I want to do away with all the cartoon wackiness.

Don’t get me wrong, I was a huge fan of the cartoon and I had the action figures and the Shreddies cereal rings and all that shit. But for the turtles to be new, and awesome by today’s standards.. you just can’t have a talking brain inside a robot suit driving around a giant robot globe and rock monsters from another dimension.. it’s just so cheesy.

I want to see the turtles fightings Shredder and the foot clan, just like the first live action movie which was fucking amazing. Still, to this day the first live turtles movie is awesome.

The difference though, is that there should be true consequences.. like the foot clan should be killing innocent people and the turtles should be killing the foot clan.

Why the hell does Leo have 2 katanas (more like wakasashis) if he isn’t going to cut anyone? It’s retarded..

I also disagree with you guys that a reboot is unnecessary.. If we are going to grow this series up, we need to start over and have a more gritty, adult back story. I want to see the turtles have an internal conflict about whether or not they should even help humanity.. They have had to hide and eat from garbage their whole lives to avoid contact with humans so they shouldn’t initially give a shit about what happens to them. (on a side note.. they should have their first taste of pizza in this movie)

I think that the turtles and splinter should be the only ‘mutants’ in the series. it should be some kind of stem cell, gene therapy experimentation gone wrong. Like maybe they were trying to grow organs for turtles as a precursor to human organ cultivation and they somehow grew entire humanoid turtles.. and tried to cover it up by dumping them in the sewer.

Sure this isn’t a purist view of the series but I think that they should re-think it for a new generation because when people try to be faithful to cartoons, or some other medium that isn’t at all like what they want to make.. it just turns out to be shit.

Anyway, I could go on forever but I’ll shut up now.

Again, love you guys. Big fan.

In regards to Mikes comment about peopleโ€™s response about Krang not being in the comic book, he actually was. These aliens run the mysterious facility known as T.C.R.I. (โ€œTechno-Cosmic Research Instituteโ€). The cartoons interpretation although varying slightly especially with the look of humanoid robot body. Their story is based on being stranded on earth for thirty years with the goal of creating a transmit device in which to return them to their home planet. Their waste, the mutagen that transformed the turtles and not splinter who was already just a special gifted rat who studied his owner Master Yoshi , who must have just grown from the reaction with the substance, was actually in fact the aliens waste being transported for disposal. The ooze is a mutagenic microbial agent, a byproduct of alien experiments with organic circuitry. The aliens are not hostile and simple wish to return home with an almost complete transmit device. Maybe a good plot idea would be Shredders manipulation of these aliens for his goals, with a great ending having Donatello complete their unfinished invention to save them from shredders plan of destruction.

I seem to remember Kevin Eastman saying something about the “reboot” being about Splinter mostly , and not the Turtles. Said something about being ‘inspired by the newer Batman films.’

    April 13, 2011 at 12:12 am

I think its kinda contradictory to say you want to have a more adult oriented movie and at the same time to have the technodrome, dimension X and all that shit in it. I think that takes a lot of realism off the movie. I want a live action movie that is a sequel to the 3rd movie, lets say that movie was just a dream Michaelangelo had and so return to the basics the first 2 movies settled. A realistic scenario, good humor, and a lot of action. Violence is necessary too, i dont want any childish stunt fights, but REAL fights. Im tired of seeing the foot soldiers being so awkward and stupid, as well as all the other enemies. I want to have competitive and smart villains.

Im not sure about Krang, i could live without him but in case of having it for i dont want him to be a being from dimension X or whatsoever for any reason, instead lets make him be the result of some weird experiment such as mutagen spilled over a human brain or something like that, something original. Have a plot based more or less upon the events of TMNT Tournament Fighters, that would be nice.

  • April 13, 2011 at 12:25 am

The movie Turtles Forever was to be a direct to DVD movie. The TV version is missing I believe 11-13 minutes of the film. It was supposed to be shown in select theaters but after the Viacom buyout it was put on hiatus and then shown in theater. The dvd version that was eventually released was not in wide screen or the complete version either.

I am sure its possible to find the complete version online if one tries for anyone interested. It was kind of a conclusion to the series but it was really the perfect movie to celebrate the entire TMNT history up to that point of all the incarnations of the turtles.

  • April 13, 2011 at 12:26 am

then shown on TV I should have said. It was going to be shown in Theater but plans were scrapped after the buyout is what I meant.

In the spanish dub, the turtles said some bad words such as “Cojonudo” that is more or less “Bitchin’!” and they replaced the “Cowabunga” for “De puta madre” that would be like “Motherfuckin’ cool”. My brother and I were shocked and pretty happy to hear that and we spent a lot of time saying those expressions in secret with a huge smile in our faces.

    April 13, 2011 at 12:56 am

The spanish version from Spain was really sucky, just like all the movies and series dubbed in Spain. The mexican version was far superior, as usual. I cant believe you used such a disgusting expression as โ€œDe put* madreโ€ for cowabunga, thats totally wrong for a movie that is supposed to be kid oriented, besides it makes no sense because its not even a remote translation for that expression and sounds just retarded. Not to mention the voices are horrible. Spanish dub will always SUCK

Don’t agree with mike about making the movie animated. The coolest thing about fantasy movies is trying to fully realize ideas in a way that brings them as close to our reality as possible. My argument for grounding the turtles in a live action reality is also part of my plea that the new film will not be too ridiculous and over the top like the 2007 cg movie. Make it more about the fantastical characters in a grounded reality, like the first film tried to do, and not about a fantastical world where the rules of reality are random and used for convenient or contrived plot devices. This isn’t Harry Potter, okay?

According to wikipedia: “TMNT will be a co-production between Paramount and Nickelodeon.”

So, since nick is a part of it, I doubt it will be a more mature version… it will probably be like the second turtles movie where they barely use their weapons, etc. Hope I am wrong.

They should put a good martial artist in the Shredder costume, but they should let James Avery voice him.
And I agree with Krang and Bebob and Rocksteady. Those were the ones that got shafted in the movies and never showed up.

And there should be deaths in the movie.

I have posted a link to the video for the official youtube page

    Keep making videos.

As a Turtles fan since I was 3, I grew up more or less watching the live action movies more than the cartoon. I personally think a live action would be preferable. I agree with both james and mike that its time we harken back to the comics and grow the turtles up. In the first movie Donatello is seen trying to have a serious talk with Michaelangelo about what it would be like without Splinter, Mikey avoids the discussion. Thats what we need to see, the inevitable outcome of their mentor/father figure, gone.
Before that though we do need to see them going through the most grueling training. Again I can’t agree with you guys more, we need to see the more disciplinary side of Splinter. He needs to be stern. They are ninjas after all. One could look at it as they’re finally being tested to become fully fledged Ninja, no longer students.
In regards to the relationships, I want to see more of the brothers interactions with each other. We know Raph is the hot head and rebel but perhaps we should see him relate to one of his brothers for once. As much as I love the idea of Leo and Raph clashing, I feel like that has been exhausted. We need to see what each brother can take and learn from the other 3. For example, Don is the most pacifistic one, Raph could learn from him and Don could learn that a more hands on physical approach has its benefits. Also, due to them being teenagers, I do like the idea of them having to deal with the loneliness and sexual frustration. To be the only ones of their kind, they definitely have some issues that could really be explored.
Villianwise, A return of Bebop and Rocksteady if done as you guys explained, I think would work. Make them more Deadly and less bumbling hench men. Shredder is kind of expected with the turtles and to have him finish off Splinter would make their drive to fight him all the more personal than them fighting because he killed Splinters master. The invasion of dimension X would be a really grand adventure to see and it would finally force the turtles to come out of hiding. The mass destruction would be really different for a turtles film, but again I think thats what we need. Progression to something bigger.
As for April and Casey, An update on those 2 would make better sense. This is a fan trailer showing that April has gotten herself in trouble with the local gangs, perhaps for her website. Updating her from a news reporter to a Internet blogger makes much more sense in context. She’s very young and very open minded, news reporters seem too high strung. With Casey I can see him as a criminal maybe because fighting is all he was really good at but he has reservations about it and in meeting April he feels affection and how he needs to turn his life around.
Well thats all I could think of right now. I could talk about this stuff for ages though. I hope you do more Ninja Turtle vids, keep up the great work.

Not sure if you’re familiar with the podcast “Bagged & Boarded” but they did an episode with Kevin Eastman (esp. #87).
VERY interesting revelations about the origin of the turtles and what his fav. turtle movie is (suprise, surprise! guess which one it is?).

I honestly don’t know how they coulden’t reboot the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie franchise… I mean, unless they plan on placing the fifth movie in the 90’s right after TMNT (guessing that TMNT took place in the 90’s). The first movie opened in 1990 so a sequel taking place in 2011 wouldn’t entirely make a hole lot of sense with the franchise name unless they plan to call it ‘Mutant Ninja Turtles’ for the fact that they’d be in their mid to late thirties by now.

Hmmm… can’t say I agree with this video. I didn’t really like the Saturday-morning cartoony 2007 movie, and I think the new live-action movie should start over and be closer to the comics. It can be done without feeling like a retread– after all, Batman Begins never felt like a retread of Tim Burton’s Batman, for example.

Also, as my favorite character, I object to the idea of not putting Casey Jones in the film. It would be funny to add a bit of the psychotic personality from the old cartoon into the character, though.

I have to be honest here, if they put in everything you guys talk about, it’s going to be over-ambitious and probably turn out to be a terrible movie. If they took your ideas over say, three films, then it could probably be do.

    April 13, 2011 at 8:22 pm

If they reboot it I feel some of the movie should talk about the turtles trainning and being young and start them all in their red Masks and through the movie maybe splinter gets kidnaped and killed in the technodrome by crang and the turtles finally work together and before the last fight they all dawn their new colors ie. blue, orange, and purple and raph keeps his and taters his up some. also i think they should make the turtles more unique like make leo lean and tone, raph the big turtle and give mike alittle gut lol , and don has to be doc brown with his inventions.

I think that be interesting if they have to reboot it.

you guys NEED to watch TURTLES FOREVER….

I’ve been a follower of the turtles for a life time and have a ton of their toys as well. Turtles Forever cleverly blends the old and the new turtle generation and was a great way of ending the franchise….well so I heard.

While watching it I had to pause and just laugh of how well they really did this movie with portraying the old and the new. At times I forgot how the old turtles use to be and their lines just sent me back in time.

I think nostalgic critic did a short review on it but I’d love to hear what you guys have to think of this movie….. it so well done i think i’m going to watch it right now!!!!

BTW been a fan of yours for years keep up the good stuff James!

  • ded5833

    April 13, 2011 at 9:49 pm

@ItzPez, I can’t say I agree with you. While Turtles Forever was somewhat enjoyable, they made the 80s turtles way too useless. They made a joke out of them, while they were more joke oriented in their version, they were not useless. I don’t remember an instance in the movie where they actually fight and do a good job of it. They were more witty in the original and it didn’t come out with it.

They just exaggerated the one side of the 80s cartoons turtles and it did little justice to them.

And what do you mean ‘so you heard’? Does this mean you haven’t watched the cartoon or the movie?

I’d love to hear what they have to say about it, but for me it was alright and it did a great injustice to the 80s cartoon turtles. Also, I can’t really say I enjoyed the newer cartoon either.

Gustav please correct me if I am wrong but I found this on the web. Physically, an Utrom is a small and light creature. They are hairless and are usually pink, but there are also yellow, orange, purple, and red ones. Their appearance is similar to that of a human brain. They have two eyes, a mouth with sharp teeth, no nose, and a number of tentacles. The tentacles serve as both hands and feet. However, most Utrom dislike walking, preferring to use an human-shaped exosuit or a hover pad. Unless injured or diseased, Utroms have a long lifespan, lasting centuries or millenia in Earth years.

Utroms are usually extremely peaceful and non-interfering.

    Mirage Comics
The Utroms were stranded on Earth and interacted with humans through the company, T.C.R.I.. They are responsible for creating and losing the canister of mutagen that transformed Splinter and the Turtles. When they were stranded, the Utroms contacted their homeworld. They were ordered to stay and observe humanity. Eventually, they were forced to leave Earth by teleporting to another world. They later returned and opened official relations with humans and other alien races. Krang was based of this idea was this not in the Mirage comics like they are saying?

I’m going to stop myself there. This comment can go on for another 16 paragraphs, but you guys are damn selfish. This movie isn’t for you and your ideas are terrible. What makes you guys think you know what would be best for a Turtles film? What makes you think the makers of the movies OWE you these changes?

  • mosaic.wav

    April 14, 2011 at 2:45 pm

Like the vid, though it was just a tad long for something so simple.
I loved the cartoons as a kid and the original movie. I also loved the CG movie released more recently. What I think I agree on most strongly is that the movie should be a little more adult than the originals (more like the tone of the comic.)
There are plenty of series which have aged along with their original target audience in order to stay fresh and true at the same time (like Harry Potter and to some extent Transformers,) and I think it would suit the Turtles well. In the animated movie my favourite scene was when Leo and Raf fought each other on top of that building because it was a dark moment between the two of them. They were legitimately angry at each other and weren’t holding anything back. Especially when Raf realized what he was doing in the end and that look on his face, it felt natural and a little moving.
It would also be great if they used the old characters not only for nostalgia’s sake, but also because they’re just really unique and enjoyable.
It was cool to hear what you guys think of the movie, and I hope it doesn’t blow.

    April 14, 2011 at 3:25 pm

I totally agree with James on this one.
The 1st live action movie brought something new and different to the tmnt world. I love how it was more ‘adult’ and brought on a more darker tone. The costumes were so amazing for its time and i think it worked perfectly. I also agree that Bebop and Rocksteady are a MUST, or at least bring some classic character(s) to it.

Also @WolfgangLaRocco, your a friggin’ douchebag.

I heard there were plans to do an animated/ CG sequel to the 2007 film with the Rat King as the villain, but I guess nothing came of that.
Wow, Mike really loves the Technodrome! Of course, it would be cool to see it in live- action. I’m not too sure about Krang, though. I know a lot of people want to see Krang, but I don’t see how they could do a live- action version of him that wouldn’t look totally ridiculous.

Personally from what I read, the new movie will be based on the old comics which had no Craing, Technodrome, nor any Bebop and Rocksteady. (All an archie universe thing really…) But I’m personally all for it ๐Ÿ™‚ The old comics were wonderful, gory, and had great characters like professor Honycut, and really went wild with the origins of the “ooz”. The ninja battles were bloody and ferocious, and the dimensions they travel to are really cool. I say that it’s great that they are going for the reboot ๐Ÿ˜€

On another note, if you want to read a really cool comic of what comes into the older lives of the turtles, check this out:

I can only wish for something this cool to happen with the turtles ๐Ÿ™‚

If it is Michael Bay directing the film, I think we can be pretty sure it’s gonna be kick ass. He did a great job on Transformers and Transformers 2 and he loves things like TMNT so I doubt he’ll fuck it up.

But yeah, I wanna see Crang in it badly and Vernon would kick ass too. Bebop and Rocksteady always annoyed me tbh, so if their not in that’s fine by me, but then if they do put them in I’m cool with that too, especially if they make them bad ass like you guy’s suggested.

But tbh, I’ve read things that make me think that this movie will be based off the comics, not the cartoon. Which is cool, the comics are more mature so…

  • April 15, 2011 at 5:37 am

I agree with you guys. To me it seem stupid to do another reboot, we already know all that shit. Just like the new Spider-man movie! Why, another reboot? It’s also happening in video games with Mortal Kombat and Tomb Raider… It feels like they’re not making sequels, because only originals have artistic value, so instead of doing original stories they do again and again the same original story.

Anyway the turtle’s penis is in their tail. In fact male turtles have bigger tails.

@ WolfgangLaRocco – Yes, this movie is for them, as I’m sure they’ll both be spending money in a theater to see it. That doesn’t make them ‘selfish’; that makes them ‘consumers’. Should you need an explanation of this term, you’ll find it between chlamydia and diarrhea in the dictionary.

Also, neither one of them ever said that the producers/directors/writers of the new movie owed them anything, so take a freaking Xanax and assume a meditation position. Damn, already.

I don’t understand this video. Just last year (maybe the year before, I’m not exactly sure) they released Turtles Forever, which was an animated movie, and essentially exactly what Motherfucker was saying he wanted in the next movie (though it continues the story from the TV series….es?). Have you guys seen it yet? It’s really good.

  • dvelez1985

    April 16, 2011 at 6:02 pm

Turtles Forever was a movies continued from the series as ClanPsi pointed out. I think he makes a very good point though it has excellent drawings it took us back to the 80’s and even further. They even mocked how the 80’s show would break the 4th wall which was even funnier in my opinion. It has just was you want and is in the length of a movie. To quote a Geico commercial the buck does really stop here. Now it’s time for a new decade of movies to come through.

You guys forgot to mention the inevitable CGI turtles instead of guys in costumes. The 2007 film was billed as being a darker and grittier version of the turtles but I don’t think they realised that being darker has nothing to do with setting the film entirely at night. The 1990 turtles film will most likely never be topped.

Fuck having Michael Bay direct it…. just have these two. You guys have some of the greatest ideas for this movie. It sould be geared towards adults and have alot more mature content. Any director thinking of doing a reboot of any series can go shove it up their ass. There is only a 5 – 10% of it being successful like the Dark Knight accomplisments. But seriously though why aren’t you directing this…. you have the best ideas and this video should be getting passed around to spread these ideas so that no more shitty movies have to be made. I hope they see this and actually listen on how to make a good movie for once.

  • Necron99

    April 18, 2011 at 2:19 pm

Definitely no to a reboot. They should start off already established, Shredder has been defeated hiding in humiliation. And since Shredder has been gone the turtles have gotten lazy, they don’t deal with common street thugs, they leave that to the police. Then Krang shows up and helps Shredder build a army of robotic foot soldiers. Technodrome being the base where the army gets built. Now the turtles have get their shit together to try and defeat them. Maybe even the death of Splinter to have some sort of revenge/motivation. If they have April O’neil and Casey Jones, let them just be there, don’t give them their own plots. Just there for help. There could be appearances of the news crew like if they cut to a scene showing a news broadcast. Just keep everyone else as small appearances. I’m just emphasizing for them not to get side tracked, just keep focused on the turtles and Shredder and that’s it.
But I have a gut feeling they will be making this movie from scratch, from the beginning.

  • daydr3amindavey

    April 18, 2011 at 3:23 pm

It would be cool for the turtles to be dark . They did it with Batman, why not the turtles; it was in the old comics. In Turtles Forever, they brought a collaboration with the old and new TMNT cartoons with all the characters, even with the vengeful turtles, which was cool. Hopefully in the new movie they don’t put the Purple Dragons but Michael Bay has the rights and it will be co-produced with Viacom and Nickelodeon, which means there will not be a dark TMNT film, unfortunately.

Great video James, I had a blast watching it. You and Mike had some great ideas, here’s hoping Bay & co. don’t fuck this up. The new animated series coming out on Nickelodeon has Don & Mikey carrying bladed weapons for some reason. If you do another video talking about what you & Mike would like to see in a new TMNT animated series, I’d like to see you guys talk about that for a bit.

i agree with both mike and james, that a reboot is a mistake. just continue the story. i liked the cg tmnt. i would like a sequel like that. mix both james and mike’s ideas, but with cg. but, hey, anyone can have a opinion.

  • Saberoph

    April 18, 2011 at 6:02 pm

I think most of the 80’s cartoon cast should be in the new movie, but make it two movies. And in the opening show like comic pages of the Turtles and Splinters origin and April meeting them, so it’s out of the way, but it can be told at the same time.

It would be neat to make the first movie around the Turtles and Shredder, let Splinter and Shredder have it out then kill Splinter off, the Turtles are after their revenge, and just when they’re about to get it. The portal to the other dimension is opened, then end it there.

Later on follow up where the last movie leaves off, and the Turtles have to figure out how to defeat the rock soldiers, and in both movies have Donatello invent items and/or vehicles they can use to defeat the enemy.

  • April 19, 2011 at 5:13 pm

My idea: Splinter dies and the turtles decie that they cant fight without him so Donatello invents a machine that makes the turtles humans then the technadrome comes from somewhere and attacks where ever the turtles live but the machine doesnt work in reverse and Donatello dosent want to change back t oa human because hes being sucessfull as a human or instead of that idea he’s becoma a drug addict and doesnt know how to invent things like that anymore and i cant come up with anything else cause ive never seen a episode of TMNT in my life

I gotta say I think you guys are spot on with needing a new story with the Turtles. I grew up with them just like you & I can really do without another origin movie. I like the idea of having Bebop & Rocksteady along with Krang & Shredder. I doubt we’ll get something that awesome though with the way Hollywood almost always great franchises. That being said the 2007 animated reboot, was actually pretty faithful to the comics (well parts of it were at the least) and I genuinely enjoyed the show. The classic is still #1 for its nostalgia factor, but I hope whatever incarnation the ‘Heroes in a Half-Shell’ take on next, it captures the real essence of what the Turtles should always stand for – Ninja Ass Kickin’ & a ton of pizza! Cowabunga!

I don’t get how Mike can go off saying they need to pick up where the 2007 movie left off. Yet he wants it to be geared towards an adult crowd, with move violence.

I think a reboot is definitely needed. If it is based off of the original comics it has the potential to be amazing.

    I agree w/ James Netzer
Let me take it to the next level:
First I respect every turtle fan’s idea and opinion but I have to respect Kevin Eastman & Peter Laird’s original idea the most (duh!). So w/ that said I still to this day can’t understand how the nostalgia feeling people get overcomes the fact that Fred Wolf bastardized the turtles in the 1980’s cartoon. I also don’t understand how the origin is played out either….There was one origin movie…it was by Steve Barron in 1989 it had 2 crappy direct sequels and one loose cgi sequel in 2007. So played out and not need to be seen again….I disagree, a Batman Begins style reboot is a must for the turtles. They need to drink, cuss, & spill blood like Eastman & Laird intended. April needs to work for Baxter not Channel 6 and the Fugitoid & Utroms could make for amazing sequels and sci-fi action movies. All you guys stuck in your ways w/ the 80’s toon are, in my opinion, saying “hey Eastman & Laird, you’re great in all and Ima let you finish but let me say that Fred Wolf took your idea and made it awesome, but thanks for trying” so…. I’m out.

    Slaysghosts has a great point.

A Batman Begins type reboot is definitely in order. If you look at all the old batman movies, the story of how he became batman was told about 10 different times in 10 different ways.

Just because it was done before so many times, doesn’t mean it doesn’t need to be done again. Imagine if they took that logic when filming the new batmans. Batman Begins wouldn’t have nearly been what it is today.

A fresh new start to the Ninja Turtle franchise is exactly what is needed. It can be dark and based off the original comics. There is no need to aim it towards kids. If they want to make money off of merchandise, they still will. Just look at kids toys now. There are plenty of batman begins/dark knight toys out their aimed at young kids, yet the movies were not directly marketed towards them.

    PS- I love this website.

I couldn’t agree with slaysghost and James Netzer more. I like James and Mike, grew up with the 1980’s cartoon. However, when I grew up, my taste and sensibilities have changed. Once I found out that the “original” cartoon series was loosely based off of the comic with the same name by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, I was instantly hooked into the mythos that Eastman and Laird fleshed out. I never looked back since. I still watch the original series for nostalgia reason’s, but it doesn’t hook me in like the comic’s or the 2003 re-launch did. I respect the 80’s cartoon because it was responisble for making me a Turtle fan. However, I don’t want the theme’s from the 80’s cartoon mixed in with this new movie relaunch. I believe whole heartedly that the Turtles need a Batman Begin’s reboot. If done right, it can do wonder’s for the franchise.

This was a good interesting vid. I have my cast but first i would like to say who should do the CGI Turtles, Bebop , Rocksteady and Krang it should be WETA. They did hreat work for Gollum, Kong and Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Now the cast:

    Miche;angelo: (?)

    Raphael: (?)

    Donatello: (?)

    Splinter: Jackie Chan

    Shredder: Hugo Weaving

April (I have four choices here): Scarlett Johansen, Amy Adams, Sarah Michelle Giller or Hayley Atwell

    Baxter: Temeureu Morrison

    Irma: Kat Dennings

Vern (Three choices here): Bruce Campbell, Jeff Goldblum or John Turtorro

I think it would be a witty idea if they somehow combined elements of the original comic with the old series we grew up with. For example, perhaps the movie could explain how April O’neil used to work for Baxter Stockman before fleeing from him and running into the turtles. Baxter’s character can then fall into obscurity as a credible scientist which leads him to encounter Shredder to regain his dignity, or a false sense of it, and April will get a job at channel 6 news where the TV show characters are introduced- Urma, Vernon, Burn.

There’s no need to be formulaic. The movie ought to achieve a balance between appeasing the nostalgia factor to the original cartoons, and paying homage to the original comics through a modern perspective. Although, I’d like to see some cheesy 80’s fashion and new wave music somehow incorporated into the film as well.

you guys need to make the new TMNT movie!

  • HorazStCruz

    March 4, 2012 at 5:47 pm

Totally Agreed. In order to develop the characters properly it should also be a trilogy.
BTW, you know why the animated films worked?
Because they were animes. Both Transformers and GI Joe.
    And EVERYONE could notice that.

Just had to point out about the “FUUUCK” thing is that in Chicken little, the pig (what ever his name is) yells “Get the FUCK OUT OF HERE!” so this proves that they can curse yet keep it a kid-ish film.

Totally agree with everything you guys said, I just feel really upset that there’s talk about making the Turtles “Aliens” in this next movie, which would totally fuck up the series in my opinion.

  • January 4, 2013 at 7:39 pm

So you basically want them to do a movie version of the TV series.

  • September 21, 2013 at 2:57 am

Maybe Donatello can invent like a mega-mondo lighting ray gun to shoot a hole in the Technodrome, but it has to be powered by a big truck. They need to keep stealth for some reason, but the big, loud truck gives them away somehow.

  • January 13, 2014 at 3:00 pm

I don’t like this whole ninja turtle alien backstory i mean i love tmnt but i don’t care and bebop and rocksteady aren’t going to be in the new tmnt movie and what do you guys think of the 2012 tv series that currently airing on nickleodeon?
