Who didn’t grow up watching PeeWee’s Playhouse? That show was a Saturday morning staple! Thanks for sharing.

I fuckin’ love Pee Wee. My favorite episode on his show was the one with the big, one leg, one eye, green monster.

My cousin’s sons used to watch Pee Wee all the time, so I caught it a lot when I was visiting. Eventually I saw both movies as well.

I’ve heard Pee Wee was always more mature on stage than on the TV likely thanks to censors and the fact that the TV show ended up being targeted more to kids.

Nice old ST:TNG shirt, Mike, befitting the old Pee Wee era.

i wish pee wee can make one last movie

The problem with Peewee Herman is the last thing anyone remembers him for is getting caught jerking off in a theater. That’s a tough act to follow.

Truly, before I heard this review, I had no idea he was doing ANY kind of show.

It would be cool to see another high quality Peewee Hermann movie, but I have my doubts about it ever happening.

  • December 20, 2010 at 4:08 pm

Cowboy Curtis was played by Laurence Fishburne, so I don’t think he’ll ever come back. He’s very strict in his religious beliefs. He disowned his own daughter for getting into porn, so I doubt he wants anything to do with Paul Ruebens who’s been arrested twice for sex acts. With that said, I hope Pee-Wee can make a comeback. I miss that guy.

I remember some of the innuendos on the tv show like:

(Jambi magically grows an orange tree)
Pee Wee: Wow, Jambi, do you have a green thumb?
Jambi: That’s not all that’s green.

Pee-Wee WILL come back to the big screen!

I watched Pee Wee as a kid, but not that much. From what you described, I don’t think I’d enjoy myself at this show.

No one ever seems to spell his name right. It is Pee-wee with no capital on the W. It’s not that big of a deal, but I rarely if ever see it correctly written.

Dang, Mike’s Peewee voice is pretty good.

You guys were discussing the time before Pee Wee Herman Show. If I was correct, he also had an HBO tv series “Pee Wee’s Adult Playhouse” prior to the kids show, AND he was in Cheech and Chong films, I believe prior to Pee Wee’s Playhouse.

I went to this show in november with a friend james. it was great, but I was a bit worried that the abstinence thing would get a bit preachy, fortunately it was quite tempered.

  • December 21, 2010 at 1:28 pm

I was too old to really watch Peewee’s playhouse, I watched Peewee in his early days with Cheech and Chong.

Peewee appeared in many Cheech and Chong movies, and was great as a cocaine addicted lunatic.

avgnfan96, Pee-Wee Herman IS making another movie, but it’s not supposed to be a remake.

I remember his stage stuff before Playhouse; The humor was more adult. I’ll never forget the mirror on the shoe he was using to look up a lady’s dress.

If its the same actor then it should be called a revival rather than a remake.

How are they even able to register?

Went to see the show back in December. I love it. So funny.

I’m so glad he’s getting all the recognition. He’s been named in so many “best of 2010” lists recently.

@ James – did you stick around after the show? Pee-wee came out the side stage doors and greeted people. He thanked everyone for coming out and chatted up the crowd a bit.

BTW – the stage show is going to be recorded for an HBO special. So now everyone will have a chance to see it.

  • January 6, 2011 at 3:55 pm

I don’t know if you guys know this, but between the original stage show and the movie they had a an HBO special. It’s actually on DVD and it’s hilarious.Sounds like they might be rehashing some of the old stage show too though, because the Giambi gets his hands skit was in the HBO special. Just sayin.

  • November 18, 2013 at 5:57 pm

    …He does em’, just rarely.

Good to see that he’s occasionally coming up, him and some others seem to do well in their later years, that way, just occasionally bobbing up, or some later reference stuff.

Surprisingly you guys sounded relatively clear through the iPhone. I never got the chance to get into Pee Wee growing up, the only thing I cared about was the ”Godzilla scene” from his movie 😛
