The Chocolate Moose

James / November 20th, 2010

I have a trunk full of comics I drew as a child. They are totally bizarre. A lot of these were done during class time when I should’ve been paying attention to the teacher. Often I crumpled these drawings up and rolled them across the floor for a fellow classmate to pick up. Other times, they got folded into paper airplanes and sailed across the room. Sometimes it would end up in the hands of the teacher and get canned. Fortunately, many of them survived. Here’s one from about age 10. It’s only a small sample. I’ve been thinking of scanning a bunch more in the future, so this is just a test.

wow, that was great. XD I actually did the exact same thing during classes, except I did comics based off Doom, where there were four marines like in multiplayer and all of them had different personalities.

….Ever consider making more of them? XD

    November 20, 2010 at 7:02 pm

hehe wow you were really talented at 10, lol your moose does look alittle like a deer, but hey a chocolate deer would taste better.

Were you inspired by dessert?. lol looking forward to seeing the epic conclusion to this story.

  • November 20, 2010 at 7:39 pm

LOL this comic is awesome for a ten-year-old. good page lay-out and effective drawing.

I did one in High School that was about an Alien that smoked weed all the time. He always died in various ways like Kenny from South Park. Kenny is my favorite character, so he was the inspiration.

I remember when I used to to draw weird comics. I drew this one with my friend where a Magic Genie defeats his arch-nemesis, Geevil. Such a horrible play on words.

  • SpeedyEric

    November 21, 2010 at 1:26 am

When I was in kindergarten, I made a few one-panel Batman comics, because “Batman: The Animated Series” just started on TV at the time.

And yes, they were weird. I don’t have them anymore, but I do remember that I drew batman with his cape actually drawn as a back skirt, and I didn’t know how to draw the “sh!t-and-p!ss” section of the human body.

  • November 21, 2010 at 3:48 am

Haha, “Mind your own beez-wax”. Such a 90’s phrase, makes me feel old.

  • Sinz86IROCblk

    November 21, 2010 at 4:06 am

I would something similar with my cousin. It was always based off of two opposing sides in war. “Comandantes” or “commanders” in English, we originally thought it translated to commandos. Well these comics were pretty much a 8×11 sheet paper with a ton of shit going on, kinda like one of those MAD or Cracked magazine art pieces. The soldiers had over the top machine guns, rpgs, and vehicles. Decapitations, death-pits, firing squads, flame throwers, and a hell of a lot more gruesome crap going on.

Pretty much anything we could think of happening in a war but with ridiculous outcomes. There were themes for every holiday or historical period. Everything was captioned with a mix of English/Spanish dialog. At the time we though it was hilarious and I had a stock pile of these but can’t find them anymore. We’re now 25 and still talk about this crap like it was our single greatest achievement.

    November 21, 2010 at 4:09 am

Wow, man! I drew comics when I wasn’t supposed to too! (and I so do ’till this day) You have a wild imagination and I think I’m not the only one who wants to see at least another. I’m currently thinking about making comic adaptions of horror movie ideas I hope to get off the ground someday. I haven’t made a horror comic since middle-school, because my masterpiece (untitled, even to this day) was snagged by one of teachers. I spent the rest of day trying to get it back from her (reminds of the scene from Back to the Future Part 2 where Marty is trying to grab the sports almanac from Strickland’s office), but there wasn’t any luck and I got a whole week of detention. I look back it now (several years later) and laugh at what chould of been. It was pretty graphic, black and white with lots of red (for blood). You could say it’s a lot like Sin City, but it paid tribute to all my favorite slashers. I hope to remake it once I can even remember what’s it about. I hope you enjoy!

    November 21, 2010 at 10:10 am

I drew comics in school, too…I remember drawing comics mainly about fictional moose too. Weird. Combine that now with the fact that we’re about the same age as me and that we have a lot of the same interests…I feel like you’re an alternate version of me sometimes. One who had nicer parents, a nicer personality, and also never gave up on the dream. Wish there would’ve been more people like you in my life. Thanks for the continued inspiration.

  • Eccid

    November 21, 2010 at 10:26 am

That was awesome XD I used to draw “Super Flay” comics, about a fly who ate toxic waste and became a super powerful crime fighting fly. I also wrote a story about a monkey in middle school that ended up being read by most of the students and teachers, and got quite a laugh ๐Ÿ˜›

great comics man you should totally scan more

  • Jigglysaint

    November 21, 2010 at 3:16 pm

That’s cool. By the age of 10 I had a partially built fantasy world where I was king and I had a magic sword that could destroy ANYTHING and a race of evil lightbulbs that always kept trying to kill me. Oh and my royal court consisted of stuffed animals. See, I was in the “special” class. I even ended up doing school assignments about it(when I actually did assignments that is).

I can’t draw worth shit though.

  • Kelemvor

    November 21, 2010 at 3:30 pm

James, that comic is lame. It would be better utilized as kindling for a fire or maybe crumpled up and used in place of a jerk sock. It was probably cool when you were 10 but it’s not cool now; instead it’s lame (as I previously mentioned). Don’t let these fucking marks fool you into thinking it’s anything else – they’d probably like it if you posted pictures of your own shit on the site.

Seriously; save the electricity that your scanner might use and do something else.

  • callmeRaskolnikov

    November 21, 2010 at 3:36 pm

Seems like most kids drew comics in school. I definitely remember my own being way disturbing for a 9 year old. However, this little comic is pretty hilarious. i love how the moose’s only dialogue is “MOOOOOO” “MOOOO”. Is he trying to saying his own name, but can’t get it out or is it supposed to intimidate his enemies? I would really like to hear about chocolate moose’s back story. Where did this hero moose come from? Is he even a hero or an anti-hero? Please post more images of your old comics James they are really interesting.

  • jemount

    November 21, 2010 at 5:02 pm

I did one around the same age featuring a deer called The Mighty Buck. Went around beating up hunters. Chocolate Moose is a pretty funny character. He looks kinda sinister though like he’d be a villain in my comic. I wouldn’t mind seeing some more of these but I think it would be bad ass if you posted a full comic using the talents you have now. Chocolate Moose could do a cameo as a bad-guy. Have him eat somebody. ZOOL MOTHERFUCKER ZOOOOOOL!

  • Lolli072

    November 21, 2010 at 7:50 pm

Oh Boy. Well I was the only girl “artist” in my school, and yep, I drew comics during class time too! In fact when I was 11 I made up 3 full 30-something page comics of a super team called…. ugh… the Peacemakers. How’d they get their powers? Alien blobs from outer space came down and was absorbed by their bodies instantly giving them super-powers. *facepalms*

But hey! It’s that creativity that make all us types of artists who we are today! I’m a happy and budding Illustrator now. ๐Ÿ™‚

And post more please… that was farkin’ hilarious. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Lort

    November 21, 2010 at 7:56 pm

LOL…The Chocolate Moose! I say you make it a full-length feature film. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I drew comics too, often when I was supposed to be learning math. Usually, I drew caricatures of the teachers and passed them around for a good laugh. On more than one occasion, they ended up in the trash. Oh, well.

  • November 21, 2010 at 11:16 pm

Wow, one of the kids openly confesses with a shit-eating grin that he got assraped by the moose (that’s what I consider a bad time) then when another kid asks him how it happened, he tells him to shut the fuck up and “mind his own beeswax.” Now that is some fucking scriptwriting.

I drew comics towards the end of high school about a character named The Friendly Vagina. It was a woman bent over with a tophat on her back and her ass had a face. Her cooch was the mustache. It was mostly TFV making ruffling noises because it had a vagina for a mouth. I don’t remember it ever doing anything because it was attached to someone’s ass.

  • November 23, 2010 at 8:57 am

i have a villan he can fight… THE MILKSHAKE MAN! :D…

  • November 23, 2010 at 12:58 pm

  • November 23, 2010 at 1:10 pm

That must have brought you back some good memories and i totaly agree without a doubt chocolate moose should be an animated character to appear in your show that would be hilarious.

  • November 23, 2010 at 1:13 pm

I have a huge stack of old comics as well. However, they’re all “Attack of the Giant Spiders” and were all stand-alone comics. I managed to keep several hundred of them (and I made some special colored editions for the 100th, 200th, and 300th episodes) and worked on them through 5th, 6th and a part of 7th grade before my principal decided that I should be suspended for making such violent things.

  • November 26, 2010 at 1:13 pm

THAT MOOSE GAVE ME A BAD TIME ONCE! oh man, this is classic stuff. I was never motivated enough to make comics, though I did once write a short story in 3rd grade about a toilet that eats people. Also, a friend and I collaborated on a story that was a parody of E.T. it involved an alien called B.M. and was confiscated by a teacher, never to be seen again.
